PMQ’s today will be important. If Starmer hits him hard then the pressure to pay back will increase massively. If they don’t pay it back then the other parties will legitimately be able to label them a racist party. The Tories can’t allow that to happen.

He also said:
“If you say racist things and don’t apologise for them that makes you racist but if you say something racist and then apologise that’s a different thing I think."
So you can say racist things but if you say "sorry" then you aren't racist. Hmm OK.

Same with all crime really. If you hand back your CBE by way of apology, for instance, then there's absolutely no need to face charges for the sickening crimes you've committed against postmasters.

So you can say racist things but if you say "sorry" then you aren't racist. Hmm OK.Nothing about the motivation to actually "apologise" or the timing of it bearing in mind when the remark was made.
All about attempting to save face, way too late and way too insincere.
Once again the nasty party mask slips and you see how they really think and behave with each other.
Is this the sort of character that we should have benefitting from multi million pound government contracts?

So I can say a hate crime but as long as I say sorry that’s alright?
How about murdering someone, if I’m sorry I didn’t that’s OK?
Absolute nonsense from the Tories. They have to give that money back or they are the racist party.

This has either been faked by someone, or the Tories replaced it when they realised how bat**** the first version was.

I suppose the cost has to go up in these inflationary times. Or maybe it's just honours for agreed donations of an agreed percentage of the generous government contracts these loyal tory supporters always seem to be given?

OK, question, why did the UK/RAF not defend Ukraine in the same way by shooting down missiles and drones from Russia??
Because cowardly appeasement to Putin. Its shocking that they don't. The same appeasement that means we are only sending 1970s equipment to Ukraine and in small numbers. We have spent two years sending 1970 f16 fighter jets not even modern f35s. US says jets aren't that important yet last night they were used to shoot down everything so that's clearly nonsense.
Biden has been trying to de escalate all along because the hollow threat of nuclear bombs. I can see why Iran wants the bomb as we would probably then try to appease them too
OK, question, why did the UK/RAF not defend Ukraine in the same way by shooting down missiles and drones from Russia??

Lowest Tory polling in IpsosUK history…
Westminster Voting Intention:
LAB: 44% (-3)
CON: 19% (-1)
REF: 13% (+5)
LDM: 9% (-)
GRN: 9% (+1)
This would leave the Tories in severe danger of only being the third largest party.

I’d have more sympathy for Labour if they hadn’t made such a big deal of operation branchform. But since they have, it serves them right and she should stand down.
The main defence now that they are putting up is that it was ten years ago and she is working class. That’s no excuse for dodging taxes. She should be gone.

Has it been established that she did dodge tax? The Tory MP who reported her to the polis doesn't seem too clear what it is that she's done:

Sounding similar might not be the same thing as being the same, though. In particular, tax rules change over time, so unless you sold in the same tax year the rules might have been different (not saying they were, just that these things do change over time - I have a vague feeling that at one time long ago you might have been able to 'elect' a main residence rather than necessarily have to live in it full time, etc etc etc).

I don't know why she doesn't put an end to this Daily Mail campaign by simply and calmly explaining that she's going to wait until she's in government and then pay any fines and interest she might or might not owe out of the public purse, similar to what Johnston and Donelan have got away with. Tory MPs can't have any reasonable objection to that.

If the rules were different then they should just say so.

I've a feeling Starmer might be so confident that she'll be exonerated that he's currently taking the opportunity to make political capital out of the Daily Mail's crusade, and that might be why all the chat from Labour is about her working classness. Labour might not want this cleared up until they've had a bit more fun with it. Could be wrong, we'll see.

Well, you clearly know more about her tax affairs than I do. I have no idea, for example, what if any expenses she would have been able to claim against possible tax liability (as CWG has alluded to). I haven't been following the 'furore' too closely but I did get that she has offered to make public the relevant tax advice if her braying Tory accusers will also make their tax affairs public. Again, making political capital out of what may very well turn out to be another Beergate, whipped up by client journalists including the usual suspects Kuenssberg, Bruce, Robinson etc. Maybe she is a criminal, we'll see.

Maybe the Labour Party don't particularly want it to go away. It's not harming their polling. If it goes away the Daily Mail will just engineer a furore about something else, maybe the socialist-inspired deep state which thwarted Truss's plans to Save The West - and that might properly embarrass Sir Keir, who's in that up to his neck, along with the governor of the Bank of England, Prince William and all those other radical lefties.

That's not necessarily so. There are many reasons why she might not be due it. Annual Allowance, length of ownership, capital improvements (which she has alluded to) will all help to reduce or remove any liability.
As for the explanation, she has already given that in that Times piece, no?

MPs don’t say that bless they are 100% sure of their position. See Starmer et al with that nonsense with the curry that the Tories tried to compare to their outrageous excesses in Number 10.
Starmer knew categorically that there was no case to answer, exactly why he upped the anti and offered to resign.
Meanwhile the Tories sweep sweep.

Ha ffs OK. Just ridiculous eh saying that. Why wouldn't Labour vote against when they will gain most and possibly have the FM. Labour in Westminster voted against Rwanda this month and with them for smoking ban, you do what you think is best
Labour has done nothing wrong in the slightest. The brutal siding will come if there is scottish elections and they do deals with the Tories to get FM which the b's probably will

So they pick up asylum seekers, send them to Rwanda, to a maximum of 250, then hope that the fact that no more can be sent for a year will deter others from arriving? Or am I missing something? Which airline has volunteered to do the flights?
Michael O’Leary said RyanAir would be happy to do it for the right price. **** will be ****.
I imagine if RyanAir did do it, it wouldn’t actually be Rwanda but another country close to it requiring a four hour shuttle bus.
Also RyanAirs 737s don’t actually have the range for this flight.

Wonder how much a new election would cost just months before a general election? This is all about political gain and nothing to do with what's best for the country.

From what I've read they'll also still have to hold the Scottish election in 2026.

But opposition parties believe getting rid of Humza and the SNP is what’s best for the country. Every political party and politician always look for gain as they always believe they know best. The SNP are not Scotland and don’t have sole rights to speak about what’s best for the country.
As for elections, so what about the cost. All political parties should be held accountable by the electorate

Absolutely. An election in Scotland does not reset the clock. There would need to be another one in 2026 anyway.

The first failed asylum seeker deported to Rwanda on Monday night.
A few problems though.....He didn't arrive by boat, he was planning to leave the UK for Rwanda anyway and actually volunteered to go, he was given £3k and he was given 5 years of free housing and employment support. :faf:

***s me off the home office, a government department that we are paying for. Banding these videos about like it’s something to be proud of.
As a Civil Servant myself I always pride myself on our code, that we are obliged not to do anything illegal. I feel that our government have not lived up to their side of the bargain. Our neutrality in politics is linked to the fact that they won’t put us in that position of not breaking the code. Here they took something illegal (Rwanda is patently not a safe country) and just turned the law round, with legislation IN LAW making it safe.
I feel my colleagues in the home office are being set up.
Ha, as if by magic there’s an article picking up my point.

3 tory MP's call for Sunak to go already this morning. I can't see it they are falling until they are defeated. If too many go against Sunak I think he'll just call the election
@Steven_Swinford
Sir John Curtis says that the results in the local elections so far are ‘not far short’ of catastrophic for the Tories
They are ‘one of the worst if not the worst’ Conservative performances in local elections for 40 years
He says that Tories are losing half the seats they are contesting
Blackpool South represents third biggest swing in post-war election history

Who do they replace Sunak with? Love him or hate him (and I know what camp I fall into) the only person I could see budging the polls even slightly is Johnson and he's no longer an MP. We really should be looking at a late spring/early summer election, as has traditionally been the case, but I think October/November now seems the most likely date. Sunak will let the grifters and glorified councillors hold on to their MP and ministerial salaries a bit longer. They should be thanking him not trying to oust him, many have been promoted way beyond their level of competence and won't ever reach such heights again.

Voted early as usual. When I was there, there was a few oldies (yes, even older than me) getting turned away as they didn’t have ID.
The Tories attempt at voter suppression is pretty grim but it would be amusing if it was their own core vote they suppressed.
Notwithstanding that young people really need to get out and vote in larger numbers.

Mark Thomas does a very funny routine about the Rwandan situation. Paraphrasing.....
Rwandan Government:- "What's that, you newly-arrived illegal immigrant from the UK? You don't feel safe here? You'd feel safer risking your life getting to the UK?
We get £3,000 every time you get deported here?
Let's go round again..... we have your transport ready."

What's going on in the London Mayoral race? No votes have been counted yet, so hold on to your hats.. but it is clear tonight that the race is much much closer than some polls had suggested...

"Here we are five minutes before kick off and unbelievably Dulwich Hamlet are holding Manchester City at nil, nil.
Maybe after kick off the picture will change, but right now Guardiola must be pretty worried that this game is so close.
Desperate times for the champions."

A lot of the 'oh it's really close' stuff seems to be based on the odds shortening a bit for the Tory candidate on the betting exchanges. Two areas have declared in London and both have shown a swing of about 5% to Khan. He'll win by a landslide.
The Tufton Street grifters on Twitter are already questioning the legitimacy of the vote which tells you everything you need to know.
