Huge yougov poll shows large Labour win. Will have to be a big swing in the next 10 months for there not to be a wipeout. I'm surprised they haven't changed tactics and are just plugging Rwanda which the public don't think is an important issue to solve. There last throw will be tax cuts but I think it'll be too late

The latest it could possibly be is 28th Jan 2025, but as McD says autumn this year seems to be considered likely.

I don't think any party really wants the election campaign running over Christmas – there are various theories about who would gain/lose the most from it, but for every party it must be a challenge to get the usual number of volunteers out etc.

Been furor all day about the telegraph article with yougov distancing itself from it. Basically the telegraph has taken away all reform voters and added them to tories total. Yougov says when asked only 30% voters say they will vote tory in GE most won't vote, some will vote other parties.

Also they having factored in tactical voting at all. If factored in its grim for the tories in some estimates

SNP and Labour neck and neck in Scotland on 24 but that's without tactical voting which could boost Labour

Anderson is clearly a charlatan, someone who would blatantly cheat just to get a quote for an interview, someone who has the most appalling views on immigration. The longer the right wing grifters are open to scrutiny the more they either. It’s their only real chance of not being demolished at a general election IMO.

I have every to complain about the cost of entering the city as it’s for employment and earning, which I pay tax on. I had contracts with venues within the zone which I canceled as I would be paying £480 a visit after the first week.

That's not my point, though, is it? You're complaining about £480 per day, yet say you'd be ok with paying £12 a day. Thus demonstrating that the scale of the cost to your business is important to you. And I agree, it plainly is. But then later on when discussing Government overspending you say that scale is irrelevant. I'm just pointing out that you are being wildly inconsistent.

Nah I’m with Grunt on this. Waste of tax payer’s money should be scrutinised and criticised, but scale absolutely matters.

If a minister or government (of any variety) wastes £50,000 on unnecessary travel costs, and another wastes £5 million on unnecessary property refurbishment, both should be criticised but the larger amount rightly should be given more focus and scrutiny.

Alternatively, should a waste of fifty quid be criticised equally to the PPE money pit?

This is wrong. If you pay £100 for a hire van and claim it as an expense against tax, you save the tax on £100, not the £100. The way for BH to get his whole £100 back is to increase his price to customers by £100 as well as claiming the van hire as an expense against tax.

I really think the Armed Forces are in for a financial battering in the next budget.

So far we've had the army go very public about its inability to protect these shores to the scare story of conscription!

We've now had the navy come out to say they're scrapping ships because they've not got the sailors; they've not had much more that a gunboat patrolling the Falklands for years and the Argentinians are ramping up army, navy and air force; one of the aircraft carriers has broken down!

Only the RAF to pitch in.

Surely the opposite? Defence spending globally is on the up. They seem to be getting ready for the big one.

People does seem to be the issue though. Why be a Maratime engineer when you can earn way more on the rigs?

Plus you don’t get shot at.

Wasn’t in Parliament today thanks to a migraine attack so have just caught up on PMQs.

The debate around trans issues often gets inflamed at the fringes. As politicians, it’s our job to take the heat out of such debates and focus on finding sensible ways forward, whilst ensuring those involved are treated with respect. Given some of the terrible incidences of transphobia we have seen lately, this need for respect feels more crucial than ever.

That’s why it was disappointing to hear jokes being made at the trans community’s expense. Our words in the House resonate right across our society, and we all need to remember that

I'm sure some of them aren't stupid and realise immigration is good for a country in every metric. So I think there isn't anything more clear in showing them to crave power over what's best for their constituents. Although it's all performative as there will be net hundreds of thousands of immigrants each year for the foreseeable. I couldn’t concentrate as the hotel was noisy (on the tape he comments about how quiet it was).
I was exaggerating as it was a job interview
I was offering to leak document after it was published
I made up knowing Kemi Badenoch very, very well
It was a private meeting not attended in my role as an MP
I didn’t know what the job was
I didn’t know the most recent rules

Nice of that Mr Hunt to give £242m to the needy. Poor Canary Wharf will be transformed by the levelling up funds allocated in today's budget.

Among a clutch of small spending announcements, he said £242m of levelling up funding would be channelled into supporting the building of 8,000 homes at Barking Riverside and Canary Wharf in east London.

This levelling-up funding will be divided into £118m for Canary Wharf to accelerate a life sciences hub, commercial and retail floor space, a healthcare diagnostic facility and up to 750 homes.

A further £124m will go to Barking Riverside to unlock 7,200 homes.

I believe it originated at Nazi propaganda and is fairly well known. Greta Thunberg was in the news for it recently.

I’m certainly not having for a minute that 4 university students (who tend to be tuned into these things) were oblivious to that and chose a octopus at random.

Well the peer seems to have accepted she was wrong. Why can't you?

“I wrongly alleged that Ms Gorgianeh chose one of the most disgusting antisemitic symbols, a blue octopus, as her team’s mascot which I held her responsible for. I accept that these allegations were completely false and unfounded. I made a grave mistake in making those posts and I should not have done so."

According to the Mirror this episode was recorded in March, long before the Hamas attack on Israel. Not sure why the team would have an antisemitic symbol in such circumstances?

I don't understand SNP criticising Labour and now the tories for the windfall tax. If there is anyone who should be taxed more isn't it the energy companies who are making obscene profits. Also with the climate emergency ect isn't it a double bonus hitting them

As for the budget bit off a non event that won't change the dial for the tories, just the usual looking after the rich and drivers!

I think if the money was being reinvested in new green energy projects in Scotland then it wouldn’t be so bad but it appears it’s just balancing the books of our economic decline in London.

They are just sitting on the price cap for most anyway so can't. We should definitely be taxing them fairly though the profits are ridiculous. I feel that the snp are against just because Labour are pushing it. To be fair the greens are supposedly pushing from the inside for the SNP to support also

Windfall tax is on profit. The oil and gas companies are able to offset it against " exploration and development" which should be stopped if climate change is a to be stopped!!

The can offset some and I agree it should be stopped but that is a separate matter. The windfall tax is still going to cost them billions per year, good. I'd have thought you'd be in agreement with labour and the greens that we should keep the windfall tax for both reasons of fairness and climate change

That's just the tip of the iceberg.

"... I think she should be shot." You might argue that is just a turn of phrase but then in the context of...

"...we can get her sacked. It's not as good as her dying. It would be much better if she died. She's consuming resource. She's eating food that other people could eat"

Then at a meeting of "foreign" workers where he said he abhorred racism he said "we take the piss out of the fact that all of our Chinese girls sit in Asian corner". According to his lawyers this shows that he just wanted his Asian employees to feel welcome. Also apparently donating money to the Tories during a period that they are led by a man of Asian origin proves he isn't racist. His equivalent of the old 'I can't be racist, I have a black pal'.

He seems to have some strange workplace rules as well. You can't say "I think so" and you must put your hand up if you want to speak but not half-heartedly. You must clean any glass you touch straight away too. Odd guy.

In the murky world that is private social media groups, this kind of chat is normal. I've seen some horrendous chat in truckers forums that would make your skin crawl and instead of getting shouted down there is acceptance and even support.

The problem with these forums is that some people forget to or can't distinguish between their odious little groups and the real world and inevitably out themselves as the **** dwelling lowlifes that they are.

I'm quite relieved to see that these views are still considered to be repulsive in society and that those who hold them are forced to crawl back under the stones from where they emerged.
