The fact Alan Stubbs is a close friend of Dermot Desmond from his playing time at Celtic, could be a factor in if any deal is made. Financially we can't afford Leigh, so Celtic or Leigh will have to take a hit in the wages department. My reference with Desmond is that he is a multimillionaire and despises Rangers. I imagine he would get great pleasure from Rangers failing to win the league, or hearts to that matter. Desmond has more of a say at what goes on at Celtic than people think.
Heard that Mr Desmond broke down Mr Lawwel's "not going anywhere" attitude in no uncertain terms and would like this to happen. Therefore add this to other bits and I remain convinced it's happening. Of course I also remain convinced that I will be even more of a pr*** if it doesn't!

Not at all! I am becoming more convinced and my knowledge has been gained from here. But I am becoming more convinced!
If it does not happen, I am not going to feel stupid, just disappointed. Extremely disappointed.

Also if this doesn't happen of course people who have shared what they've been told by seemingly informed people with fellow Hibees will be shot down. To this I say it is like getting a tip for a horse: you either back it or you don't and nobody forces your hand one way or the other but the guy who gave the tip had no malicious intent. Anyway he's coming home.

There may be a few Hibs fans repeating the said act should Sparky sign and more than a few of the missus Hibees getting sh***ed in triumph.Mrs Hobo certainly will be. Anyway, we all need to use the Sparky form of safe s*x - just think - come the end of the season we could have potentially another 8000 baby Hibees on the go......

Defence still lacking, we conceded 2 soft goals to a part time on Tuesday. Lets not got ahead of ourselves.
We did, however that was without Hanlon who is far and away our best/most experienced defender. We were also missing Lewis(love him or hate him), Fontaine had literally just arrived in Edinburgh and would barely have known the other defenders names AND it was our third centre defensive partnership in three weeks. Lots of reasons why the defence might not be settled yet

They should be worried. He will score goals easily in this league.
My one concern is that Sparky back in a Hibs shirt this season would seem him targeted by both Yam and The Rangers hammer throwers because they will know they just need to crock him to take us out of the picture. I have never forgotten Neil Berry doing just that to Paul Wright under direct instruction from the Yam bench.

I agree if he comes we will be expecting miracles and demanding answers if he doesn't score but there is absolutely no doubt that if it hadn't been for Leighs goals the season before we would have been relegated as was proved with the season without him - he is not the overall cure but possibly a quick fix just now. I have never been so dismayed (and I've been through the Blobby years and previous relegation) than I am now.

Totally agree, his goals saved us from relegation that season. My point was just that we are a rank rotten side and just can't just expect 1 man alone to come in and suddenly turn us into a side challenging for the title. Would be an absolutely fantastic signing but much much more needs to be done if we are going to have any chnace at all of going up this season because reality is that unless there are big changes we can forget right now about promotion.
following todays result if we dont get leigh on monday this place will be bedlam :bsod:

My concern is that if somebody is going to supposedly fund his wages....It would be to pretty much guarantee we get promoted or what's the point?
If I had the money to pay part of the wages....after today I'd be giving it serious reconsideration!
1 player on his own cannot save us!
I believe it's a very valid point and today has probably just destroyed any chance of getting Griffiths that's we had!

On current form with current squad you can forget about play offs we don't have bottle ,desire creativity or firepower and can't keep clean sheets and part time teams are not afraid to play us . I wasn't expecting to be in the top two but where we are is unacceptable and we have an inexperienced manager who was never going to hit the ground running .its not looking good and agree one player on his own can't be relied upon to turn this mess around .but without that one player to give the club the lift it needs I dread to think what will happen After Cowdenbeath we have queen of the south and rangers so the gap between us and some others could widen further .

At this time obviously speculation however if there is a sugar daddy funding his pay packet I wonder if this individual is providing charity or might he be part of some proposed takeover ? It may be wishful thinking but please let this speculation be true and let us kick on today's result was a sickener and a real indicator of our below par squad Lee would be a fantastic addition but let's face it more is needed.

You do realise we are not talking about a mediocre Hibs team of, say, ten to fifteen years ago which could afford a dodgy start to the season with the confidence and likelihood of a season-saving recovery? The present dross has no right to hope for any upturn in our fortunes and unless Stubbs can perform major surgery to a corpse, the future is more than bleak.

To be honest mate i really can't see it happening at all now :(
Why say this on the Alloa match report?
"Who will be added to the first team squad before the closure of the summer transfer window on Monday 1 September at 11pm? Stay connected to hibernianfc.co.uk and the club’s social media channels (@HibsOfficial) for the latest transfer news as it happens"
Perhaps the strongest indication yet that there is an ace up the sleeve. Only a strong signing or two (or a really, really prolific striker) will get the fans back onside.

More like a result of lazy journalism
Everything has to be connected at a small club like hibs.....

I thought it was a DONE DEAL?
These two would improve us no end no doubt about that, terrible start for us and no-one believes whoever comes in will win us the league but I've always said finish 4th we can still go up. Season is definitely not over signing leigh is a step in the right direction to show fans the club are trying to win back the trust of supporters

Received a text from a friend ( must state now I don't know how much it's true or bull ) that Hibs are trying to get Leigh on a 3 and 1/2 year deal and offering to pay transfer fee over 3 years.
I'm only posting this because I'm wondering how hard this would be to implement?
Can I just add this disclaimer I am not I'n anyway saying I'm I'n the know only posting what I've heard. GGTTH
Celtic aren't in desperate need for funds as they've enough in the bank from the sale of Forster, it's not unusual to structure a pay deal, normally a down payment then monthly payments over a period, if Celtic are happy and want Griffiths off their books, then this could be a goer.

What happens if he comes on midway through the second half and scores? Fact is, he's a contracted Celtic player and he's included today on that basis, I still hope he's in the running for joining up with us again.
How much did Celtic pay for Griffiths, was it £1m, that being said, they might accept £500k and cut their losses.

Wether he is in the celtic squad today or not probably means jack. Hes no in the starting line up, shock horror, if hes on the bench hes on the bench. If he is'nt on the bench, celtic may be keeping him back whilst talks are going on behind doors, to keep him away from the smellic support, orit could be a done deal. Let's not blame any Hibs fan for LG not coming. They posted what they had heard and indeed I talked to a Celtic mad fan lst night in Paris who has NEVER been on any Hibs forum and in fact when I first mentioned it to him 2 weeks ago he rubbished it, but last night he was under the impression it was a done deal and LG was coming here ON LOAN.
Maybe he's got it wrong but if it does not happen I certainly will not blame him, or The Cat or anyone else for getting my hopes up. I got my own hopes up on this one and I rarely do with Hibs nowadays.
As far as being in the squad, Stokes is a starter and he is definitely not wanted by what this celtic fan told me last night.
Could be nonsense, all of it but until we know for definite I am remaining hopeful.
It's Hibs. what else have we but misplaced hope?

Cheers mate, That's exactly it. I pass on any info that I get, and come tomorrow I still think he'll be a hibs player. Everything can be agreed and the deal can still fall through.
It's not as if it's not true, I posted about 4 weeks ago we chatted to Celtic and I was shot down by a couple back then which is fair enough as they don't have to believe me. But at least it's out now in the media so they can see I want lying.

The source on Friday is an agent of a couple of the Celtic players. He'd spoke to a couple who told him the deal for Leigh was done.
After speaking to someone who's actually involved in the deal Celtic have as it stands stalled it. I can't say anymore than that, but it's not dead in the water and tomorrow will be very interesting.
Away from Leigh, Stubbs is trying to get in three players tomorrow, not including Leigh. He knows we need fresh faces like the rest of us and he really is trying to get in guys on a very small budget!

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths is unlikely to rejoin Hibernian on loan, BBC Scotland has learned.
Hibs have contacted Celtic with a view to borrowing Griffiths, 24 but the Scottish champions are unwilling to allow the player to move.
Scotland international Griffiths spent two seasons on loan at Easter Road from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The former Dundee and Livingston forward subsequently joined Celtic in January for an undisclosed fee.
Griffiths has been left out of the starting line-up for most of Celtic's matches since Ronny Deila took charge of the side.

I don't disagree. None of them are prolific but the club have decided to take the time to recruit new players (we lost 17 but have brought in only 4 perm players to date). This is the strategy to make sure we have a lean high quality squad. These are the players we have and for the season we are facing. This is it.

Griffiths hat rick with another brace from McPake. Inevitable. The footballing gods hate us for our financial exploitation of small business, charities and abuse of children. Whoops... That was Hearts. But the football gods have no morals.

I think you will find that posters only said that things had been sorted at the hibs end of things, it still relied on sellick releasing him? Not sure whats so hard to understand about that? If celtic say he can go then he will end up with us, if not then thats that. Pretty simple really?

Not necessarily. Don't get me wrong, I have 0 inside info and my gut says it's probably not going to happen but just because he played and scored today doesn't necessarily change things. If Celtic can bring a player in who they think is better than Leigh then that might be all it takes...

Don't disagree with your first point and while I have no doubt Leeann has a longer term Vision for the club the problem is the previous board and rod in particular have stumbled from one crisis to the next dragging our club further and further down to the inevitable relegation scenario in the worst possible year for it to happen with the two financially dishonest clubs seemingly in a better position than us to come back up this season at our expense .
It's hard to see us achieving Leeanns vision given the position we find ourselves in ,that's the problem We have seen years of decline and we all want something better on the park and it just isn't happening .Any new players we bring in will take time to settle and Stubbs will take longer to know what best team is .Loan players might depart in January and we stat again brining in more loan players . It's not the answer but I reluctantly accept that's where we are and these Consultation Meetings this week really need to be pushing the club to come up with answers about how we move forward from here which has to include new ownership/investment .I am not prepared to pay over the top prices again next season if we are in the championship again and that looks a distinct possibility

Scepovic has apparently stalled signing the contract on offer from Celtic as he wants to wait to see if any other offers from elsewhere come in first. In other words, he doesn’t care who he ends up playing for, he’s in it purely for the money by the looks of things.

Absolutely devastated. I said yesterday that it will completely ruin my view of the season if Griffiths doesn't sign for us now. I am totally despondent with the club and feel like giving up on them.
