Does anyone think a bare-knuckle fist fight between Thorburn1 and happyhibbie would be a good way to open the new stand?

I think thats very unfair, we deal with thousands of posts a week & amongst that we deal with a lot of **** in these posts, we also take a hell of a lot of abuse which you dont see, were on a lose lose, we dont run this place to be abused either but tough **** we get it, were human though ..take away the Admin tag & remember we are just ordinary hibbies like you so pardon us for being abrupt occassionaly !!!

Now can we get back on topic please ..

Taken from about the same time.

First time I have seen the stand in the flesh so to speak since the end of the season and what really got me was the size of it. It seems massive and looks brilliant

It does look brilliant from all angles. Took it in from Arthur's Seat on Wednesday and it looks like a proper stadium

The area between the new East stand and the pitch needs urgent work. The run offs do not look too safe to me. I understand there will be astro turf in this area but it looks like it will be a couple of weeks until that is completed. This will need to be done quickly and before the interior of the stand is fitted out.

...well nothing physical has actually happened yet but I'm sure there has been plenty going on behind the scenes.
Just by looking at that picture I know that something will be happening soon and that the hearts board are giving it some serious consideration. I can almost feel the ideas swirling about.

I'm sure, with the greatest of respect, Hibs have professional project managers and they wil be ensuring the run offs between the pitch and the new stand are safe. Rather than commenting on perceived problems wait until the job is completed.

This is the difference. The board promised us a family home to be proud of and they have delivered! As a Hibby, I am immensley proud of my teams stadium and the efficient way it has been delivered.
They could have commissioned expensive drawings of fanciful stadiums with casinos, hotels, and dancing ladies but they had too much respect for us. They knew hibs fans were not that stupid to buy such a pie in the sky, ludicrous idea. We leave that nonsensical drivel to our eastern european neighbours!

Its looking good. The big challenge they face is to keep that traditional retro feel that adds to Tynecastle's unique atmosphere, yet somehow accomodate 400,000 with the modern facilities they deserve.

It's worth getting right, and shouldn't be rushed.

It would nice, if round about season ticket sales time, the board could commission some outrageously expensive architechts to produce infeasibly unlikely plans for the supporters to feature in Evening News pieces about 'the stadium of the future' with a little box underneath of pesky bullet points outlining possible drawbacks and objections that might yet sadly scupper such grandiose plans.

You may all mock, now, but I remember my first visit to that stand and I was very impressed. It seemed a much better structure than ours. In my minds eye, Tynie in the sixties was a very atmospheric place, old and grimey. If someone had told me that Jack the Ripper had been a season ticket holder I would not have been surprised. :greengrin

That pretty impressive.

When i was down lat Wednesday they were just finishing digging up a trench in the access road to fit a pipe.

Also the posts for the perimeter fence answer my questions about how they will secure ths site.

To be honest I have always been a bit in awe of engineers builders and joiners etc.

I look at a job and think how the hell can they get that done and try and think how I would do it and come up empty.

Then they do it in a fraction of the time and completely not how I would have done it!

When you look at all the old stone bridges they made without cranes etc I just think how the hell could they have done that?

My limited understanding is that they do these things in at least two stages. Firstly make sure stand is safe and ready in advance of compleition date and engage the right people for initial assessment, take on board comments and actions and then they come back for final certificate (if everything ok).

The people that grant the safety certificates will have been around looking at the construction probably from the foundation stage. They grant the safety certificate based on many different parts of the stand, therefore they need to see whats happening before its covered up by concrete, metal work or cladding.

Would be good to have the East Stand open for the Rangers game and the next round of the Europe League qualifiers, if we qualify and have 1st leg home first that is due to take place on the 19th.

If the East is open for the Rangers game, what do you think the crowd attendance will be?

Presumably the plans were drawn up to comply with safety regulations. I would think a site inspection would be a formality.

Of course the plans were drawn up to conform with safety, however, they still have to check at certain points throught the construction that they have been following the plans. If they never checked at certain times throught construction they would never know if they had followed the plans properly unless they ripped parts out and drilled holes into concrete to check depths etc.

If the safety people have been following the contruction at regular intervals the safety certificate will be straight forward, however, I believe there will need to be more than one certificate granted. One for the building itself and another, more of a public safety certificate.

There will be a completion certificate for the Building Warrant the club got to build the thing and then some further consents around it being fit for opening to the public.

Are there still a few seats to go in here and there as there look to be a few odd spaces?

At tunnel exits it looks like there are stairs down to pitch level?

Bottom row of seats right at pitch level!

Is there are perimeter fence going up like the West Stand because if there is the guys in the first few rows will have their views obstructed by it if there is.

I su[pose the guys right at the front of the West Stand will as well.

Presumably the bit at the Left Hand Side is for wheelchair bound supporters?

It would be good to have the exposed concrete wall at that point painted green or something as it would improve aesthetics.

Have they shortened the length of the pitch or shortened the space at the front of the Wing Stands as I dont remember the run off's at either end of the pitch being that big?

Cant wait to see it full

I know what you mean about the odd space here and there. I think they are actually a combination of the wheelchair access area, walkways and stairways. Yeh...stairs from the access tunnels down to row one was how I saw it.

They are currently painting all the stairways white, which looks pretty smart.

Pic 038 shows two brand new holes concreted into the ground which look exactly the right size for receiving the goal posts. but as they are way behind the end of the pitch I can only imagine they are for the back poles which hold up the back of the goal nets??

Taking away the wall along the front of the West and replacing it with the 'fence' from the old East really opens up the bottom of the West and looks great.

I wasn't allowed to get any closer to the East Stand so it was hard to judge how a front row seat would have it's view obstructed by any potential fence.

Still a bit of work to be done though. The perimeter of the pitch alone still looks like it needs a fair bit of work if they are putting an astro pitch run off round the entire pitch.

Overall it was very impressive. Even if the gap between the East and South does appear to be unnecessarily wide!!

I dont think they will have there view obscured, remember there used to be a concrete wall at the front of the west and it didnt stop anyones view. If the touchline was close to the east stand it may impair the view but there is the large run off area which should make things OK.

I would imagine a fence, perhaps similar to that at the front of the West stand will have to be put along this walkway to stop people falling on the people in front's laps, or kicking them in the head, if this was Green it may help.

Overall it was very impressive. Even if the gap between the East and South does appear to be unnecessarily wide!!

:agree: That is the one thing that lets it down, stand looks excellent, but I can't understand why the gaps at each end need to be so big.

the pitch has been widened, the east has been moved further back making the gap larger, its in perfect alignment with with west stand its just further east from the FF and South stand. unfortunate but necessary to comply with international and euro standards ie: run off area around the pitch.

Cheers for the explanation, sounds logical, it does look an alarmingly large distance away from the FF & South though, would have looked much better if it could have been closer.

once the spaces are filled with whatever panelling they intend to put in place, you wont even notice the gaps, would imagine advertising will apear over said panels at some point.

on a side note, does anyone know if they are going to put wording along the top of the east?

Easter Road, or Hibernian Football Club would look the mutts along there! :agree:

Anyone know how the finishing security aspects will be? I take it the old green gates have come down and part of the wall were the old turnstiles were will have gone too. At the other end I guess you can access the pitch from the east side of the south stand? Are new walls going up?

there is framework in place infront of the site entrance, will be similar to the green sheet metal fence between the west and south stand.

Good on you

I was there briefly with a friend - hoping the floodlights were going to be on for the whole stadium.

Regarding other issues with the stand -

1. We have to have a campaign to get HIBERNIAN FC - SUNSHINE ON LEITH along the top of the stand (or just Hibernian Football Club). The stadium needs more identity with club badges or Welcome to Easter Road Stadium on it.

2. I would imagine the big metal gates to be one of the final pieces once all the crane work is done so they can move out easily.

3. Yes there is more of a gap between the East and the West next to the pitch but I can accept that for the stadium to comply fully with Uefa - possibly have Scotland games there etc = extra income.

4. The run off area between the grass and front of each stand will completed shortly and will again add quality to the stadium - right now it looks messy around the pitch but the 3G turf will look quality.

5. Front row of the East is close to pitch level - but you will still get a good view and looks like Flags can be hung over the railings at the front - depends what happens with advertising boards. (for T.V - cameras in West = electronic boards in front of the East).

6. One the cladding is up in the corners it will get a much more enclosed fell and we are going to have a truely amazing stadium

Just drove past the moribund slum that is Slimecastle, and was left feeling so superiour that this I had to get this thread back on the front page.

I think we should fill the East with 6,000 cardboard cut-outs of Rod Petrie, backed up with a huge sound system blasting out the Ashford and Simpson hit 'Solid As A Rock' on a loop for 90 mins, a reference to our finances. I don't know about the Maribor players, but that would certainly intimidate me over in the West.

For example (and god forbid) Yams v Aberdeen semi final...... Yams have the west, South and the South East Stand....

If you look at the picture the back of the seats are about the same height as the rail in front. When you sit in the seats I am pretty sure that your head is well above the back of the seat, also the pitch is higher than the bottom of those rails.

The electronic ones are actually the TV's boards as they have seperate advertising for live games. Hibs must only sell the advertising to people on the basis that they wont be seen on live match days.

Don't you mean Upper West? The lower West would be a terrible view on TV for our sizeable number of armchair fans.

Considering there is a supply for the flodlights, there'll be a supply fthe whole stand. I assume there wil be a fair number of sparks on the job. I wouldn't think they would be too much longer with the installation, although the full installation will of course need inspected and tested which might take longer than you'd expect.

I would hope not.

If the stand is not open for the Rangers match, two weeks on Sunday, it is likely to cost Hibs over £60,000 in lost revenue from Rangers' supporters alone.

Unless there is lot of work to do inside, I can't see it taking anywhere near a month. Come to thing of it there is very little to the inside other than toilets and tea bars.

You couldn't wait just 5 more minutes eh? Pipped at the post, just as I get home and start downloading my images.......now I know how the yams felt in '86

Of course, my card reader is taking a wee flaky, and telling me there are no images on my card, but that's ok, it has done that before. No panic because:

a) N.A.M.L. has already posted some cracking shots
b) I'll just upload them from work in the morning, where my spare card reader lives

I too spotted the open gate, but I think I was in a bit later on than these shots....

:agree: Pretty weird on the eye with all the astro. Pitch is bigger yet appears further away from everything. Strange illusion. The astro round the pitch is a fantastic addition, what a diff it makes and the pitch is looking WOW!!! Sat and watched both teams having a kick about on it over the past two days and wanted to shout 'GET OFF THE GRASS!!!!' :grr::greengrin

Just some wee shabby looking grey boards been put up between the north and east, not even finished one row yet so as i say, will reserve judgement. Just looks pretty hopeless so far. Everything else is looking awesome tho so Ill keep the faith until its finished.

I'm kind of hoping those are temporary ones, to hide the stoor at the back of the stands for tomorrow night. I've got quite a good close up of them too.....but you'll have to wait

It may well be the case that it doesn't matter what the boards look like as they will always have advertising on them

Beg to differ on that one. It would make us look like one of those nonsense little clubs with no support that pathetically compensate by draping big flags over empty seats.

Like Hearts in most of their televised away games last season, four fans and six big flags.

Good stuff as ever Dave!

Quick question though, it appears that the astro goes right up to the edge of the pitch and that there is no grass on the other side of the West touchline, is that right? Also did you see if that is the same on the other side?

I have really enoyed alll the photos I have seen on this thread.

Special thanks to Dave & Jamie for their considerable efforts.

Despite all the negativity on the go at the moment, looking at those pictures still makes you believe there are better days to come, hopefully starting tonight.

Wont it be good as well for Deek to be able to take corner kicks without having to climb the "step" to pitch level and kick the ball in the same movement

I think they were still laying the other side when I was in - there were also a few "long ties" hanging about, so I kept myself in that corner.

I must confess at first I thought that was strange, going right up to the edge, and thought maybe we had made the pitch even wider just for this game.....(short and wide...press the game a bit more) but then again, the touchline usually ends up bare right along the line from all the throw-ins, so it makes sense to have the astro-turf neat to the edges....

Either way, it looks and feels great - really takes the whole stadium up a notch or two in presentation....

I am taking my SLR tomorrow night too

Cheers.

I was just curious as I'm keen to take mine along, however the last time I had my SLR at a game, the stewards took exception to it and took a fair bit of convincing to let me into the ground with it.

I wouldn't want to chance it again if they're going to be awkward about it. Really don't want to have to take the compact.

Was down there today picking up tickets and agate was open. Was going to go in but it felt a wee bit like cheating Santa. So I'm going to wait until tonight to see the ground as it's supposed to be seen.
