Many players do you think we can lose squad won’t be big enough losing those
I've mentioned a replacement for each player except Newell/Horgan. It seems were working on a one out one in basis.
what were the issues off the field?
Someone posted a link to a Bolton fans forum and the talk on that was a decent player but liked the bevvy too much, also chat of liking the charlie but take that with a pinch of salt, Underscore says he's just not settled with his wife and it's the 1st time he's been away from the Bolton area in his career.

It's slightly different, no? Steph is a 6 months loan contracted to his club until 2022. The hearts boy has been freed by his club 6months early and only signed for hearts for 6months.
I've no idea how that angry face got there???
Yeah, it's different, but I don't think you can really read anything into the length of time a player signs for.
There must be a good reason that he was released by the Qatar club and hearts might want to check him out before committing to a longer contact.
I wish we'd done that with a good few players over the years.

And a bit of perspective.
A young guy joined our club, moved a decent distance away from home for the first time, didn’t settle personally and the football didn’t really work out for him either. All parties acknowledged this, all parties agreed to end it at the earliest opportunity, all parties win. This is not a big deal.
I wonder what the social media generation would make of a hostile takeover bid from a Hearts chairman?
There’s a time to get your knickers in a twist and there’s a time to hurl all notions of “Hibs class” out the window - this is not one of them.
The guy will be going to be mixing with fellow pros and will struggle to find good things to say about us. That is not a good thing. It’s a shame a wee bit of dignity seems too much to ask.
Spot on, but while there’s some classless drivel on here at times, it’s clear that the real abuse and rampant fake news is happening on Twitter and Facebook.
I don’t know what you do about that.

I was with you until you posted that other pros will take into account what’s said on FB, Hibs net or twitter before signing for Hibs!
Theres absolutely nothing wrong with passing comment that Vela was a disaster of a signing and showed nothing. There’s nothing undignified about that and I’ve not read many disparaging remarks about him as a person?
I don’t think other pros will be taking Hibs fans’ comments seriously - but they might take Vela’s opinion seriously. If someone in the Shrewsbury dressing room was contemplating a move to Hibs, they’d likely ask his opinion.
He’s clearly not enjoyed his time here but if the parting shot is a load of snash on Twitter then he might end up quite bitter.
I just prefer our club to be viewed in the light Omeonga views it in.
(FWIW, to undermine my own argument entirely, I’m not convinced our Twitter/ facebook fuds are necessarily worse than any other club’s. I just happen to dislike the tendency to be unreasonably nasty about someone whose only crime is to slightly underperform in a job, whilst being protected by anonymity. I like to think that when I’m being critical online, it’s a level of criticism that I’d be comfortable making to someone face to face.)

Good post.
When I first moved to York over 4 years ago, I missed Edinburgh and was pretty unhappy. I've no idea how that would have affected me if I had been a professional footballer, but it definitely affected my commitment to my own business.
However, I didn't see anything from Vela that suggested that he was a player, so I do think it's a decent piece of business for both parties.

I am happy enough with the moves we have made so far but I disagree with a few of the other departures being suggested.
We seem to be amply covered for RB and we seem to have a glut of players who do the “free role attacking midfield behind the strikers but no tracking back please” job - when our team can only ever really carry one of these at most.
We need Horgan and we need Slivka - if we lose either of them, they need replaced.
A far bigger concern is how we get value out of Allan, Mallan and Newell - all players I like, none of whom we’re likely to shift and in reality only one of whom we’re realistically only ever going to be able to accommodate at a time.

He had these issues at Bolton too, hence why the recruitment team flagged him as not one to sign but Heckingbottom insisted. I seem to remember someone posted a link to Bolton fans site, spoke about his off field problems.
This was his fresh start, it never materialised. He’s a dud and has been for quite some time. One of his ex managers was astounded that we’d signed him. The lad that burst on the scene full of promise has long gone

If he was even close to being absolutely class then he’d be able to nail down a starting berth in the last 18 months.
I can accept the season before he was new to Scottish football and competing with some excellent midfielders but the last season and a half he would have been in the team every week if he was even just pretty good. He’s not really ever threatened to do that - 80 appearances (probably a good number of them as a sub) out of probably around 150 games since he signed would back that up.
Not someone I’d necessarily rush out the door but i also wouldn’t bat an eyelid if he did move on.

Slivka isn’t the worst shout. In to the last few months of his deal and not entirely sure he’ll be offered a new one. Whittaker playing in front of him in the middle of the park yesterday doesn’t say much for his prospects IMO.

Don’t know exact stats but he plays the majority of the time under Jack Ross, is a full international and captain and has played in the Juventus system. If you added a proper dm behind him and Hallberg they would tick every box in terms of retaining the ball, moving it forwards and being composed. The team for the past 18 months, as you mentioned, has been horribly unbalanced which doesn’t allow him to do his natural job of keeping the ball and moving it forward.

I've said twice that people should be replaced if we get rid of them, but we should be looking to get rid of a number of these players because they aren't good enough.
Slivka, Horgan, Newell, Jackson, could all go this window imo because they either haven't improved since arriving to a level we thought they could or they were never good enough to actually play for us.
Mallan's injury means he probably is with us for the rest of this season at least, might not be a popular opinion but I personally don't think he has it to be a prominent midfielder for a team challenging for Europe.
We are covered at right back and thats why if Naismith's injury isn't serious then James can go in my opinion, if Naismith is out for the bulk of what's left of this season then I think the loan should be terminated, if it can, and we go with Gray and James for the remainder. Unless we have a right back lined up to replace James in that situation cause he clearly isn't fancied by Jack Ross either.
Maxwell needs to go as well because Marciano and Bogdan are clearly better and it seems pointless having him around at this point.
There's a lot of fat to be trimmed of this squad and looking at it seems almost reminiscent to the type of squads we had pre relegation.

Maybe some hyperbole in there but he’s certainly a very good player. He’s played almost every game under JR and will continue to while he stays fit. How many other players improve dramatically while at hibs? The ones who do move on. A consistent run in a team which is balanced and he will flourish.

The penny has dropped it’s perhaps not the best move to hand out 3-4year deals for players unproven in Scotland

I think it’s daft to think about “replacing” players in January. Any replacing should be done at the end of the season so new players coming in have a pre season with their new team mates.
Slivka is under contract, and a proven squad player who has shown he can produce in flashes. He’s done more than enough to deserve to fight for a new contract and kick on.

A proper midfield around him may bring the best out of him but that’s not unique to Slivka. A proper midfield to compliment Mallans ability might bring the best out of him as well for example.
Slivka is a jack of all trades master of none IMO. Not a bad player and can look classy on his day. I think he can be summed up by being outstanding against Aberdeen and then a few days later anonymous against Ross County. As others have said, happy to keep him as a squad player but often don’t notice when he’s not there so equally as happy for him to move on.

Far easier to end a loan than empty someone contracted for at least another year and a half though. Given James and Jackson didn’t even make the bench yesterday and one of them is being heavily linked with a move in addition to those who have went, I think it’s fair to assume the club have acknowledged how poor the window was and are starting to rectify it.

Did James not get injured though? I seem to recall him and SDG both out and hecky went and got another RB, when Whittaker was more than able to deputise their until one of them were fit.
Imo James is a strange one as he was played out of position at LB to cover lewys Injury then got injured himself.
The 2 or 3 games I did see him play I don't remember him standing out as great or bad, and did he not score a cracking goal in the early rounds of the cup?

He was considered to be a capture when he signed from Juventus and was a well established international. Unlike say James, who came from a team close to the bottom of the English League pile? Chances are that he’s well paid by Hibs standards, don’t see why he wouldn’t be or why anyone would really have to ask that question. He’s also not been good enough, systems, shape or whatever.

With regards to Vela- does anyone know if we had to pay him off?
I wonder how it works in situations like that where the player has 2.5 years worth of a decent contract and then presumably goes to another club in Shrewsbury, who, like it or not, will pay him a similar wage.
I guess generally when a player is released from their contract then immediately signs for someone else they are going to be paid up a percentage of the difference in loss of earnings which hopefully is not too much🤞🤞🤞

If that is him then hardly a marquee signing? Not wishing to disparage the Estonian league but if he was really that good I would have thought he would have moved on before now? He has only had 3 caps for the national side since 2017.
Not trying to be doom and gloom but I had hoped we would be aiming higher than this.

Remember we signed John McGinn from a relegated St Mirren. Got Boyle as a swap for Alex Harris. Status doesnt always show the full story.

At the risk of coming across far more modest than I want to, the credit should really be going to the poster who mentioned the Estonian player signing.
Once I had the little nugget of info it was all down to transfer markt, a website I’m familiar with after spending hours scanning it looking for players with good names we could be signing.

What were our expectations when Dundee agreed to let Martin Boyle go out in exchange for Alex Harris?
There are many reasons why this guy might not have been picked up by a bigger club, he might be a late developer.
Sometimes you get fairly average players from weaker nations whose attributes and style of play just suit Scottish football.
And maybe we're better taking a cheap punt than spending what we have in the inflated English market lately.

Clearly looking into the Estonian league in depth with this guy and Reginald Mbu last month.
On paper he looks exactly what we need and plenty potential to improve at 23.
He has also played 7 games in the Europa League and 3 in the champions league
Im past writing a player off/thinking they’ll be a world beater based on their CV.
Nelom, Mavrias, Vela, etc etc have all came in with good write ups or cvs and done nothing
Kamberi, Boyle etc have been the opposite and are 2 of our best players.
The lad doesn’t need to be a world beater, but he could be the missing part of our team that makes us kick on.
I was also told Dillon Powers for United was a great player/find and he looked murder

That's a good return. Although just checked his clubs results on Flashscore and they regularly batter teams. A couple of 7 nils and a 12 nil recently.
The fact he's playing for a side that win so easily will probably make it possible for a DM to achieve these numbers.

Pretty much apart from the last line. Not entirely sure why "Ainsalul" (conjugated form of Ainsalu) was translated as "Saint's" but should have been translated as "Ainsalu" (obviously). So, the second line reads, "Reginald wasn't taken, will Ainsalu go?"
