Yourself, Harold?
Lol - I've absolutely no idea. For starters though, my wife, both my kids, I became an American citizen in 2007, almost all of my neighbors and to cap it all I'm surrounded by them because I live in Texas. :faf::faf:

Okay guys, how do we tap into the new interest in women’s football and boost attendance at the domestic Scottish game?
The SWPL doesn’t start again until August and Hibs Ladies first game is away to Glasgow City before a trip to Slovenia for the Champions League.
I’ve said it before on this forum, but it’s a great way to introduce young children, especially girls to football. The players all take time to speak with fans and do selfies.
Or whatever youngsters are doing these days 😄

I had an interesting chat with some Team USA fans in France just after Hope Solo’s savaging of Shelley Kerr. They were not impressed.
An attention seeker, obnoxious and not held in high regard by anyone involved in women’s football over there. Those were just the good things [emoji23]
A stick on for a job with the BBC then.she was spot on with what she said about kerr in the tournament.

Great to see that the BRITISH Broadcasting Corporation is leading the main evening news programme with England women’s football failure.
Meanwhile,..................
Seems fair enough to me. I've no doubt they'd do the same if it was ever Scotland on an equivalent news night. All we have to do is be a lot better to have a chance to find out.

I don't get the word failure in this instance. The girls did great and advanced the women's game hugely.
Apart from the VAR carry-on it's been the sporting revelation of the year.

A good question!
Woman's football was on the up before this tournament I felt, I enjoyed watching the odd Hibs game on TV etc, but I think it's been put under the spot light very well over summer. Helped greatly by Scotland being there and England progressing as far as they did, keeping attention on the game.
As for how we grow the Scottish game and Hibs ladies team...
I think a look at the way the team is ran. They should of course have a strong link with the club generally but I wonder if they have a chance to do their own thing commercially; sponsorship etc. They might be in a fairly attractive position for it as there's not the same baggage as around the mens team, they win a lot of trophies, and at the moment are the only real force in Edinburgh.
I wonder if the odd game would benefit from being played at Easter road on a Saturday at 1pm before the men's game. Free entry for ST holders, or a cheap bolt on option. They could make an afternoon out of it with plenty activities between games for the kids and maybe even some different/reasonable food options.
Not sure how well the pitch would hold up to 2 consecutive games or if it would be too long a day to keep kids, and adults alike, interested in the football.
Or they find an American billionaire to take them over. :greengrin

They've been a key part in moving the women's game forward and I think there will be benefits across the UK. Qualifying for the Olympics also.
I don't get the hatred towards Neville's comments as arrogance either really. I know she isn't the manager and so not as accountable but Hope Solo was pretty much the US team's ambassador as far as my viewing was concerned and she came out with the same/worse.
She asked about the knowledge US would have of England's key players and - paraphrasing a little - said "we only care about Americans, we expect to win the tournament and not bringing the trophy home would be unthinkable failure".

I realise you are playing devils advocate here but, be honest, it’s far more rife when it’s womens football, or indeed any sport or any walk of life for that matter.

I think we need to be clear about what we mean by sexism. Saying a female player is attractive isn't sexist; saying a woman is less capable/valuable than a man, is. Same goes the other way: there is nothing sexist in a female fan saying a male player is attractive.

He was just starting to bore me with his post-match stuff when they got knocked out. Good timing.
He was very quick and strong in his condemnation of Cameroon's conduct and challenges (which were admittedly both very poor at times) but moaned that his player shouldn't have been sent-off last night because her first wasn't a booking... her challenge was arguably worse than anything in the Cameroon game and deserving of a straight red.
What did he mean by the ref not having control!? It's not like the US were rampaging around flying into tackles?
I prefer his brother's analysis.

Other people have already answered this and they’re right - what is the world coming to when you can’t say someone is attractive regardless of what they do for a living.
Sexism and racism are being found these days where it doesn’t exist.

It’s not sexist to say you don’t like women’s footie IMO and people shouldn’t be made to feel that way.

If it's a broad generalisation i.e. 'women can never be as good as men for no other reason than they are women', then yes, I think that's sexist. Saying a specific player isn't good, whilst providing evidence, is not.

I accept both your points, H&A’s one in particular is very well put.
However, it’s when the use of words (used last night) like ‘fitty’ and ‘stoater’ are shoehorned into a thread on women’s football that it becomes, shall we say, a bit risqué.
I’ll probably get shot down for this but, it’s my opinion and one I am entitled to.

Damn, when I think about some of the things I have heard our female supporters say about some players. Makes the above look tame (which in fairness 'fitty' is). But Iv never thought of it as sexist. Its perfectly normal to find the opposite sex attractive. NOTE: Not for everyone!! (before that offends someone).

I think you have a point. The focus being on their looks gives the implication of them being "less valuable" based on the fact that their obvious talent is being overlooked.
They're playing in the semi-final of the World Cup and the focus for many seems to be on appearances. The same might happen for men's football, however it's more often an afterthought. How many of our many female posters do you see drooling over players in update threads? Conversely, I'm pretty sure the conversation always heads in this direction whenever there's a thread about the women's game.
I don't think people are being intentionally offensive though.

It's probably his time under fergie. There is a fine line between being too arrogant and setting goals. The USA seem very arrogant but have the cups to justify it. I'd try and win something first before going down the arrogant route. As stubbsy said before the famous day it was the belief that we were going to win that carried us through. I'm not sure the English team had that. I'm sure they will in time.

I've never heard her an insightful comment from her any time I've watched. She's like an excitable school-kid who quickly rattles off clichés and nothing statements but often seems to get lost mid sentence. The fact she's learned a few modern coaching terms (that men would be ridiculed for using) and does a bit of video analysis that basically anyone could do doesn't make her a great pundit. Not quite sure why folk think she's so knowledgeable… she doesnt seem to know a lot about other non England female players in the World Cup.
She seems to be the poster girl of female punditry though. I wonder if the fact she's attractive and bubbly is what makes her so seemingly popular? That would be ironic eh?

Fair enough, perhaps you have seen more of her during the tournament, but, from what I've seen, she's been good. Last night, for example, she didn't hold back on England's defending and analysed their deficiencies well. From what I've seen of her, nothing she has said has made me think her clueless. There are some horrific male pundits- many been mentioned already. People should feel free to comment about any pundits abilities and not feel restricted because they're going to be accused of something. Again- if a woman said she hated Andy Walker's punditry I doubt she'd have to worry about being accused of sexism.
Criticising a hopeless female pundit in the same way you'd criticise a male one is actually showing you're judging them equally which is supposedly what we all want. Not so sure if England can give them a game then Holland can. Dutch have goalscorers in their team and also their centre backs and goalie are good.
Both Lavelle and Heath seemed to go off injured for US in the semi so possible doubts for final.
Think Dutch might represent some value on Sunday IMO.

England pretty useless again today by the sounds of things. Probably lucky with the draw to make the semis, as soon as they faced any of the better teams they were shown up pretty quickly.
Glad that the tournament is almost over, the overall standard of a lot of the teams was poor and it was tough watching at times. The officiating was terrible as well. To be fair though there were six or seven genuinely good teams in there, but they got lost a bit with so many sub-standard sides dragging the whole thing down - unfortunately I'd have to include Scotland in that.
There's talk of expanding the tournament to 32 teams but the best thing they could do is cut it to 16 until there are enough teams of a decent standard to make up the numbers.

Really poor stuff from the England camp after the game too - sour grapes everywhere. Neville calling the third place game a nonsense fixture and Carney saying she was glad England lost. I'm sure they'd have been consistent with those views if they'd won the game...
It was all happy clappy when they were winning but they've shown their true colours in the last week - they've let themselves down badly.

Here’s their training camp, press conference, talking head interviews, nonsense barely related articles about celebrities wishing the lionesses (laughable nickname btw) well etc

This is by no means meant as a criticism as I have really enjoyed watching this world cup.
Why is it that almost no players seem to be capable of beating a player 1 on 1, everyone seems to cut back on themselves far too often when in good positions.
Feels like an opportunity for a team/player to flourish going forward if they could add this to the wide areas.

Lucy Bronze is a right back. she just won the champions league for the second year with Lyon and is a star in their team. she also just won the second best player at the world cup, the top ranked right back.
she is the best right back in the world. so arse or not, he was correct.
what i would say - Neville made comments after the group stage saying VAR was excellent and that the standard of refereeing was good and that there had been no bad decisions. at the time I though "what an arse". it was basically a big up you to Scotland.
since then he's cried about Cameroon, spat the dummy with USA and then his comments pre 3rd place game about his bronze medal looking gold in certain light were crass. then when they lost he pretended he didn't care. He's shown himself up as the clown he is.
the facts are that they finished 4th which is worse than last time round. they are much better than they showed, arguably in any game and it was always coming down to if they could pip the USA or not. Neville failed to get the best out a very talented squad and his tinkering and failure to utilise very good players like Georgia stanway and Leah Williamson instead preferring his misfiring favourites left England lacking.
despite his bluster he's shown himself up as a failure.

Fair play to them they had a good tournament. It's just petty to try and pick holes in England's World Cup experience this summer whether as players, commentators or their crowds at home. We come across as chippy and bitter when we do that in the men's and women's football.
