He's one I'm most intrigued about

Seems like a massive investment by us

Mueller won't come cheap either

Looks like we mean business

He's worth the fee as a replacement for Scotty Allan's hair alone.

I watched a bit of the Celtic view on YouTube, granted it was just one fans view but the talk there was hes almost 22, didn’t really make the impression he’d hoped to on loan at Ross County, showing no glimmer of a first team chance so a permanent move seems the logical thing to do. He scored against Real Betis which caused a bit of excitement at the time.

I remember Liam saying in an interview his brother was always a better player than he was.

Henderson is the most risky of the three. At 22 he hasn’t made the breakthrough into adult football. That’s always a gamble.
The only positive is that Maloney knows him so that may give him more confidence that us.

Liam saying he was better is meaningless. Even allowing for him bugging up his brother, he’s talking about in age group football. In adult football, Liam is the only one who has made any impression.

This is what's really exciting me about the direction that we're moving in. Shaun Maloney and his backroom team won't be cheap considering he came from the assistants role at Belgium but if he develops into as good a manager as we hope then we're going to benefit hugely.

If Melkersen continues his development and keeps banging them in both in the league and at international level, we may be able to make at least ten times that transfer fee back a couple of years down the line and have a top level player at the club.

It's all higher risk but rewards wise it's way more exciting.

Hearing from Ryan Taylor (Daily Express) on Twitter there's a 'break clause' in the Harry Clarke deal and I think it means what happened with Ross County could happen to us in the summer or next January.

I think that is more or less standard these days for loans. Didn't we send Nathan Wood back early to Middleborough? We have also recalled Steven Bradley from his loan at Ayr.

Makes sense not announcing all the deals in one go. You wouldn't want a loan deal deflecting interest away from signing a 19 year old on a 4.5 year deal.

If we do sign Ewan Henderson, where does he fit in?
If Maloney sticks with a 3-4-3, is he athletic enough for the two central midfield roles, where we already have Newell, Campbell, JDH, Tait & maybe a returning Hallberg, with Magennis hopefully recovering too, assuming Gogic is not in the long-term plan? That only really leaves left of the main striker since Boyle is nailed down on the right.
Depth and versatility are obviously important and Henderson is good with both feet but we have Mueller, Mackay, Wright, Murphy & Allan also in contention for that problematic attacking position on the left and possibly even Nisbet if Doidge goes through the middle, with Bradley to come back.
A few of the guys mentioned will be moving on sooner or later and we need quality cover but does Henderson start in our best XI in the second half of the season?

Clarke's first job will be to replace the suspended Porteous and then he's probably in competition with McGinn for the third centre-back position on the right.
Good to get Mueller in if Boyle misses a few games playing for the Aussies but we don't know how he'll adapt.
The Norwegian kid is more of a punt for the future and that deal looks harder to get done than the others, given interest from elsewhere and foreign signing red tape.
Building a squad and succession planning are important but it would be great to find someone in this window who would make an instant impact and really lift the team as an attacking force. Fingers crossed...

Anything I have read suggests Maloney sees Henderson as playing the No 10 role He was very versatile for Celtic but Maloney seems to have earmarked a specific role fir him So sounds like he is going to be integral to the team going forward
Although his versatility will come in handy as well

I have to admit that i am uneasy about this transfer window.

Harry Clarke,he has been part of one of the worst defences in the league, not only this season but last season at Oldham also, only last week he gave both goals away against that lot.

Ewan Henderson,Has been at both County and The Pars and by all accounts left no impression.

Elias Melkersson,Has yet to start a 1st team game for Bod/Glimt and has been playing in the Norwegian 2nd division in front of 1000 fans yet we are spending (allegedly £400 k on him????)Would rather go for Rudden.

Missing out on McGrath to the sheep is a massive blow.

All sounds a bit panicky and mental to me,who has scouted them?Ian Gordon?Matie before he left?Nobody knows do they.:cb

That would mean defender - midfielder and striker added.

Then it’s wait and see if we add another or if anyone else leaves..

If he scores two goals against the Hearts and leaves for £2m I'll be more than happy.

DLC's best and worst game for us imo was a game against Aberdeen I think we drew 4-4.

We should really be aiming to split the Old Firm now,ok we had a poor start to the League but with Ron's continued level of financial support and Ian Gordons 1st class contacts in the game the sky is the limit.

I agree with some other posters,if we can get a few good years out these guys and sell for millions we will continue to progress, hoping we get £4 million for Nisbet this window,£5 million for Boyle and if Paterson is worth £12 million surely Doig must be worth what £8 million?

That could really see Hibs potentially challenge for the group stages of the Champions League,if we can pick up Gems like JDH also will help a lot.

What would really help more is getting more than 9000 into the stadium for homes games, then we can really take off.

😂 Such a lazy attempt.

From concerns about the signings to splitting the Old Firm in about 2 or 3 posts. Almost as quick as the Hearts fans going from Mueller being a real coup when they thought he was signing for them to an expensive dud in the space of an hour when it was revealed we had signed him.

You're the one sounding a bit panicky and mental but don't worry, the business we do this window will see us bring in the players Maloney needs to close the gap to Hearts. Putting the derby back a month should help as it'll allow the new players some time to bed in and with Hearts not looking like bringing many in and just about to lose their best player (for next to zero £), they'll probably be a bit weaker at the end of the window.

Hearts fans are obviously getting worried about it so no need for Hibs fans to panic.

Not keen on Elias due to where he’s played but wants Rudden who’s played his career so far in the dregs of Scottish football (league one mostly and 6 months in the championship). Makes complete sense to me!

Winston Ingram

This is probably worse than before. I’m not sure though

You won, Jane. Enjoy the money, I hope it makes you happy. Dear lord, what a sad little life, Jane. You ruined my night completely so you could have the money and I hope now you can spend it on lessons in grace and decorum. Because you have all the grace of a reversing dump truck without any tyres on. So Jane, take your money and get off my property…

That was the best telly i think i ever watched, the pain on the other contestants faces was a joy to watch, and his anger at not winning a bloody cooking show was priceless. :top marks

Really don’t know why players get booked for time wasting when time is added on at the end, means time hasn’t been wasted.

You’re lucky if a ball is in at for 55 minutes in a match. No chance all the time wasted gets added.

Sometimes wonder if we’ll one day move to 60 minute matches where the clock is stopped whenever out of play

He does seem a rather exciting prospect and Hibs clearly have high hopes for him especially as they are happy to splash cash on a 19 year old rather than promote from our youth team.

A note of caution I would like to inject here though is that many seemed to be excited about the signing of another 19yr old signing Nathan Wood, “England’s u20 captain”, “straigt into the first team easy” were many people’s thoughts.

Hopefully this lad hits the ground running but I also hope people are patient with him.

But with a Benefactor ,snd lots of Mugs ploughing I in hard earned cash to their club ,that is often wasted in crap players Hearts already think they can spilt them
Let’s just wait and see how this young crop of talent grow into the team
But probably too soon to expect them to pump The Jambo s in next Derby ? What do you think ?

I think there is a clear difference between the two. One has been tracked closely (you'd assume) and we've paid a 400k fee, the other was a panic loan at the end of the window and clearly wasn't rated by anyone at the club.

Fair enough, although I guess the point is that promising young players don’t always come good.

Short term fix or not, Nathan Wood should have been good enough for this division, based on his pedigree.

The difference is that our new guy will be offered a lot of chances to show what he can do. Also, strikers get more opportunities to get minutes as subs, but centre backs rarely do.

Wood had a bizarrely awful debut and then was dropped.

The ball boys at Parkhead will see more action than he will at Celtic - yet another example of a young talent being badly advised if he does sign for them.

I thought Shaun’s interview recently post game name dropping the Mowbray (Hibs) era was very telling - clearly wants a group of young, hungry talented footballers around three or four senior pros. If the lad wants chances to play, Celtic isn’t the best option for him. If he wants 3 years of decent salary then wilderness, they’re welcome to him.

I’m very excited at the signings we’re making and I hope the support realise that like Mowbray, there’ll be some brilliant football in the main but some learning and maybe the odd harsh lesson along the way.

Clarke looks a very good acquisition.

Hasn’t Nathan Wood only really played age group football up to now? If so, that makes his situation very different from Melkerson, no?

Young hungry players are the best for Hibs. We give them the platform and will happily sell them on as they move upward in the game. Starting to see the blinder Hibs have played with keeping the likes of Gray, McGregor, Stevenson, Hanlon and McGinn. Critical we have guiding heads that are content to advise a younger player that may take their place in the team.

Says a lot about these guys as well. Tremendous professionals. Gray's move into coaching was dignified and no fuss.

You are right, we will need to put up with youthful mistakes on the pitch. Although, in my experience fans are most patient with youth.

Good player but very like Jackson Irvine, immobile, has one good game in 5, and quite limited - I think Fuchs is an excellent player, bags of energy and I'd need to look but think its no coincidence that they've not won games since his absence.

Think Fuchs can talk to clubs now Aldo (need to check), but for me, getting a talent like Dembele for 6 months would be a coup and put 'bums on seats' - such a good player and won't get time at Celtic post injury. Plus he ripped Hearts a new one when he played against them :greengrin

Could be the Scottish version of Freddy Adu.

Sligo Rovers deal to sell Johnny Kenny to Celtic will have add-on clauses to go with the €150k initial release fee.

Understand a good sell-on clause and additional money for a number of first team appearances at any level will be part of final terms.

Fuchs ability on the ball is nowhere near good enough for the way Maloney wants to play.

Worst centre midfielder in the league when it comes to the number of missplaced passes, poor touches and times dispossessed per match.

I understand why folk rate him as he is fast, full of energy and great in the tackle but his technical ability is atrocious. He will always look good when playing against teams that have more possession than his.

Which is all fair & well. I’d like to see how many transfers like this have led to the player making it into Celtic's 1st team. Theres a good chance all the players they’ve signed of the same ilk have believed they could make it there & sadly didn’t even get a sniff

I wonder how many 18 year olds Hibs sign who make it?

Equally, he could go to Celtic and turn out like Forrest, Tierney, McGregor, Ralston, Welsh, Armstrong, Christie, Frimpong, Ajer, Dembele, Edouard etc, or like Gilmour or Paterson from the Huns.

Either way, he will be a very wealthy young man, and if he doesnt make it there, he will.more than likely move to a club at or around Hibs level anyway.

Pretty easy decision ultimately.

Not really a valid comparison. Byrne and Mulhall both joined our academy so still had quite a way to go in their development to determine whether they would have a professional career. Kenny is already playing regular first team football, he’s about to go from that to probably playing youth football again while trying to get a chance ahead of strikers who cost millions of pounds and play internationally.

Not a rumour but wonder if we'll be looking at McCarthy from St Mirren. Were we not linked with him in Summer briefly with Ross?

Think he's injured currently, but a young centre back who sounds like he's quite decent. Contract is up at the end of the season.

Just had a quick check, St Mirren lost 3 from 12 of the league games with McCarthy playing this season. And have gone on to lose 3 of 6 since his injury, not winning in the other 3 games too.

Thats not a chronic issue though. Yes its needs improvement. Every part of the team needs improvement. But the majority blame the defence when statistically its our attack that has let us down this season. Its worth watching the Longbangers recent podcast where they have scored the team mid season. Attacking players are scored higher. Thats a built in bias towards what people see as the exciting part of the team. But statistically our attacking players havent delivered this season (yet!).

No one is saying we dont have defensive issues.

I believe we do but it’s not the back line in my opinion. We have a very capable back three but they need support that they rarely get from the middle and front lines. We are exposed wide every game when the McGinn or Doig/Stevenson are left to juggle two or three attackers whilst our midfielders and especially our wide attackers admire from a distance. This also leads to Hanlon
and Porto being pulled out of position.
We already see signs of this improving under Shaun Maloney but it has to be sustained if our defenders are to have a fighting chance. Far too often they have been made to look bad. Time to step up Murphy/Boyle/Newell/Doyle-Hayes etc.

With Nisbet fairly isolated and playing a combo of JDH/Newell/Gogic, it was very stagnant.

I do think this will change under Maloney due to 2 main factors. Firstly he wants to dominate possession more and secondly he wants us to press the opposition properly.

Bizarrely Jack Ross was not really interested in either of those things. He was happy to surrender possession to the opposition and ask them to break us down. It worked last season but this year we just gave teams far too many chances to cross the ball or get into our final third without any real pressure. That will change.

We have Stevenson who can cover the left of a back 3 and now Clarke to cover McGinn. If we didn't get any further defensive reinforcements, I think we're fairly well equipped now.

I hope he'll not be used as some sort of bargaining chip if they go after Boyle.

If that was the case we wouldn’t be accepting it was a loan with view to buying him at end of loan period
What is a nonsense is that the player according to the press is told he is free to find another club as Celtic don’t want him
We then express an interest and it’s a Loan initially so he can’t play against them

sky sports reporting the Henderson move is a loan....thought we were signing him on a permanent?

Heard a few days ago that we wanted him permanently, Celtic wanted a gentleman’s agreement that we wouldn’t play him against them. We wouldn’t agree to that hence the loan.

Then again if it's a loan we could be paying zero % of his wages.

My comments were based on the assumption that he is signing. Hopefully we'll get an announcement soon.

Agree. I think there will be a special "delivery" message for young Henderson.

Edit: Something like "Expecting a delivery?" or "Time for a delivery?".

Hilarious nonsense from Celtic as usual. Deemed substandard and not good enough for them, but they fear him in a Hibs jersey :greengrin.

Makes complete sense to be fair.

Celtic are at a much higher standard than us. Someone not good enough for them could still benefit us.

Why are we buying players for our 7th XI? This is outrageous.

There is nothing chronic about our defence. Just to add some context. We have the 4th best defence in the league this season. We have the 7th best attack in the league. Myabe just maybe our issues are at the other end of the pitch.

Given the aim is to finish 3rd then having the 4th best defence in the league is falling short of where it needs to be. We would need an excellent attack in order to compensate for it.
I would say both areas need massive improvement. Unless you happy finishing behind Hearts?

We do have an excellent attack, unfortunately we have struggled in that regard.
Also having the third best defence and attack (in stats) doesn’t automatically mean you finish 3rd. For a side that’s far more open and expansive than hearts I’d expect us to be worse off defensively.
