Wee report on Hibs official site of Hibs beating rangers. Four of our players mentioned ' Josh Landers ,Freddie Owens , Ethan Laidlaw and Rudi Molotnikov . Can anyone tell me about them and how they are doing ?

I found this nugget of information today on Follow Follow.
Rangers lost to Hibs at every age group from U13's through to U18's over the weekend.
U13's lost 6-4
U14's lost 4-2
U15's lost 5-2
U16's lost 2-1
U18's lost 2-0
That is a wonderful read and shows we as a club must be doing something right. Long may that continue and hopefully that will provide a conveyer belt of young quality coming into the first team over time.

landers is very young, fast plays forward, outside football i believe he is a very good runner .
Rudi attacking midfielder, quick feet good engine.
Ethan tall thin fast, tricky, and scores loads of goals, has been looked at by many EPL sides.
I don’t know Owens very well.
Im sure some parents of the players can put me right though.😄

Landers an athletic striker. Only a 2007, so must be highly rated. Rudi a winger, come midfielder. Very powerful with an eye for goal. Along with Jacob McIntyre, they’re very highly regarded. Both 2006’s. Ethan Laidlaw is a prolific goal scorer. Was on trial at EPL clubs in the summer, & done really well. Think Hibs possibly priced him out of a move. Seems to be playing more on the wing now. He’s a 2005. Freddie is an excellent keeper. Has had to bide his time, as Murray Johnston has been in front of him, but is 18’s regular keeper now. Very agile & athletic. Has played outfield also & 2 footed. Saved penalties last 2 games against Motherwell & Rangers. Also a 2005.

Comes from the borders,a lovely family for Celtic fans!
He is very athletic, can hit the ball really well with either foot, sure our goalie used to get out of the way of his shots when there was a shooting drill, good in the air and a talented runner as well.
Hibs did well to sign him ahead of Hearts, really hoping he makes it with us,and time is on his side being only fifteen.

Rudi & Jacob away with Scotland 17’s this week. Gives boys who are behind them in the pecking order a chance to impress for 18’s while they’re away. The boys highly regarded will start every week for 18’s. Frustrating for boys on the bench, but happens at every pro club when they have high hopes for some boys.

Hibs' Youtube throwback of the day is the 2018 Scottish Youth Cup victory v Aberdeen (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9eWdTpoTHs). Line up from that day below. Good to see the majority of these guys still playing professional football, a high standard of youth development at Hibs. 7 of the starters have had decent exposure to First team football at Hibs, either making the grade or going elsewhere, as a club we definitely give youth a shot.
Hibernian: Maciej Dabrowski, Callum Donaldson, Sean Mackie, Ryan Porteous (Captain), Kevin Waugh, Josh Campbell, Fraser Murray, Ben Stirling, Oli Shaw, Innes Murray, Jamie Gullan
Unused substitutes: Partick Martin, Kane O’Connor, Adam Watson, Gregor Woods, Ruari Paton, Ryan Shanley, Yrik Gallantes

I am "watching" the game on BET 365 and looking at the stats and it seems a case of "deja vu" with the big team - loads of possession, 9 corners to 1, more shots on target ....AND NO EFFIN GOALS.
Dunfermline today, like the Premier teams against Hibs are much more productive in the final third.
This suggests to me that our teams are becoming predictable in the way we are playing and easy to beat.

I’m unsure, I think it’s really important for Hibs and Johnson that the first team players and fit and get used to each other.
Also interesting Schofield wasn’t involved, I think him and Dabrowski will be off in January with Johnson back up.

Tom Carter was also listed as on the bench but didn't see him among the subs - was definitely on the pitch doing warm-up though. Would imagine Schofield back to Huddersfield in January and Johnson as third choice - clubs don't tend to go with just two goalies these days, unless you've heard something

I don't think it's as simple as that, they have done well against other kids but are they better than the player occupying the shirt in the first team? Johnson and Kean see these boys every day and if they were better they'd be getting their shot. The youth team lost to Dunfermline the other day and were held up as everything that's wrong with the club or taking us everything we need to know etc.
I agree with your sentiment, it would be good to see them get their chance but they have to be better than the player they're replacing.

They might not be ready but that doesn’t stop us persisting with players who aren’t ready like Melkerson, Bojang, Henderson, Tavares, McGregor etc. I still think Hibs are guilty of favouring players signed over our youngsters and still struggle to see a pathway for our U19s given the size of the squad and the number of signings still required.

Agree with all that however I think if you are as a coach concerned with mindset or attitude of players starting regularly then a good opportunity to shake it up a bit. Agree there will be s huge gap between playing against kids and first team players however I would like to see some getting a chance.

I agree, I think most of us want to see something different to what we're getting at the moment and it's good when youth players come through so there's a desire from probably the majority of fans(myself included) to see these boys get a chance.

Quite possibly, but like persisting with Drey Wright last season, at some point we will have to accept a small step backwards in the short term for benefit in the mid term if. None of the youngsters signed, at great expense, look like they will make it and are potentially now just blocking the pathway for the U19s. Who also may not make it but they at least have some pedigree and still to be tried.

The 19s (minus Johnson,Blaney and Aiken who were on Scotland duty) lost to Dunfermline Development team who had a few first eam players playing in their side. We obviously won't know if the young guys are ready but let's see them getting a chance rather than persisting with players who are obviously not good enough or not trying a leg.

My point wasn't really about the youth team just that taking a good result in isolation as evidence that they should be in the first team is much the same as using a bad result as evidence of deep rooted problems.

Some of them must be close to getting a chance.
O’Connor and Laidlaw both play in a position where we’re now struggling due to various injuries, Aiken plays in a position where we could do with a bit of freshening up. Cabraja hasn’t fully nailed down LB yet, leaving a possible opening for Oscar McIntyre and you’d expect Johnson to be pushing to get into a few squads ahead of a loan goalkeeper.
That’s a pretty decent situation to be in. Playing for our first team isn’t exactly a cushy number right now and I think Johnson can largely feel justified in not having given these players much more of a look in thus far. I’d expect that to change during the 2nd half of the season.

I think that Hearts have some of their "older" youngsters with the first team in Spain at the mo, and younger players have been temporarily promoted in the meantime.
That said, they got scudded by 6 from someone else (Motherwell?) the week before shipping 5 to us - thats a learning curve !!
Main point for all these players is improvement rather than results - if we bring a few through to be first team regulars, that is the main thing

Interesting article. The reserve league table shows we've only played 2 games, no one has played more than 3. As mentioned our game tomorrow is postponed so next scheduled game is January. I know there have been some reserve cup games also but its strange that both Blaney and Kean in the article place great emphasis on playing against men in the reserves when it appears there have only been a few games. It does seem as if greater organisation is required for the reserve league.

Blaney has looked ok in the games I’ve seen him play. Has Jack Brydon just disappeared now?

He was playing regular with FC Edinburgh but looking back to Saturdays team neather Brydon, Delferrier or Johnson made the match squad.

Why are so many of our highly rated youngsters out of contract? Laidlaw, O’Connor and Blaney off the top of my head all out in the summer. Strange!

I would guess that they were all given their first professional contracts at the same time due to their age. Probably 2 year contracts

We’ve given the McIntyre brothers long term deals. We must think they’ve got a real chance

I think both had decent offers from elsewhere. Hence the long term deals - I agree both look very promising.
Going by my Football Manager save, we need to get Laidlaw tied up pronto. I've loaned him out to Jeonbuk in the K League and he's tearing it up!
Reuben McAllister looking a player too.

The nearest player to making the first team squad is definitely ethan laidlaw, he has stepped up his performances, his contract i believe is almost up.

I thought he was more a wide player, at least he was in the youth league games I watched.

Good all round player who has a great chance of making it. Very skillful, pace, can beat a player and can finish.
He was good last season but in the few times I've seen him this season he has kicked on.
Brooster sees a lot more of him than me and really likes him as a player.

Can play anywhere across the front. Likes to drift wide left like Stokes but can play centre-forward. Seen him play wide midfield as well but definitely more effective in the final third.
Five goals and a few assists in his last three games. Physically he's improved, his attitude seems a lot better, and he's hitting form at a really useful time.

He's taller and stronger than Josh, has good pace and a brilliant finisher. Very talented footballer as well, lovely touch and skill. Don't think hes a million miles away.
