ive been looking at getting back into the gambling side of things and ive come up with a wee plan, that should work.
on average, over the past 5 seasons (no including this one) celtic have lost 5 games a season. rangers have lost 5.8.
on average, over the past 5 seasons (no including this one) celtic have won 26.2 games a season. rangers have won 24.2 a season.
my plan is simple. bet on rangers and celtic to win every single week. i realise the odds for tihs will be *****, and of course about 5-6 times a year you will lose but...surely at the end of the season there will be a profit there? say you bet £10 on each of them to win every week for a season...you might not win much off a 10 bet but it all adds up and at the end of the season there would be a tidy wee profit there.
odds are roughly averaged at 0.1666 for them to win at home and 0.1888 for them to win away. so 10 would win you 1.80 each game. 1.80 x an average of 28 wins a year = 50 bucks. 50 profit. to make any serious amounts obviously you would need to bet more each week. for example if you put 40 each week it would work out around 200 profit.
there is the draws to take into account aswell of course, but you could mix it up a bit. for example games you think they would easily walk, bigger amount of money. games that might be a bit trickier just put a less amount of money on.
think im going to give this a bash as of next season. no point doing it now as there would be about 20 quid profit max by the end of the season.
another example is.. 100 quid on each of them a week is 18 profit...18 x average no of games won = around 500. obviously 200 a weeks alot of money to be betting but thats just an example.
i think it would work...thoughts?

on average, over the past 5 seasons (no including this one) celtic have won 26.2 games a season. rangers have won 24.2 a season.
Herein lies your problem. There are 38 league games, Celtic and Rangers fail to win around 12 to 14 games, according to your averages.
odds are roughly averaged at 0.1666 for them to win at home and 0.1888 for them to win away. so 10 would win you 1.80 each game. 1.80 x an average of 28 wins a year = 50 bucks. 50 profit.
I'm not sure where your average of 28 wins comes from, given your figues above, but even at that you must reduce your profit by 10 failures meaning an overall loss of £50 or so.
Of course you can increase your bet on the 'certainties', like Rangers v. Hibs at Ibrox (0-3). That won't help.
edit: Maybe better to have a bet on Martin Kaymer in the WGC Accenture Match Play in Arizona this week @ around 18/1.

Yes. A small return, but a no lose bet, nonetheless.
Get on early tomorrow morning and you might find another couple of arbs.
These are hard for the bookies to price up and you might be able to nick a win/win.

I had one a while ago with a "Both teams to score" bet. Typically the evens bet won and I lost my free bet that I picked up.

As I type there is a big arb on Kaymer in the WGC Matchplay.
Kaymer is 15/2 (8.5) with Skybet to win and can be laid at 8.2 on Betfair for over £800.

I don't think that would be profitable after commission(not much anyway). I may be wrong though.
Edit: Just tried to work it out, I'm 99% sure that isn't profitable(assuming commission of 5-6%)

It most certainly will be. :agree:
The upside was with Skybet and the downside was with Betfair. You don't pay commission on losing bets.
So....
For £100 on each side:
Kaymer wins you win £750 (Skybet) and lose £720 (Befair). Profit £30.
Kaymer loses you lose £100 (Skybet) and win £95 after commision (Betfair).
You can adjust the stakes to guarantee no loss on the second bet and a slightly smaller profit on the first.
In any case, Skybet have shortened Kaymer to 7/1. so you're too late.

Looking at my own example above, I think you're right.
If you reduce the win bet to £95, the profit is only 712.50 and the loss would still be £720.
Well spotted.

In order to break even if Kaymer lost you'd need to lay a stake of £105.26. Which would pay £763.16 if he won meaning you would lose £13.16.
With your initial odds/stakes you are basically putting a fiver on Kaymer to win at 6/1(7.0) I think.

Excuse my ignorance but what is an arb?
In layman's terms, it's a no lose bet (or an under-round book)
Say for example in a 2 horse race both horses are evens. Put £500 on each and you win nothing, regardless of who wins. That's a 100% book.
In the Fowler/Kucher market, there is an under-round book (97.62% to be exact). Fowler is evens (50% percentage chance of winning) Kucher is 11/10 (47.62%)
So, if you put £500 on Fowler at evens - this will return £1000
If you put £480 on Kucher @ 11/10 - this will return you £1008
Regardless of the outcome you'll make a small profit. In this case £8 if Kucher wins - £20 if Fowler wins.
That's an arb.

It all depends how big the arb is. In the Fowler/Kucher match, there's only a 2.38% under-round, so winnings are minimal.
The greater the arb, the bigger the returns.
There are folks who specialise in arbitrage (to give it it's correct term) trading. The exact same principles are used in city trading houses on the bonds and securities markets. Little (no lose) profits here and there all mount up.

It's not unknown for there to be larger arbs than the one quoted above (which I missed).
5/4 each of 2 in a 2 runner event (think snooker/tennis/matchplay golf) is an 88.88% book, therefore, there's a 11.12% under-round in the punters favour.
Placing £400 on each will return £900. You lose one bet but win the other, and end up 11.12% better off  That's a better rate of return that the banks offer!
Speedy

So is there any way you can actually lose any money?
No.
However, the one danger is that if the odds are clearly wrong then you may get one bookie cancelleing your bet/changing the price.
I've got £180 on each at the above prices. So if Kuchar wins then I win £18, if Fowler wins then I get my money back. I could have adjusted stakes to guarentee a win but I didn't think it was worth guarenteeing a return with relatively low stakes.
If Kuchar wins then I get a 5% ROI which isn't much but I currently get nothing from my bank as I am in my (interest free student) overdraft.

I checked both prices by phone got a grand on with Paddy Power but by the time I phoned Corals back the operator told me it was a mistake and celtic were actually 4/7. Ended up getting out for a 40 quid loss.
Anybody looking to exploit these must be careful of different limits at different bookies, one might give you a few hundred then you go to the other and get offered pennies.

I've only done it twice but I check and double check online. Open 2 tabs, refresh both of them and place the bet at the same time. It can still go wrong because it only takes a second for the price to change and that doesn't cover palpable errors.
Anyway, talking of price changes and back to the bets for the weekend:
All singles(prices in decimal, placed them yesterday so don't know if they are still available):
£5 Koln to beat Freiburg - 2.3 VC
£5 Wolsberg to beat Monchengladback - 2.00 VC
(The price was 20/21, I went to place it and it stopped it and gave me a 'price change do you want to accept' message - the price had changed from 20/21 to evens...yes I'll accept that thank you :greengrin)
£10 Hibs to beat Inverness - 2.4 Totesport
£10 Stoke to beat West Brom - 1.95 VC
........ Maybe better to have a bet on Martin Kaymer in the WGC Accenture Match Play in Arizona this week @ around 18/1.
Anyone who had the great good sense to follow this tip  can now lay Kaymer at 10/3 on Betfair for a big guaranteed profit.
He is best priced 3/1 fav now and plays Jimenez in the 1/4 final.

I can't withdraw the free bet winnings until I have staked £300 worth of free bets with them. I am currently at £96 so it will probably be lost at some point. I had £56(of free bets) on Man City today as well.
Can't you just open a betfair account and back on bet365 whilst laying against the same on betfair? If you type "odds trick, free bet calculator" into google you'll get a calculator to do the maths. I've been mining bonuses with this and you can easily make a good few quid.

Just put a £50 free bet on at BetFred.
Man City to beat Villa(4/6), Celtic to beat Rangers(Evens) and Chelsea to beat Blackpool(next week, I'll lay that for a guarenteed win if the other 2 win tonight).
Should return approx. £118 if the first two win and Chelsea don't(After I lay on Betfair)
If all 3 win I should get Approx. £130 back(including money lost laying a Chelsea win)

I could've done that but the risk is that I would get impatient and blow the Bet365 money on a daft bet like I did last night.
I got the "Bonus Rollover" up to £155 but I lost all my money on Espanyol and Stoke the last couple of nights. Had £20 on Stoke(10/11) and £55 on Espanyol(6/5). Both were 1-0 up and blew it.
Hopefully my other free bet comes in tonight. I have done pretty much exactly what you suggested, didn't realise at the time though :greengrin
I got both of them out of my golf arb the other night which I won £18 on so it's money for nothing. It's pretty crazy throwing £370 here, and £150 there but if you are careful with what you are doing you can't lose.

Nae luck.
I fancied 1-0 Celtic, but this was a somewhat miserly 15/2, so I took a chance on Hooper to score and Celtic to win 1-0 £5@28/1. When Wilson scored my bet was down, but I had £10 'in running' on 1-0 and sneaked £28 profit on that.

£10 Hearts to beat Killie- 5/6 VC
£5 West Ham to beat Stoke - 5/4 VC

Had an arb on West Ham - 2.6 on youwin.com and 2.5 on betfair. Good result as I was turning over a bonus and expect to lose a couple of quid in the process. Whilst youwin only trades in Euros it's worth a look as the odds are good, particularly if you place a couple of days before the event and lay nearer kick off. That's especially so on Scottish and Argentinian football. 12bet is also worth a look too.
Also lost £8 betting on Hearts to win. I regard putting the kiss of death on them as an investment so I can't say I feel too bad about it :greengrin
