Has anyone seen Tom McGuire and the Brassholes ? He's coming to Gala soon , a couple of people have said he's good

Yes, saw them at the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival last year. I really enjoyed them eve though that's not usually my sort of music (was only there as my wife works for the festival).

I’m going to see Interpol at the Queens Hall in May, no thanks to Ticketmaster. I had presale tickets in my basket yesterday, then when I went to checkout TM decided I needed to reset my password, using a one time code which I’ve still never received. No such trouble when going direct to the Queens Hall website this morning for general sale.

I had that same thing this morning with the Steve Earle CWG tipped us off on! I tried the password thing second time and suddenly got the emails pouring in and working okay.

What I don’t like is the time it takes to actually release the tickets when you get timed out. Still not sure at what point the tickets were lost between me and getting back into the system or someone else picking them up, but thankfully after looking like all floor seats had gone, a couple reappeared from somewhere.

Was wondering about that.

I bought a couple of tickets, which have numbered seats on them, on what is normally the floor. I've been at QH gigs where they have put seats in there, and wondered if that what was happening here. After all, he is on his own this time, with no band... and a "sitty-doon gig" mighr be more appropriate.

I hope not.... I always prefer to stand at gigs. :greengrin

Yeah looks like all-seated to me, that’s what I was assuming anyway. I’ll be quite happy to sit for this one to be fair 😂

After the above post I went onto queens hall website and turns out there are better seats (if that’s what they are) and cheaper than doing by ticket master. TM order duly cancelled and went direct.

Now to see if they refund me nice and quickly, without any arguments, having notified them within the 24 hour cool-off period.

The Usher Hall usually sell tickets direct as well. It’s nice to give a wee bit more money to the venue, and I think because TM are so dominant, folk often don’t think of going to other sources so it can be easier to get tickets from the venue.

Got the email this morning - bizarrely though, I met Ben Gibbard in Edinburgh earlier (which made up for my disappointment) - was in for an event at the EICC and went for a walk at lunchtime - the band were staying at the Sheraton this evening I think and he was out in Festival Square with a couple of other guys.

Tried to see if I could get tickets for Glasgow tomorrow instead but everyone else must have had the same idea as it's now sold out.

Nothing to be done if one of the band are ill - refunds fine, but I do hope they'll reschedule for Scotland soon. Seems like Scotland is getting a lot of 'ill/can't play' cancellations in recent months.

The problem with refunds etc of course are that no booking fees etc will be refunded, because ticket sites are robbing *******s.

Had tickets for CAMEL (Usher Hall) and YES (Glasgow, Newcastle and London). All postponed until next year. Andy Latimer is unwell. YES claiming insurance problems and the possibility of escalating "friction" in some parts of the world.

On a different matter, son and girlfriend were at the Kevin Bridges gig last year when it all kicked off. Complained to the organisers and received 2 free tickets for BLINK 182. Shows it pays to at least try and get some sort of compensation.

Songkick (https://www.songkick.com/) is useful for that – you add artists and locations you're interested in and it notifies you when matching gigs are listed.

It's a bit of work to add all the artists, but it's good once that's done. (You can link it to something like Spotify so that it automatically adds artists that you listen to, but I've found this creates a lot of 'noise' – artists that I might listen to now and then but have no interest in seeing live – so then I have to do the admin of going through and removing them.)

I know there are a few Steve Earle fans on here.

He's just announced the Queens Hall on June 13th. I've just got my tickets, but there don't seem to be many left.

Roseanne Reid, daughter of Craig, is the support for the whole tour.

Given that the boys will have a night off then, in between their Kelso and Leith Links gigs, what's the chances of the 4 of them doing "My Old Friend the Blues" together? :not worth

Madness supported by The Lightning Seeds on sale today and purchased. 1st December at the Hydro.

Anyone got a spare for the Proclaimers Leith Links Saturday?

Going to the see them in Newcastle the following evening with the Missus. Our daughter lives down there, so will tie it in a weekend visit to see her.

As long as the Lightning Seeds don't play Three Lions. They probably won't in Glasgow, but might in Newcastle.

Otoboke Beaver return to Scotland this Friday - a sold out show at St Luke’s and always a frenetic set.

Other May gigs are-

Half Man Half Biscuit at Liquid Rooms - seen them a a few times and never fail to entertain.

House of All at Summerhall. Ex Fall members and new LP is a delight.

Meryl Streek, Irish agitator and politically charged content. Rearranged from earlier in year after his show at McChuills was cancelled at last minute due to a water mains burst and now in Poetry Club at SW3G - Should be good.

Previous gigs so far in ‘23

Mary Wallapers (Galway)
Viagra Boys (Glasgow)
Murder Capital (Glasgow)
Damien Dempsey (Glasgow)
Wavetable (Edinburgh)
Goat (Glasgow)
Panda Bear & Sonic Boom (Glasgow)

Bar Stool Preachers supported by the excellent Guillotines on Friday at Bannerman's.I saw them a few years back at liquid rooms supporting cock sparrer and they were really good. I think the singer is the son of Colin McFaul, the singer from cock sparrer.

My next gig is Ruts DC in Dunfermline next week. Will need to get ticket for amyl and the sniffers in August and I've already got ticket for UK Subs final tour in September.

Sure there's plenty more coming up I'll want to go to.

Went round to the stage door after & waited about 90mins for them to venture out.photos & signatures the singer put asked us if we were going to Glasgow on the Monday, we didn’t have tickets so he put us on the guest list.
After show passes we’re in with the tickets when we picked them up.

When I saw £72 I genuinely thought that it was a typo for £27 and then an SBF to be added on top. I saw them last time around and that will do for me. As a band, both musically and conceptually, they were way ahead of their time, but £72 is a piss take.

On the subject of ticket prices, there are three bands who I would always automatically go and see whenever they tour, that I have decided against seeing this year. Peter Gabriel, Roger Waters and The Who, all far too expensive.

But I'll keep my eyes open for cheaper tickets nearer the time!

That’s a great story. I met them back stage at the Isle of Wight festival a couple of years ago. They were incredibly friendly and seemed to genuinely enjoy chatting to us. Very under rated band too. Their recent output has been excellent. Was gutted I had to sell my Usher Hall tickets.

Yes, the band split into two BJHs in 1998, one fronted by John Lees, and the other by Les Holroyd. They are the only original BJH members left alive. Both bands continue to tour, although this tour was billed as John Lees' final tour, he is 76 years old. Good gig, RNCM is a very nice venue.

That’s brilliant! I know a couple of folk who are huge Pink fans and it sounds like she always puts on an amazing show. Hope you have a superb time.

Thank you. I believe the shows are spectacular. Really looking forward to it.

I'm going to see Pink in Sunderland on Saturday. It's a bit of an event for us as I was supposed to see her in June 2019 but was in hospital having surgery for bowel cancer. I was gutted and thought it was probably my last chance to see her. 4 years later I am currently healthy and finally getting to see her. It marks a big win for me and my pals who had to go without me last time.

Magic, enjoy the gig!

I assume they are big Kurt Vonnegut fans?

Lead singer is a massive horror fan, and their entire back catalogue are references or nods to horror stories, so quite possibly?

Edit: Taken from the Wiki entry on Cat's Cradle:

The metalcore band Ice Nine Kills took their name from the eponymous substance ice-9 and are fans of Vonnegut's work.

Im going to watch Secret Affair at the sheffield Leadmill in October. A mod revival band from the earlyish 80s. From memory "time for action" was their biggest hit. They are playing the voodoo lounge on tge same tour as well as the Cavern Vlub in Liverpool. Some interesting venues.

My World was a far better song imo but think Time for Action pipped it by a few places chart position wise.

Anyone seen the videos of the Arctic Monkeys homecoming gigs? Might just be bad videos, but the crowd are awful!

They opened with A Certain Romance and there's folk just standing talking during it. Crazy!

Arctic Moneys and Milburn was my first ever gig back in 2005, on the back of just a few downloaded songs and before the album. Place was absolutely rocking. To see that the other night shocked me a bit.

I was there. Not sure where the videos were taken that you’ve seen but I was in the front pit and it was class. Admittedly, during a couple of songs from Tranquility and The Car, the crowd lost interest (ignorance if you ask me), but on the whole, they had us eating out of the palm of their hands. Generally do feel outdoor gigs do lose the atmosphere of indoors gigs.

Sam Fender in Newcastle on Saturday was incredible for atmosphere. Then he brought out Brian Johnson from AC/DC. Incredible.

I was a peeved when I missed out on tickets for Big Countrys anniversary gig in Gala in September ( mostly down to the fact I kept forgetting to purchase one ) , so I was delighted when they announced an extra gig due to the demand for tickets, straight on the website and bought one , really happy . I've got Skids tomorrow night , then The Silencers next week and Sleeper in September it's a bit like stepping back in time

I was in Manchester for their 2nd night there at Old Trafford. It was brilliant and the crowd were buzzing.

The Hives are a brilliant support act IMO and Arctic Monkeys are just a well oiled machine at this point. No real interaction with the audience but don't think anyone expects that. The screens are cool AF and new material like Body Paint sits well along side the classics. And they're mixing up the sets with a few changes most nights.

Tempted to go to Bellahouston aswell tbh.

I see Doune The Rabbit Hole are blaming the BECTU Union for the festival’s cancellation. I remember when they had issues last year there didn’t seem to be much responsibility taken by the organisers either. It seemed like a cool festival, but sounds like it hasn’t been run well. I don’t know how they could expect people to work at this year’s event when folk were still waiting to be paid for last year.

Sylar
22-06-2023, 08:27 AM
That'll be a death sentence for Doune if they're not offering refunds - I'm quite amazed they're allowed to get away with that.

What do we actually have in the way of music festivals left in Scotland? Is it just TRNSMT (which I wouldn't go near) and Belladrum?

Wish we'd get a proper heavy rock festival back in Scotland - fed up having to make my way to Leeds or Derbyshire each year!

AIUI, they paid the bigger acts up-front this year, in order to secure them and attract punters.

So it looks as if there's no money left.

Just read the statement on their website, thanks for giving us your money but we had to pay our bills and now we’re cancelling and you can’t have it back. It’s not our fault it’s the union who wanted us to pay our bills.

No responsibility on their part at all.

"They" were a different company last year, hence the legal cop-out.

This from a friend of mine.....

We had a friend who ran kids workshops for 8 hrs straight for three days. Pre Covid festival and she wasn’t paid.

They went back to her last year and said it would be different this time. So she did three 8hr days and was never paid.

Their marketing guy came onto me - I described their brand as toxic to the creative and technical communities.

He insisted that it would be different this year

Never been a huge fan of them bar a couple of songs but the Artic Monkeys have turned into a **** Neil Diamond tribute act you would see in a working man's club

When you do something like Glasto then folk only want to hear a greatest hits collection, your own tour is when you play all the other stuff

Agreed. I don’t follow them that closely, so maybe it’s the way he sings now, but almost seems like he’s applying that slightly posher altered voice on the newer different stuff to the whole performance. Also finding him a bit weird. Anyway, each to their own.
