Just watched the pre-fight press conference and Sauerland mentioned that 4500 tickets had been sold and he expected a crowd of 6000. Surprised sales are that low to be honest.

Can’t think of many boxing events in Scotland that have pulled in more than 6000 punters. Ricky Burns possibly, but he was already a double world champion by the time he was fighting at the Hydro.

Fair comment, recent times anyway. The halcyon days of Benn, Eubank and Naz fighting to full houses at the SECC were different. I think the lack of TV coverage for this one has definitely hindered ticket sales. If it had been on Sky with weeks of build up on SSN it would’ve been a near full house.

That’s it mate. Feel sorry for Josh, if he was signed to Matchroom he would be a household name by now.
It’s a shame Sky only push fighters who are signed with Hearn. Taylor is one of the best fighters to come out the UK in decades.

Also looking forward to Bellew v Usyk. Should be a Usyk win but you just can’t rule out Bellew.
Still torn about what to do this weekend regarding GGG V Canelo. Talk is they’ll be at the ring for 4am. Bit early to set the alarm for but I’ll see.

Did you and your boy make it to the Taylor fight Callum? twas a more muted atmosphere than I expected, unsure if it was the venue itself or the early stoppage of the Burnett fight that contributed to that. Possibly both.
Either way, Josh is the boy. Easily in the top 5 British pound for pound rankings right now - he will take some stopping.

Hey! Yes we made it. Got in for 7pm straight from ER - saw 4 fights. Thought the atmosphere was decent without being crackling - my son loved it tho. JT was superb. Punch perfect I thought. Sore one for Burnett tho.

I thought it was a bit muted also. First fight at the Hydro, great set up for viewing, we had front row of the balcony. Similar sized crowds at the SECC produced a far better atmosphere though. I think the production also hampered the atmosphere. Too WWF for my liking and why did they leave the up lights on for the two feature bouts? My lad loved it though and can’t wait to go again.
On the fights, was gutted the Burnett fight ended so soon and under those circumstances. It was shaping up to be a cracking bout. JT was outstanding, a master class.

Who is it that promotes Taylor? I’m surprised that fight wasn’t on Sky.
Tony Bellew tonight. I’ve got a soft spot for him, Intipped Jim to beat Haye when he was the underdog but I think this is a fight too much.
From what I hear his opponent is something else. Say what you like about Tony but his heart is almost as big as his mouth.

Taylor is promoted by Cyclone who have a broadcast deal with Channel 5. The WBSS is a seperate competition though and they negotiate their own TV deal - I don’t think they got a suitable offer from a UK broadcaster this series so put the fight free to view on YouTube.
If Taylor was with Sky / Matchroom he would be a household name by now, although probably wouldn’t have been matched as aggressively.
Usyk will be too good for Bellew tonight, I give him a punchers chance but not much more. The Ukrainian is a serious operator & a legitimate threat to Joshua when he moves up to Heavyweight.

Fury is under Wilders skin. He lost the plot there and you could see him getting more irate as the questions wore on; I think he realised there was truth in a lot of what Fury said.
I daresay they will do the respectful handshake and bumming each other up post fight but there's a bit edge there. I'm still saying Fury by a decent points margin.

I see Fury getting knocked out . He's making out like he's impossible to hit , he's deluding himself . Wilder is fast , powerful and has long arms , poor technique or not he's going to catch fury with that sledgehammer right hand at some point

I think Joshua v Fury is a far more intriguing contest. Less exciting and explosive maybe but if I had to choose I'd pick that over Joshua v Wilder.
I agree Wilder will probably find the target at some point. The couple of times Fury has been in trouble it's been with an overhand right which is Wilders big weapon. Equally though Fury is evasive, he's very nimble for a huge guy, he's fast and he's so unorthodox he's hard to read, Wilder might only get 1 or 2 chances and if Fury deals with that I think he'll win. It's worth remembering Fury was so adept at negating Klitshckos jab and thus his follow up right hand that many people questioned whether he was carrying an injury; Klitshcko himself said that wasn't the case and that Fury just never allowed him to set anything up.
Fury isn't particularly exciting to watch but he's been massively underrated for years now, including by me. His boxing skills are superior and that will play a huge part in the outcome of this fight.

Fury's comeback has been far from exciting, in fact i'd say he's been pretty poor against quite awful opponents.
I have watched both fights, and he looked poor and unfit, which was hardly surprising given his time out and the weight loss.
I see a Wilder win , maybe a knock out after 8 rounds but definitely by points at least. In my opinion the rustiness and quick weight loss will take its toll, and he will tire quickly.
I would like Fury to win, he's certainly a character and can sell a fight. :greengrin

Do you think so? I thought he looked in great shape. He was a bit heavier than he’s been in the past, but I think it’s significant that wilder weighed in so light. He claimed he was ill the last time, but he can’t make that claim this time. Wilder for me is a talking horse, that will be found out against proper world class boxing.

Very odd decision.
Sky had my cash out at 80% going into last round so they know who was well ahead. I didn't cash out as I couldn't see any other result that a fury win.

What a fight. It had everything and the heavyweight division looks what it should be again; exciting and with real talent at the top.
If Fury keeps in shape and is able to prepare for the rematch with less emphasis on cutting weight I'd fancy him to get the job done. 2 years out the ring, a couple of tune ups and he put in a performance worthy of a championship fight. Credit to Wilder too, he dug in and played to his strengths. When he got the shots off he looked dangerous.
Last night probably made uncomfortable viewing for Joshua and Hearn. He can't dodge the winner of the rematch and I think both are really tough fights for him, particularly Fury.

Have to agree , Fury and Wilder both looked tough as nails . Fury proved he's still got slick skill and Wilder proved he carries KO power right into the last seconds . AJ has to fight them both or his reputation will take a beating

Think Hearn would prefer Fury because even if AJ loses Hear will have had his mega fight at Wembley and banked millions.
However, you're right, AJ needs to fight both, there's no one else really, he can't hide forever.

Very unfair on AJ in my opinion giving it the “cant run forever”, “dodging them” etc. He’s only had 22 professional fights and was a late starter regarding boxing. Fury has not been around for 2 years and before AJ fought Povetkin (a mandatory) he was fighting. Parker to unify the belts. I don’t blame him for taking a few more fights.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I didn't mean he had dodged them previously. I mean he is now put in a position he has to fight at least one of them. If he doesn't it's got shades of Bowe and Lewis and that has hung over Bowes legacy ever since.
I said previously the way Joshua showed discipline v Parker sould have worried Wilder, equally I think what both fighters showed last night will concern Joshua. Of course he won't say that publicly but that doesn't mean anything.
David_D

I think Joshua would rather fight Wilder. Wilder got hit so many times last night. If it had been Joshua hitting him I think it would have been over. On other hand though I don’t think Joshua (or any other heavyweight) bar Fury would have gotten up from that 12th round knockdown.

I'd like to see AJ V Wilder in April on the basis that Fury gets winner for all the belts, a draw might have negated a rematch and Wilder might not fancy it just now imo

Very odd decision.
Sky had my cash out at 80% going into last round so they know who was well ahead. I didn't cash out as I couldn't see any other result that a fury win.

I very much doubt anyone would want to fight Fury. He has the skills to make fighters look slow and cumbersome.

Fury's journey back over the last 2 years is a inspiration to folk, he stuck to his plan last night, his constant bobbing about is very strange but works so good for him, up until the last round he was cruising the fight, he never once looked tired unlike Wilder who went through a few rounds where he looked knackered, but give him credit he went for it in the last round and put Tyson on the canvas, it looked like the second punch as Tyson was going down had knocked him out and Wilder thought the same, how Tyson got back up I don't know but when he did his legs weren't wobbly and he looked fresh as a daisy and ready to go again, the rematch will be just as good no doubt.
Don't know why but I think Joshua would rather fight Tyson rather than Wilder.

Yip he was superb, i never for one moment thought he'd be able to last the distance on the basis of his last two fights.
He looked a pale shadow in those fights, and i thought he would gas out and probably get knocked out later in the fight.
He did the opposite, and looked very fresh all fight, and obviously the knock downs could have made the result different, but he managed to get up and still take the fight to Wilder. :top marks

I highly doubt that. Khan, by most part starts well before fading mid to late rounds. Crawford also historically a slow starter. Terence will make adjustments early doors and put the pain on him the rest of the fight before a late, brutal stoppage. That’s my shout anyway.

Exactly, Brooks career is fading pretty quickly due to the recurring eye injury v Golovkin so he’s desperate for a big money fight v Khan and will wait however long it takes for it. Khan knows this and is quite rightly trying one last time to get a belt, which I highly doubt he will tbh.

Khan still has the fastest hands I've seen on a boxer but if Vargas can put him on his arse in the 2nd then I hate to think what Crawford who is probably in the p4p top 3 can do to him, he will need to be on his game like he was against Canelo before he got caught, great skills and speed but glass jaw, I just think Crawford is far too spiteful and will hurt him early

I’m a big Crawford fan. He is the complete fighter in my eyes. Khan has had a few sore KO’s but will be no push over, I can see him coming into
this fight fully focused from the first bell.
Great fight for Crawford too btw. He’s been struggling to tie down the big fights, & if he puts a clinic on Khan his global profile will increase massively.

Hearn has Wembley booked, doesn't mean it has to be Joshua, he seems keen on making Joshua V Miller in New York that day too, hope this isn't true as if anyone in the heavyweight division deserves a title shot then it's Whyte, he may be limited but he's done everything asked of him and shown real improvement since the last Joshua fight

Spence Jr v Garcia tonight. Absolutely buzzing.
Two of the best p4p around going at it, though will be a tall order for Garcia. Free on ITV4 for the fellow night crawlers out there.
Hoping that Garcia can do it :take that

Had him by one or two but having them that wide is a farce, Okolie must be the worst boxer to watch ever, let's have a cuddling contest

Gets hit far too often to make an impact at World Level. Josh Taylor would do him some serious damage.

Is his opponent confirmed? Last I read Baranchyk said he was 100% out of the tournament regardless of what the contracts said.

I was going to get tickets but I'm convinced the lad is going to pull out.
Just had a look and Ticketmaster cant be that confident as instead of naming it Taylor V Branczyk (sp?) its just called World super six boxing or something so my search for Josh Taylor returned zero results!

It would never have been billed as Taylor V Baranchyk on Ticketmaster. It’s a WBSS show and that would always be the billing.

Was a great fight that Fitzgerald won by a couple, goes to show you can run you mouth off all you want but if you can't back it up, JT is by far the best of the current crop but gets nowhere near the praise he's due

Only just nabbed it by split decision too, with the knockdown being the difference. Really enjoyed the fight.

I thought it was a wee bit wider than that, Sky and Matchroom hype folk up, which granted is their job but there is is a real difference when you step up

Makes sense though I suppose with monster Inoue on the card

Ivan Baranchyk’s manager David McWater has stated that they could now RE-JOIN the WBSS and face Josh Taylor next. McWater confirmed the IBF are threatening to strip Baranchyk and so he has a conference call scheduled with them and the WBSS organisers tomorrow. [

I really like Crolla, he's as great guy but Lomachenko is the greatest boxer I've ever seen, sounds mad as he's only had 14 professional fights but the guy is simply amazing and does things I've never seen before, think he's found his weight though and he shouldn't move up to 140 although I'd love to see him against Taylor

Can’t see him ever going up to 140, unfortunately.
Still plenty big fights for him at Lightweight, I fancy him to collect all belts there soon enough. One fighter who I think will cause him problems is Luke Campbell (trained by Shane Mcguigan like Josh) - brilliant fighter who’s really tall and rangy for the weight.
Hoping he gets in with Mikey Garcia next as he’s another who has the pedigree to cause him issues.

Would be a good fight with Campbell, he's got amazing speed and did well against Linares, but I think Loma is pretty much untouchable, Garcia would be his biggest test I think

Khan needs saving from himself now.
Down in the 1st and every time Crawford really connects he's like bambi on ice. Crawford was head hunting a bit early doors after the knockdown but when he goes to the body and gets Khan to lower his hands he's landing at will. Khan looks noticeably slower than previously as well.

Khan's corner asked for it to be stopped before he had taken the full 5 minutes allowed after an accidental low blow so it's a TKO for Crawford.
American commentary did say Virgil Hunter had looked desperate to stop it for at least a couple of rounds beforehand.

Khan quit to save himself from a brutal KO and live to fight another day IMO, he'll get another big payday against Brook if he's looking to cash out or maybe another few fights against fringe world level guys but he's likely finished at the elite level and probably has been for a while.
