I must admit I hadn’t paid much attention to this until I watched the late news (I wanted to see Boris make a Mike Hunt of himself) and this new plan is very clear….. the Tories boy club will ensure that those with money will keep their money and those who have not as much will get totally ****ed over and big time by this bunch of cheating robbing *******s!

O'Brien regularly takes the pish out of her because she's thick. Because she's thick she doesn't understand that he's taking the pish out of her because she's thick, and concludes that it's because she's a woman. Hence anyone who takes the pish out of her is a misogynist. (Or perhaps like Raaaab she has a wholly different understanding of misogyny to the rest of us.) Cretin!

Was this Thatcher’s long term plan? Encourage house buying and then take the money back when the homeowners need care in later life.

Won't cost most people as much as the maximum according to Javid. 45% of people going into care homes last less than a year and 75% less than 3 years. It's ok you'll be dead before you're skint.

Bankers wet dream (as it were). They get the interest on your lifetime of mortgage payments and don’t pay interest on your retirement savings, because they’ve been grabbed by the private care sector, both of whom are busy buying shares in each other.

good law project at court again tomorrow, hope they win this one as well
Tomorrow, we’re in Court. The Government is appealing the High Court's ruling that it acted unlawfully - that there was apparent bias - in its award of a contract to associates of Dominic Cummings and Michael Gove.
Our lawyers have been working round the clock to defend this appeal. If we do lose, Good Law Project will be on the line for all of Government’s costs (and our own) from the first hearing and the costs of the appeal. It’s a huge sum of money and more than we have raised.
Back in June, when the High Court ruled that the Government had acted unlawfully by handing a contract to a company owned by associates of Cummings and Gove, it vindicated what Good Law Project had been saying all along: there is institutionalised cronyism at the heart of Government.
We think the real reason for the Government’s decision to appeal the Court’s ruling is because they want to delay another case we are bringing regarding the award of another contract to allies of Michael Gove, this time to a company called Hanbury. That case cannot be heard until this appeal is over. We think they want to delay another embarrassing loss.
But we’re not going away. We will use the appeal to make the point yet again that handing taxpayers’ money to your mates is no way to run the country.
It’s unfair and it’s unlawful.
Thank you,
Gemma Abbott - Good Law Project

Ah but what about the rest of their £16,000,000,000.99 worth?
And even this tiny part of their empire will be hugely tax efficient. Not that we'll ever find out but it would be interesting to see how much tax was actually paid on this venture.

We'll find out how much tax the company is due next year, when they file their accounts.
The directors are also UK resident. If they draw a salary, they will be due tax and (possibly) NI on that.
The shareholder, on any dividends.... probably zip-all, which of course is what the main gripe is about.

It wasn't just immigrants that drowned it was real people with families and dreams. Fleeing Iraq and the horrors we created, kept out by our pathetic laws. Dying in the cold water terrified, whilst her fiancé was here waiting on her unknowing
The first victim of Wednesday’s tragic incident in The Channel has been named tonight as Mariam Nouri Hamadameen, a 21 year old Kurdish from northern Iraq.
Mariam had recently travelled to Germany and onto France, hoping to join her fiancé who already lives in Britain.
She was a student and newly engaged – she left her studies early to be with her fiancé.
Here mother and father are totally devastated,” her cousin told us this evening.
“The situation is just awful. She was a woman in the prime of her life. It’s a total tragedy and the whole family are in shock.”

Not sure if this is the right thread to post about the Michelle Mone racist messages (https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/dec/02/michelle-mone-tory-peer-accused-of-sending-racist-abusive-messages), but I used to randomly run into her when I lived in Glasgow. She might be the most needlessly unpleasant in public person I have met. I don’t know if she has an inferiority complex about her background that causes her to be unjustifiably offended, but as as example of her rudeness, I have seen her chew out shop workers and BA flight attendants for not mentioning her OBE when greeting her. When they tried to explain they had no way of knowing she had a OBE, she would become livid.
The supposed WhatsApp messages seem to be consistent with the way that she talks

Well, there was no Christmas party, but all contemporary COVID advice was followed at the party which didn't take place. Anyway, it depends upon whether the party which didn't take place should even be called a party. The fact there are drinks, food and party games at an interactive social gathering doesn't necessarily mean there is a party; and, if there was no party, no lockdown rules were broken. However, there was no interactive social event, but all rules were followed.

There is a massive double standard. If this was a Labour government and Bozo a Labour prime minister, just imagine the press they would be receiving now. We would be incessantly told the country was being destroyed by corruption and incompetence, with a dishonest prime minister at the centre of mess. Yet there is hardly a peep from the right wing newspapers and TV pundits.

Top civil servant regrets holiday while Afghanistan fell to Taliban | UK news | The Guardian (https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/dec/07/philip-barton-regrets-holiday-while-afghanistan-fell-to-taliban)
The head of the diplomatic service has admitted failing to show leadership after he began a three-week holiday two days before the Foreign Office internally accepted Kabul was about to fall to the Taliban (https://www.theguardian.com/world/taliban).
Sir Philip Barton stayed on holiday until 28 August and during bruising evidence to the foreign affairs select committee, he admitted this was a mistake.
“I have reflected on this very carefully and if I had my time again I would not have done this,” he told MPs
The Kabul ambassador, Sir Laurie Bristow, said he was mortified that names of Afghan families that had helped the British in Afghanistan were found inside the deserted UK embassy.
The list was shown to a Times journalist by the Taliban, prompting desperate efforts to ensure they were allowed to leave. Bristow admitted “it was a mistake”.

10 year plan on da war on da drugs?
How long has this been in the pipeline?
It's overshadowed mondays report that the commons seems to be a ching den.
Doesn't seem to be serious plan given the investment the criminal justice system would need ( after all their cuts) and the police (after all their cuts) would require.
So where are we now?
Rinsing the budget for a pandemic for personal gain.
Raising taxes for the lowest paid.
Pretending to build new hospitals.
Pretending to have a "world beating" track and trace system then chucking 37 billion pounds at an unsuitable company to build one from scratch.
Pretending to northern voters they are getting some real investment.
Pretending to be the leader of the country but pissing off to write some guff about Shakespeare as the pandemic was kicking off.
The silent whirring of cash being stock-piled offshore while families noisily have 20 quid shaved off their meagre income.
Pretending that ripping up a free trade deal with our closest neighbours won't have an impact on supply a the supply of labour.
Changing the law so you are in charge of legal decisons.
Taking umbrage when one of the gang is caught copping bribes then attempting to change the rules so that the bribes can continue.
Telling the population to stay indoors and see no one whilst have a rave at the prime ministers gaff. Which probably brings us back to the nose floss.
Tell you what there has be an element of admiration towards such a gang, not looking at them as serious politicians, just as a group of grifters.
They have it sewn up and seem to do as they want. It's obvious there are some Tory voters out there who have "buyers remorse" and there are those who will stick up for them. Given the recent discussion on here about some of names Tory voters have been called on here I'll just ask the simple questions....Is all of this OK with you? Are you happy you voted in the current administration?

David Lammy spoke well on BBC Breakfast this morning. It was suggested to him that there may be a 'legal loophole' that would have seen the event(s) allowed as they were business meetings. He said that a government who put such restrictions in place shouldn't be looking for loopholes and in any case the idea that these were somehow essential meetings was ridiculous. The guidance at the time was clear and even if the meetings were essential they should have been restricted to required participants, socially distanced and short. Serving wine, cheese, canapes was quite probably illegal but even if it wasn't it was morally dubious at a time when others were suffering. He finished by saying the govt needs to get serious.
I know people on here mock the obsession with Christmas but there is little doubt it is an important time for a lot of people. I reluctantly agreed with the restrictions that were imposed last year but I still had a horrendous Christmas. My partner hadn't seen her dad for over a year, he hadn't seen his daughter or granddaughter and we were supposed to spend Christmas together. We were forced to cancel at quite literally the last minute. They both had to deal with that and I had to be supportive in the fallout. It was ****ing miserable. In the grand scheme of things that is relatively minor, people were saying final goodbyes to loved ones on Zoom calls ffs. I'm angry about both my own situation though as well as that of others. I think I would be able to accept it a little bit more if there was even a hint of contrition. There isn't though, the PM continues to lie about it, various people in and around government are quite clearly mocking us about it. The video of Rees-Mogg joking about it despite being aware of the anger it is causing sums up everything that is wrong in our society and the political structure we live in.
My granddad was a big trade unionist in his day so I was taught to hate Tories from a young age (whilst being encouraged to accept that decent people could still vote Tory, they were just misguided). There were times when my attitude softened to mild distaste but the last few years has hardened my resolve more than ever. Hate isn't a strong enough word, I have more respect for dog ***** on the sole of my shoe than I do for this mob. I also no longer accept that decent people can vote for this group of shysters, if you are a decent person you simply have to be appalled by what we are witnessing, if you aren't and continue to vote for them then you are facilitating this, you are condoning it and you are part of the problem.

Well said mate.

I don't think bringing in secret Santa gifts, which are typically quite small, would really raise suspicion in itself.

Its a classic diversionary tactic.
The Tories realise Johnson has had his day and the media are suddenly all against him because they have been briefed its a good time to do it.
It is also at the moderate end of all the other illegal things he has done.
Meanwhile, The Health and Social Care Bill is going through the Lords right now. It will sail through the Commons and become law. It will take away the requirement for the country to have guaranteed free ambulance provision. It will stuff the NHS with private health firms. The new Integrated Care Boards (staffed by unspecified 'people') will run the NHS completely free of democratic scrutiny. Its exactly what the leaked emails Corbyn waving around at press conference just before the last election were saying, (which if you google now is now reported as apparently coming from a Russian server, so fed the 'Russians are helping Corbyn' narrative. No evidence was ever provided as to whether the Russian server was the source, or whether that was even relevant to the story, which got forgotten).
Read this please. Health is a devolved matter in Scotland but the implications will be there for us too.
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/dec/07/public-nhs-the-new-health-and-care-bill-alarm-bells-privatisation
Unless people actually take to the streets like during the Poll Tax, in mass numbers, this will actually happen in the next month, and it will be reported on in such a way to obscure the implications. This is THE END of a free at the point of use NHS.

Johnson writing in 2013;
To understand what has happened in Europe in the last week, we must borrow from the rich and fruity vocabulary of Australian political analysis. Let us suppose you are losing an argument. The facts are overwhelmingly against you, and the more people focus on the reality the worse it is for you and your case. Your best bet in these circumstances is to perform a manoeuvre that a great campaigner describes as “throwing a dead cat on the table, mate”.
That is because there is one thing that is absolutely certain about throwing a dead cat on the dining room table – and I don’t mean that people will be outraged, alarmed, disgusted. That is true, but irrelevant. The key point, says my Australian friend, is that everyone will shout “Jeez, mate, there’s a dead cat on the table!”; in other words they will be talking about the dead cat, the thing you want them to talk about, and they will not be talking about the issue that has been causing you so much grief.

Fri 13th is a different party, and not all the way downstairs, which a resident couldn't possibly be expected to know had happened in his house. This one was upstairs, in the living quarters. It also didn't happen, and all rules were followed at it too.

But what’s she even resigning FOR? She mentions the story being ‘a distraction’ from the work the Govt is doing :dunno: It’s such a classic non apology like ‘I’m sorry if anyone has taken offence ( subtext: ‘to the profoundly inoffensive thing I’ve just done) ‘it’s become apparent that I’ve become a distraction to the work of the government which I regret (subtext: I’m sorry I got caught).
Anyway, Stratton is just a dead cat.
Still, Don’t Mention The NHS. At least we’re strong and stable, not like the Russian loving Corbyn.

She'll need to get her seat in the Lords sorted pretty quickly, before Johnson's gone too.
She'll now go from being an entitled snob to being a bitter, entitled snob.

Just watched her resignation speech during which she cries really really hard ..feeling sorry for herself.
Sent from my SM-A405FN using TapatalkI thought she resigned from that job in 2021 and was working as a spokesperson for COP 26. So I'm not entirely sure what it is she's resigned from given Cop 26 is finished.

What is it Strachan has supposed to have done. I watched the video and she’s asked about a party, she said she had gone home, there’s a bit of joking from the people in the room and she says it wasn’t socially distanced. Did she organise the party? Have the other people in the room resigned? The crime is the party happening not the practice press conference. It seems to me like she’s being made a scapegoat and being forced to resign to try and take the heat of the prime minister.

I agree but she looked a bit taken a back by the question about the party. As far as I’m aware she didn’t actually host a press conference ever, I’m not sure anyone has, the role seems to not exist anymore.

It’s even more bizarre that she’s resigned from a role that doesn’t seem to exist. She was appointed to be an American style press conference leader right after the refurbishment that cost so much money. There hasn’t been one of those kind of press conferences, the one she’s filmed practicing is the closest they ever got to holding one.

I still think it's incredible that they've been allowed to get away with it for so long by the general public. The class system plays a role here imo. If this was a labour government filling their own pockets and filled with politicians with varying regional dialects, then they'd have been swept from power by an angry mob.

Met police claiming a "lack of evidence" so won't be investigating whether they had a party or not.
In a building guarded with police on the door, a strict sign-in and out policy and with CCTV everywhere.
"A lack of evidence".
