I really hope so, and soon. Must admit I would have liked to have heard more about Americans protesting and pushing back against this. I’m not fully over American news to be honest so I may have missed something. From what I do see though it appears only AOC and Bernie Sanders are the only visible Democrats trying to push back. Depressing state of affairs.

I reckon it'll be a combination of public protest leading to some sort of joint action from the Supreme Court, the military and the police that will eventually do for him. Before that happens though there will need to be some sort of atrocity where he clearly goes too far and it's not something that can be painted to be trivial, like jeopardising national security, overriding the law in his treatment of an immigrant or any of the other appalling stunts that he seems to be able to pull daily and get away with.

It'll be pretty scary.

I simply cannot see him pulling off his plan and forever changing America, or even just surviving 4 more years of this.

It won't be immediate though. I think they're going to have had to have experienced the pain of the consequences of the current actions first and that won't happen overnight.

There's nothing to talk about here." This statement is very harmful to the Peace Negotiations with Russia in that Crimea was lost years ago under the auspices of President Barack Hussein Obama, and is not even a point of discussion. Nobody is asking Zelenskyy to recognize Crimea as Russian Territory but, if he wants Crimea, why didn't they fight for it eleven years ago when it was handed over to Russia without a shot being fired? The area also houses, for many years before "the Obama handover," major Russian submarine bases. It's inflammatory statements like Zelenskyy's that makes it so difficult to settle this War. He has nothing to boast about! The situation for Ukraine is dire — He can have Peace or, he can fight for another three years before losing the whole Country. I have nothing to do with Russia, but have much to do with wanting to save, on average, five thousand Russian and Ukrainian soldiers a week, who are dying for no reason whatsoever. The statement made by Zelenskyy today will do nothing but prolong the "killing field," and nobody wants that! We are very close to a Deal, but the man with "no cards to play" should now, finally, GET IT DONE. I look forward to being able to help Ukraine, and Russia, get out of this Complete and

Thing is our system allows for nutters to be replaced, and replaced quickly (see Liz Truss). The Americans don’t have such a system. Especially when the GOP is full of MAGA nuts or moderates who are too scared to put their heads over the parapet.

Other problem is there’s no opposition. Every General Election in the UK we always have an opposition. It may be weakened, but there’s a leader to coalesce around. Not so in America.

I heard it recently described as “sado-populism” which I thought was fairly apt. It’s definitely a sort of populism and the bond that exists between the followers seems to be an enjoyment of cruelty towards the weak, or outsiders.

Folk I know from where I grew up (small town Scotland) love Trump. I hesitate to call them mates any more, but they all seem to have the common characteristic of being horrible ***** too. When you hear him talk, the nonsense he spouts, but the US media don’t hold him to account at all, he’s never challenged on anything he says, so he can make statements of outright lies and propaganda, and nothing is said to counter that.

I think there are plenty people calling him out for his lies, the problem is that the media you refer to is no longer dominant. I think that social media is way more important and it’s only now that democrats are starting to realise this. Touring the CNN, MSNBC etc studios is no longer the most effective way to reach people. It’s through Tik Tok, X, YouTube, Bluesky and podcasts. Or you go direct like Bernie and AOC and hold massive rally’s which are then clipped and played on those platforms.
The biggest podcast in the world right now is anti Trump so it’s not like there is nobody speaking out against him.

Thousands of federal workers have been reinstated and agencies prevented from closing. I’m not saying he isn’t doing damage but he has now exhausted his power as far as executive order is concerned and he hasn’t managed to change a single law through Congress.

I don't think they are. The (alleged) disparity comes about because cars and steel carry a higher tariff and are a larger proportion of the UK's exports to the US than is the case for the EU. That would still be the case if we were in the EU so Brexit has no relevance here as far as I can see.

I would say the deal is actually decent for the UK although cattle farmers may disagree. It reflects the fact Trump is getting desperate to be able to say he’s doing deals. It’s pretty flimsy all round though and I doubt it ever turn into an actual trade deal.
