Taylor was great last night. That was another step up and he never really looked in trouble. Maybe too keen to stand and trade on occasion but I think that was a bit of showboating. The sky is the limit for him if he stays injury free and keeps his focus.
I really hope Scotland gets behind him. There was quite a few empty seats last night. In saying that it was still a healthy crowd and the atmosphere for the Taylor fight was electric. Davies revelled in his role as the villain and his Undertaker entrance was superb.

Anthony Yigit beat Joe Hughes last night to retain his European title via a clear but tough fought UD. Josh Taylor was on the ringside annalysis as he was meant to be fighting Yigit next but Yigit basically ducked him to his face post fight saying he's going back down to 135 as he doesn't have the power he would like for 140. Taylor looked a bit pissed off tbh.
Lee McGregor performed well on the undercard with the ref having to save his opponent from further punishment in the 2nd. The Pole he was fighting wasn't up to much though.

the British board of control make you be a certain weight by certain dates throughout the camp so they know you've made the weight safely, he was about 9 pounds over at that point, I'm not sure all governing bodies have the same rule so perhaps he didn't know and was going to crash it all in the last couple of days

How wrong was I? 4 rounds and 3 rounds for Truax seems wide to me though.
Back to the drawing board for Degale now, not in the Super Series and not sure he'll be on Groves or Eubanks radar without a world title to bring to the table. I've never really take to Degale so can't say I'm too upset tbh.

Suppose it depends on how the super series goes, for the loser of Groves V Eubank then Degale will probably still be the biggest payday for all involved unless he has a rematch clause
lord bunberry
09-12-2017, 10:19 PM
Degale’s biggest problem now is that he isn’t in the super series. He might get a rematch, but even if he wins he’s not going to get a fight that’s going to capture the imagination.

Anyone watching the Evander Holyfield documentary on BT sports. What a brilliant fighter he was. Growing up he was my favourite heavyweight fighter, in a time that we were spoiled for choice in the heavyweight division. It really was a golden time for boxing as we had the ultra competitive super middleweight division over here.

AJ's trainer said he's looking to come in around 7lb lighter than he did against Takam. Good, as I do think he was too big. He'll need to be quicker against Parker.
Delighted the way the fight has worked out. I am organising a stag do that day. 18 of us booked into Hospitality against Partick, and then I had a table for 21 booked in the 3 sisters in the evening for grub. Been advised today they have moved us up to the beer hall as they are opening it for the boxing, so have requested a decent table in front of the big screen. Should be a cracking day.

18-01-2018, 12:23 PM
Seems like a ticking over kinda fight til something bigger appears, don't know much about Soto but looks likes he's had lots of fights, so a bit experience for JT rather than moving up the rankings
Also just saw that 1&2 and 3&4 in the WBC are all fighting and the winners meet for the vacant title, so nothing much can be done other than gaining more experience in the meantime
I will be there though, Easton is never in a bad fight and sure McGregor will be on the undercard as well

19-01-2018, 08:16 AM
Soto looked absolutely huge at the press conference , he is going to have to lose some amount of weight to make the 10st limit and will undoubtedly be drained. He has also not had a fight since 2016 and is 37 years old , if Taylor is as good as most people think he is this fight should be relatively straightforward.

Soto is actually a small 140 fighter. He's fought at featherweight, super feather and lightweight. He does look like he needs to lose a bit of weight but he should make the weight no problem. I think he looks huge because he has a massive heid. Must be a Mexican thing because Mikey Garcia's huge dome also makes him looking bigger than he is. Vasquez had a massive heid tae.
As for the fight. Soto was some fighter in his day but at his age I doubt he'll be anywhere near the fighter he once was. Experience might get him through the fight but no chance he beats Taylor.

Groves was really excellent tonight. If not for the shoulder injury I don't think Eubank would have troubled him much at all, as he did very little in the previous rounds

Wilder is just a swinger. That was his first fight against a top 10 opponent and he got through due to his opponent Tiring. AJ beats him. Then AJ v Fury in early 2019 - that’ll be a very interesting fight. Can see why some say fury, but I’m interested to see how AJ looks coming in lighter.

It's the double standards that I have issue with not so much the comments. If Fury had made comments about the superior white race the press would slaughter him. AJ recently got a bit of stick for a sexist comment he made about his niece. If it was Fury spewing out that stuff the press would have went in hard on him. Being a Muslim AJ has some ****ed up beliefs btw. As for Fury's comments being 100% not joking, well he's got interviews where he states it's all just a big joke to get the fans interested. Looking forward to tonight's boxing, the manin 3 fights couldn't be good, really looking forward to seeing Ritson again and seeing how he does against Cardle who is good but blows hot and cold, hope Whyte wins as I'd love to see him v Wilder for the build up alone

Ritson is up now. I hope Whyte gets knocked out, he’s a classless prick. I was watching the build up last night and he comes across as an absolute tit.

Strange tactics from Cardle. He’ll never keep this pace up. In fact that’s it all over.

It certainly was. I didn’t see that coming.

Now time for the main event. Whyte to win after Browne starts gassing for me.

Yip. Far too heavy and slow.

He can take a punch though. Just as well as he’s too slow to avoid them.

Yep, really scary that. Reminds you how brutal the sport can be.

Just as we say that he’s knocked out :greengrin. That was a bit of a farce tbh, Browne wasn’t in any sort of condition to be fighting at this level.

I actually thought Browne might be dead for a few seconds there. Hopefully he's ok.
It made for very uncomfortable viewing.

Yeah, I kind of went from “what a punch” to “oh crap is he ok” in about 2 seconds.

My thoughts too, went down so heavily I feared for his safety. They talked about how well the British boxing board deal with safety and care of the fighters, yet I question wether he should have been allowed in there in the first place. Was in no shape at all for a fight at that level.

Yep he just slumped onto the floor face down and lay motionless for around 30 seconds, I genuinely thought he was gone.
I know very little about the rules of boxing but if he wasn't going to be prevented from fighting in the first place, I think he should have been stopped after about 3 or 4 rounds. He was badly injured and could barely defend himself from further punches.
I might be wrong and perhaps someone with more boxing knowledge will put me right but I thought that fights should be stopped when a boxer is struggling to defend themselves and I thought that was quite clear last night from quite early on.

At the start of the fight the referee tells both fighters to defend themselves at all times. Browne was just walking onto punch after punch. I hate to see fights being stopped too quickly, but Browne was putting himself in real danger last night, by being so unfit and not trying to defend himself. I’ve seen really quick fighters adopt that style, and use speed to slip punches, but I’ve never seen someone as slow as Browne do it.

It was a real mis-match.
I think Hearne is a total cowboy, there have been Tom's of fights over the last few years where his promising fighters have been chucked in against no marks, usually with some spurious record behind them, who are little more than cannon fodder when it comes to fight night.
That guy was in no shape to fight at the level, but by going him up and letting Whyte do some serious damage to him, Hearne has hyped up his fighter and the circus goes on.

Believe it or not he is a former world champion.
His age and inactivity were clear to see in that fight but he is an ex world champion (albeit won in murky circumstances) and was unbeaten in 25 fights with 22 knockouts so it was certainly a decent fight on paper.

To be to fair to Hearn when he signed the fight months ago he has no idea or control what shape Browne is going to turn up in come fight night.
It's the responsibility of the fighter and his trainer to turn up in shape for a 12 round fight , not the promoter.

It’s looking that way sadly. There’s no way they’d be offering refunds if it was going ahead.
