Hope we don't sign Clarkson, we've got 4/5 strikers already. Get a goalie and winger signed pronto

We need a keeper, left sided centre half, two wingers and a striker.
Some delay was inevitable whilst Stubbs evaluated both the current squad and the players available, but I'm starting to get frustrated by the lack of action.

Keeper and winger with maybe one other - creative MF player.

My take is the club are finding it more difficult than they thought.
Dempster & Stubbs have both made comments suggesting 'signings' are imminent. Meanwhile we have only signed two players without addressing our issue of 'creativity'.
As I have previously posted the squad is six players short of what Dempster & Stubbs desire: 2+1 youth in every position.
If I was a betting man I'd be guessing that Rod is still reluctant give early contracts as it means paying players earlier. Add into that that nobody wants to come to Hibs currently. Can't help but admit I'm jealous of our rivals currently with numerous players with the ability to excite, we have none!!

As the season edges closer i can honestly say i am not excited about our prospects, it looks like the best players we will have will be the ones who contributed to our downfall and to make matters worse Liam Craig will once again be captain, i don`t think our manager has watched any footage of last season. It seems like that there will be more than a few supporters who go along to keep Hibs in existence( myself included ) rather than going along with any great expectations, carry on regardless........................................ ......

Me too.
We need players ASAP. Think Stubbs, like the vast majority of our previous managers have seen their ambitions to bring in players diminish after finding out what we can afford.
This is where I would expect a back up plan and maybe a drive to recruit from over seas rather than from down south.
Farid El Alagui is a great signing though and if we can get players of that quality throughout the team I think we will be able to push Rangers.
My real concern is the likes of Nelson, Craig and Tudur-Jones still hanging about. It looks like they will all be kept. I am willing to give the team 100% backing as it is a new era but these players will have to have some impact to win some (should be most) fans back over.

do you actually believe that players get paid from the day they sign? Just to clarify all contracts have a start date of say for example the first week of the season and run till their expiry. There's certainly no benefit of waiting till the last minute to sign a player due to saving wages so let's knock that one right on the head.

I'm happy to give some of last season's players the chance under a better manager who plays it on the deck but this is definitely the biggest worry as it was flat out our biggest failing last season.
Looking through the team (admittedly having not seen Gray in action) I can only see Craig, Stanton and Harris as creative players.
Craig may be inconsistent or it may be Butcher that stifled him but Stanton and Harris are far too young to be the only other creative sources we rely on.
Creating goals usually requires beating a man, pace, a good cross, a clever through pass or a stunning shot and I think we're seriously lacking all those.
Case in point was our shockingly poor corners (something that even I can't blame solely on Butcher).
Paul Cairney wasn't the answer but he was probably our best corner taker last year.
I'm generally in the happy clapper camp (sorry) but even I'd be seriously worried if there aren't at least two additions with some good creative skills.

Successful teams usually have a good spine.
Currently we still have no GK considering the fact we have known for months Williams was leaving.
Centre backs - Nelson isn't the answer and is a squad player.
Centre Midfield - I can't remember the last decent creative player we had in there who could run a game and pick a pass-relying on Stanton or Craig isn't going to work.
Up front - last season we wouldn't have gone down if we could score goals. Goals win games..
We have brought in a new striker but still need more firepower through the middle. They will also need supply from behind and outwide.
We are going to seriously need 4 quality players if we are to be anywhere near the play offs.

We've let more than 14 go
Was it 12 out of contract plus
Boateng Watmore Zoubir and Haynes loans finished
McGivern Collins and Caldwell who were still under contract
Only two and a goalie player coach in
The out of contract players .... Very few were regular starters so the majority of bottlers remain
Stubbs had players identified before interview
Marsella had a long list of targets
Every week we are told signings will be in this week or offers have been made
Appears these offers have been turned down for one reason or another
We need to get a settled team .... Not one that the majority of which hid as we got relegated
I just hope - Takeover is very close and been told don't buy til new owner is in control ..... However my head says this is wishful thinking
Again I hope Stubbs can turn around the players who bottled it and hid last year - however again my head says this is wishful thinking and we as fans are clutching at a very short straw with this hope
The enthusiasm generated by LD appointment, promises of change and quality signings has eroded as week after week goes by and we have a weaker squad than last season
I really hope Hibs prove me wrong
I believe Stubbs and LD can take us forward but by god we need to get cracking

Absolutely agree.
I would however by genuinely amazed if anyone is not being signed so Petrie can avoid paying them an extra 3 - 4 weeks wages prior to the first game.
(not saying that's what you're claiming btw :) )
Firstly, I honestly believe that Dempster and Stubbs are actually in control of this.
Secondly, if they weren't I'd lay good money on the fact that this would have come out publicly and not just as a .net conspiracy.
Finally (and I say this as someone who thinks Rod Petrie should go) I think that however tight he is with the cash he's not completely immune to the relationship between the on field side of Hibs and the financial side:
He would add up 3 - 4 weeks wages.
Let's push the boat out way further than I think will happen and call that 10 grand per player for some back of the fag packet maths.
Let's say there are 5 players in that category and we call that 50 grand (again highly unlikely I know).
The idea that Rod Petrie would gamble the potential losses of a really bad season in the Championship for 50 grand is seriously paranoid.
That's about 2000 tickets sold to put it in perspective.

I think its the claim that 50 grand = 2000 season tickets that is wrong. At 400£ x 2000 = £800,000. 50 grand is only 125 season tickets.

Just back, I'll try & keep this brief but essentially AS has been talking with Everton re loan signings since day 1. Everton however only returned 2 weeks ago & there's lots of work to do before anything is confirmed. The main thing is Martinez needs to determine with his coaches which players should go on loan or be added to 1st team squad. I was told 4 specific names, only one of which I have seen quoted on here. The 4 names covered the positions everyone agrees needs strengthening. I should stress that doesn't mean we're getting 4 players, these are the players they're talking about. Before anyone shouts source I won't put it on here but I believe it's 100% genuine & will give some further info on PM board. I should also add the guy was hugely positive re AS & his new back room staff. I hope I didn't raise expectations too high but wanted to assure people on here that it appears our manager knows what we need & is working hard to address it.

What are the chances the expected 'Announcement' will be about a tie in with Everton's Youth Team.
AS did say that it was an option that he might have to take. Maybe he's been having a harder time finding quality players that are willing to sign for us than he expected.

What position does he play and is he earmarked as someone who could come in and start for us or is he more someone that will come off the bench more often than not .Just trying to get an indication if we are already down to this market for first team players as other contracts allegedly offered to players have been knocked back or do we still have some irons in the fire in that regard .

He's a striker, decent height and got pace. Was on loan at Northampton and Bury last season for 6 months each. Scored 1 goal in 3 games for Northamptom and 5 goals in 7 games for Bury. Including scoring a hattrick against Pompey (Bury's first hattrick scored by someone for 20 years).

Boy Sow is a good signing. Seems Potter is getting in a team that will be hard to beat but will score goals IMO.

I think Stubbs is alluding to the fact we have a goal keeper that is not the French boy that played yesterday. Its just getting it over the line.

What makes you think he's of decent quality? 2 seasons in 3rd & 4th tier of Swedish football, one season in Moldova & 7 games in Swedish top tier for a team which was relegated. One year at CP where he didn't have a squad number & in fact hardly got a game at development level. I posted before ( i have a friend at CP ) that some folk there thought he had some talent but most others thought he was total keek, the latter view obviously prevailed. We'll see over coming season but for now I'm much happier with El Alagui

I meant to include this quote from CP fans' website. Interestingly Palace have a young player called Gus Sow who's a regular in development team, don't know if any relation.
With regards to Sow, someone above used the word proven... 12 goals in the Swedish regional 3rd league a couple of years ago, 3 goals in the Moldovan league the season after. Now that's what I call pedigree!Agree with the majority here, absolutely pointless signing, especially aged 23.

You have only picked one of their signings out of 6 or so. What about Alexander, Gomis, Bauben etc.
FWIW, I have seen highlights of 2 recent games that Sow played in and he looked decent, is big, quick & scored in both games.
At present, on paper & in my opinion Hearts look far stronger than we do.

Sorry, as you posted just after the Sow signing posts I assumed you were specifically referring to him. FWIW I'm not impressed by Yams signing either Gomis or Buaben. Alexander is better than anything we currently have but he's not a worldbeater. Conversely I am slightly concerned re Keatings & the Turkish? guy, they could be hopeless or excellent.
A final thought, we had by far a stronger squad ( on paper ) than Yams last season, we know how that went! Lets compare squads at the start of season proper.

The last time Buaben or Gomis actually done anything good was at Dundee Utd, probably around the same time Owain Tudor Jones was doing well at Inverness. Hearts sign those two and it's "good signings for Hearts", Hibs keep OTJ and it's "get rid of that big huddy". I don't understand why some people are so eager to bum up the Hearts team, but piss on our players. :dunno:

I think Keatings will be a good signing for them to be honest, 15 goals with the Accies last season in this very league, hampered by injuries in his later year with Celtic, was allegedly destined for big things, he could be a difference maker, I certainly wouldn't be underestimating him

Exactly the same could be said about a revitalised Alex Harris.
Not directed at you nutmegged, but I really don't get the "*****" envy type pap posted about whom the The Rangers or the Gunts have signed.
There isn't a world beater among them but we are oh so keen to bum them and their existing players up whilst denigrating ours.

I am finding it hard to read the message board these days. I live far away so watched from a distance a terrible season unfold, yet at the end of the day maybe we needed the Championship to really be able to change our approach to the game. Every new manager comes out with the same crap and 11 /12 months down the line we are back to square one !
Like others however I like AS. Here is a guy who has fought for everything he got and in a short space of time has as some said managed to get us playing with a smile again and ball on the deck with pretty much half of the same players. The fans are in some ways rightly skeptical because apart from a couple of cup runs we have been crap. The back room squad has been assembled with guys with good game pedigree and I am sure that soon we will get a few players in who hopefully will add to the squad. I don't know why we have to keep comparing us to the grunts. We need to fix our own garden and if it means two years down below then thats the price we will all pay for being crap and missing a great opportunity.
The club is owned by two businessmen. Companies own brands which consumers buy and companies change the brand according to how they think is best. Sometimes you need to take some distance from being a fan thats why many ex players fail in management when they go to a club because they are too wrapped upin the emotional part. I am not a fan of the Hibs forever thing but good luck to them if they have a plan and are prepared to invest. I love Hibs and will support them regardless even if i am 3000 miles away. Keep calm and Keep supporting your team. They need you !

There are clear positives in the backroom staff and some of LD's changes seem to be the right changes for Hibs but a winning team on the park will get us back up to the SPFL and that is just not materialising.
The jury is out for me at the moment.

The jury will remain out for many of us well in to the new season.
While I agree we need many more players, I am also prepared to give stubbs time and see what happens.
Realistically Rangers will win the league due to £'s they don't actually have. If Stubbs can get the same players as last season to perform like they previously have at other clubs I will be happy with that assuming we sign some other new players.
Nothing we do here is going to make hibs sign players any faster so all we can do is wait and see.
Last season was horrific, I hope the people running the club realise how hard it's going to be to win some of these fans back.

I know he's not a new signing but booth being available now is the equivalent to a new signing, similar to hanlon being available again after missing most of our bad run.
I'm not saying we don't need new players, we clearly do but every year I moan about signing pish journeymen and say I'd rather we gave young players a chance. Maybe if that's the plan here we need to chill out a bit and accept we won't replace the 16 with anything like that amount.

Id argue we do give youngsters the chance. Last season we had Forster, Stanton, Cummings, Handling, Caldwell and Harris all regulars in the first team, and the likes of Collins and Hanlon who are only 23/24. The consistent problem for years now has been the inferior quality of player we have brought in to supplement the young guys coming through.
You are right in that we wont, and dont need to bring in 16 players. However, we do still need key players brought in for a number of positions if we genuinely want to have a go at gaining promotion (whether through the play offs or even automatically). I am beginning to get a bit frustrated with the inactivity we seem to be showing in the transfer market, particularly with the first games coming up soon. Its fine the 'quality over quantity' line to be used as an excuse, but that will ultimately be defined by what the players do on the pitch, and its something we've heard many times before. Heres hoping we bring in a few this week....

Agree with regards to giving the younger players a chance but doing what Hearts did last season and relying on them will not get us up.
The best way to develop the youngsters is to have them in a team where they are confident and are surrounded by players that can help them improve. Even in the Mowbray era we had players like Boozy, Gary Smith, Stewart and to a degree Killen who did this.
I'm not saying lets go and sign 16 players but I would be looking for about 5 or 6 atleast. We need a first choice Goalkeeper, centre half, holding midfielder, creative midfielder, winger and striker IMO.
I do not have faith in most that relegated us last year. Cummings, Stanton and Robertson aside and Hanlon who was absent.

Not strictly true. He featured in the new year derby win, was then available until early April (til getting injured in the warm up before Aberdeen game on 7th April) and barely played.
So not sure we can blame his lack of goals on injury.

I always rated Stephen Pearson, good energy and had plenty of dig, felt he was always good for a goal too from midfield but his goal return doesn't suggest that, his passing was never his strong point but I always thought he was very decent, that being said, I've got no idea how he's been over the past few years

Won Leagues and Cups, played and scored in the Champions League, got a MotM against Barcelona too if im not mistaken and I'm sure he was a star in the Derby team that got promoted from absolutely nowhere one year, scored the winner in the Play-Off Final, also played for Scotland that night in Paris.
This was all years ago though, but at 31, he is still young enough, if we are going to go with mainly youth players then the spine of the team does need experience IMO - I'm not saying im yay or nay this one but with all that he has done in the game albeit a while ago, its not someone I'll turn my nose up at for now.

Pearson does the Robertson role albeit better. I'd prefer someone who could pass the ball reasonably well with a bit of creativity.
None of our midfield can do this.
Energy should be a given for all players.
Hopefully it is (more) mince.
Pearson was in Continis in George st having a meal with his missus a couple of weeks ago. Don't know if we're actually interested but good experienced player IMO.

I went on Everton Fans site tonight, jeez, they make this place look like Happyland! Very upset at no signings yet, sound familiar? Also saying it's only their faith in RM that's keeping them going! On a serious note, as they've not signed anyone & lost Lukaku, for now, & the young winger, perhaps they need to sign people before letting anyone go. Hallam has 100% been discussed. He obv wasn't one of the players being shown around East main today though. I'm pretty sure the keeper is the Celtic keeper. He was obv in Edinburgh today for the game and Celtic have other goalies to fill in assuming Foster stays.

Absolutely no chance we'll get those 3, unfortunately. Would love to be wrong, but it would be insane if we got them, has any seen Luke James play before? He's absolutely deadly and would look out of play in the EPL!
Only one we might have a glimmer of hope signing is Hallam Hope, but even then, he played a full 45 minutes last night, so that would be a strange one.

There was a guy on social media last night saying that he was at east mains yest and AS was showing a young english guy with blond hair around the place. He said that the guy was tall and about 20-25 years old?
Sounds a great player, hopefully we get him. :greengrin
Think it looks safe-ish to say Oxley is the one we're after. Will hopefully put to bed all the ridiculous zaluska rumours.
And the ridiculous Luke James one!

More chance of Forster leaving Celtic than Zaluska IMO

I think the abundance of inaccurate, made up transfer rumours says one of two things about the club:
1. The club are being a lot more restrictive of who they pass information to as opposed to the last few seasons
2. There's little transfer activity and people are just making up **** cause they're bored
I'm hoping it's the former.

I got the Coulson one wrong, I got told (by a good reliable poster on here infavt) that he had signed. Hallam will join I think.
