I'd be up for trying to get the first couple of rounds done quickly, but I would need a couple of weeks notice to rota myself off.
To be honest though, I think the chances of getting all 16 of us available at the same time are pretty slim - and the price for missing out on the first two rounds is severe!

I'm quite happy to go with the majority. Online draft sounds like a nightmare to organise as well.
While I realise that I am in the minority, I don't understand why people think it's a nightmare to organise. My work draft last year was completed in less than one hour. I know we all have different schedules but one hour to finish a draft seems very manageable. One key factor with a live draft, you have 30 seconds to complete your pick. If you don't make a pick in time then you are automatically given the "next best" pick as per the site's rankings. I said my draft was over in about an hour (I think it was half an hour) but there were one or two folks on auto-pick. Auto picks take no time at all so the draft flies through their picks.
The downside of an online draft is you have to be prepared. You can't analyse players during the draft, not with only 30 seconds per pick. I can see some people disliking that aspect of it. That said, I'm usually prepared, or as prepared as I can be. I don't do much research but I try to look for a couple of sleepers to pick up in later rounds. The first 100 or so players practically pick themselves. Unless I have a total stiffy for a player, "next best" is usually somebody I would take anyway. That's not going to work for you if you need an RB and the highest ranking player available on your turn is a WR. So again, I can see why some people dislike it. I would love to try a draft party but everyone I play FF with is spread far apart and that would be a nightmare (impossible) to arrange.
I'm in this year and will go through whatever draft we decide to go with. I think we should adopt the google docs spreadsheet approach as well since that makes for easier viewing (unless your smart phone can't view google docs).

There is no site (that I know of) that will do that for you unless you're drafting through their site and using a live draft. You will have to print out your own cheat sheets and score off players as they are drafted. Last year we put the picks into a google docs spreadsheet so you didn't have to scroll through this thread, but some people had issues accessing that from their lame cell phones.

I know I am the perennial draft complainer but are we going with the updated list (above) again this year or are we going to try the google docs approach? I ask now because if we do go the google docs approach, the sooner we make that decision the easier it will be to enter the data (rather than entering lots of picks all at once). I'll have my own cheat sheet anyway so I don't really read through the list, I'm just thinking about overall clarity.
Here is a link to a sheet that I have setup. If you want to use it, go ahead. Everyone will be responsible for making their own updates. I know it's tempting but please don't edit other people's picks.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1n8CY89LZnHkR6u5sDI6Au0KInRDulMXX_VZMPiFZTg8/edit?usp=sharing
Feel free to make whatever changes you like with respect to formatting. Last year some people colour coded the cells so that identifying players by position was really easy (useful for flex position and bench spots).
Here is last years sheet for reference:

Use the usual method or wait until you get to a computer. I don't know what people use for cell phones but if you have anything like a smart phone it should be able to open up a google doc. You should be able to open it through the Google Docs app and I am sure you can access it through a browser too. If you have an old flip phone, you might be better off mailing in your picks. ;)
Edit: I've updated the spreadsheet with the latest two picks but I'm not volunteering to do that all the time. :) If people don't want to use it then I'll just maintain my own list.

If he hasn't picked by midnight, does that mean the next person to pick has to make that pick by noon tomorrow?
I think so. I was looking back at last years draft (pretty entertaining read btw!) & think we only had one missed pick which was chosen at the end of the draft. I think that would be harsh at this early stage, I'd suggest that any missed picks could be chosen during a 12hr window the end of each round? I guess that's up to us decide as a league. We are about a month ahead of schedule compared to last time but it would be great to get the draft going at a reasonable pace :agree:

Everyone uses cheat sheets. It's not really cheating. Every football site has their own version but most are the same. The only way you can play FF without a cheat sheet is by spending HOURS (weeks more like it) on your own analysis.
I don't blindly draft the highest available player, I put a little more effort into it than that. :)

Sorry chaps I can't let this go :greengrin Megatron was trounced in fantasy by Beckham last year. I'm not expecting the guy to recreate his stats from his rookie season but I think he's proven over 12 games that he is an absolute stud. Megatron has been serviceable the last few years but he's not the player he was and is injured too much.
Plus Stafford is hardly Joe Namath!

Beckham's stats dropped off toward the end of the season because the surprise element dropped away and he found himself the target of primary coverage, which he often struggled in. Johnson always finds himself as a key target for defense and still puts up epic numbers, season upon season...
Stafford throws the ball more than Manning, who uses his RB's a lot more.

I was tempted to take Luck as one of my two picks, but then I'd have been left pretty exposed at RB or WR. If you don't get Luck or Rodgers then there's a big group of starting QB's that are much of a muchness in terms of fantasy, capable of big scores and small scores in equal measure, so it isn't worth stretching for them IMHO. My draft strategy of waiting for a QB worked last year, so I'm going to stick to that.
James.
20-07-2015, 08:26 AM
:agree: You've got to take what the draft gives you in a 16 teamer. If you look back at last year's draft then you'll see that Sergio was last to take a QB (Big Ben) and won the league. I took Stafford as the 2nd to last starting QB the year before and won the league.

it depends on the player though. IMO Russell Wilson is a great early pick for lots of reasons; he's likely to be let off the leash to throw more this season, we're moving to a more passing based scheme, we've got Jimmy now, he's still going to get loads of points with his running etc etc. I also think there's some good young prospects at RB for this season that will be available later on (I hope!)
ive done ok at fantasy up to now by just picking the players and teams I think are due big seasons.
I'm stunned and a little disheartened to see QB's being snapped up this early! I reckoned we'd have been at least round 3 or 4 before the QB's started coming off the board
Surely that's the point in a draft though that people will approach it differently? I have no strategy and probably should have had one. Would be pretty boring if everyone followed eachother and took a RB in round 1, WR in round 2 and so on.

Surely that's the point in a draft though that people will approach it differently? I have no strategy and probably should have had one. Would be pretty boring if everyone followed eachother and took a RB in round 1, WR in round 2 and so on.
But everybody else's strategy is undoing mine, so I'm going to complain and strumpet til my heart's content :greengrin

There's room for prejudice as well; I'm always going to draft a Seahawk earlier than I would otherwise, and i tend to avoid Cowboys or 49ers or Peyton Manning:thumbsup:
2hrs left for calvins pick then its over to bollah, never mind 😃

I would normally be loathe to take a TE in the second round but I fancied his potential production more than and of the WRs available so it had to be him!

ARGH!!!
What cheat sheet has him so highly ranked? He's an NFL rookie, fresh in his first season out of an immense final year in the NCAA and will take the NFL by storm this year I reckon. I was sure he would still be there when it came back to me as I'm almost certain few people have even heard of him! Good pick Darren.
