My take on that one is the opposite. The Gibraltarians are another country that have got what they voted for. 99% voted remain, this allows them to de facto remain.

If a few Brits going there on holiday so be it.

Genuine question, how does the 90 days in the Schengen without a visa work if I go to Gibraltar?

J

i haven't a Scooby j sorry, my Q was really more to do with the Spanish press thinking britain has lost or losing control of Gib

From an unbiased perspective, I'd suggest that people going from Spain to Gibraltar need more than their passports checked. It's like a step back to 1970s Britain.

Bristol protest: Police attacked as 'Kill the Bill' demo turns violent - BBC News (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-56477887)

Protesters have attacked police after thousands of people turned up to a demonstration officers had "strongly advised" against attending.

Officers suffered broken bones and police vans were set alight as angry scenes unfolded in Bristol city centre.

Crowds had gathered for the Kill the Bill demonstration in opposition to the Police and Crime Bill (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-56400751).

It’s still quite sad to see. And to see the Labour Party demand the resignation of NS while giving the govt in England a free pass is a disgrace. There is a real anti-Scottish theme developing.

Lies and misdirection works with a majority in England but their PR machines aren't nimble enough to take into account the mind-set of a good chunk of the Scottish population, which have a different set of critical faculties. Looking in on how it works in England is sad. When I was a nipper English culture was rammed with people who were informative, entertaining and didn't take any bull from the "ruling" classes, these days a banal rush to to be seen as conforming rules the roost.

The full list of Tory MPs on a ‘dirty dossier’ of claims about their supposed sex lives has been published in the US.
The spreadsheet, which includes six serving Cabinet ministers, has been partially published in the UK over the past few days.
However this evening the entire document, which also contains details of people's relationships where no impropriety is thought to have taken place, was published in the US.

When it came to Westminster Tony Blair was an obsessive hoarder of power away from actual MPs and into small rooms, but he did legislate for English devolution. I worked on the referendum in the north east about 20 years ago, regional polling wasn’t great then but there was a expectation that the independent minded Geordies would be first to vote for a split from London, it would have passed a fair bit of decision making power to NGOs and local authorities but No won quite easily. Although ‘city mayors’ remained as a sort of wet fart of the devolution project going forward, it was a failure, voters were persuaded that they just didn’t want another layer of politicians.

You read in places like Bella Caledonia that the English are ripe for to break away from London but I’m still a bit sceptical to be honest.

I listened to it live and to me it sounded like he got caught between Dross's name and the constituency. Unison are putting it to a vote. Interesting points made by the union.

Willie Duffy, UNISON Scotland Head of Health said: “After weeks of negotiations we have now received a serious offer for a deal backdated to the 1 December 2020 from the Scottish government. This is a final offer as a result of the forthcoming election. Tomorrow (Friday 26 March) UNISON Scotland Health Committee will agree how we consult UNISON members.
This past year has highlighted the dedication, skill and sacrifices that all NHS staff make. Their contribution must be recognised in their pay packets. It was simply not good enough to push negotiations to the summer and blame the UK Government for the delay so we are pleased to have made significant progress in these pay talks. However, the final decision on whether to accept this offer lies with UNISON members and we look forward to consulting them in the coming weeks.”

I agree, constituents aren't getting a good deal if their elected representative is splitting their time over multiple roles. I thought the rules had changed and that's why J.Cherry couldn't stand as an MSP? Obvs I misunderstood, what was the reason she was not allowed to carry out both roles?

I agree, constituents aren't getting a good deal if their elected representative is splitting their time over multiple roles. I thought the rules had changed and that's why J.Cherry couldn't stand as an MSP? Obvs I misunderstood, what was the reason she was not allowed to carry out both roles?

The SNP has changed its policy to not allow dual MP/MSPs. The controversy over JC was she wasn't allowed to stand for Holyrood and resign from WM if she won, she would have been forced to resign her WM seat up front. But that rule is all internal to the SNP and the Cherry/Salmondites alleged it was introduced solely to spike her guns.

Aah understood, thanks for explaining. I agree with that policy. Should apply to all Party's. Take it, it was introduced recently if some were forming this conclusion?

MPs demand probe into Boris Johnson 'breach of ministerial code' over Covid contracts - Mirror Online (https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/mps-demand-probe-boris-johnson-23789665)

It comes after the Prime Minister was asked about unpublished Covid-19 contracts in the House of Commons, to which he replied: "All the details are on the record”.
Asked a second time during the same debate, Mr Johnson repeated the claim, saying: "The contracts are there on the record for everybody to see.”
This was untrue. The PM has yet to correct the record.
A letter sent to the Good Law project by Government lawyers on February 25 - after the PM claimed the contracts had been published - confirmed around 100 contracts had not been published at the time.

Looks like it’s been a stroke of luck for her anyway as she wouldn’t have been able to campaign anyway if she is poorly.

Something to think about I guess.

I have no problem with list MSP’s. They are no less MSP’s than constituency ones. It’s just because we are so used to first past the post that people seem to think of them as second class.

I'm with you. We should remember that list members have a much larger area to represent. That can mean that they are just as busy as the constituency reps. Margo, for one, was one of the busiest members in the Parliament.

I have no problem with List MSPs either but as a leader of one of the main parties I would expect them to stand in a FPTP seat and put themselves number one on the list. I presume the Tories will contest plenty of constituencies it seems crazy that their leader won't commit to fighting any of them. Patrick Harvie stood in Glasgow Kelvin at the last election so has put put his money where his mouth is although it took a few years. That is expected as the Greens are still a very small party and needed time to establish themselves. The Tories don't have that excuse. Ross isn't exactly exuding Leadership by failing to stand in a FPTP imo

I was in the cadet forces when I was wee, I think they're a great idea. I can't recall even a mention of politics when I was with them.

Two points though; I wasn't aware of any cadet forces attached to public schools. Any that were attached it was all private schools and, the funds were allocated from the military budget although money was also raised from the cadets [parents].

Of course things could have changed in the last 45 years lol.

The Tory machine either doesn't see it or genuinely doesn't have anyone more credible and or electable available.

Suspect they are about to see it at the ballot box.

April 1993, Johnson’s first marriage annulled

2009, Johnson now fathers an extramarital daughter with arts consultant Helen Macintyre.

2012, still married and with four children to Marina Wheeler, a miscarriage and abortion for Perronella Wyatt, an extramarital daughter with Helen Macintyre, and an extramarital affair with Anna Fazackerley, Johnson now begins a 4-year sexual relationship with Jennifer Arcuri

2013, Court of Appeal discharges an injunction which had been brought by Johnson to ban the reporting of the very existence of his daughter with Macintyre, with the judge stating that the public had a right to know about Johnson’s “reckless” behaviour.

2016, 4-year sexual relationship with Jennifer Arcuri ends. Johnson now being investigated for handing her large amounts of taxpayer’s money, lucrative contracts and taking her on paid official trips.

2018, still somehow married to Marina Wheeler, Johnson begins an affair with Carrie Symonds.

September 2018, confirmation by Johnson and Marina Wheeler of separation in July 2018, after 25 years of marriage and four children together. Although it’s reported his children no longer wish to speak to him.

2019, Johnson and Symonds move in together. Police get called to their flat by neighbours upon hearing screams.

August 2019, Johnson’s wife, Marina Wheeler, confirmed she’s in remission after she’d been ‘distracted from getting check-ups’ and had, since being diagnosed with cervical cancer in early 2019, undergone two surgical operations.

Late 2019, Johnson and Symonds get engaged.

12th December 2019, Johnson elected with a majority. Johnson and Symonds move into 10 Downing Street.

February 2020, financial settlement reached between Johnson and Wheeler.

29th April 2020, Carrie Symonds gives birth to Wilfred.

November 2020, Johnson and Marina Wheeler’s divorce is finalised.

March 2021, American Jennifer Arcuri confirms to the media that her sexual affair with Johnson ran from 2012 to 2016.

Where is this Nature Bill. I can't see it anywhere. Much as I hate the Tories to my core it would be great that Parties now know that being Green is good for votes in Scotland. That means the Scottish people have no doubt about how important it is. The issue with anything the Tories say is credibility. They are born liars and manipulators so difficult to believe this is anything other than trying to win a few votes knowing they will not need to do anything.

The Rangers saying it was Chelsea fans fault springs to mind. What a brass neck she has. Westminster looks like it has turned its back on peace, probably not enough money in it for them. The future for Ireland looks like the past unfortunately. Hopefully enough can see that a future in Europe makes far more sense than a future in a Union that has no interest in them.

A long-time acquaintance of Boris Johnson once said that anyone who puts their trust in him will be betrayed. The DUP have now discovered the truth of that.

As pointed out by both John Major and Tony Blair, once the decision to leave the Customs Union was made there had to be a customs border, with all the attendant checks, either in the Irish sea or on the island of Ireland. The UK negotiators decided to effectively hand Northern Ireland over to the EU.
