The other big issue for Trump is that he’s only got one term. Once the conversation turns to who will replace him (and it will fairly quickly) that will start to hamstring him.
I also think he’ll fall out with Musk sooner rather than later and the divorce there will be messier than any similar parting Trump has dealt with before.
I honestly think we’ll see him try and push for a constitutional change to allow another term and if he’s got the back of the Supreme Court…. Nothing would surprise me.

They have a majority of one in the Congress but there are a couple of republicans who are absolute debt fundamentalists and won’t vote for any spending that increases debt.
Expect the RINO slur to be used loudly and hourly against them until their position eventually becomes untenable.

I expect so too.
And if for any reason he doesn't manage that then he'll manipulate the situation so some sort of patsy is in charge and he can pull the strings from the background.
I'm not actually all that convinced he'll live that long. Terrible diet by all accounts and a bit of weight on him for a man of his age.
Scary few years ahead though.

Less scary with the pleasant thought of his demise albeit Musk or Vance may be as bad or worse.

Trump’s New York civil fraud judgment reaches new eye-popping milestone: report (https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/trump-s-new-york-civil-fraud-judgment-reaches-new-eye-popping-milestone-report/ar-AA1xkMoU?ocid=msedgntp&pc=U531&cvid=fd6e4cb3b9634d9a824914a4e28533e4&ei=10)
New York fraud case now stands at $502m
$114k interest per day
and he still owes E Jean Carroll $88m
hope he's been saving up from all that pathetic junk he's been flogging
he can still ask his hard of thinking half-wits to stump up for him, all he needs to do is wear his made in China MAGA baseball cap and donations will flood in

I tend to agree on the Mars thing, I don't think we'll see people living on Mars in my lifetime but the Starship is also going to be used as a moon lander by NASA when they return to the moon and these tests are part of the development for that, with Mars being Musk's ultimate dream.
The space race that the USA and Russia engaged in led to massive leaps forward in technology many of which we use today. The current space race has been taken up by private industry and one extremely rich mans dream/vanity project, but the advances in space technology that have happened with Space X have been pretty incredible and you only have to look at where things sat before SpaceX got involved and the state of and cost of NASA's Artemis program to see how far behind national space agencies are.

I think you need a 2/3 majority in the senate for constitutional change which neither party can get for sensible things like gun control, so there is zero chance they get it to give Trump another term.
You hear people on the far right suggest it every now and then but it’s impossible so they quickly drop it.

This is true, and hopefully it will slow down Trump's worst impulses. He's said that he's got a big list of Executive Orders to implement on day one which may get him over that obstacle, though, unless they're subsequently found to be unconstitutional / illegal. Keeping my fingers crossed, but not overly hopeful.
Looking forward to him holding up those bits of paper with his signature again which have absolutely zero effect because he can’t get the funding from Congress to implement.

$TRUMP coin released last night, I've seen rumours about Trump doing this but never really gave it a second thought until my son messages me this morning asking if I've got any $TRUMP coin as it's rocketing. Haven't checked yet but the reports I did see say it's now worth $25bn in total. This guy, who's supposed to be President has more or less just created $25bn overnight from a Meme Coin, that's ridiculous.
24hr Trading Volume of $40,773,748,171.51 and Total Assets of $170,770,408,310.28 ****** overnight.

It comes with a disclaimer - that I'm guessing most of them haven't read, or don't care about. Can't find again the exact wording, but here's the BBC's summary:
"It included a disclaimer noting the coin is "not intended to be, or the subject of" an investment opportunity or a security and was "not political and has nothing to do with" any political campaign, political office or government agency.
Critics accused Trump of cashing in on the presidency.
"Trump owning 80 percent and timing launch hours before inauguration is predatory and many will likely get hurt by it," Nick Tomaino, a crypto venture capitalist, said in a social media post.
Such digital tokens are notorious for speculators using hype to pump up the value before selling at the top of the market, leaving latecomers to count their losses as the price crashes.
Cryptocurrency investors are hoping the Trump administration will boost the industry."

I was squirming with embarrassment and sympathy for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Don’t get me started on the theatrical performance and ranting of the African American preacher.

The random rant about the Panama Canal, "we lost 38000 lives building it!".
No you didn't. Although there was a lot of deaths due to yellow fever and the unfortunate expected deaths we'd expect back then for major construction projects, there was nowhere near that many American deaths.
Historians along with BBC verify reckon it's closer to 300 US deaths (mostly mosquito virus related).

Is it just me or is some of the Trumpesque bending of the truth by his opponents just playing right into his hands? All over Twitter right now that Trump 'just admitted he rigged the election' with some carefully selected and edited video footage as proof.
It's utter bollocks, in the context of the whole speech what he actually said is clear. He's an idiot but not that thick. It all just looks a bit desperate and sad. There will be plenty to criticise him for in the years to come without just making stuff up. He'll just cry 'fake news' (which it is) and his supporters will lap it up as further proof of the plot against him.

Dunno. But it could be, maybe, a way of getting round political donation rules; the disclaimer on Trumps made the point, several times, that it had nothing to do with politics. Means foreigners can give him money too. It was suggested that that's what the gold watches / trainers and all the other tat was about.

An alternative view:
President Donald Trump views himself as a "wartime president," according to a new article in The Bulwark, but his enemy isn't a rogue state — it's the American people themselves.
In an article published Tuesday, Bulwark Editor Jonathan V. Last wrote, "I don’t think there’s any way to read yesterday except as President Trump deciding that with the Republican party fully subservient to him, he can subjugate the other remaining power centers in American life. He can finally be a wartime president. It’s just that he’s going to war against America."
Last wrote that Trump's war with America is unprecedented, "Or at least: We haven’t had a president view Americans this way since Reconstruction."
Trump made it clear during the inauguration that he's "governing not for all Americans—and not even just for the benefit of 'his' voters—but as an attack on the half of America that opposed him," Last wrote.
According to the article, Trump "believes that Democratic voters should not be bargained with or bribed, but intimidated, punished, subdued—and rendered unable to oppose him in his quest for total power."
And Trump is going to use all the power at his presidential fingertips to ensure everyone falls in line. This includes using the courts, government bureaucracy, and mob rule to get what he wants. Last wrote that Trump released the J6 rioters, even the violent ones, for a purpose: "The message is unambiguous: Trump wants supporters who engage in street violence on the loose. He wants a paramilitary arm for which he has plausible deniability."
Last continued, "Freeing those convicted of violence is a go-ahead signal for future violent acts and an implicit promise that Trump will take care of those who fight on his behalf."
The target of Trump's power campaign is anyone who lives in a blue state, Last wrote. "Trump understands that blue states are the last bastions of meaningful popular opposition to his rule, so he will use the federal government to subdue them. That’s what deportations—and tariffs—are for. These are executive powers which can be used in highly-targeted ways to hurt on local economies."
So, "If you live in a blue state, President Trump is going to use the power of the federal government to make your life harder."

Once he has a proper paramilitary up and running, if that's his plan, I'm not sure that getting congresspeeps to bend to his will will be too much of a problem. Brown underpants for the rest of us, if Trump's aim is to overturn democracy in the USA, as that would have worldwide repercussions. There's already some essentials in place: a supreme court made in his image which has declared that it's not possible for him to break the law; Musk for propaganda machine; he's surrounded by people too frightened to tell him in real time that Spain and South Africa are different places; the normalisation of lying; etc etc. The idea that the US's precious constitution would prevent him achieving anti-democratic aims seems a bit like Chamberlain waving his bit of paper to demonstrate that there was no threat to peace in Europe in the 1930s.

It kind of feels a bit like the heroin/HIV epidemic of the 80s.
2 or 3 decades before there had been scare stories and propaganda about cannabis and warnings that just one joint could send you on a downward spiral of drug abuse, delirium and death. Then came LSD and the same warnings but this time with added 'you'll think you can fly and jump off a building'. Around the same time as heroin really took off ecstasy came along and that was the same, just one pill would kill you and it was the most dangerous drug ever. All nonsense of course but many were so desensitised to the warnings that when a genuinely dangerous drug like heroin took off many didn't heed them. When it became clear in this instance it was gravely dangerous it was too late.
Trump feels similar. People have heard 'fascist' or 'Nazi' thrown about for years. Sometimes justified, other times hyperbole. But now we have people who may be worthy of the name. Modi, Trump, Musk, Farage........ and I think many are a bit disbelieving because they have 'heard it all before'. It's a dangerous place to be in and the opposition to Trump and his ilk really needs to be better. If the best that can be offered as an alternative is another Biden, Harris, Starmer or similar then the rise of the right is going to continue like a juggernaut.

If the best that can be offered as an alternative is another Biden, Harris, Starmer or similar then the rise of the right is going to continue like a juggernaut.I wish I could disagree with you.
Might be time for the EU to be more than a bureaucracy and trading functionary? Never been a better time for a collective front somewhere, lucky the UK has taken back control though.

The pardoning of all of the J6 rioters is really pretty staggering, and has immediately made America a much more dangerous place for many people.
Which of course is the point of that **** doing it, but that country’s descent into the depths is well underway.
I’m curious to know with whom the power of pardon lies with in the UK. The precedent of no or limited punishment for crimes committed in the name of a political candidate is unbelievably dangerous, and it’s terrifying to think where we may end up in the next few years.

The thing that scares me about it is the lack of avenues open to the good guys to counter it.
Rise above it and you risk getting beaten back by force. Lower to his level and you’re just the same as him.
It’s tempting to criticise those who have maybe been meek in opposition and allowed his rise but in truth, it’s hard to see at times what could have been done differently without being open to accusations of doing all the things we’re rightly castigating Trump for - presidential pardons etc.
I wonder if Biden could have done more post Jan 6 to prevent a Trump revival? There really should have been no way back for him from there.

Was talking just yesterday about how the many people who highlighted at the start of his first term that this is how fascism starts, were criticised for being OTT and/or diminishing the effects of literal fascists throughout history.
Well, here we are in 2025, with a president who has just consolidated the private militia that was formed in his name when he instigated the insurrection in 2021, and is governing via executive order - and going after every possible minority. We've even had two actual Nazi salutes during the inauguration.
I think you are spot on in your assessment about people being desensitised to the warnings, and how dangerous that is. But the warnings were spot on.

I wonder if Biden could have done more post Jan 6 to prevent a Trump revival? There really should have been no way back for him from there.
Ironically if he had, then he may have been guilty of what Trump kept accusing him of - but wasn't. He could have directed Merrick Garland to work much more quickly than he did. If I remember correctly, they only started the investigations of Trump after he announced he was running again. So it was the presumption that he'd be in the political wilderness after J6 that was extremely foolish and dangerous.
It does feed into your point about not wanting to stoop to the levels of the opposition, and trying to take the high road. Republicans do no such thing and look where it's got each respective side. It turns out the race to the bottom and the pathway to victory were one and the same. Unbelievably depressing.
The Republican party takes the blame for pretty much all of this. Their utter shamelessness through all of this, is how we have ended up where we are. Once they fully embraced Trump again, they simply won the (mis)information war, and constantly threw so much mud that loads stuck. Many, many people saw the Democratic party as how the Republicans have constantly painted them for the last decade, despite how detached from reality that is.

If you genuinely and truly care about morality, you cannot vote for Donald Trump.
If someone thinks they are a moral person, but still voted for him, then they are deluded, and their morality is really of little importance to them.
Evangelicals have been a massive part of Trump's success over the years, and it's no surprise - he knows a right good con when he sees one. The hypocrisy of everyone involved is somehow both shocking, and yet entirely unsurprising.

Because it’s an extremely complex problem (and don’t be fooled by Trump’s chat of criminals flooding into the country - he’s just released a huge amount of violent criminals himself).
Populists like Trump always claim that they have easy answers to complex issues, but they never do. The talk of him stopping border crossings overnight is utterly ridiculous.
As Ozy has already pointed out, the border is massive. The amount of resources it would take to cover all of it - either by manning it, or resuming the building of his legendary wall - is huge. And that’s just one of the problems.
Let’s also not forget that he killed at least one bipartisan bill that would have seen a huge amount of money, and human resources allocated to managing the border. He wanted to campaign on a problem, rather than have his own party contribute towards fixing it.
Whatever the numbers are like in the coming weeks, he’ll claim he’s fixed it anyway. He’ll do the same with the economy - he’s spent months claiming it’s dog ****, but when it continues along the same path he’ll claim it’s all down to him.

If climate change works as scientists say the flow of migrants won't stop and Greenland will be a bit greener. The Dick Dastardly version has them developing the newly exposed land on Greenland - they mine/frack it to **** paying the migrants buttons/nowt. All those resources go towards building their big space ship and they escape to Mars [see ye, widnae want to be ye].

Watch the video, he’s great. Sadly he died unsurprisingly with weight related illnesses.
He’s a hilarious guy, I only discovered him after he died. His Cuban Coffee story had me crying.
He’s spot on with much of his social commentary.

I’m a bit of a JFK geek. It was literally the only thing about him taking over that J was positive about, and can’t wait to learn more.
One of my lecturers at Uni was a JFK ubergeek and gave presentations on the subject. I sort of got into it through him. Trump himself said the files were “interesting” - I hope they are indeed and it doesn’t turn out to be an inconclusive damp squib.

The JFK film came out when I was 13. I was fascinated back then too, and saw it in the cinema twice.
If Trump has indeed read the files, and there was anything truly shocking in them, I would imagine he’d have blurted it out by now - especially given his narrative of federal agencies being out to get him.
However, he apparently doesn’t like reading anything that doesn’t mention him every few lines!

I don’t think the problem was the deportations. Colombia has been accepting flights from ICE. The problem was they would not accept military flights with Colombians held in chains for performative reasons. Pretty sure that position hasn’t changed?

Colombia backs down on deportation flights after Trump tariffs threat
The US will not go ahead with tariffs on Colombia, after Bogota agreed to accept - without restrictions - deported migrants, the White House says.
Donald Trump had ordered 25% tariffs on all Colombian goods after its president barred two US military deportation flights from landing in the country on Sunday.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro had initially responded by saying his country would accept repatriated citizens on "civilian planes, without treating them like criminals".
A White House statement says Colombia has now agreed to accept migrants arriving on US military aircraft "without limitation or delay".
