Heard a rumour we are after Rob Dickie on loan from Bristol City. Signed for them from QPR for about £1m in the summer on a 4 year deal but hasn’t been first choice for the majority of the season.
Right sided CH. McDermott apparently worked with him before.
He's played every game in January for Bristol City. In those 5 games he's played every minute, appearing twice against West Ham in the cup. Winning the replay. Seems a long shot.

He starts every week for a team mid table in the Championship.
If we are signing players like that then we are absolutely ******* money all over the place! :hyper

Mattie Pollock put in a transfer request with Watford yesterday. Sure his girlfriend/partner is from Edinburgh or nearby. Played for Aberdeen last season. Not sure if we would be interested, not sure we could afford him and absolutely no idea of his ability. Almost a pointless post 😂

Yeah, I agree it’s a long shot. Just passing on what I have been told. Was not starting until recent weeks. Maybe their new manager rates him.

Is Tom McIntyre actually a hibs target? Can’t see anything but English sides after him 🤷*♂️
When I read the name, I immediately thought about our Tommy who scored the opening goal in the 1991 Scottish League Cup Final.

He has started and played the full 90 mins of every game in all competitions since 19th September. The only games he hasn’t started were 4 games following a red card in August.

I've never heard any non-black defender referred to as a "bombscare", yet almost every black defender we've had inevitably gets referred to as one.
Colin Murdoch was constantly referred to as a bombscare.

Got to say I was a little bit concerned earlier today reading that Mr Montgomery feels that our problems this season come from not having a settled front 4 while as far as I am concerned and I think most on here and all that I speak to feel its our defence and centre midfield that is the problem. Add to this worry playing out from the back playing 4 2 4 with the players we have is as somebody else was saying in another context is a total bomb scare , a disaster waiting to happen. Hopefully at least one of these centre backs mentioned can be here and registered for tonight and be a starter.

Referring to a defender being a bombscare being interpreted as racist is possibly the most ridiculous topic I have ever seen on .net (and there has been plenty of ridiculous topics).
It clealry refers to any defender who no matter how good or bad their overall game may be, is capable of frequent moments of complete madness enough to give their fans a heart attack.
Race has never had F all to do with it.

100% agree, though I would say central midfield is the priority for me. Ours isn't creative enough nor protects the defence enough.

It's absolutely the case that black players have been judged differently because of the colour of their skin. I don't think the Hibs support is particularly guilty of this, but then again if you've been at ER and never heard a derogatory comment referencing a player's ethnicity then you must be deaf.
Not saying this is the case here, but vigilance and self-awareness are not things to be afraid of.
Unfortunately, Rocky Bushiri does earn the 'bombscare' label in my eyes, can never be confident he won't suddenly make a costly mistake.

Length of the deal sounds bang on as well. Enough time that if he's a hit, we'll get plenty of games from him or command a decent few. If he doesn't work for whatever reason, he's not tied to a huge contract.

Yes but if just one of them produces that moment or two of class each game (not that much to ask for!) then we should be better off than we currently are (not that much to ask for, either!). Now if two out of three manage it...

Yep. Most thought the summer transfer business was the best we’d done in years too and look how that’s worked out.
Of those who arrived over the summer though, are any of us howling that the arrivals aren’t good enough?
The problem with the summer was that we didn’t do enough business, so the squad has been short for the first half of the season.
We might yet end up looking positively on our summer business if our new arrivals help those players sufficiently.

Great seeing some players coming in but have we given up on the Scottish market completely? Just about every decent hibs team I have seen has had a good core of Scottish players, that's going from the Mixu/McLeish through to the 2016 team.

It is far harder to sign from the Scottish market in January. Teams won’t be wanting to part with players worth signing half way through the season. Especially to league rivals.

I reckon if we can get another 8 in before the window shuts we will be okay, but my god we have some absolute dross in this squad.
I don't really care what formation we play or folk think we play, but its obvious to a blind man we don't have the players at the back or in midfield to play the way we want to play and Marshall's distribution is awful.
We have so many poor poor players incapable of passing the ball to a teammate, whether that's from 5 ft or 50 yards
Jair's up turn in form appears to have been a flash in the pan as he is again looking very ordinary.

We need a keeper, and arguably a whole new defence/midfield.
We aren't going to get that in this week. Just got to hope for a run in the Scottish and a top 6 place. Although I think the new lads looked okay tonight. Probably regretting their decisions once they've seen the standard of their teammates.

Not think it’s funny how we as fans get about players we’ve never seen play 🤣
While I don't disagree I'll also add I'm absolutely a prime offender in this regards. The day I don't immediately assume a Hibs signing is going to end up being world class as soon as I see that press release is the day I chuck it.

I hope the rumoured CB or CBs sign soon, we are a team bereft of defensive qualities. We’ve neglected the defence for years. Played a left back who actually done really well last night at CB and let one go signed in the summer on loan 🤷*♂️. What a mess hibs!😡

I'm not happy about Jeggo going.
Improved us straight away when he came into the side last January and we've been a better side when he's been in the team (by and large, before anyone shouts "Forfar") this season when he's played.
We'll need to hope the new guys get fit and stay fit and that we don't suffer any more injuries. The combination of 442, Levitt in midfield with Newell, Youan out wide and Vente bashing about everywhere to get involved in games has "Butcheresque dip to relegation" written all over it.
Amos is the replacement
He is, but if Jeggo goes, we’re only 1 injury away from Newell and Levitt being the only central midfielders in the squad. If there are no young players ready to step up, I think we need to bring in another centre mid to give us some depth - ideally it would be so,done to play alongside Amos
We still need to get at least one centre half in as well

I mentioned this recently but he needs games to come back from his health issue. The last thing is he needs is the doctors sign off to play again but not get any game time.
I’d like to see him offered to a Championship side on the understanding we get access to all his data from the monitor they wear and that he also comes back into Hibs to be assessed every X amount of weeks whilst he’s away.

I'd rather us put most our budget and energy into a really good CB than add another LB. Obita has been arguably are best player this season so would find it hard to see us upgrading on him in this window, and despite what is said I do trust Lewy from now to the end of the season to have to fill in for him on the odd occasion or come on as a late sub. Would revisit LB in the summer when, I assume, Lewy calls it a day.

It's absolutely not a lot of *****. I can't believe the slack Vente is getting for the money we've spent on him he's been absolutely awful, wether it's shape or not, Josh Campbell is more of a goal threat, Vente doesn't even look like he's going to be involved in a goal never mind score one. Working hard isn't enough, we need goals from him. He's so slow to get into the box and on the end of things, Doidge has the knack of being in the box and getting on the end of things, scoring scrappy goals. I'd play Doidge every week just now and take Vente out.

The one thing I would definitely give Doidge is you can see that he really cares and gives his all for the club.
I think this is part of the disconnect between the club and the fans now, is that there's only a handful of players who you get a real feeling that they would go into battle for the badge and not just walk away at the first decent opportunity.

I think this is part of the disconnect between the club and the fans now, is that there's only a handful of players who you get a real feeling that they would go into battle for the badge and not just walk away at the first decent opportunity.

Agreed. Doidge at least has a bit of character about him.

Vente has been getting off extremely lightly considering the fee we paid for him. I don’t think Doidge is better than him but that’s not saying much these days.
Agree totally with that.

We don't really have any star players that would be sorely missed so anyone leaving has got to be a good thing.
This season is a write off. Clearing the decks in preparation for the summer seems sensible.
As long as we don't clear them and leave ourselves short. I love Big Christians attitude. Got what Hibs are all about and never lacked effort, good few goals too. If he's away then I hope we have a big centre forward lined up.

This is where I am. Whenever someone leaves or there’s talk about who people would move on there’s normally a case for why others should be moved on first. The last few years will be remembered as the “least of our problems” years.
Secure top 6 and move on as many as we can this window, and decide to move on all out of contract players and it’s about the extent of my hopes from when Johnson was sacked.

I agree to an extent but I also feel sorry for him.
The incident that sums it up best was him picking up a long ball last night just in our half, near the sideline. He was desperate for someone to lay it off to but had literally no option except passing the ball back to Marshall.
I'm not saying he's covered himself in glory but he's getting absolutely no service.

Might not be wholly popular opinion - but I agree with you.

So do I. I think there’s no comparison on quality however. Vente is by far the better player and finisher. I just think he needs a rest. His confidence seems to be at a low point after being asked to play a role where he isnt scoring freely. A wee rest would help perhaps. Not sure Doidge is the answer tho. There’s two or three I’d out in there first.

Vente is a quality player, who unfortunately is having to drop so deep, to pick up the ball. Get him in the box and he'll score goals, no doubt about that

That to me is an excuse, Campbell plays deeper, Youan has to work back, if Vente is in the 10 he should still be contributing more to our attack then he is atm. He's just not been good enough. If he came through the youth system, or signed on a free folk would be hounding him out. We are all just living in hope that he proves his worth.

Couldn't score to save himself, then Heckingbottom gets the sack and he just didn't look back for the rest of the season.
Vente has had a similar start, albeit he's actually scored a few goals at the beginning under Johnston. He has a very reasonable excuse for his drop off in scoring as it coincides exactly with this dreadful style of football we're playing.
I have no idea how long it will take, but whenever we stop playing this style of football if Vente is still here I'm certain he will score regularly.

Sad to see Doidge go if he does. I've never been his greatest fan but I always like at least one big man that can score in the squad. The way we are going we may need that type of target man towards the end of the season and I hope we bring a similar type player in. We are already lightweight and could easily end up featherweight with Doidge gone

Dylan Vente is the type of striker who'll score loads with the correct service. Problem is, we don't have a decent crosser of the ball, nobody who can thread a pass and we play so slowly that it nullifies his strengths. Last night was a prime example. The best service he got was a few long balls pumped over his head that he was expected to pluck out the sky stone dead with several *** defenders around him. Folk were moaning when he invariably failed to achieve this.
Doidge has his pros but I think we need to be filling the team with people who can lay it on a plate for instinctive and composed finishers like Vente.

I don’t think Hibs, in this day and age, will ever be good enough to carry a player that is just seen as a finisher. Centre forwards need to take part in the game and he’s not sowing anything at the moment to make me think he’s going to do that. Most of the half decent strikers we’ve had have been capable of creating something for themselves or making the most of a half chance. With Vente, neither seems likely at the moment.
He hadn’t been brilliant but, since the start of December, he’s mirrored the rest of the team in that any bit of form he did have had just completely fallen of a cliff. He’s got his goal against Aberdeen and had a few assists in the games previous from making good runs. He was doing all right without being brilliant but since then he’s been really poor.

I think Vente is a quality player who's been playing a role in the team that doesn't suit him due to not having anyone else , hopefully now with Marcondes and maybe Maolida signing we can push him further forward . Some don't agree with me though I think Vente is a clinical finisher in the box ( poacher , fox in the box ), 5 goals for us all scored in the box so far as are most of these too .

Yep. Vente works his nuts off as well in the role he’s seemingly being asked to play just now. It’s a real shame we’re not playing nice attacking football with him in and around the box getting service.
There were enough posters insisting they’d rather have Doidge than Shankland not that long ago, because the latter hadn’t scored many goals in a while. I wouldn’t take much notice.
I wouldn’t mind Doidge and Vente playing together as it happens, if we were actually going to get the ball into them.
If Doidge has an offer elsewhere, it’s perhaps best for both parties for him to move on and play. He’d leave with my best wishes.

Campbell doesn't get enough credit I think. I done a check over his stats just after we got injured and our ppg when he's on the park is much better than without him.
It's not because he's sensational, hes athletic and bursts a gut to press and get in the box while having his own limitations. We have lots of pretty ball players through the middle, but Joe Newell is a lonely looking one man midfield. When we played a 3 in Europe he led the press and drove forward, now he's holding space.
Let's get these new boys who have competed in leagues where you have to really compete for 90 minutes a chance to make an impact.

On the contrary, I think he does try and get involved. He's been bemoaned for dropping too deep of late and he regularly runs the channels. Our passing is just so poor it's normally fruitless regardless of what he does.
We've managed to make a good footballer look poor with a terrible midfield and honking tactics.

He does try to get involved, but there isn’t any kind of end product from it at the moment. I don’t dispute he could do with a bit more service but he needs to do more as well. If you look at last night, Youan should have walked away with a goal and and assist and Maolida managed to get himself in. Vente just never seems to be there, and it’s not for being miles from the box all the time.

Part of the issue, for me anyway, is that our forwards that are meant to assist are always looking to score themselves no matter how tight the angle. No one will ever accuse Youan of being an unselfish team player... And in fairness, Boyle isn't that different. Alf is the only one that is genuinely unselfish. And boy does it show.

When Youan ran through early on, Vente absolutely bust a gut to get into the box and was at the edge of the six yard box and available for a square ball when Elie got his shot away.
For the Maolida chance, he was again in the box ready for the square ball, that attracted the defenders to him and created the space for the cut back to Maolida.
He was also right involved when Youan missed the header (as you would expect). If Youan hadn’t got up for it, Dylan was right there.
