Purchased Half Man Half Biscuit at Liquid Rooms next June, so a bit of a wait for that one. Coming up I have Beak in Glasgow this Saturday with support from Snapped Ankles which should be a great show. Next week I have Mark Sultan at Leith Depot on Thursday night then another trip west on the Saturday night to see pigs, pigs, pigs, pigs, pigs, pigs, pigs at Nice n Sleazys. Drahla play Sneaky Petes on the Wednesday which I really fancy, but might be a gig too far. Never say never though..I'll not be missing HMHB, always a great night out. Last album was a belter, mind you aren't they all.

Double header this friday night. Nashville Pussy at la belle angel and then quick march over to bannermans for Conflict.

Party Fears Three playing their annual festive shindig at Liquid Rooms on Saturday. If you like your 80’s electronic stuff, get along. Always a brilliant night with great adaptations of all the classics from the likes of Erasure, Tears For Fears, Yazoo, Simple Minds, Human League, Heaven 17, Depeche Mode etc.
Unfortunately I can’t make it. Previously booked a trip to London to see Speak and Spell, Europe’s no1 Depeche Mode tribute band.

GZA tickets for St Luke’s secured this morning - different kind of gig to what I usually attend and Hip Hop shows are notoriously hit or a miss. GZA himself is a bit unpredictable as well apparently so will just need to see how it pans out. Might be that pre gig nervousness which was the standard for Fall gigs and not quite knowing what you were going to get!

Last time i saw them was down in Newcastle alongside NOFX and Snuff a good few years back. Place was bouncing but wasnt overly impressed by LTJ.

I see what your saying, for me there's a few really good bands amongst the samey type bands. I feel LTJ deserved to rise above some of the other bands out there.

We couldn't get tickets for Myles acoustic set at the Liquid Rooms as it sold out immediately, then about 3 days before the show a friend of my wife from work called her to say she had a spare ticket for the gig as she couldn't go, so we went and got said ticket, the wife was suddenly going and not me. I then took to Twitter and had a moan about my wife having a ticket and me missing out. I got a tweet from Kirsten Sprinks, owner of Cosa Nostra PR asking if I was still wanting to go to the gig, I followed her and PM'd her. Next thing I get is a PM saying I was on Myles private guest list and just to tell the folk on the door, and right enough when I got there my name was there on his private list, there are some really nice people on this planet at times, made my day that did.

Very very average if true.

Stormzy isnt my cup of tea but I can appreciate he’s popular, and George Ezra is just very boring. Not quite as dull as the likes of Snow Patrol who are also rumoured to be headlining but he’s not top of the bill material by any stretch.

I really like Catfish and I seen them at T, I find them very listenable and I’ll see them again in the future I’m sure, but never headline material.

A while to wait for that one, but next up for me is Idles in Dublin in a fortnight. I`m over in Ireland then for a week, and also playing is Lee Scratch Perry in the Rosin Dubh, Galway, and John Grant in Salthill, but might be pushing it to get both of those after convincing the missus to travel back on the Friday night to be back home for the derby..

Gods of Rap gig last night was murder. De La Soul played only one track from their classic album, which the tour was supposed to be celebrating its 30th anniversary. Apparently there’s some legal issues around it. They spent most of their set shouting at the crowd and played about 4 songs.
Public Enemy ended up being Public Enemy Radio, in other words no Flava Flav and Wu Tang were just an incoherent rabble. Looked like zero preparation from any of the bands and the production for such a big venue and expensive tickets was piss poor.

Certainly compared to the price of say The Spice Girls at £90!!!!

My Mrs issuing to the Spice Girls and her tickets are nowhere near £90, I know because I bought them.

That gig at the Liquid Rooms was their most expensive on their tour!! Next Friday their gig in Leeds is only £22.50, same with Newcastle and Carlisle. Even the Aberdeen gig is only £26. So why do the Edinburgh punters get shafted?

Regards the spice girls, someone I know was selling hers for £90 face value. £9 would be too much for me.

So Edinburgh is £4 more than Aberdeen, maybe due to costs for venue hire I don't know. Suppose lots of things are more expensive in Edinburgh compared to other cities.

Of course it's up to you to set a level where you think it's good value. I didn't go but I expect a lot who did thought it was well worth £30 and didn't feel shafted.

£30 to go and watch proper live music is **** all. What does the Luquid Room hold, 500? So £12,500 after tax in revenue. Venue hire, equipment hire, travel costs, accommodation costs, PR & marketing costs, management & legal fees etc. Doesn’t leave very much for 5 or 6 band members. Gigging is how bands survive these days. They make next to nothing from music sales. It’s why the Skids & Big Country play so many gigs these days. A lot of their gigs are tiny and probably don’t turn much of a profit.
£30 for a good couple of hours entertainment is a pretty fair price IMHO. Comparable to football for example, where you’re far from guaranteed a good time!

It was a mixture of him playing solo on the piano, which was brilliant, and answering questions from the audience, and he was really funny and honest. I wasn’t really a big fan til I saw him at the O2 in 2017 and it genuinely blew me away. I’ve never felt such a big venue feel so small; and having been aware of his music for a while, the juxtaposition between his in-song persona and on-stage persona was mind-blowing.

God is in the House is one of my favourite songs ever, largely for sentimental reasons, and to see him open with that was absolute tops.

Had 2 very different gigs in terms of size this month.

Stone Temple Pilots at Glasgow Academy were superb and Jeff Gutt does a great job on the vocals, stood only a few feet from the stage.

Rammstein in Berlin was a phenomenal show but was seated some distance from the stage in the huge Olympic stadium still a great spectacle.

Got Rammstein again next Saturday at Milton Keynes and Alter Bridge in December in Madrid & Glasgow.

It was, it had a real acid house vibe and all the crowd were of a certain age so no hipsters just genuine fans. Alex DJd for an hour or so before the actual gig. An eclectic mix of house and hip hop. Great vibe.

Support to start around 6.30/7 apparently.. curfew 10.45pm.. so I'm guessing Liam and the lads will be around 8.30/9?

Not sure how it works though, maybe they leave a fair bit of time between acts as they're was talk of Dj's playing for the VIP ticket holders etc. There are bars within the gardens (note you can't leave and return, once you're in the venue)

Think they have been split for 10 years! His so stuff is very good and the supergrass stuff probably a bit underrated.

At the moment it’s a 2020 tour only then back to the solo stuff will be a good money spinner for them it sold out quickly and following day added.

As long as 10 years, jeez just checked yep 2010 they split. His solo stuff was not too bad tbh and their songs were typical indie britpop sound of the time and slightly underrated as you said.
