Lennon isn't petty like that. If that was the reason he would have been emptied along with Stokes. Lennon will have drawn a line under it and Swanson won't be playing for footballing reasons.
The rumour on here was we tried but he didn’t want to go.
He did rate him but he was involved in the incident that saw Stokes emptied apparently. He’s hardly had a look in since.
Danny started 1 league game in the 4 months before the Portugal trip. Personally I tbink Danny has been a long term scapegoat for the Hamilton game where they walked through our midfield.

It's amazing just how many people on this board know just what Danny S got up to at Penina in Portugal. Does that count as being ITK? Given that Martin Boyle was also part of The Alvor 3 & he starts every week, I find it hard to believe that this is a factor in NL's non selection of Danny. With Neil's chequered career, off & on the pitch I would imagine he is also likely to be more sympathetic to a one-off example of misbehaviour. IMO, he just doesn't rate Danny. I'm not necessarily in agreement with that view but NL is the manager & he'll be judged on those decisions.
Well said.

I don't think Danny will leave, and I don't blame him - it's obviously his dream to be here. He will only be a Hibs player for another few months, and won't get paid more elsewhere.

It’s all about football.Willie Hamilton and Jimmy Johnstone were first names on the team sheets for Jock Stein regardless of misbehaviour or poor training. All that matters is what happens on the pitch.

There are countless footballers signed by managers who then subsequently think they've made a mistake. You could also ask why NL signed Simon Murray. And Big Dave??

Me too. It's not like he's miles out the picture, he is on the bench for every game - but him not getting a game yesterday was a big indication of where he is in the pecking order.

I always think it’s a good thing when a manager admits it hasn’t worked out and moves on quickly rather than try prove fruitlessly that he was right all along.

Am no sure Stevie every player wants to play and I thinks he’s already really frustrated with lack of chances I think if a decent move comes available he would go, saying that who would be considered a decent move Motherwell, killi, st Mirren 🤷*♀️

I know where you're coming from Gary, but given that he'll have a downturn in his earnings and won't have made enough from football to retire, another 9 months on maybe £500 - £1000 a week more than he would get anywhere else is a big consideration.
Also, a couple of injuries and suspensions and he could be back in. Not outwith the realms of possibility.

Yeah fair point guess it’s going to all come down to him as I would imagine hibs would let him move on to save a wage or maybe not maybe he’s in that group of players we are happy to keep to have a strong squad and like you say use when needed. Just think it’s a shame when you see a player who pretty much knows he’s going to struggle for game time and it’s the start of a season where he could go on and take a hit of a couple of 100 quid without knowing any figures he’s on etc.
He’s certainly not someone I’m in a hurry to see go but equally wouldn’t be in my strongest side.

I'm only guessing but maybe both are close to deals to move on.

Would like to see Fraser Murray set up on a loan for 6 months too - top end of championship would be good.

Just getting rid of his wage would be good enough IMO. Not sure if we’d need to give him a wee payoff, if whoever is taking him could cover that then that would be ideal.

If your sources are right, he’s in dreamland wanting that money - especially with the English transfer window closed
1 good season with Kilmarnock doesn’t give you that kind of wage demand leverage

Celtic don't need or want him in their team, Hibs are desperate to get him and he is desperate to come here. So why's it not happening?
Lennon was quoted as saying that's one for later in the transfer window. There must be a reason for that?
Sounds like Celtic perhaps see SA as being a bargaining chip in getting a player in - maybe McKenna from Aberdeen?

I think the reason for the delay with Allan is that he'll be waiting for a pay off from Celtc. Celtc will be waiting to see if they can sell Allan before the end of August without having to pay up some of the last year of his contract. We saw with his moves to WBA and Celtc that money is very important to Allan and with a kid quite rightly so.
I think it'll come down to the last day of the window where Lawell is faced with the prospect of paying around 7k a week to a boy that will be sitting in the stand all season, or cutting his losses and maybe paying up half of his last year. That'll then allow him to join us

The rationale in the comment was that if we were going to buy Bogdan (I think January was mentioned in the post I responded to) it may suggest that it might be succession planning for the possibility that Rocky may move. 2 or 3 assumptions in that of course but was just a throw away remark with no knowledge whatsoever but triggered by the fact we are loaning him in his final year at Liverpool.

I wonder if the Allan situation is the reverse of the Mcginn situation (ie we know that Allan will only come to us, although Celtic obviously got this wrong with Mcginn) and we are playing the waiting game with Celtic hoping they blink first to get him off the payroll. If true this may be the reason he is not even making the squad, especially as they are not exactly flying at the moment!

I wouldn’t assume Allan would only come to us.
He’s a player in the last year of his contract. He’ll follow the scent of money in the same way he did when he went south, when he tried to get to Rangers and when he went to Celtic.

Greg Stewart signing with killie, might have been worth a punt for competition upfront
I don't want Hibs to be taking "punts" on players.
We should analyse the type of player we need, and go and get the best one we can.
Fortunately, that, in the main, is what we do.

The thing is though they can’t move him on unless he wants to go or gets a pay off.
There would be no shortage of interest in Allan, maybe other teams, such as Aberdeen, have enquiried and he has told Celtic that he is only going to a certain team, not necessarily us and is refusing to budge.
Celtic then punish him by leaving him completely out of the squad. The state of that midfield against Hearts you would have at least expected him to be on the bench, especially if Celtic were looking to attract interest in him, unless he has told them as above. Who knows!

Of course it punishes him as he can’t play football for the whole season and the club he wants to go to may move on. Yes he may be happy to take the money but It happens all the time in football when players won’t sign a new contract etc they are made to train with reserves etc. He also misses out on appearance money, win bonuses, goal bonuses, sponsorship deals etc as well as potential Scotland caps.

Where did the McGinn only to Celtc nonsense come from?
I find it impossible to believe that any player would rule out speaking to any, but one, club.
Even when Kevin Thompson desperately wanted to sign for Rangers, had an English club, or even Celtc, offered him more money, I'm sure he would have gone there.
Scott Allan might like the idea of playing for Hibs, but if a team offers him a bigger salary than we have, he'd be daft not to seriously consider it.
Of course there are other factors which might be significant, but I don't think he'd shut the door on other possibilities.

I'm not convinced he's going to have many offers. Other than a semi successful spell at Portsmouth in 2012, the only decent spells in his career have been in 2014-15 in the Scottish Championship and a 3 month loan spell here this year since he left Dundee Utd 6 years ago.
If he doesn't come here, his track record in England is not going to have a host of Championship or League 1 clubs coming in.

I agree, was a bit worried about Lennon’s quote after the RC game, when asked if he’ll be bringing anyone else in, it was something along the lines of “nothing in the pipeline but never say never”.
We are still short of quality in the midfield. I know it’s only been a couple of games but I’m far from convinced on Hyndman and I think it’s been quite obvious Slivka isn’t good enough to fill any of the void left by McGinn, McGeouch and Allan.
Can’t comment on Milligan yet but I think we are still very lightweight in the middle of the park with two “luxury players” in Mallan and Hyndman who will fall in and out of games, we need somebody with the ability to control the midfield..... you know who.

Apologies for having a different opinion.
My point was, Mallan is a cracking player who brings us much needed goals from midfield but for me he is a Riordan/luxury type player that will pop up with a goal out of the blue but won’t influence for 90 minutes. A difficult skill that McGinn, McGeouch and Allan all had. We are struggling in the midfield battles so far this season, I think that’s pretty easy to see.

He does but he’s not somebody you can count on (or expect to) to control a midfield or dictate the tempo. That’s in no way a dig at him or his ability, it’s just the style of player he is.
I’d have expected someone like Slivka to be that player but really don’t think he looks like stepping up to the level of last seasons midfield.... hopefully I’m wrong!

I actually agree with this. He can’t play right in the middle of the park. Doesn’t have the athleticism and just lets folk wander off him as a result.
Milligan and another in there with Mallan a bit more advanced and he’ll be able to do what he’s good at.

We don't need 4 keepers either. Be good for the young keeper to get some games on loan along with Fraser Murray

He stuck it in the bottom right corner, but the ref made him take it again.
He then stuck it in the bottom left.

He was a luxury player for his last season with us. When you can count on him to score 20 goals a season then he's great, but if it's only 10 or so, even if they are screamers, then he's a luxury.

I’m guessing another midfielder and cover for left back.

The other interesting part there is that he said all loan players from last season wanted to come back but deals could only be done for Flo and Maclaren.
Suggesting we did try to get Barker and Allan but didn’t.
I also assume we didn’t try to get Rherras.

Yeah, that was interesting, I chose to ignore that part though as I was fairly adamant on another thread there’s no way we were after Barker and wee Tommy from Man City. Not one to admit when I’m wrong I thought I would just try to ignore that. Cheers for highlighting it though.

I always thought that Rherras looked like a Hearts player wearing a HIBS strip.
I don’t mean that in a bad way, anytime he played he did not seem to be up to speed with the rest of the team.
Is that a bit harsh?
I suppose he never really got a real run in the team but I presume Lenny only signed him as cover.
Any Hearts fan I spoke to seemed to rate him so unfair to rate him on a few appearances. Saying that I only remember one appearance at ER and him high fiving Flo on his debut goal against Motherwell from the bench.
I suppose he will now forever be on the short list of players that have played for both HIBS and hearts

I think Riordan was a luxury player at times in that he wasn't an out and out striker that would chase the ball down or hold it up, nor was he an up and down the touch line winger that would help the full back one minute and knock it round a man the next.
Riordan was a sublime player in his day. But let's be honest, if we were 1-0 with 10 minutes to go at Celtic Park or Ibrox you would have most likely seen him come off that park for someone that was going to work and fill in more. That's not a dig at Riordan btw, he couldn't do everything. If he could he'd have been at a Man Utd or Liverpool.
The comparison is probably that same thing. If we're 1-0 up at either the ugly sisters with 10 minutes to go you would probably consider swapping out Mallan for someone like Bartley.
Lennon saying in his pre-match press conference that he’s hoping to sign one or two more, won’t be a forward though as he’s happy with the cover we have there.
I’m guessing another midfielder and cover for left back.
And he also suggested might trim squad a little. Said he was happy when asked about Kenny Miller. So given we have 3 wide players and he is happy up top then I would assume he is talking a midfielder and a defender. Milligan can play centre half so maybe a fullback?
My bet - he still wants dynamic midfielder aka Allan and he wants cover for Stevenson at left back.
I can see Swanson and possibly Slivka going on loan (if we get another midfielder in).

He was on the bench on Sunday and was warming up behind the goal. He is real but I agree all quiet on profile. Aparantkh daster than Barker who thinks he is the fastest player he has ever seen.
