Fair enough, it's a futile argument anyway as these players are from different markets, and therefore the rules are different - good on Aberdeen for the approach they're taking though.
Just a bit fed up with 'if so and so went for that much, that must make [Scottish player] worth this much'. It just doesn't work like that.
I understand what you’re saying but my argument is the one Aberdeen will also be putting towards Swansea and imo it’s a valid one. One good season for them and his value will rocket.

I wouldn't disagree with that at all. But there are several ones that Swansea could make to counter them.

How is it out of order to be sceptical about this? If it turns out to be true then us sceptics were wrong. If not then nobody gets any benefit out of it.
Whether its true or not they are plausible rumours which if nothing else livened up a thread that was and is a total car crash
Exactly why folk feel the need to give grief to somebody they never have and never will meet when all they have done is posted information on a thread on a football forum escapes me a bit.
I could partially understand it if it were a wise after the event type of grief or an obvious jamboid wind up, but whilst the topics under discussion are still a possibility?
I can understand folk disagreeing over the pace of signings or on the relative merits of a specific player, but this seems like faux outrage in nothing more than a look at me type posturing.
There has been so little actual rumour that true or not this actually gave some of us something to think about rather than indulge in the inter poster bickering that has characterised most of Hibs net over the entire close season.

Hibernian are "very close" to bringing striker Jamie Maclaren back to Easter Road, head coach Neil Lennon has revealed.
The Australian, 25, scored eight goals in 15 matches on loan at Hibs between January and May.
He has two years remaining on his contract with German parent club Darmstadt.
"Jamie, hopefully very close. Close enough. Nothing's guaranteed in this game," the Hibs boss told BBC Scotland.
"That'd be another body in the building, another centre-forward, and take the pressure of Florian Kamberi and Martin Boyle."

So far, compared to last season we're down by McGeouch, Maclaren, Allan, Barker and Murray.
Based on his performances so far, Mallan can arguably replace McGeouch in the deep lying midfield role. Agyepong will replace Barker, Maclaren and Allan may return which would leave us needing a backup striker to replace Murray. All that would be left would be a replacement for McGinn if we sell him.

Mallan is more attacking midfield. Think he’s only doing a job in the Dulan role until we get someone else in more suitable to that role.

Not quite, MacLaren was a replacement for Murray so if he returns, and Agyepong replaces Barker, we're down two from last year. Mallan has been brought in so could argue he's McGeouch replacement though a different type of player so we need to adopt slightly different tactics.
Bear in mind most of us felt that with the team we finished the season with had been on place all season we'd have been clear in second so if Allan is back then we're no weaker.
We also have Slivka, who was considered to be the long term replacement for McGinn the way Celtic look at McGinn as Brown's replacement so look for him to be a bit more prominent this year.

Apologies regarding Jordy deal, was actually at East mains on wed. Hearing that Coventry got him on a perm as managed to pay 80% of his Huddersfield wage so his agent and him accepted that would be closest he would get. Still confident of McGinn to Everton movement on this is loaning mcginn back to us this season but also take the youngster from them

For those who say "Jordy deal didnt happen" well, the way I see it, a Jordy deal did happen, same time as Neil Lennon suggests Jamie Mac is coming back, and I see that as Top Target signs, Backup Plan finds more solid deal & grabs it (understandably).

Still confident of McGinn to Everton movement on this is loaning mcginn back to us this season but also take the youngster from themNow I really hope this is true...we get the the transfer fee and SJM for another year - that would be ideal. Cheers for sharing- even if it doesn't come off it's good to hear stuff like this

Hopefully we get some players in today . The sight of our only striker with his knee strpped up 3 days before the new season gives me the fear
I think we should knock back all bids for McGinn, unless it’s over £4-5m.
Just keep him.
Just keep McGinn, super John McGinn....

And SDG is like a new signing - poses questions in terms of shape but it offers flexibility with Boyle in particular.

My Brighton mate said they have been monitoring McGinn for a while. Chris Hughton a big fan of his. Watched the game with me last night and was quite stunned that we are asking for £4M for him. Claimed that would be a steal at that price in today’s market. Was also very impressed with what he saw from McGinn and would have no issues slotting in well down there.

:agree: I'd imagine the package - length of contract, signing on fee, wages, bonuses, etc - will be more than enough to set him up for life. He's still quite young and has a good 10 years in the game ahead of him. Plenty time for him to earn the big bucks and then do a career finale cameo at his "boyhood heroes".

Hopefully we get a lot of clauses re appearances, caps, share of transfer fees, etc to bump that figure up over the next couple of years.
Looking at the fees clubs are forking out in the EPL (and Championship to a lesser extent), a couple of good seasons at Brighton could easily see him go to a bigger club for multi millions.

Firstly it will greatly improve our profile for anybody thinking of coming to us but also the price of players gone up due to the money we're making for the run. Thinking about the lack of transfer news, I honestly find it tricky to work out how many we need as there are just too many factors to consider.
Keep McGinn but go out of Europe - In this case I'd say we still need two strikers, one central midfielder, a winger to allow us to play different systems, and maybe cover for left back if Lennon doesn't think the young lasd (forgotten his name) is up for it.
Lose McGinn and go out of Europe - as above but with a marquee signing of a midfielder required.
Keep McGinn and stay in Europe - as thefirst option but with depth required (one extra quality defender, midfielder and striker at least to allow us to allow us to rest players). Wouldn't have to be top quality players, just those who can hopefully do a job and give us a little resale value. Off the top of my head someone like Shankland who has been tipped recently (I know we're probably not or won't look at him, just as an example)
Lose McGinn and stay in Europe - a combination of the second and third option.
All of this, combined with not knowing our final budget until Europe/McGinn situations are clearer, must surely have slowed things drastically. After the Molde game and the closing of the English transfer window, I'd be expecting a lot more movement on our end.
TL:DR - Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I actually think John loves the club. He'll have to go to further his career but he's not desperate to go right now. It'll be an emotional day for him and us when he does. For me he's a bigger legend than Latapy and Sauzee. Never thought I'd say that about another Hibs player.

I love the response asking if they can be the agent for every player who signs got Hibs.
In all fairness they seem to do the best for their player who made it clear he wanted to be back here. Considering the grief people are giving agents on the McGinn thread maybe we should admit they're not all bad guys?

Maybe so, but did they say it would be done in a couple of days and then lo and behold it is? I’m not saying the guy knows everything or that he’s not going to have got things wrong but credit where credits due, he said it would be announced around the weekend and Lennon has all but confirmed it? That’s pretty accurate to me.
We’ll see about the McGinn stuff, like others I’m sceptical about that one but I’d be delighted if he’s right re; loaning him back to us for a year, unfortunately I can’t see it though.

Interesting that this article says Hibs have turned down in excess of 3 offers already from Celtic but talks between the 2 clubs continue.
Hint for any Peter Lawwell tonka's looking in on this thread...the bit that's really quite important is the number you put in between the "£" sign and the letter "m", for example £2m = no whereas £4m = now we're talking...

I actually think John loves the club. He'll have to go to further his career but he's not desperate to go right now. It'll be an emotional day for him and us when he does. For me he's a bigger legend than Latapy and Sauzee. Never thought I'd say that about another Hibs player.
Latapy who showed complete and utter contempt for the club, and Sauzee who canny be arsed with having anything to do with the support who adored him?
John McGinn is head and shoulders above that pair.

I was thinking the same. Seems not ideal from our part, because if we can afford this fee and he has a stormer of a season, we're at risk of losing him to another buyer. Plus Dramstadt will find it tough to bargain with potential buyers for much beyond that since they've effectively shown their hand (presuming other clubs find out what this fee it, but they usually do).
Maybe is was Jamie's/ his agent's influence on the deal? This way for him, if he has just an ok season then he'll still probably end up at hibs on a perm, and if he has a stormer then a club with more money/ bigger league could easily come in and he'd have a better chance of moving for much higher wages rather than waiting 2-3 years with us. I suppose the obvious drawback is that if he does poorly he could end up back at Germany which is where he doesn't want to be. However he seems to have a lot of belief in himself as a player and as a professional. This is total guesswork obviously.

IF it is a similar deal to Flo's, then the selling/ buying price has already been agreed and will not change at season's end. Perhaps we have current funds ear-marked elsewhere and will use cash from next season's st sales to fund permanent deal. Get player now, pay later.
