He can play anywhere across the defence

This thread is conclusive proof that some people will just moan about any signing. It now seems to be likely that we're going to get hold of a 27 year old striker - who was brilliant for us first time round and probably a better all round player now - who has played in the Champions League, and has scored 122 goals in 241 starts in his career.
Yet people are categorically stating that they do not want him? It will be one of the most astonishing bits of business we have ever pulled off if we get this deal done, and he could well be the difference between us winning the league and settling for a play off place.
Absolutely Stokes would rip this league up massively.

Whilst not as important as winning the league, Stokes will also be free to play for us in both cups

Managers to tend to say things like that IMO to try and play the game that a potential signing may not be as important as the selling club might think they are. Derby will be wanting to go up this season so would be majorly surprised if they dont push the boat out this window.
Yep they do. He's on BBC website saying the same thing now. Expect the opposite as you say. I like Clement, good manager.
Two window signings both forwards.

Would love to see Stokes back at Hibs!!! Was gutted when he went, he would tear up the Championship and give us some real needle up front!
-------Cummings------------Stokes------------
------------------Malonga----------------------
-----McGinn--------Dylan---------Henderson----
--Stevenson----Hanlon----Gunnarasson----Grey--

Bench: Boyle as impact with keatings and Fontaine and Bartley
IMHO it would allow us to use Malonga and Dylan more effectively
That team would get hammered. No solidity to midfield.

It looked like McGeouch moved into the holding midfielder space on Saturday after Bartley went off. Seemed to relish it as it allowed him to start attacks from deep.

We've won most games this season including against Sevco, Arabs & Sheep without a true holding midfielder in the team.

Defensively he isn't good enough, if he plays the deep playmaker role he needs another mid in there to do the dirty work, if you play 4-2-3-1 then he could play deeper.

Disagree think we are a better team with Dylan in that role, reads the game well and has good mobility to cover and win possession also allows him more scope to start attacking moves.

But when the midfield has been right off their game like against Rangers recently, they get totally overran, stability is needed and Bartley gives you that.

Dylan is an attacking midfielder and I'd like to see him do just that, sitting too deep doesn't allow that. We keep saying we need that little spark up top but then we let a player who can give that spark play deep, that doesn't help.

If the midfield are right off their game it surely doesn't matter who's in midfield? FWIW I was never part of the clamour for a holding midfielder this season, I only thought he may be needed in a few games. AS signed big Marv & I'm fine with that, I like him as a player but ironically AS hasn't started him in the games in which I'm sure we all thought he would! Regardless, we won't have everyone available every week & if the Stokes who ripped us up in the cup final's available then that's fine by me.

True, TBH if we play 4-3-3 and the team are all doing their bit we don't need a holding mid, against the lesser teams we should be over running them, just stick in a DM against stronger teams when we need more strength in the middle.

I also find this weird. The lay bet I done on a player was when Kenny moved to The Rangers. Made a packet at the time. But i then tried to place a bet few years back on an English player to move to another club and the bookie said they stopped taking bets on players and only done managers.
I've not done a bet on a player since to be fair but I'd have thought bookies would learn that players will let friends and family know if they are moving before it comes out.

The huns will not be signing anyone for cash. They are skint. Being sued for £300 k as did not pay Wi-Fi provider. RIFC said it did not work. It only did not work as they did not pay Virgin Media either and they cut them off. It is like refusing to pay for a TV as it is not working. But it is only not working as the lecky has been cut off. They are like Hertz were pay no-one and no credit facilities.

Love the wording of the Anderson story on that page
"Former Hearts star Kenny Anderson has headed back to Holland to rejoin former side RKC Waalwijk, where he came to prominence, on an 18-month deal. Anderson’s time at Tynecastle failed to ignite and was released by the Jambos last week."
....So he wasn't actually a 'star' then....or is 'star' a generic term for anybody who puts on a pair of football boots and gets paid for it?

If this is true I think there will be a few more bum filled seats at Easter Rd from now until the end of the season. Even with our impressive form, I think a lot of the Stayaways will only be tempted back if they anticipate Hibs scoring 3 or 4 against most opposition. Anthony Stokes would score goals for money in this league and might even have fun in the process.

No offence but that's just nonsense imo
You don't know him, you don't know the circumstances surrounding his supposed gambling problem.
you don't know the facts of what went on in his last spell.
I've never heard any rumours about him stealing at Sunderland, I'll guess you can't find any credible links to that rumour and even if you could I'd still point to the fact you don't know what really went on.

If Stokes is an addition to the squad rather than a replacement then I don't think we can go far wrong. He has only been on the pitch twice all season for Celtc so he will be rusty. He played 39 times the season before and only scored 8 goals. He has certainly gone off the boil for Celtc in the last 18 months as in 4 out of the 5 previous seasons, one with us, he has got 20 goals. The only season he didn't, presume he was injured, he still scored at roughly 1 goal per 3 games.
He is exactly the type of player we need if we aren't playing too fluently. He can score goals out of nothing and is able to wrestle of centre halves and get a shot in from an initially unpromising situation. He is also a great finisher for when we do create lots of chances.
He will be a loan and we are getting money from the cups that couldn't have been foreseen so if he causes bother just keep him away from the squad.

One of the rumours is that Mcgeouch and Henderson have helped persuade him to stay, if true wonder why they'd do that if he was trouble?
If the above wasn't true I wonder if Mcgeouch and Henderson tried to talk Stubbs out of signing him? I've got my doubts

I have consistently stated my reservations about Stokes returning to ER. I am, however, also extremely aware of how popular a move back to ER would be with many Hibs supporters. With the increasing chance that it might happen, I find that I have to jump off the fence and concede that the possible benefits of his return, backed by an endorsement by Stubbs, might outweigh the hassle he might cause us. Morever, his possible value is quite tangible but his nuisance value is hypothetical. My remaining concern is that we don't put all our eggs in one basket, by cashing in on Cummings, and relying on Stokes. I'd love to think we could have them both.

I think that a likely scenario. Certainly the first two for certain and ties in with reports Hibs will confirm if Anier is staying or not.
We bring in Dagnall and Stokes. Out go Feruz and Anier and possibly Farid. First choice strikers - Cummings, Stokes, Malonga, Keatings.

Starts - 190

Really hope Cummings does not go before we get back up and given what has been said by Hibs so far I trust that he will be here to the summer at least. So Stokes coming in would be a win win - Stokes gets first team football and the chance to get in the shop window while sharpening his skills and goals for us. Cummings gets to work with another good striker which would improve his game as well and goals for us.
Silly season is on us again
Celtic also want first refusal on Jason Cummings as part of the Stokes deal. Hibs told them it would cost them 850,000 - 1M and no less.

no great loss. between all three lumped together, I must have seen about 40 minutes of a footballer, all this season.2 of those are because of injury though, that isn't the players fault.

you are in danger of losing credibility. apart from that, some of your listed faults about a player are bordering on scandal, with his and his club's lawyers.

That Hibernian Retro thing on facebook says we've virtually signed him, just wages to be sorted out. It also said he knocked back Cardiff and ICT because he wants to be near his family in Glasgow. For all I know this is pants, just quoting what was mentioned on facebook.

A new Famous five of Cummimgs, Keatings, Malonga, Dagnell and Stokes would give The Rangers back division a run for the title. A couple of cups too for that matter also would be possible. Get the business concluded with Stokes Leeann!

We'll see eh?
What I do know is that the atmosphere around Hibs was all wrong for years. Players that weren't good enough, fit enough, or brave enough. Things only started to turn around after we got relegated.
Stokes scored aplenty last time around but I also associate him with the start of our decline. And he's done nothing this season.
Obviously I hope it all works out for the best but I'm not getting giddy yet.

He was the last time he was here due to Yogi turning a blind eye to his gambling and borrowing, he won't get away with that with Stubbs and hopefully he's grown up a bit since then, we need a players of his calibre right now.

Fact because I and many many other regular posters on here have verified what he got up to when he was last here, he was a bad influence in the dressing room, if he comes it's now up to Stubbs to make sure he doesn't start his nonsense again.

You could cut off one of Stokes' legs and he'd still end up top scorer in that division.
We'd finally start to make a dent in the Huns goal difference in the games against teams in the bottom half of the table.
I think the baggage far outweighs the potential good.
He had a difficult enough time at Hibs before off the pitch and since then the story of his dad's pub, attending the funeral for his IRA friend and his tweets have made him somebody I don't want to cheer for.
If he'd come out, share his story and explain these things then maybe I'd reconsider but while he remains silent then he's not somebody I want associated with Hibs.
Besides, I wanna see King Dom and Jase rip it up.

I wonder if the yams will froth a bit if Stokes comes back. He is likely to draw admiration and deep respect from them underneath but hideous vile contempt fired out publicly. Top that off with a potential huge rake in from the future sale of Cummings, a player they ditched and it could be a well deserved gonad blootering for the maroon invertebrates.

Here is my take on things:
JC will be sold to Derby in this window but loaned back to us for the rest of the season. Some of the money will then be used to bring in Stokes (and cover a portion of his wages) until the end of the season.
Sound good?

Nowt to do with needing to lighten up. I thought you were soliciting opinions on your fictional scenario.

How much do we think we will pay for 5 months. It would probably involve hibs paying a percentage of his wages and if it was half, which seems to be the norm, then we are looking at around £110,000 in wages which will only make a dent in money from the two games at the wongadome. Doubt money is the issue it's more to do with where he wants to go and of course if delilah and the other jc are happy with his choice. Collins keeps emphasising how Scottish football needs sevco promoted and letting us get stokes on loan would seriously jeopardise this. Ill believe he's coming when he's paraded and not before though. Plenty of time for it to go Pete tong as they say.

There are almost 700 posts between this thread and the Cummings thread, with people speculating what / could / should happen in respect of both players. It's all conjecture and what the forum is for.
So Cummings going to Derby and being loaned back is no more realistic than him going to Barca and being loaned back? Hmmm reality?
