I just find it strange that Michael Stewart is recommending him to Hibs. I make no comment about his ability.
St Johnstone's problem is that they've only scored 11 goals this season, they're pretty middling in terms of goals lost.

Because if he was any good for a team with 3rd place aspirations Stewart would recommend him for Hearts. Stewart is a jambo make no mistake.

I think McCart is better than Halkett, who is currently playing for third place Hearts. I wouldn't want either at Hibs mind you 😂.
I think it's probably quite rare that players and ex players support teams with anywhere near the same passion as us normal fans.

Against the grain of most on here, McCart looks decent to me. Very similar to the CHs we have. Still got development to go, but looks to have the tools to be a good addition to the squad…

I don’t think Stewart has an agenda, think it’s just lazy journalism, we were heavily linked with him in the summer so he may think we have our eye on him especially since he can talk to us in Jan, we may still be in for him but his form like the full team have been terrible

I think McCart is a good player and would be a decent signing.
Admittedly his form has dipped, as has the rest of the team and some would say his head has “gone”. They’re bottom of the league but goals conceded actually is 7th best in the league I’m sure, the fact they can’t score is their main issue.
I think he’s good in the air, good 1v1 and got good pace for a centre back. Also think he’s very good at playing out from the back.
I think if we were to get him and played him in a back 3 with Porteous and Hanlon with Doig just ahead of him in the wing back position and he would look good.

One of the things I like about Shankland is how strong and good he is at linking play with his back to goal.
He never scored much last season but Nisbets hardly been a great goalscorer this season.
I’d like someone better than Shankland though as our main striker. Just someone a bit different that we’ve not heard of before instead of the same names that have been doing the round for 10 years.
Jamie MacLaren was one we hadn’t heard of but was a goalscorer and his record in Australia is unbelievable. Think we missed a trick/Lennon made a mess of it not getting him in permanently. Although his link up play was non existent.

IIRC he was struggling with a back injury in his second spell and wasn’t in the team because of that, when he was back he was rarely used by Lennon who started to develop a hatred towards all of his strikers.

It was a shame he ended up leaving, it was a big move for him to come here and he even brought his dog all the way from Australia, think he thought it would have lasted longer than it did. He still posts about Hibs on Instagram so seems to still follow the club which is nice. Doubt he'd bother coming back now he's settled in Aus again.

True but he probably would have left sooner if he wasn’t injured before.
For any team that sign him it’s still a risk he could become injured again - it’s remarkable he’s come back from his Achilles injuries 3 times. Doidge has had one and you can see how it’s taking him time to recover.
Gordon and Souttar are one of the main reasons Hearts don’t concede many - the sooner that link is broken the better.

Picking up players who’ve had injuries is sometimes a way in which we’re able to get players of a higher calibre than we might have normally …..
A lot of our signings have to have an element of risk … younger guys, guys who’ve lost their way a bit, foreign players and ones who’ve had injuries prior to their contracts ending.
Not ideal but sometimes works.

Totally get that but I wouldn't be going down the "good but injury prone" route just now.

Yeah, imagine blaming our head of recruitment for our failure to recruit a player. I blame our ex-manager for failing to manage the players he had at his disposal but when it came to centre backs he didn’t have much options.
As for having done ok? A lack of depth at centre back was the main reason for our early exit from Europe, something we spent all season working towards last year. And now our new manager is having to try and implement his new system while fielding full backs in centre positions.

Given the state of our current injury list I hope Maloney is prioritising players who have been consistently injury-free the last few years at least.
Pretty much guarantees nothing. Jamie Murphy was battering out 40 games a season for 10 years. Doidge has a brilliant fitness record before 1 bad one.

Hearts problem is that they’re changing their payment model to bring themselves in line with most clubs. They want to pay a lower basic with incentives if they do well, guys like Souttar and the boy who left last year aren’t interested in taking the possible wage cut and are bailing out. Gordon is out of contract and will have to take a big drop in wages to stay. Personally I think he will stay, but it depends how well off he is and how long he thinks he can play on.

Craig Gordon is at Hearts for 2 reasons and they are he's from Edinburgh and a Hearts fan. He could have got a higher wage by going elsewhere when he left Celtic, he wouldn't have been short of options.

Without Craig Gordon, Hearts would be in a bottom six relegation scrap. I seriously doubt they’d let him go as easily as some here are suggesting - he’s their best player by a distance and they could not replace him (they only have him due to the unique circumstances of him being a boyhood fan).

Got told one of the Norwegian players that our recruitment team are fond of is Osame Sahraoui.
Looks a decent young player with lots of ability.
From a quick search I’d imagine he’d have his sights higher than us though and also that he’d be pricey.

Striker that was a cross between Drogba, Ronaldinho and Alan Shearer but better than all of them and joining a bigger club than any of those guys played for.
Huge club I think they mentioned in the initial press release.

Hibs wanting to recall Stephen Bradley from Ayr Utd
Should never have been loaned out in the first place. Young Stephen is one of the players from the academy that could fit right into this team. His appearances in the first team have been impressive. The young lad that made his debut alongside him also looked a player but he was released for some reason.

One for the future perhaps but Hibs have been among the sides watching 17 year old Dunbar United left back Evan Fleming who has been lighting up the East of Scotland Premier League.
St Johnstone and Raith Rovers have also been watching the highly rated teenager who had a weeks trail at East Mains earlier in the year.

Speaking of "blind spots", can we assume that Josh Doig is somehow invisible to you? Straight in as first choice left back aged just 18. Also, Josh Campbell has emerged in recent months, going straight in to the starting line up for the semi against the Rangers.
You might also consider that Ross' first season was heavily curtailed due to Covid; that his second season offered few opportunities to introduce youngsters because we were at the sharp end of the hunt for 3rd place, and progressed to the final of the Scottish Cup; that youth football, and the lower leagues where players were on loan, were suspended for a long time due to Covid; and that it was unwise (or possibly banned, I can't remember) to mix first team players with youngsters, again due to Covid.

I guess though that when he went out on loan we’d have expected to bring a few more bodies in, as well as not being hit by injuries.
We’ve definitely had a thin squad - and I didn’t ever look at Bradley and think he looks miles off being able to challenge.
He looked roughly at the same level as Josh Campbell to me, and he’s made a good contribution over the past couple of months.

We also gave Bradley an extended contract at same time we allowed him to go on loan so we obviously recognised his potential.

He was never leaving Hearts.
Supposedly he only trains x2 a week due to his age and body limits and plays games so has it pretty good. Not playing as much at Celtic last part has probably helped prolong his career.
He turned 39 today - not many teams would have offered guaranteed 1st team football - less training and a 2/3 year security deal till he was older.

That was my first thought too when I searched him and watched some clips.
He’s only valued at 500 odd thousand on transfer market although their valuations are all over the place and they’d probably want millions the same way we would got Doig, Porteous and Nisbet.
But he is 100% a player out recruitment team like after looking into the Norwegian league.
