Certainly is, although I love all Loma I think he needs to stop at 135, as well as he performed against Linares who I also really rate, the size different was starting to show, 140 might be a step too far even for him, I think he might go Beltran next then Garcia

Cracking fight that, thought Selby was beatable after watching his last few. Warrington deserves all the credit even taking away the two accidental cuts he was superb. His jab against the longer reach of Selby’s in particular. Great hand speed & a worthy champ.

Pretty low key stuff but I didn't expect much else. It was a fight to get back in the ring and get the initial hype out the way.
Fury has never really been about 'looking good'. He's all about tidy footwork, ringcraft and a boxing brain rather than the big flashy shots that earn headlines. It's hard to really take anything from last night but in my mind the Fury that totally baffled Kiltschko is a dangerous fight for Joshua and Wilder; whether he is still that fighter is the real question.

If anyone bought a ticket expecting anything else, more fool them.
As for the scrap in the crowd, you saw that coming as soon as the first bell sounded. Why were folk in the front row of ringside standing? Sit down ya clowns. Folk pay big money for floor seats and if everyone stand, most can’t see.

How are we seeing the Whyte v Parker fight on Saturday? Whyte wins for me, but hopefully it’s a good fight.
On the undercard I’m really surprised to see Benn taking on the rematch with Peynaud. What has got to gain by fighting him again. These intercontinental belts or whatever it is they’re fighting for are meaningless really.

Parker being talked up over here (not surprising) as having found a 'mean streak' and best training camp ever etc. The usual stuff I suppose, but he'll have learned a lot from the Joshua fight and I think we'll see a slightly different approach here.
The guy has basically never even been in trouble in the ring, so he'll be no easy beat. I think Parker wins.

From watching the build up I really think that Whyte has got under his skin and he might fight a fight that he doesn’t really want to fight. Whyte has been really disrespectful to Parker, calling him a coward for the way he fought AJ. It’s a tough one to call as Parker is clearly a durable fighter and Whyte is more of a slug fest type of fighter. I suspect Parker is going to try and go toe to toe with Whyte which is why I fancy Whyte to win it.

I think you might be surprised at Parker's ability to go toe-to-toe. We haven't seen much of it over the last 2 years or so as the quality of his opponents has increased, so he's had less chances to really get into a brawl, but if Whyte wants to do that, I see it suiting Parker. Not saying that doesn't suit Whyte either though, as I can see that's the kind of fight he also likes!
Despite Parker's tactics against Joshua, that's not really what he's been all about in the earlier days of his career when he was knocking out everyone he faced.

I have met Derek several times as he frequents a local gastro-pub in Totteridge where we both live. He's a man-mountain of a man, yet he's as soft as nails.
I could have went tonight - I could also have watched it in the presence of Finchley Boxing Club who have taken over my local boozer for the evening. I planned to watch it in my local, but there were a number of meat-heads in their party and I left after the opening fight on the undercard.
Chisora has looked after his £££ well and lives in a wonderful abode that is worth upwards of £5M - fair play to whatever he does next.

Easy to say it was worth it after the event though, I looked at it and decided not to pay as I thought it was a rip off for the bill. Sure plenty of other folk did too. The PFV events are becoming ridiculously too common, especially considering the amounts we already pay for SKY etc which was one of the reasons boxing fans subscribed to SKY before the rip off started.

some numpties don't know when there being burnt .
It was $50 in New Zealand, which is about 26 quid at current rates - what was it in the UK? That said, NZ Sky Sport costs $30 a month (15-16 quid) which I think is cheaper than UK? We also get most boxing matches that don't involve Parker for 'free' on Sky Sport - i.e. Bellew v Haye was free here earlier this year.
I do agree that $50 is steep and I'm not sure I'd say it was 'worth it', even though both of the last two fights (which is all I cared about) were good. I just can't be bothered with unreliable streams so tend to shell out if I really want to see something now. And I split the cost with a mate too so wasn't so bad in that sense.
Only good thing about Parker's defeat is that his next fight will surely be cheaper! :greengrin

It's all about rounds in the bank and if he can get back to 90% of where he was at the time of the Klitschko fight then he beats Wilder.

I don't particularly like him and his style isn't easy on the eye. He's smart though and his ringcraft is excellent.
The more top heacyweights competing the better imo and a fit, focussed Fury falls into that bracket.

I love him, but I totally agree about his style. Like you say he’s smart, easily the smartest heavyweight on the planet. He’s never going to look impressive, but against a fighter that comes on to him, he’ll box them to death.

fury has never been the most athletic looking of boxers but he looked massively out of shape at the weekend, if he is to beat wilder/joshua he needs to get the finger out and get fit, its ok if you have a big punch which he doesnt and against the top end fighters he will need more than that display at the weekend

Khan will never step in the ring with a current class boxer, he knows his limitations and just wants relatively decent money fighting boxers who will never reach the heights of the world class guys. Thrown in an ageing tiring retired legend for good measure and that’s it.

Much like with the big fight last weekend I'd say Povetkin needs a KO to win. Can anyone really see Joshua losing a decision in London when a fight with Wilder or Fury is inevitable.?
FWIW I think AJ will win quite comfortably if he's disciplined again. Povetkin is no mug but I think it's fair to say his record is a bit padded over the last 3 years or so, his last 6 opponents had 17 losses between them before fighting him. I'm not sure I see a stoppage but Joshua by 4 or 5 rounds is my guess.
lord bunberry
21-09-2018, 06:30 PM
It’s a dangerous fight for Joshua if he tries to make a statement and knock Povetkin out early doors. If he gets his jab going and uses his skills he’ll win comfortably on points. After this he needs to fight the winner of Fury and Wilder or Dillian Whyte. Right now I’d rate Whyte as the toughest fight, he’s matured a lot as a boxer in the last couple of years.

If Wilder beats Fury (which is likely) him and Joshua will happen in April. The amount of money in that fight is astronomical. There's abit of political posturing going on at the moment but it's all about the money and that fight will probably do 2 million PPV buys in the UK alone plus a gate of 90,000, chuck in American and international the rights , hospitality and sponsorship and it makes more money in the sport bar any fight involving Mayweather.

I've always thought Smith was massive talent so wasn't any shame in Rocky getting beat by him.
Obviously Canelo is light years ahead of Rocky but there is a huge size advantage, Canelo is 5'8 and probably a natural welterweight,Rocky is 6'1 and a natural super middleweight that at least makes it interesting. Canelo obviously thinks Rocky will be an easy win for him.
Like I said it was probably the last fight I'd expect to be made right now.

Can't see this ending well for Khan.
So fight agreed at 147 with a max rehydration of 10lbs. All in khans favour. Shows how much he’s tried to avoid the fight.

How are they going to police that? Weigh in twice? One just before the fight. Ridiculous clause to put in.

McGregor did really well, winning that title after 5 fights is really good going, great stoppage as well, the Ritson fight was good as well, he did lose but the cards were mental, like to see a rematch

I saw the presser with the Scottish lads. The British title fight is a decent addition, hadn’t seen that. Thanks.
