Last year at the punk festival in Blackpool, i was talking to this lad in a bar for a good hour about music. He left and we left and met him again later that night in another bar, where we spoke again for another hour or so.

Just before the pub shut, i'd told him over the course of the evening how i'd never really got into punk.

He told me to look on youtube tomorrow and look up a band called the adicts, only turned out he was their drummer.:greengrin

They were headlining on the sunday night i think.

Nice lad who talked about all sorts of music, but i still think its sheite. :greengrin

King Creosote has just announced a series of shows where with his 9 piece band they will play “From Scotland with love” in its entirety accompanying a screening of the film. I saw this performance at Celtic Connections in 2015 and it was absolutely magnificent. Would highly recommended seeing this.

Saturday 07 March – Usher Hall, Edinburgh
Sunday 08 March – Eden Court Theatre, Inverness
Monday 09 March – Music Hall, Aberdeen
Wednesday 11 March – Concert Hall, Perth
Thursday 12 March – Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow
Saturday 14 March – Barbican, London
Monday 16 March – Bridgewater Hall, Manchester

Tickets on sale Friday

Tickets arrived in the post today for The Sweet at Queen’s Hall on 14th December.
OK - it’s really just Andy Scott and 3 others playing under The Sweet name - but their songs were a big part my teenage soundtrack, especially those written by the band themselves. Most of those were on the superb albums they produced in the mid to late 70s.
A band mainly remembered for the Chinn/Chapman hits such as Little Willy, Wig Wam Bam, Ballroom Blitz, Blockbuster, etc but actually a very underrated album rock band.

:agree:

That's definitely the case. I just found it a bit excessive 2 years ago, but she may have reigned it in a bit now.

I won't be going to see her next year because she's not coming to York or Leeds. If she adds dates, I'll reconsider.

Agreed. I was in my early teens and was initially drawn to them because of my 'love' of Brian Connolly. However, started to appreciate the music more after listening to the B sides of the 45's!! Saw them live twice and once the hits were played some of the set was very, very good. Might go to this one.

Got tickets with the wife for Diana Ross at the Hydro in June. The Supremes are one of my favourite bands. Checked her average set list this year and it’s heavy on The Supremes songs and covers of songs of a similar ilk. Couldn’t tell you any of her solo songs so will just have to go to the bar when they’re on 😀 one to tick off the bucket list.

One of the best gigs I’ve been to was Martha Reeves a couple of years ago at Oran Mor. She must have been in her late 70s but still cane out in the 60s glitterball dress and still has lots of energy.

Going to the Usher Hall tonight. I discovered Karine Polwart at the Queens Hall some years ago, and have grown to really enjoy her songs, her voice, her band and her outlook on life. Looking forward to tonight.

And by way of contrast, tomorrow finds me in Glasgow to see Steve Hillage and Gong. Some serious heavy tripping due at that one, I think.

I was at the Blue Rose Code gig at the Glasgow University Union tonight. Absolutely sensational. A few new songs, lots of the old ones, although Ross never fails to impress me by singing his songs differently every time I see him. His rendering of Edina slowly morphing into Sunshine on Leith was majestic. :top marks

Saturday was Arab Strap's dissection at Summerhall - amazing, funny chat and banter with Michael Pederson from Neu! Reekie and a few acoustic tunes. Fab night.

Finally, after all these years, I'm going to see The Who.

My wife got me tickets for my birthday yesterday. Of course I would have loved to have seen them in their pomp with Keith Moon on the skins, but I'll still enjoy it in Glasgow next month.

Seeing Elvis Costello (again) on the 7th in Sheffield.

They’re still brilliant live and a great show. Hit after hit. I saw them do Quadraphenia a few years ago and Townsend is still excellent. Saw Moon and the Ox back in 1976.

Is this tour with an orchestra? It seems to have slipped under my radar.

I've seen them twice. First time was Reading Festival in 2000 in a line up that included slipknot, Deftones, Queens of the stone age and.... Daphne and Celeste :greengrin
Second time when they headlined Leeds Festival in 2008. They were amazing both times, let's hope they announce a date in Scotland.

I don't have many musical regrets - I've seen most bands I wanted to see in my life - with the exception of Rage Against the Machine.

Noticed they were playing Reading and Leeds, and was a little annoyed their only UK dates were festival appearances. So I decided to check our their US dates (as I'm out there a few times this year) and lo' and behold, they're playing in the Bay Area when I'm there in April :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Saw Rage at t in the park back in 08 and they were outstanding, really hoping they put a scottish date on.

Going to see enter shikari for the millionth time in april. :greengrin

I’ve never seen them live but can imagine they would be great. Of a similar ilk, Pet Shop Boys are one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen.

Watching Bowie at Glastonbury on BBC2 and just realised it was 37 years ago to the day I saw him at Murrayfield. God, I feel old.

The Serious Moonlight tour? I was at that. 1984? Really?

Oh god, I didn't need that particular slap in the face.

I went to one at the Playhouse due to the fact that a girl I fancied at school was going.

Thought I'd hate it but was very enjoyable. And yes I did get a follow up date or two. Turns out she was a pain in the arse though.

Celtic Connections has been superb this year. A wonderful example of how to run a festival online. I hope others will follow their lead.

I've still got the closing event to watch, but I have watched a few things I would have missed that I've enjoyed.

The final night was good, especially the last song by Rachel Sermanni, the words and images, so emotional.

Roaming roots was excellent.

Snap. That's the beauty of it.

One of the main problems with CC is that it's in January; weather's horrible, and money is tight. This year, like you say, you could discover new acts that you wouldn't otherwise have considered.

So many highlights for me:-

Ross Ainslie
Shooglenifty
The Spanish guy with the women on those strange scrapey things:greengrin
The Quebecois night.
The piping night.
James Grant
Jerry Douglas with the Transatlantic Sessions band, thousands of miles apart :greengrin
The Roaming Roots Review (Field Music doing Under Pressure :not worth The guy from Biffy Clyro :not worth)
The closing night.

I've forgotten some....

Pessimistically, I'd be amazed if it's this year. Which is a shame, as I've got tickets for a few rescheduled gigs and there's not a hope they'll be going ahead at this point (April).

I can't even see outdoor gigs occurring before Autumn.

I can’t remember who it was but I read about a gig where the crowd were all in specially made zorb balls that could fit a couple of people and had speakers built in.

It was the Flaming Lips, in their wacky funster way. They've been doing things with zorb balls at gigs for a while anyway, so I suppose it was a natural extension.

Normal, packed indoor live gigs are definitely going to be the last thing to come back. A part of me thinks it'll be a couple of years still until we get to that stage. Hopefully sooner than that, but I can't see any of the gigs I've got tickets for this year (Idles and Fontaines DC in March, Sleaford Mods in November and Black Country, New Road in December) going ahead. Bought more in hope than expectation.

Any idea what they were charging?

I would have thought, to make it work financially, they would need to charge double (?) the normal price.

I'm not a fan of the Lips at all, but I would go and see them (balls or not:greengrin) just to get to a gig. Even a half-decent busker would get my attention....

No idea, just remembered hearing about it on the radio. Given the massive restrictions in the number of folk who could attend I couldn't imagine that it would become anything more than a novelty thing. I would guess it would make a loss.

I have the Rifles booked down in Kendal at the end of July, hoping that’ll go ahead but it’s indoors so I’m not mega confident.

If nothing else it looks like the DMA’s in august and Liam Gallagher the following month at Transmit should be good to go.
