With us starting the draft early it's sometimes dodgy to make certain selections since guys can get hurt in OTAs, training and pre-season games. For positions like K, you can usually find a serviceable guy later on so it can be a good gamble to skip the K in the draft, see how your roster pans out and then pickup a K before the first game.

Hence why I am not taking a kicker until the last round :aok: I was thinking more of the input of players into rosters once we're done and if it will allow a roster not to have drafted a kicker. I've been using an app to keep track of the players and picks and when I went to draft Funchess in Calvin's team it wouldn't allow me as it said he was required to take a d and a kicker. I just wondered if NFL.com would be the same.
I do think it is a good strategy btw! Rather load up on RB lottery tickets than draft a kicker!

NOW it's a laughable pick.
In case the news hasn't broken yet, Geno Smith is out for up to 10 weeks after a fight - sucker punched (broken jaw) by someone on his own team.
Twitter link (https://twitter.com/benshpigel/status/631154203214368768)
Update:
How do we want to handle draft after we're done with the final round? I know for a fact that I don't want Geno Smith on my team now and maybe NOLA wants to rethink his Arian Foster pick. Should we have an extra round to allow people to replace players that have been injured? The draft order would remain unchanged. If you want to swap out a player then when it's your pick you can do that, otherwise you can skip your pick. I think one extra round should be sufficient unless anyone has been unlucky enough to draft two seriously injured players. The alternative is that everyone's roster is entered as-is and then we go to the waiver wire. There's still plenty of time to update rosters before the season starts, I'm just thinking of efficiency. Thoughts?

:agree: That's pretty much my thinking, I don't see much value picking a kicker at the minute. You're almost able to go through the season claiming a kicker off the waivers each week according to the matchups, although it is more work...

4th on the depth chart behind Marshall, Decker and Kerley. He wasn't going to play enough to warrant any fantasy value. In fact I'd add Amaro as another player who would get more snaps than him. Definitely one drafted with the future in mind rather than for this year.

When the draft is over I will be ensuring the draft order is set up for waivers. I have set the waiver period for 2 days this year this will give teams plenty of time to replace injured players and allow those further up the draft order to have priority for the first 2 days then it goes to FA. I will notify on this thread and PM's when the teams are set up and that will signal the start of the 2 day waiver period. I hope everyone finds this fair.

I reckoned he would have got more time on the field than Kerley who was poor for you last season! I agree that Decker and Marshall are definitely ahead of him in your depth chart but he definitely provided a "home run" option with his speed and ability to get downfield.

Why do you say that? Do you feel the same way about all NFL players who have a history of domestic violence? I'm not supporting what Rice did but people, sometimes, deserve a second chance - his fiance gave him one by all accounts. I could care less either way and by many experts' accounts, he was washed up before this happened anyway.

I say that because i was brought up to know that it is never acceptable to hit women. He was is a privileged position doing what he loved and making crazy amounts of money doing that, so no he doesn't deserve a 2nd chance in the NFL.
What these players do influence the next generation whether we like it or not and it sends out the complete wrong message.

I agree that it's never acceptable to hit women but does that mean we should lose any chance of making a living? Can a person not be reformed? Are people not allowed to make mistakes? Let's say a guy working at a branch of the Bank of Scotland hit his fiance while out one night. Should that person never be allowed to work at a bank ever again? Where would such a person be permitted to work in the future?
I don't want to sound like I'm supporting people who beat women because that's not it at all. I also understand that professional athletes are held to a higher standard than regular people. If there is any silver lining at all, it would be that they could use Rice, and people with similar off-field issues, to educate the people that they influence the most.
I don't really care that much, just playing Devil's Advocate.
I'm also of the opinion the Hernandez should walk into the Pats first team upon his release. ;)

Haha its all good, you bring up a valid point about using him to educate the people he influnces.
Suppose it's each companies perogative if they would employ such a person. Having just went through a bank application there's not a chance in hell you'd get in with an assault charge held against you.

Your receivers are the strongest part of this team. It's rare for us to endorse a team with weaknesses at quarterback and running back, but we're doing it right here! You should have a contender here. But your margin for error in terms of inseason management could be a bit thinner than some of your competitors'. You must remain committed to finding 2015's emergent players at RB and QB.
Players we particularly like on this team include Odell Beckham Jr, Kendall Wright, and Ameer Abdullah. We have all these guys ranked ahead of where they are typically being drafted.
Bottom line:
With great inseason management, we think you have about a 80 percent chance of making the playoffs.
With good inseason management, we think you have about a 70 percent chance of making the playoffs.
With average inseason management, we think you have a 58 percent chance of making the playoffs.
We'll start by complimenting you on your strength at quarterback, receiver, and tight end. As you know, it's very difficult in a competitive league to assemble a team that is strong at QB, RB, and WR, so just about every team will have a weakness. As you probably suspect, we perceive yours to be at running back.
In 2015, that's not an instant fantasy team killer like it might have been five years ago. And in this particular case, we absolutely think you're strong enough elsewhere to overcome it. You've definitely got a good team here, but we'd feel better if we knew you were committed to keeping an eye out for the 2015 version of last season's C.J. Anderson or Jeremy Hill, or 2013's Knowshon Moreno.
Players we particularly like on this team include Zach Ertz, Andy Dalton, Coby Fleener, Brian Quick, and the Panthers defense. We have all these guys ranked ahead of where they are typically being drafted.
Bottom line:With great inseason management, we think you have about a 85 percent chance of making the playoffs. With good inseason management, we think you have about a 75 percent chance of making the playoffs. With average inseason management, we think you have a 66 percent chance of making the playoffs.

I just rated my team and I have pretty much no chance of making the playoffs. Everyone loves an underdog though!
Likewise hahahaha
Overview:
Let us say this as nicely as we can. This team is brutal. It is below average and/or too thin at all three core positions (quarterback, running back and receiver).
To make this team into a serious contender, you are going to need to be extremely active in trades and on the waiver wire. You esentially need to turn over significant parts of this roster. Last year running backs like C.J. Anderson and Jeremy Hill could be had dirt cheap at the draft. Additionally, wide receivers like Odell Beckham, Jr. and Brandon LaFell were available after a lot of the drafts. Quarterbacks like Ben Roethlisberger from last year and Nick Foles in 2013 could be had cheap just after draft time. You are likely going to need to land many of this year's top waiver plays to make any significant noise, so pay close attention to increased workloads, targets, injuries, etc.Players we particularly like on this team include Latavius Murray and Mason Crosby. We have both these guys ranked ahead of where they are typically being drafted.
Bottom line:
With great inseason management, we think you have about a 40 percent chance of making the playoffs.
With good inseason management, we think you have about a 20 percent chance of making the playoffs.
With average inseason management, we think you have a 3 percent chance of making the playoffs.

Last year it said I'd win 4 games. I made the play off final! All about your management through the season I think. Teams will all change by the play offs. Can't wait for the new season to start. Only a few more weeks.

Just rated my team:
We think you're looking good at quarterback and running back, and tight end is a plus for this team as well. Your squad is therefore easy for us to like despite a bit of weakness at the receiver position. But as weaknesses go, this is one is survivable. It's usually relatively easy to find fill-in guys on a weekly basis until a better player emerges during the season. As long as you stay on top of things inseason, you should be among the top teams in the league.
Players we particularly like on this team include Ben Roethlisberger, Javorius Allen, Kyle Rudolph, and Blake Bortles. We have all these guys ranked ahead of where they are typically being drafted.
Bottom line:
With great inseason management, we think you have about a 75 percent chance of making the playoffs.
With good inseason management, we think you have about a 60 percent chance of making the playoffs.
With average inseason management, we think you have a 41 percent chance of making the playoffs.
Relatively happy with that!

I thought it was going to be really easy to pick a player to drop in favour of my first defense but a few of the outsider guys I picked up are putting in some really impressive pre-season performances and are benefiting from injuries pushing them higher up the depth chart and making them look likely to get more playing time!
At the minute, Doug Baldwin is leading the charge of 'likely to be dropped' but as number 1 receiver from for the Seahawks, who'll likely have a better season this year than last as Graham will take away some of the coverage, I don't think I can...
Total headache!

I hear ya but with the Seahawks having Beast Mode, a scampering Wilson and the newly added Graham, do you think it's likely that they'll turn into a passing team that benefits Baldwin? Even if they do, Graham seems more likely to get the looks. I see some upside for Baldwin (I almost took him myself) but things would need to change in Seattle for him to blow through his ceiling.
Imo. :)

I wonder if he's likely to get more targets as he's an excellent route-runner and Graham is going to attract the majority of the defensive coverage...
I had expected it would be Eddie Royal but with the injuries on the Bears receiving unit just now, he's likely to get much more time - even my deep-sleeper, Cameron Artis-Payne has looked excellent (better than Jonathan Stewart) so far in pre-season.

Ok so I've set up a league on ESPN. Please PM me if you want to join, I've set it up with ten for now (got six so far) but if there is enough interest can raise it.
The initial plan is to have a live draft this Sunday night (since it's the time most of us would be watching games later in the season).
Some of us will be playing for money (£10 entry) but fully appreciate that handing over money before the start of the season to some random on Hibs.net isn't the most appealing of offers (though I promise that I'd let folks know before the start of the season how many are playing for money and make sure the winner gets paid). If you just want to play for fun that's fine, all I'd ask is if you join remain active, one member last year had four decent quarterbacks and didn't reply to any trade emails (he was a paying entrant mind you!).
Thanks

Had online draft #1 last night and it took about 90 minutes - there was at least one person who was auto drafting but, for some reason, the clock ran for 2 minutes every single time, so that was annoying.
Online draft #2 was today and that was completed in about 30 minutes even though there were some people on auto draft that didn't select auto draft, so each of their picks used the entire 30 seconds (better than 2 minutes!).
Online draft #3 is tomorrow.
My one was 90 second picks and took about 90 mins for a 14 team league. Was some good chat going on while draft was happening. Doesn't beat the epic offline draft we do!

...and to think he was a first round pick and was going to be the new hall of fame back for the Browns when he got drafted. I had him in my fantasy team twice, never learnt my lesson the first time. Just shows the difference between making it at college and making it in the pros.
My fantasy team is set for 'league domination' apparently. So you may as well all just give up now:hmmm: don't forget to set up your teams for tonight.
Haven't 2, 3 and 4 from that draft all been cut or are not starters now? Only Andrew Luck made it.

:agree:Sounds right. I remember there was nothing to choose between RG3 and Luck for #1 pick, RG3 ended up being #2 and will probably never get another shot at a starting job after getting beaten up behind a useless Redskins O line and having a predictable throwing mechanism. By contrast, seattle picked up Russell Wilson late in the draft that year on a tiny $contract..:aok:

RG3 got busted up in Washington. His knees were shot before he played apparently and his style plus the OL just broke him completely. Still, I think he got $90m regardless!
Wilson will go down as a steal like a certain Mr. T. Brady.

I would love to get involved with something like this but doing it and understanding it are two very different things.Does anybody have any recommended websites which give a guide to participating in it and understanding it a bit better?cheers
There are tons of websites out there. For one example: http://www.ffchamps.com/content/2555/1-know-thy-scoring-system/
At the end of the day it's gambling like anything else. There are no sure things, only statistics and opinions. Look at Tom Brady last year. After a handful of games many people were writing him off.
It's actually not too late to get your feet wet. Find a site (ESPN, Yahoo, NFL, etc) and sign up for a league with a bunch of randoms. That's as good a way to figure things out. They're free.

Hurt already. I had him last year and he was useless

I don't know about that, the Panthers D have put you in a decent position, especially with the way the Broncos game is going, can't see Anderson or Demaryius Thomas scoring many points.

Yeah it was looking really bad for a long time. I'm going to have to make moves at RB can't go through the season with Gore and Crowell

I Don't think it's possible to pick a worse team than I have for this week. 2 wrs and te combining for 0 points
So my 1st round pick is out for 4-6 weeks and i have no run game. This could be a long season. Hopefully boldin can pick up over 12 points to get me at least one win.

Torrey Smith and Darren Sproles need to have career games tonight (ha)
Insanely bad start of the Colts D from me this week (mea culpa). Just needed a bit more from Golden Tate this week and I'd have had a chance.
Just wait until Lev Bell is back though...
Out of interest anyone interested in dez for a RB? I know he's injured but will be hugely valuable when he's back.

I'm not sure you're doing that bad at RB. Ryan Mathews goes tonight, so that will be telling. The Colts were getting pasted so the run game goes out the window. I have Isaiah Crowell in a couple of leagues and have my eye on him. The Jets don't provide a good matchup.
I don't really have anything to offer you. I only have Roy Helu and Jonas Gray, both of whom were inactive on Sunday. I had / have high hopes for Jonas but something happened in New England.

0-1
All of my receivers should be taken out and shot, aside from Eric Decker.
0-1 for me as well. Bad week only 1 win of my 3 teams and they would have lost if ATL had kicked another field goal

If I get the win it'll be a miracle. Running backs combine for 0.5 points total! Kicker is my highest scoring player

Back to 1-1 despite 60+ points staying on my bench!
Dropped Brady in favour of Tannehill as I didn't like our chances for high-scoring in Buffalo (ha!) and wasn't sure if Travis Benjamin's performance last week was a fluke or not!

In another league I lost by 0.3 points. Three starters combined to give my 1.5 points! Those starters....Jeremy Hill (benched), Keenan Allan and Ameer Abduallah. That's a tough loss. This week was a funny week in terms of results.

Absolute disaster for my team last night. I thought I had it in the bag with my superstar RB Eddie Lacy and the Pack WR dude up still due up against the Seahawks, and the Revis Islanders just having a no mark Colts TE up in the Monday night game. the result? Both of them get ****ing injured, and combine for just 4 points!!! And Seattle didn't even win and drop to 0-2:rolleyes:

Dwayne Allen is a talented tight end. Luck is so good in the red zone and he's an incredible box out artist - surely a contender for TD leader after that guy in New England.
If I win I'll be a surprised - I was spewing during red zone last night - Matt Ryan had two TDs chalked off, Kendall Wright got injured, Julio Jones had a TD chalked off, Abdullah was criminally underused, Cutler was a bum against Arizona (so was Clausen) and then the Ravens gave up more points to the Raiders than any team in the last 5 years.

A bare waiver wire: that is the beauty of the 16-team league.
Maybe next year we should see if we can get two 12-team leagues? Start off the recruitment campaign nice and early. Hell!, one of the leagues could be a live draft AFTER the preseason so nobody drafts a player on IR (which is not as much of a travesty in a 12-team league as it is a 16-team league).
With so many teams hurting in various positions, I wonder if any trades will be made....

Our remaining battle is Vernon Davis (FFS) and Mason Crosby vs Abdullah (RB Lions) and the Cardinals kicker.
If Davis gets me a couple of points based on how this game is going so far, I'll be stunned.

I thought I had it won when Julio Jones got his second touchdown - then boom - Murray TD, Green TD, Benjamin TD all in the space of about 2 minutes. Couldn't make it up
Would never have played Alfred Blue or Ryan Fitzpatrick. The only one I probably should have started (and thought about) was Kendall Wright over Agholor - he only seems to score when I bench him.
