View Full Version : Greggs Winter 2021-22 transfer thread
Probably the day before when told he was going to hearts he said who are hearts! Just the kind of obsessed crap they love over in charity robbing land. Happy to see if he is decent player rather than remember an interview from 4 years ago!
Agree. It was possibly a set up interview knowing that mob.

Which is cringey? Supporters referencing it or professional footballers actually doing it? Either way it’s no big deal.Hearts and their fans obsession with getting players to bad mouth Hibs in their signing interviews.

He is. There is no way the majority of our fans think Omeonga is better than any of our midfielders. That’s just daft.
I think he would excell in this side. Every good side needs a heartbeat. The guy who gives the team its tempo and its energy. The guy who moves the ball, then wants it back. Omeonga does that really well. In a way Claros (2nd season) and Fyvie did.
It's a total myth he was poor in his second spell. He came into a poor side with a change of manager and a season which ended suddenly. It became a thing to say he was poor and he most definitely wasn't.

He will have enough pressure if he signs for us as it is.

I didn’t think he was poor second time round - he just never really got started.
First time he took a few weeks to get fit then since the team needed him badly he was thrown in and stayed in, playing very well.
Second time, he took his few weeks to get fit but we’d also signed Docherty. It was harder for him to get into the team at that point. He had the odd decent performance but his last one was that derby debacle, and it lingers a bit in the memory.
Omeonga’s a cracking player imo and I’d have welcomed him back. Our central midfielders (well, the ones we play anyway) are all a bit samey.

I agree Jim [emoji23], they would let probably be best getting it out there at the start make lighthearted of it address it and move on. Hardly the biggest crime in the world and was a very Hearts thing to do given their obsession with HibsHe could easily fix it by saying they told him to say it and they made all the players have a pop at hibs in interviews. He'll have the hibs fans lapping it up that he's show them up as obsessed and he'll address that.

How can Melkersen play in a bounce game without a work permit?
If he’s injured along with Clarke that’s a real worry.
Need a another couple of players of real quality to come in - said it a couple of times but I think we’ll see McGrath at us last minute again.
We knew he wanted to go south and he wanted to wait as long as possible for it to happen so made no approach. Aberdeen we’re naive, got annoyed and have now moved onto other targets.
We’ve not sold Scotty Allan yet as he’ll be used in the deal.

I didn’t like the bit where it said he’d moved to play right wing in 2021. Surely not our Boyle replacement…

Mueller will end up being Boyles replacement IMO.
I'm not sure about that. I was pleased with Mueller last week but I think his speed is limited to short bursts. I was somewhat disconcerted when Fyvie, with the ball at his feet, ran away from him.

This was late in the game and Mueller was shattered.
Melkerson got injured today in a bounce game v Raith. I wonder if this means we will be back in for a striker.
How good is your source? After the last bounce game someone said Mueller was miles off the pace and had us thinking we wouldn't see him for weeks.

I’d just like to clarify that I genuinely only posted as I felt it was relevant enough to share on the forum. I’ve not set out to upset anyone. I just repeated word for word what I was told.
All I would add (because I’m tapping out now) is I don’t want to say who told me at the club for obvious reasons.

Why not? Have you seen enough after 60 mins last week or have you followed his season closely in the MLS?
Remember Boyle’s first year at at Hibs, it wasn’t wonderful. Imagine if that Boyle had been Boyle’s replacement now, you would be boiling.
We may have to accept that no one will really be replacing Boyle, more that we are using the funds from his transfer to re-jig the squad. Possibly strengthening the team overall by doing so.
Mueller is part of that equation.

I imagine he'll play LM and rotate with Doig. Not sure Maloney fancies Lewis in that role as it seems quite demanding physically, hence the need for depth in it.
We seen Campbell getting absolutely destroyed at Celtic Park so the need to get someone who can play it properly with Doig is important.

Must admit I was impressed with Mitchell at Hearts when I saw him play. Think hearts fans making out they don’t like him are kidding themselves a bit, they were raving about him.
The only things I’m a bit perplexed about is the fact he’s mainly a left wing back and we have Doig, Mackie and others that can play there.
Is he coming in now as we expect Doig to leave?
We needed far more positions to improve than that one imo.
Hopefully still another couple to come in and about 6 to leave.

I think we can forget about Mackie, he wasn’t genuine competition for Doig.
From what I’ve heard from Hearts fans, their opinion has been exactly what I remembered about him.
Excellent in his first spell, poor in the second but it was disrupted with a lot of injuries and never really got going.
I’m pretty open minded about him. I think he could be good, or *****, or hardly play at all……
I think he can play up and down the left or right hand side though and that flexibility is good to have in the squad.

Can't see McGregor or Stevenson leaving this window or in the summer. Both will likely be happy to provide the cover and dressing room experience to Maloney while neither will batter on his door asking why they aren't playing. Very valuable people to have around the club for what is the final 18 months of their contracts.
Murphy will be here till the summer as I reckon we wouldn't find anyone able to take his contract off our hands, while Maloney seems to fancy Wright and perhaps he now has a final few months to save his Hibs career or do enough to earn a move in the summer when he's out of contract.

I suppose the position might be Doig’s at Left Wing back.
Think the problem we have is that Doig and Lewis are very different types- and if SM prefers 3 at the back we probably needed to get someone more similar to Doig in to add competition or to be his natural replacement if he leaves.
I really don't think we've had much of an attacking threat down the left so far so to me it's a signing that makes total sense. Obviously the hope is that Mitchell can still be the player who first arrived at Hearts- I thought he stood out for them the first time he played against us.

Cheers! Thanks for posting! You are only posting what you've been told and I hope this doesn't put you off posting information again.
I find these arguments pretty pointless. How many times have we seen a player initially being supported off the pitch (carried off in some peoples eyes), who then reach the side of the pitch to put weight on their injured foot/leg and then hobble initially before walking off the injury? As they say, there are different shades of grey. Those who saw Melkerson leaving the pitch will describe it in various ways and to be honest it doesn't matter how positive/negative they view it. All that matters is whether he's fit enough for the next game and I'll leave that to the experts who know about this sort of thing.

Hope he kicks on and picks up where he was earlier in the season.
We’ve not really seen what sort of player he’s like over a consistent spell due to injuries. First season was very forgetful but then this one he was flying.
Hope he gives us what we all think he will.

Mitchell is a good signing and straight into the first 11. Hope that with his speed and energy he will be used in an attacking role. Typical of the Yams to restrict him by playing him in defence.
It's vital that between now and the end of the transfer window we ship 5 or 6 out. We now have an inflated squad with so many surplus players. If we are unable to move 5 or 6 on sharpish, discontentment could sweep through the squad through lack of game time.
It's now clear with so many incoming players we are in the middle of transition. Might take until the start of next season for the squad and team structure to take shape, but I know most of us are impatient.

Mind you, they highlight videos could potentially make me look the same way
Probably a load of crap this rumour, What is not is Somerville is potentially a very good prospect. Quick and direct. Very highly thought of at Leeds however has limited opportunities as out of all the areas of the park they are strongest in wide areas. A loan move to Hibs rather than Rangers would be a good career move for the boy at this time.

A lot of change but I’ll be honest I’m not sure how much, if any our squad has improved. Suppose it depends as a fair few are unknown/untested. Boyle leaving is obviously the main sore point and will be a huge miss. Mueller looked the part in his debut and Rocky also looked decent when he settled against Celtic. Clarke is a very good young player but now out injured for a good few week.
What else are we expecting? Gogic, Allan, Hallberg and Mackie to leave?
Any more rumours of players in?

Would like to see McGrath join, hopefully if St Mirren are still interested in Scott Allan then we may see something come of this...
Allan, Hallberg, Mackie, Gogic will all leave this window I suspect, perhaps with the Boyle fee in the bank a few of the players may be looking for a decent pay off?
Would also think that we would probably be happy to accept offers for Drey Wright, Jamie Murphy & Darren McGregor if they arose.

Whilst I think this window has been pretty good for the squad, I can’t help think that we still need an experienced central midfielder. I’ve mentioned before James McCarthy but I suppose we would need to buy him outright due to the loan agreement with Celtic for Henderson in place which would probably scupper any deal.

Here’s a player that is out of favour at his current club with his contract ending soon and knows our management team.
Robert Snodgrass.
Think he’d be absolutely perfect for the role behind the striker and has bags of ability, getting on a bit now but could more than do a job, not sure we’d sign someone that age anymore though which would be a bit silly to overlook imo.
Him or another who is out of favour and quality - Yan Dhanda, he’s a lot more like the sort out board will go for

Currently at West Brom and yes he’s 34, but I just look at the impact Arfield and Davis, Scott brown too still have and think he’d do well here.
Think that position is made for him behind the striker. Wing backs bombing on given him room to move infield and create.

I'd take him on a one-year deal. We've seen the impact older players can make in the dressing room in the past, and Snodgrass is a good guy and a grafter.
Think the wages might be more problematic though.

To pass on a player like him because he’s in the final stages of his career would be madness imo.
Signing young players is all well and good but why does experience in the final third almost get forgotten about? Everyone wants experience in defence and midfield, attacking is just as important as they’ll have a know how and composure.
His touch, vision, crossing, set peices and goal scoring ability would be unmatched. He would also fill the larger than life personality that Boyle left.

From the wording at the time it seemed to me that everything had been agreed so if we want it to happen it happens. In saying that, if for whatever reason he really didn’t want to stay I doubt we’d sign him. If he was wanting a move elsewhere because he does well, there’s no reason we couldn’t do what happened with Jack Hendry in the summer and sign him and sell him again in the same window
