They're getting ripped a new one the day. Smug, arrogant, establishment, this is where they get put back in their box. Nisbet on fire, Geads hates them was a passion and will pull the strings. Flood the midfield and we'll do them:flag::thumbsup:

This is paramount today, we all have our opinions on the current status of the club but today is the day to put that aside and get beind the team on the park. We are all Hibernian supporters lets make sure we support until the final whistle.

Hope he's never seen again. His availability is a joke and his contract should be ripped up. Hibs have given him every opportunity to prove his fitness, and cant sustain any more than 2 to 3 games in a row. Get rid.

This game reminds me of derbies in the 90s when we played them off the park and seemed to find a way to lose.
Played some decent stuff first half, bit luck or quality required. No complaints about work rate or attitude.

Not going to scroll back through loads of posts to see the comments at the time, so sorry if this has been discussed to death.
What was the story with the penalty claim in the second half? Ref signalled for some infraction in the box but we got a drop ball on the wing?
I'm not raising this to suggest it changed the game, but I'm not sure what rules were being applied here.

ref stopped play for the hearts player (Hill?) being down with a head knock, we had possession of the ball so we got the drop ball. There wasn’t an infraction as such, he’d already waved off the penalty claim, although they said on the tv that var looked at it to check
the hearts player went off with that injury and didn’t return, was replaced by Atkinson

We weren't unlucky. Their tactics ultimately got the better of ours. We can't keep putting it down to bad luck.
I agree that the players did give it their all though. But it wasn't the correct tactics to play against a highly clinical Hearts side with a rock solid defence.

Yes we tried hard, but not defending and letting Shankland dance though our box is what cost us along with not being able to do anything in the final 3rd, luck has no place in the outcome of this game

For once someone with a winners mentality. Shankland ran 60 yards and got a shot away before he scored, shocking. I'm embarrassed to be a hibs fan just now.

Couldn’t disagree more. I thought the team LJ picked was fine, the shape and tactics were good which is why we dominated the play. Our problem was lack of quality in key moments, which is down to not enough quality in the park and poor recruitment.

Our lack of subs was baffling. McGeady and Cabraja looked knackered in the second half. We had ready made replacements on the bench. (Laidlaw & Mcintyre) There were ignored and he brings on mckirdy, who is totally pointless in our team. Then in the dying minutes he looks to bring on Henderson. He’s such a poor manager but we are stuck with him till the summer.

Watch Cabraja at their first goal; as Ginnelly shapes to shoot, he turns his back and jumps out of the way, instead of jumping in to block. Nothing unlucky about that.

The "ready made replacements" have how many minutes of first team football in total between them?
Not saying he got the subs right but I didn't think you could look at the bench and see obvious improvements on what we had on the pitch.
If we replayed the game every day for the next 10 days the results would be just the same. They attack better than us, they defend better than us and they've got more depth on their bench in the event that their first choices have an off day.
It's a shameful state of affairs but it's what happens when every single transfer window leaves you weaker than the last, backward momentum we look like continuing with this transfer window.

:agree: Miller. Hanlon. Tavares. McKirdy. Fish. Henderson.
Its a pitiful subs bench to have to call on.
The area where we were getting most joy, Youan destroying Cockring on the right, they take off Cockring and bring on another player who improved them in that position. Thats the depth theyve got.

Cabraja has been absolutely woeful every time he’s been on the park for ages now. It’s a shame as he started ok but he looks miles off it now. I’m guessing his personal circumstances have ruined him a bit. Would get rid if we can.

Haven't watched the game or highlights yet but actually thought Cabraja played quite well yesterday. Definitely best performance from him in ages, addmitedly not hard.
He can be so poor at crossing at times though.

He was largely poor throughout . nowhere near the level need . Defended a bit better second half, but couldn’t have been worse than first half and going forward v poor . Stevenson still much better and Josh Doig was on a different planet . I’m sure the manager knows it .

Thought we played heart out today. Unlucky,
Posts like this are part of the problem. So accepting of mediocrity.
We weren’t “unlucky” at all. Our finishing and defending was poor and theirs was clinical and their defence chucked themselves at everything.
As for “played their hearts out”, so they bloody should. Effort alone, isn’t enough. You could pick 11 people out of the stands to play and all of them would give their all. They would still get hammered though.

Yep. Only thing that matters in a Derby cup tie is the result. No point in thinking we played well having 21 shots at goal and hitting the post twice when we have been knocked out 3-0.
I'm Spartacus
24-01-2023, 11:22 AM
I know in a derby it's only the result that matters, especially in a cup game, but on reflection in watching the extended highlights, I can see how our possession resulted in zero goals.
For their goals they were in complete control of the play in the movement leading to the goals, our possession consisted of long-ish balls down the wings and hopeful balls into the box, but they were in control of the ball and play leading up to their goals and the slackness at the back plays right into their hands. Going back to the first 3-0, again, there is nothing hopeful in any of their goals, and yet another poorly cleared ball in the box and the follow up shot results in a goal (via a penalty the first time).
Possession ultimately means nothing, hopeful play results in very little, but it's that strategy and control that we need. Absolute direction and that has to come from the Manager.

.............. they've got more depth on their bench in the event that their first choices have an off day.
Heard Neilsen afterwards say on the radio that their overall squad is now such that they can rotate players meaning they can bring folk on from the bench that improve the 11 on the pitch. Compare and contrast!

When our players+management collective is better than theirs, we win more often than not. And sadly, vice versa. It's not rocket surgery.
