He's not even our player, why are folk getting all humpty about another team bidding for another teams player? He's out of contract and can sign on a Bosman in the summer if he wants. 80k is better than hee haw.

Is that right? He's out of contract in the summer? In that case they can probably expect derisory bids such as that, he's worth closer to 800k than 80k, even if they are only buying potential. Didn't we get similar offers for Deek and Murray when their contracts were running out? If I was Utd I'd rather just keep GMS for the next 6 months than accept 80k.

Is it not usually the case that these bids come in once the player is signed up on a pre-contract agreement though?

Even saying that, £80k is a joke. Hes a really important player for United, and I imagine keeping him for the next 6 months will be worth far more than £80k.

£2 mill? Can I ask you why you think he's worth that much? Flatters to deceive for me and you aren't going to get League One clubs paying that kinda money for a player. Especially not one who is out of contract in the summer.

Great potential, on his day is a superb player used to be the going rate for our players years ago think he's up there in standard of Thompson whittiker were at his stage of his career

On his day I'd kind of agree but feel he has too many off days for me. Maybe it's his diving antics that are clouding my judgement. For me £500k -£750k would be the right fee if he was under a longer contract.

He definitely has quality.

We didn't really see that much of it first time round though. I could only see him going through the motions whilst getting fit for a move to a bigger club, exactly as he did the last time.

I think he was quite scathing about the wages we paid him the last time, calling it "virtually nothing". His reaction would be Doherty-esque if we even put the option of coming back to him.

I'd like to think that we could get players who would at least appreciate that we have given them an opportunity to get back up a level (as it seems Scott Allan is doing) and repay that with a bit of dig and commitment.

Wouldn't surprise me if interest given recent scoring run but with Boyle not having scored and the new guy injured and Farid not back and Malonga away there is no chance of us selling him in this window .Remember it's Leeann in charge now not Petrie .They have just launched Share Issue to fund Sporting Ambition so selling a prize asset right now wouldn't be smart move on that front iether and he is on longer term contract so no rush .
Clearly having posted a large loss there could be temptation but his value will increase as season progresses ,and the days of selling off players at first opportunity are hopefully behind us .

http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/sport/football/hibs/stubbs-i-d-love-to-keep-dylan-mcgeouch-at-hibs-1-3669992

Hibs manager Alan Stubbs admits he would be keen to recruit Dylan McGeouch on a permanent basis if the midfielder was to become available in the summer.
The 22-year-old has established himself in the starting XI since moving to Easter on a season-long loan from Celtic last August.
McGeouch’s contract at Parkhead expires this summer and, having struggled to get game time at Celtic in recent seasons, there is little to suggest that he will be handed a new deal by his parent club. Stubbs confirmed that he will be monitoring the situation with interest.
“It’s still early days with Dylan. He’s still contracted to Celtic, so we have to be very respectful of that,” Stubbs told the Evening News. “I’m interested in all good players and Dylan certainly comes into that category. He’s been great for us, so we’ll just have to see how that situation progresses.”
In the more immediate term, Stubbs is hopeful that he can sign at least one new face in the week ahead. The head coach has already stated that he is particularly keen to add a goalkeeper and a defender to his squad this month, although he insisted he would only be delving into the transfer market to sign players who are equipped to go straight into the starting XI if required.
“We’ve got one or two irons in the fire that may come to something, but even though we’d like to bring in someone for extra cover, I wouldn’t be too worried if we don’t manage to do anything,” he said. “We’re exploring different possibilities.
“This window’s not necessarily a good one to bring players in. It’s probably better for bringing in fringe players, but that’s not what I really want to do. I want to bring in boys who are as good or better than what we already have. I won’t be bringing in someone just to fill the squad. Everyone’s got to be pushing for a starting place.”
Stubbs doesn’t envisage many departures from Easter Road before the transfer window closes on Tuesday week. “As things stand, no player has spoken to me about leaving,” said the head coach. “Potentially one or two may still move before the window closes but at this moment, nothing has been brought to my attention on that front.”
Hibs yesterday announced that development squad players Scott Martin, 17, and Callum Crane, 18, have signed new contracts keeping them at Easter Road until the summer of 2018. Stubbs admits some of the club’s under-20s may be farmed out on loan.
“We’ve had a bit of interest from a few clubs on three or four of our development boys, but as of yet no decision has been made on any of them,” he said.

http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/sport/football/hibs/stubbs-i-d-love-to-keep-dylan-mcgeouch-at-hibs-1-3669992

That's quite a shift. At the start of the window Stubbs was pretty sure a few would be leaving. Lack of interest from other clubs in some of our fringe lads? Upturn in form from others?

Heard a topper about Nicky Clark us meant to be interested

Regardless, Clark has fallen out of favor with Rangers management & has only made two starts in the past 13 matches. The 23-year old may be faced with a scenario in which he just may have to leave to see regular first team play.

Another curious tidbit from Burns’ report was that Hibs actually put in a bid to sign Clark last week but were turned down by Rangers. Good thing too because his quickness & work rate would fit right into Alan Stubb’s vision for the team

http://www.hibernian-mad.co.uk/news/tmnw/hibs_in_loan_move_for_barnsley_defender_reece_brow n_852344/index.shtml?

Barnsley CEO Ben Mansford has revealed that Hibs have made a loan offer for defender Reece Brown.
Brown, 23, has been offered a loan deal at Easter Road, but apparently turned the initial offer down, but the deal has been lef on the table.
The former Watford and Ipswich defender is the brother of forme England and Manchester United defender Wes Brown, and is a former Man Utd youth himself.
Speaking to the Barnsley Chronical Ben Mansford said:
"Reece still has the option to go to Hibs.

"He has fallen down the right-back pecking order beneath James Bree, Mason Holgate and George Williams. If I was Reece, I would join Hibs and play some games."
With Brown turning down Hibs initial approach, rumours are that the player will now have his contract terminated.
Hibs are in the market for a right back after first choice David Gray went for surgery on a troublesome groin injury.
Brown started his career at Old Trafford and had a number of loan spells including Bradford, Doncaster, Oldham, Ipswich & Coventry, before moving permanently to Watford.
He then had another loan spell, this time with Carlilse United, before moving to Barnsley for an undisclosed fee last summer.
The move to Oakwell hasn't worked out, and he is free to leave if he can find a club.

El Alagui, Malonga, Cummings, Boyle and Djedje, I think we should be fine for strikers! I do think that priority should be a back up goalkeeper and a cover right back. And then see how things go towards the end of the window regarding someone who is available who is different class perhaps

Jason Cummings is a key player for us - above all of them he's a lad we should nurture and develop for a big fee - the boy has it. Stubbs manages him well - he's so like Leigh it's uncanny - what he has that Leigh never (in my opinion) is top strikers to learn from in Malonga and El A - which makes me think he really could end up in top leagues.

Like Lewis though he has honking dress sense - another string to his bow if he makes the premiership 😂

I think that's a bit too simplistic. We don't know the details of the offer. Stubbs has maybe said he'd be brought in as cover for Gray, if the point of moving was so that he could play football the move would be pointless. It may also mean a reduction in wages. He may have other offers to consider, he might have family he doesn't want to move away from if he can avoid it or he might still think he's able to break into the first team at Barnsley.

Sounds like he could be a promising signing if we could get him though.

There is a thread discussing Hibs' new structure (http://www.hibs.net/showthread.php?297688-Hibs-new-structure) which is very relevant here. Brown may have been identified as a good fit for us, but there will be suitable alternatives as well.

We did the business we most needed to do - bringing in cover up front - early on in the window for a change.

I'd like cover for the keeper and at RB but tbh I'd be happy enough to see the end of the window without another team making a surprise move for someone like Allan or even Hanlon.

So would a strikers coach and he has participated in making a 19 year old the leagues highest scorer. He is also capable of giving us a back up on the bench and as far as I can see that makes him worth the money.

Id still say we need another defender for cover (unless Stubbs is willing to promote someone from within). 6 defenders with half a season to go isnt a lot when we sometimes play 5 at the back!

Nothing against the lad but it is just a stop gap, I'm not a fan of 4 left footers as my defense even Stevenson isn't convincing at RB, thankfully Gray is not injury prone so cover is all we need, either promotion from within or a loan till end of season.

Booth was poor again at the weekend. That's the twice he has been at right back that he hasn't been great. He was better when he went back to the left last week so not sure what prompted the change again this week.

Anyhow, yes, we should certainly be looking for another right back to have around.

Wasnt there but it may have been that QOS had a decent winger on the right and it was thought Lewis would do better defensively against him, did the winger Carmichael play?

Agree totally we need cover and wouldnt rule out Callum leaving this week however I think we will likely be looking at a defender who can cover both central and right back (might be a loan).

Why should he IMO, he is on loan and will be enjoying playing in a decent team playing a good style of football however we are nowhere near certain to be in a higher league next season and he is merely hedging his bets as anybody would. He is good enough IMO to play Championship football down south which would rule us out financially. We have got to hope we go up and he has similar offers both football wise and financially which may make him choose us because he knows the place and the players.

Reece Brown - Barnsley
Gary Miller - St Johnston

Gavin Reilly - QOS (pre contract)
Nicky Clark - Rangers

Media pick up and go with rumour's all the time. More so if they know the club has spoken with a player or his agent!

No confusion from me. I was trying to help out by suggesting why somebody else (not me) may have chosen a "confused" smiley.

This transfer is different to the ones we've had recently. The first I've heard of all our recent business has been when Hibs have announced it. Therefore this is a bit different and maybe there is a bit of confusion from the other poster as to whether he has signed or not. Even plums on KB know about it but Hibs haven't yet announced it.

With Callum Crane being only 1 of 2 of our youths to sign an extension under Stubbs, I see Booth's departure as vital for Crane's development. He's our new back-up left-back and Stubbs must feel he's ready. Booth is a good player, but this is for the best for both players, I think. I really hope Booth goes on to do have a good career for himself (and I do think it's worth someone's while to give him a shot a left midfield a-la Bale), but his time's up, he's served his apprenticeship and he's now ready to take the next step.

Hibs' newfound standards (or arguably re-found) are a great indication of a bright future. Not everyone gets to make the step up; you have to be worth it. Hopefully Crane and Martin can make the grade.

Posted this on PM board earlier: -

Wouldn't be upset if we kept Booth but have complete faith in Stubbs. Worth remembering that Booth is nearly 24 and approaching the end of a five year contract.

Overall, he hasn't made much of in impression, and given how bad we've been over the last 5 years, he would have broken through properly by now if he had it IMO. He's had as many shockers as he's had good games for us.

I think he'll have a career in the game though.

Posted this probably around 3 years ago TC........CB is a naturally gifted footballer and left midfield is his ideal position for me. Doesn't defend well, but going forward at times he is a joy to watch. I also think Stubbs would have been a really good boss for him - his last three (Hibs, not Raith) have been horrendous for is career and feel sorry for him actually.

I find myself fighting this decision of 'stay or go' - I'd love to see him replace Liam Craig if truth be told, as CB is a far better footballer with more potential than Craig at a similar age.

Even if that's his best position, I wouldn't play him there for us ahead of any other midfielder we already have.

If Booth was lining up against us at left mid it wouldn't worry me at all.

Good luck to the laddie, but it's time for him to move on.
