I'd imagine he'd want number 8, which is currently unavailable.

I think the likes of
Gullan
Allan
Scott
Wright
Will be free to go however I think
Nisbet or Porteous for a fee and/or maybe even Newell
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Surely Scott..Gullan and Gogic 1st..
Think Wright may have done enough to stay a little longer in the Utd game.
Allan hopefully stays as he’s still a game changer off the bench.

How come squad number 80 ?
After #2 and #12 (which we use intermittently) the next lowest number available is #33.
We could have given Henderson #2 ala his brother getting #3 but I imagine that's going to Clarke.

Who knows GC. Allan I’m not so sure about tbh!
Just going to have to wait and see what happens I suppose!

Year he was born – not uncommon to be trapped in Celtic's youth system for decades.

Someone posted earlier in this thread about Newell going back down south but then deleted it..
Hopefully keep him but I think others game time will be severely limited.
But 3 in 3 out - we will still be light in numbers.

Yip. I can still see a few more in if they all leave! We may even lose players to fee’s ie Porteous, Boyle or Nisbet so may have to strengthen further

We do have an excellent attack, unfortunately we have struggled in that regard.
Also having the third best defence and attack (in stats) doesn’t automatically mean you finish 3rd. For a side that’s far more open and expansive than hearts I’d expect us to be worse off defensively.
Hearts have scored more goals than us and conceded fewer:confused: I haven't watched them enough to say how open or expansive they are, but it's not a description I would apply to Hibs this season.
Hopefully the signings of Mueller, Tait, Henderson, Melkerson will help make us the kind of side you describe.
Pleased that Henderson is on board. He's not played many games for a laddie his age, hopefully he's going to start making an impact at Hibs. There's going to be some real competition in midfield now, not before time.

Poor form I know but looking at Henderson dispassionately, I do not think this will prove to be a wise signing. Especially as on such a long contract and guess he will be on a decent wage coming from Celtic. He has done nothing of merit in his career so far and has had opportunities which he largely failed in with his loans. Also no longer a young player. Added to all that it means Allan is probably likely to leave who I feel has a lot more talent.
Anyway, will support Hendo 100% and pray I am wrong but I doubt it...

Loan plus 3 year deal from summer.
What’s the script with the loan until summer? Is it simply that his contract ends with Celtic in the summer but they’re willing to let him come now and play on loan?

Squad now as it stands, players expected to leave in italics (assuming Clarke signs):
GK: Macey, Dabrowski, Mitchell, Samson
RB: Cadden, McGinn, Clarke
CB: Porteous, Hanlon, McGregor
LB: Doig, Stevenson, Mackie
DM: Doyle-Hayes, Gogic
CM: Magennis, Campbell, Hallberg
AM: Newell, Henderson, Tait, Allan
W: Boyle, Mueller, Murphy, Wright, Bradley
ST: Nisbet, Doidge, Melkersen, Gullan, Scott
CB and striker probably still needed. Otherwise, assuming we hold on to Doig/Porteous/Nisbet/Boyle, we're good.

I was more meaning in general, I acknowledged we’ve been poor up to this point going forward.
While it would be great to have a better defensive record than them, the poster referenced that would mean us finishing below them. Scoring more goals will be the telling factor in how we finish the season if we carry on with a similar defensive record.

He was given more game time under Brendan Rodgers when Celtic were at their best, scored against Betis in Europe recently and if you see all the responses on twitter from Celtic fans, everyone seems to be saying that he’s a good player but never really got the opportunity. Is 21 not a young player? Porteous is 22 and I’m pretty sure we all consider him a young player.

Presumably with a loan to us Celtic can insist he does not play in our games against them so they have not released him to sign permanently now. https://www.hibs.net/image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhJQAPAJEDAP//////AAAAAP///yH/C05FVFNDQVBFMi4wAwEAAAAh QQJMgADACwAAAAAJQAPAAACXpyPOcKsDyMLlLqIn6jc5m9s1jZ 54CEoogCQrYmkUrICL/sGMqo2e6hrTRo3mi90RLoaOsbtskj6dqkV0 ehJmmhReeb7X6qwArT3P1lLiKdGR09acAwuaQ9sp m9gIAIfkEBUYAAwAsAAAAACUADwAAAl6cjznCrA8jC5S6iJ o3GZ9NFs3Wk2ICehCAqW6rIgIx6UFuMGk1rTxA7IqDZ3A1QuJg EvhrbhZ poJWI/U2EVj3Ezy1uF8P0pgWLtd1Mhc8E4sZGvOHrkXfLF/guwCADs=

Allan doesn’t have fitness to play a high press! Whilst at his prime he was outstanding that time has been and gone. My opinion mind.

There's some truth in that insofar as two iconic moments in a huge game means the guy will never be forgotten, but Hendo was ( is ) clearly a decent player and he showed that more than once at Hibs. I always thought his style was suited to continental football, a period in Norway with Rosenborg where he won a league winners medal probably helped develop that style. I wasn't the least surprised when he moved to Italy rather than a UK club.
Just goes to show how one or two moments in a single game can mean a player, even an average one, will never be forgotten. Stokes can probably be put on that list as can David Gray ..... There's another ex player of ours of course who makes that list in Keith Houchen, he might have been a pretty bog standard Hibs player, but the guy's a bloody legend in Coventry :greengrin

If Boyle's going and there is no sign of it as his Mrs is pals with mine then Celtic or whoever else will have to be paying him one hell of a wage as his new contract was for a very tidy sum, not to mention the fat fee we would want, there's no clause anymore.

Haha! By that logic we might as well shut down this forum then.
I have seen him enough to hold a view. Players and people can always change for better or worse. I am just saying the evidence is that he will need to improve a lot and prove himself as someone who is nearly 22 and played a handful of games, few of which have been good. Easily doable of course and there are many examples to look to. Personally would have preferred we preserved with Allan in getting him back to fitness but still happy to back the player and the management's decision.

Yeah he is a few years older than Ewan. I believe Jamie was on Livingstons books for a spell but not sure where he is playing now?
This will be a very unpopular opinion but if it wasn't for the two corners in the final and the famous "Henderson to deliver" line i think i would have struggled to remember him playing for us.Turned the 2-2 game at Tynie in our favour. Always tenacious and a great crosser of the ball. Remember him outwith the final as a player we should have pulled all the stops out to sign.

He could save us a lot of points a season like Gordon at hearts.
That said I actually really rate Macey, with the exception of his kicking. Think he’s made some brilliant saves this season but doesn’t get the recognition Marciano did because he’s not quite as dramatic.
He’s also at a good age.

I listened to Maloney's podcast with Tom English (I know, I know) the other day. Talked a lot about how the best coaches (Martinez etc) can improve players at any age. I think he knows the potential of Henderson (from his time at Septic) - and of the other young players we are signing - and thinks he can improve them a lot more. Think that's an important consideration in terms of who we are bringing in.

Squad now as it stands, players expected to leave in italics (assuming Clarke signs):
GK: Macey, Dabrowski, Mitchell, Samson
RB: Cadden, McGinn, Clarke
CB: Porteous, Hanlon, McGregor
LB: Doig, Stevenson, Mackie
DM: Doyle-Hayes, Gogic
CM: Magennis, Campbell, Hallberg
AM: Newell, Henderson, Tait, Allan
W: Boyle, Mueller, Murphy, Wright, Bradley
ST: Nisbet, Doidge, Melkersen, Gullan, Scott
CB and striker probably still needed. Otherwise, assuming we hold on to Doig/Porteous/Nisbet/Boyle, we're good.

Our expected goals conceded (which is a stat evaluating the number and quality of shots we have faced) versus our actual goals conceded is up there with the worst in the league. That coupled with his reluctance to take crosses and his dreadful distribution make him the player I'm most keen to see us replace in the entire squad. Defence was excellent last season, only one thing has changed.

Porteous in and out. Doig /Stevenson. Changing midfield etc etc. more than a change in keeper is responsible for our defensive record. I’m not sure you can just claim one thing has changed and put it on the goalie. By the way he comes out and either catches or punches much more than Rocky ever did IMO. I’d also wager that McGinns for has dipped greatly on the right hand side this season. Just as an aside. Who dictates what a quality shot is? Is it an opinion or is there a science to it? Will be interesting to see whether Newell gets back in the side straight away. There’s only really two places up for grabs in the middle of the park and we’ve done well without him. Remember Ross bringing him back in and disrupting a good balance we’d found without him last season.

Statistically the 9th best ball winner in the league, including all defenders.
Most people on here only seem to acknowledge the defensive contributions of central midfielders if they're built like gogic or Bartley.
People seem invisible of his work rate and ball winning ..not sure why - anyway think I’ve taken this transfer thread way off topic so will let this theme lie for now . [emoji106]

Genuinely interested. I’d like to think expected goals conceded would be zero. The coveted clean sheet.:greengrin
I don't know how the shots are evaluated. I'm led to believe that there is some sort of science to it however. I agree that there have been other changes, you are right, but the XC v C is still damning. FWIW, Zander Clark is poorly ranked every season, so I don't want him either

Square and reverse pass specialist . Can't score .
Nah, come on that's not true.
And I'm not a huge lover of Joe Newell. I think he's alright - I wouldn't put him in the category of a few players that I'd be pretty disappointed to see move on (but equally not desperate to see the back of him), and I don't believe he's our best midfielder and definitely don't buy that every team outside the old firm would be rushing to have him.
But he's more than what you've made out above. Do any of our midfielders score goals other than the absent Magennis?
EDIT** I'm also guilty of forgetting this is the transfer thread :aok:

Gogic surely.
Good to see Henderson signing, seemingly a very decent talent, also like to wish young Gullan all the best, I still feel he never really got his chance here but he's at a club where he's done well previously and the fans like him.

Cannot agree at all about JDH. He’s in before Newall. Moves the ball quicker and is far more industrious in that role. We don’t miss Newall when he’s not in the team. We do when JDH isn’t.

If JDH turns out to be better than McGeough then he will be absolutely outstanding. McGeough was brilliant at Hibs and for me the best midfielder we've had at the club in about 10 years apart from McGinn.

McGeouch was a level above Newell, at the very least in terms of influence if not ability. That's partly due to the balance of who was around him, and even though I like Newell Dylan could dictate and dominate games in a way that not many other Hibs midfielders have done.

He’s absolutely rapid and very good going forward, probably more comfortable on the ball than Cadden. Can see them two battling it out for wing back.

Read on here earlier that for actual goals conceded we’re 4th. Not bad - plus he comes for crosses and his distribution is no worse than almost every other goalie in the league.
A noisy minority going on about it a lot and that’s the most dangerous thing for him - imagine when he actually makes a mistake. At the moment a lot of folk are just expecting him to make one…
