So now we’re told PM and one other according to JR on STV. That’s not nearly enough.
See to be honest, I never expected that we’d bring in 5, 6 or 7 players this month. We were never going to fix all of our problems in this window. What would concern me is if we continue to ignore the obvious in the middle of the park.
The most positive thing to come out of this window might be the folk we’ve managed to get off the wage bill, come the end of it.

Am I the only one who finds this transfer window tedious? Bed wetting and gnashing of teeth every January year after year.
How can you blame folk for “bed wetting” we’ve brought in one player on loan for 6 months, Bogdan was already here really
Still without having addressed CDM as yet
People are concerned we still seem to be scrambling to get people in?

Ross saying more could be leaving...will we be able to put out a starting 11?
"I would imagine there would be some activity both in and out before Friday." - from BBC.
Surely not..even if we get 3 in we cannot afford to lose anyone except maybe James?

It's that way because the last 3 summer transfer windows have been terrible. Vela free transfer shows that more than anything, signing McGinn while we have James shows it as well. We always need to fix the team in January for some reason.

Hopefully that changes with Ross. Remains to be seen what type of players he brings in. But I’m encouraged that he’s come in and recognised that players like Maxwell and Vela weren’t up to it and acted on it as soon as he could really.
McGinn doesn’t exactly inspire me but I can see the logic in it from his point of view.

Still time to bring in a couple and change the complexion of this window. As it stands it doesn't look good tho tbh. There doesn't seem to be much of a budget available unfortunately. I didn't expect us to solve all our problem areas but I thought we'd definitely have addressed the defensive midfield position.

What is more tedious is that, again, we’re relying on the January window to try and salvage our season.
At least you could argue that in previous seasons it worked - we got in the players we needed, our form in the 2nd half of the season drastically improved to the level it should have been at and over the course of each season we came close to finishing where we should.
This season feels different. All the signs are saying that we're short of cash, when we shouldn't be. If this is the way it is with record season ticket sales, I hate to think who would be playing for us if those sales slumped - and as it feels very much like those season ticket holders are being taken for granted I don't think it would be much of a surprise if that happened.

That’s the impression he gave in his interview. I would have thought the manager would be calling the shots and the recruitment team coming up with the options. It follows with Oli going permanent when JR thought it would be on a loan deal. In other words he had no say in it. Seems a bit odd if correct.

Notoriously difficult window with clubs only knowing transfer movements once they've got things lined up - people need to stop the panic. Hibs have always brought players in during the January window. Looks like a few players we like are at clubs who themselves will be negotiating players in before they allow moves.
It's this summer I hope the club show some real creativity and get some signings in that will create the basis of a new side. The defence in particular has had it's day for me. Can't fault their achievements but for the 'next level' we need to replace Lewy, Hanlon, SDG, and Daz with first picks - younger, more dynamic, and hungrier - and fitter / less injury prone.

The manager expected a loan deal but was quoted as saying things changed quickly and the player expressed a desire to move permanently. There’s no chance Shaw leaves if Ross didn’t give it the all clear, IMO.
Also think Ross is playing it down a bit today just in case we don’t get the players we want in before Friday. I reckon we’ll get three in (striker, midfielder, McGinn).

He must play some part in trying to convince players that his team and methods are right for the players we’re trying to sign though. It’s usually the managers influence (apart from cash) that makes players choose to sign for clubs. As I’ve no idea how they work at Hibs I’m only guessing that the manager would or should be involved, it’s how it used to work.

The head coach will have a huge say in who he wants in and will play a big part in trying to get them to sign but after that Mathie and Leeann will take over negotiations, it's not really that hard to understand, that's why he doesn't know who's coming in yet, lots of things to be finalised before a player finally signs.

I wish we were still as average as we were in the first half of the season when we were winning at Ibrox, picking up a point at Parkhead and winning more games than we lost.

Was saved big time in the January. It seems every year January is short term used to cover up a **** summer.

We were in 4th place, where we finished, and had been in the League Cup semi final. Hardly trying to salvage our season.

No disagreement there. We were good in the first half of the season, we were very good afterwards.

That’s just not true. The panic set in when I realised we never had players lined up to bring in to address our glaring weaknesses.
The point is, why is there so much panic on the thread?
We all want players in.
Getting players in now or tomorrow or the next day makes absolutely no difference to the situation. They can’t play tomorrow anyway.
If we are sitting here a few hours before the close of the window in this same position then I see the need to panic.
We can all see that changes need made, make no mistake.
But there is time to make them, so why the worry?

No idea why your picking on Stuart. Our squad is week as ****, we are kicking about 6th and the window closes in four days. The same repetition to calm down was being said in the middle of Jan.
Yeah, so it hasn't closed yet.
I can't think of a January window where we haven't signed players much closer to the end of the window than the start of it, not a window that worked out very well anyway!
Take January 2017, for example, which I'm sure most people would agree was our best January window (maybe even transfer window full stop) in a long time. Kamberi & Scott Allan both signed on deadline day. The only other player that came in that window that made any impact, Jamie MacLaren, signed in on 8 January. Rherras, Bain & Cammy Bell also signed that month. We went on to have a brilliant 2nd half of the season even though 2 of the most important players signed on deadline day.
This season we got Bogdan in pretty early & Omeonga in about half way through(ish?) the month so I'm sure we'll make signings over the next 4 days that will beef up and improve the squad. I think you and others can panic if it comes to 1 February and we haven't signed anyone, until then it's just pointless imo.

And ended up 6 points behind them, too many away draws held us back, that and getting beat of the Duncans after the split and those were the only points they won in the final 5 games. :fuming:

I find the language a bit dramatic, ridiculously so when used in reference to the 2018 window.
This season I’d say we needed saved big time when Ross came in, as even after the good win at St. Johnstone were only two points above the relegation play off spot, with 12 points from 12 games.
Hopefully the January business this year can improve us as much as the previous two winter windows have. Happy with Bogdan and Omeonga thus far, there will undoubtedly be more.

At this stage, he does not feel he needs another striker, but that could change if either McNulty or Will Grigg was to move on.
McNulty’s loan deal from Reading could be terminated to facilitate an alternative arrangement, and Ross remains keen to be reunited with the 27-year-old, who was his main summer target when he was still Sunderland boss.
McNulty spent the second half of last season on loan at Hibs, and is bound to be concerned at his recent lack of involvement on Wearside.

McNulty isn’t signing for us this window. He wants a perm away, we won’t be able to do so.

Is the most likely outcome. Where do we sign up for next season again? We even managed to get the biggest meh new owner in world football.

Going by who our board recruited/tried to recruit at the end of this window and looking like we’re going to sign McGinn this window, I really wouldn’t be surprised to see us go for some cheap/out of contract players to bulk up our squad a bit either for now or the summer.
A quick look and I would say the following would match
Stephen O’Donnell -Kilmarnock - Right back
Good defensively and offensively. Knows the league well
Andy Halliday - Rangers - Left back/centre mid
Versatile in positions were lacking and a leader
Connor Mcaleny - Fleetwood - Striker
Fast and very good finisher. 11 goals this season
Vaclav Hladky - St Mirren - Goalkeeper
Experienced and stand out performer this season
Gary Dicker - Kilmarnock - Centre Mid
Breaks up play and is a leader. Sort of player we’re missing
Steven Lawless - Livingston - Winger
7 goals and 5 assists this season. Tricky and pacey winger
Alex Gogic - Hamilton - Centre mid
Leader and breaks up play well for a poor Hamilton side
Tom Grivosti - Ross County - Centre back
Lots of potential
Scott Fraser - Burton Albion - Centre/attacking mid
5 goals and 11 assists this season. Stand out for Burton and knows the league
Jon McLaughlin - Sunderland - Keeper
Very experienced and good keeper
Joe Shaughnessy -Southend - Centre back
Big lad with age on his side, knows league well and was Saints captain
Luke Leahy - Bristol Rovers - Left back
Very good on the ball and defensively in a position we’re short
Luke Berry - Luton Town - Centre/attacking mid
Previously linked with us and has lost his way, goal scoring midfielder
Stephen Kingsley - Hull - Left back
Scottish lad who may want more frequent game time, good player
Not saying we will sign them or that they would be good, but that’s the sort of players I can see us targeting. All out of contract in the summer and relatively cheap options.

This is a list I like a lot.
It feels like the recruitment we did in the championship (when the board were forced to up the intensity level of ambition & targets i e win every game) and that carried us to hampden more often than not in the cups too.
I hope this is the kind of vision / direction the club are going in. They could talk about transfer strategy to the fans without naming players names - it's a bit of a miss that the board dont do that any more. Hope your list is close to Hibs list tho, esp Dicker & o'Donnell.

Think your right Billy I remember a recent article in paper by Gerrard indicating a lot of business wouldn’t be done in January and I would assume the Financial situation is part of that ,with King about to depart
Although many on here were predicting Morellos would need to depart and so far not even mention of a bid
His suspension again v Hearts and Thierry subsequent defeat probably puts paid to their title challenge unless Celtic have a major wobble
Think the War Chest will be unleashed by new Owners in the Summer to try and prevent Celtic winning Ten in a Row .So also makes sense to let go of fringe players on decent salaries who just aren’t getting games or when they do aren’t making an impact
Who they bring in before the window closes will also give us an indication of their-finances
Another Trophy-less Season will ramp up the Pressure on Gerrard next Season to Deliver trophies

By midnight on Friday I'll predict:
IN
Paul McGinn (pre contract, small fee to join now)
Amos Youga (pre contract, small fee to join now)
Marc McNulty (loan, option to buy)
OUT
Jamie Gullan (Loan)
Jason Naismith (Loan Terminated)
That leaves us with no cover for DM if Youga is injured, but JR will probably field Hallberg, Omeonga or Slivka there. It also means we only have 3 forwards on the books. Assuming McGinn can play CB we won't provide any more cover.
Still concerned with the balance of the squad and unconvinced we cannot do better than McNulty. Kamberi or Slivka could also leave providing we have replacements lined up.

I don't think we are going to need to bother with the pre-contract for McGinn. Seems like we are paying the small fee required to just sign him outright anyway.
Gullan will probably stay to cover for Shaw leaving unless we sign two strikers and Murray will be the one going out on loan to Dundee
If Naismith was being returned due to his injury I think it would have already happened by now. He appears to like it here and I reckon he will stay with us for his recovery as we will want to sign him for next season.

It strengthens our negotiating position if we get McGinn to agree a deal with us first. Then sort out the fee knowing he won't be in Goodwins long term plan. To pay for him now would be unwise on our part.
I can see Gullan going back to Raith. Yeah, in the above I've assumed Murray was already on loan at Dundee, i thought it was done.
No point paying his wages while he is injured. We may sign him next season but if we have an option or injury clause in the loan we must cancel that and focus the wages on someone else.

With that in mind, I think he can go back to play for Raith. I think he was recalled just in case we fail to bring in a striker, if we do I'd rather he goes back out to play football than sit on our bench/play for the development team.

I think McGinn has already indicated he wants to move to us and we have a decent relationship with St Mirren after our last McGinn deal. Probably not worth playing funny buggers with them if we plan on going back for someone like Magennis in future.
Naismith got injured while playing for us, we are still responsible for paying his wages for the loan period. We can't just say "sorry we broke your player, you can have him back and we're not paying for him" to Peterborough.
We are on the hook for those wages anyway so may as well keep him up here and make sure we get him back up to speed and rehabbed properly rather than sending him away somewhere else where you don't know how well he is going to get treated if we plan on signing him in the summer.

McNulty won’t be joining us as Sunderland wont sell. This will only change if Sunderland get another striker which is unlikely. If it happens it will be last minute. I believe McNulty is the other of the two JR references over past 48 hours.

Why would you want to criticise what people want to discuss on a Hibs forum? Away to mums.net and do it there.

A hibs transfer thread and some people are discussing the rangers and Celtic transfers.
No one cares
Unreal
I think you need to read the thread title, it is the "Greggs Winter 2019-20 transfer Thread" it is a thread to discuss all transfers in this window. If you check back on the 160 odd pages (and they are very odd) there have been discussions about English, European and Scottish transfers. It is obviously mostly Hibs but not exclusively Hibs.

McGinn will sign.
McNulty won’t be joining us as Sunderland wont sell. This will only change if Sunderland get another striker which is unlikely. If it happens it will be last minute. I believe McNulty is the other of the two JR references over past 48 hours.
I think that will be us. We will be light on numbers and cover in defence and attack and still no DM.
I think McNulty is on loan at Sunderland? I could be wrong though.
I’d prefer we move for Nesbit at Dunfermline, sign the DM boy from Le Harve and SPM from St Mirren. That will do until the summer.

He is on loan at Sunderland. I think he will be here ion a permanent in the summer, Reading looking to release him. If Sunderland send him back I would expect him here on a perm this window, if not then there’s nothing we can do.

Jake Hastie been recalled to the huns from Rotherham. Forgot he’d even signed for them.
They have some amount of midfielders.

No idea why your picking on Stuart. Our squad is week as ****, we are kicking about 6th and the window closes in four days. The same repetition to calm down was being said in the middle of Jan.
4 days is an eternity in this window. Probably about 50% of the business done in January happens in the last 4 hours!

It seems Dundee lobbed us Mackie back once he got injured don’t se why we can’t do the same with Naismith

Guess it depends if they think their rehab is better than ours. Thats probably why we have Mackie.Dundee and us still have to pay.

Remember how Hearts treaded a young injured Cummings - leaving him to get private and NHS treatment for an injury sustained while playing with them
We all thought that was (and still is) a disgrace
I prefer my team does things the right way

Maybe Dundee offered to rehabilitate Mackie but we prefer to look after our players?

If we only bring in McGinn between now and friday it’s an absolute shambles.
