It’s Trump. Meet the new boss :greengrin

All eyes and ears seem to be on the antics of Trump and his sheep party. Is the Democratic Party equally rallied behind sleepy Joe or is there the slightest hope of a candidate who might prevent the inevitable return of orange peril?
Boris is an awful but I'd say they were more akin to Polands recently departed right wing government or Meloni the idiot in Italy.
I think the difference is Boris was bombed after public opinion plummeted after he got a fine for partygate. Trump will come in after inciting an interaction, having charges of sexual misconduct and multiple charges of fraud facing him. Something like 90% of people who intend to vote for him say the election was rigged as does he, I think half of the tories in the UK agree the tories time is up and most will accept the election.
Both undoubtedly ********s though
There is a school of thought that most Americans aren't following the primary process and are unaware that the orange skid mark is about to be up for President again. I will never understand those that check out of the electoral process because they're all the same. The belief is that once they do the mainstream will balk and vote Biden. I can't believe that the majority would vote for that idiot again (not that he's ever won a nationwide majority of votes in a general election).
The Republicans are also doing a good job of baselessly smearing Biden so that a huge chunk of the electorate think "they're all as bad as each other", hopefully a few court cases and convictions will set that to right. There is no balanced news coverage here, so I'm not sure how it will play out.

The former president provides an elaborate description of missile defense technology: Ding ding ding ding boom whoosh boom
Oh he's losing it, so many times he's claimed Obama is still in office (I wish!), he recently confused Nikki Haley and Nancy Pelosi. All while claiming Biden is too old and past it.
Trump wins new Hampshire one of Haleys best chances at a state. Trump v Biden looking extremely likely. Trump slight favorite with the bookies and the polls but a long way and a few court cases to go
I'm coming round more and more that there should be an upper age limit for those involved in politics. Absolutely mental that the presidency is probably going to come down to a straight choice between two guys who would be long retired in most other fields of work. Both seem to lack capacity in some regard and as much as people will say they are a figurehead and others will stop them doing anything really silly (like pressing the button), they are the ones where the buck stops.
It isn't just in the US either. Albeit, our PMs tend to be younger than the likes of Trump and Biden but if you take our House of Lords to be our unelected equivalent of the US Senate, the HoL has an average age of 71 whereas the Senate is 64. The House of Representatives is broadly in line with the average age of the Commons, somewhere in the 50s

He’s going full 1933 Hitler now.

We know where it will lead. If he wins we are all goosed, if he loses we are all goosed in a slower way. Far right are patient and wind their way around circumstances and opportunities whether they are in office or not they weild most of the power regardless. The current tub thumping for war is just another baby (goose) step towards catastrophe.

I’m not a historian so I have no idea in regards to Hitlers speeches but I do know 2 American couples who vote for trump and they are perfectly normal (apart from carrying guns as they come from a rough area)
Half of America support trump. I do feel we overly judge him because our media portrays him so badly, but if he’s so bad, why do so many vote for him?
I was in Miami 2 years ago and not one person had English as their first language. I felt like I was in Mexico.
He is a narcissist and obviously fighting tooth and nail to get elected so he can pardon himself but his policies and rhetoric obviously appeal to a lot of normal Americans.
I hate him for what’s he’s done in Scotland and i hate him for his stance on Ukraine. I’d also laugh my arse off if he got jailed but all the hatred of him and all these court cases against him just peddle the deep state/conspiracy theatre narrative.
Perfectly normal white supremacists.
Mostly our media portrays him as he is. He's portrayed as bad because that's what he is. Many vote for him because they are thick as ****, and they're white supremacists like he is.
Many native Americans don't have English as a first language. Welcome to real life. Assuming they do, or they should, is a racist position to take.
See above. They're as racist and stupid as he is. There is no "but" here.
Quite the most laughable thing you've said, in a laugh filled post.
Miami sounds good, bet the food is banging if so many Hispanic Americans. He just sews devision and hatred and it works for him. Unless speaking Navajo or Cherikee then every language in America is that of immigrants
Everything he does or says is about division and hatred, goes on about building walls to keep out Mexicans, maybe start by giving their land back like Texas, New Mexico and large parts of California, all stolen from Mexico. He also goes on about immigrants, does he not realise that all Americans are immigrants except the native ones, also most Americans are thick and believe his BS.
When you tell people that they would be better off if it weren’t for *them*, it’s *their* fault that you don’t have more, that *they* are the cause of all your problems, some people will be taken in by that rhetoric and/or choose not to look at the evidence to the contrary. When you follow that up with ‘vote for me, follow me, I’ll make sure these *bad people* are stopped from what they do, and your life will automatically get better’, it appeals to many of them.
You can substitute *them* with whichever group fits the purpose - for Trump he blames Mexicans and immigrants, Hitler blamed the Jews and other groups deemed inferior and undesirable, the tories blamed the EU, and now ‘the boats’ and illegal immigrants.
Whether you’re telling the truth doesn’t really matter, once you’ve taken power, you do what you want and keep blaming *them*. Look at brexit, it’s been the disaster that it was widely described as the likeliest outcome, we’re all demonstrably worse off in a number of ways, but the tories still blame the EU, despite being warned of what would happen and ignoring the fact that brexit was wholly instigated and enacted by the UK, not the EU.
Watergate is considered to be a massive political scandal in the US. Trump has carried out far worse as a presidential candidate, incumbent and potential candidate, and is clearly a horrible human being. Yet Nixon is still deemed to be a dark point of presidential history, and trump is a popular and likely candidate, legal issues notwithstanding. Because he tells a significant proportion of the populace that he’s the one to stop *them*, and they’re disillusioned enough to listen. Even though almost everything coming out his mouth isn’t just a pack of lies, they can be easily proven to be lies.
The way the likes of trump and Johnson tell lies publicly in the highest offices, blatantly ignore laws when it suits them, and ride roughshod over centuries of protocol and constitution, is absolutely despicable.
I’m not advocating for trump, I despise the guy and he’s a threat to democracy and just about everything you can think off.
I hope he ends up in jail but it’s good to understand both sides of the arguement in situation in life.
We have no idea what daily life is like in America, but obviously people vote for him. They’re not all white supremacists, right wing nut cases.
To label all trump supporters that, also makes you an extremist as you’re unwilling to listen to any other argument rather than your own.
I listened to trump’s speech and most of the things he’s whipping up outrage about is to sage his own skin.
I vote SNP and for independence but I can see why people vote for the Tories.
I have a house in france and voted to stay in the EU but I fully understood why people voted to leave.
The only think where I don’t listen to any debate is about Putin and Russia and jambos
I'm perfectly willing to listen to other viewpoints. I've seen no argument that demonstrates that his supporters are anything other than white supremacist redneck racists. Or perhaps they're just very very stupid.
Lucky you. I too understand why people voted to leave. In the main it's because they were stupid xenophobic racists who wanted to see less brown people in Sainsbury's. Plus they were too stupid to realise that they were being lied to on a grand scale by Gove and Farage and Johnson and the other ******* liars.
So I’m sure Bill Foley is a republican and if Trump gets the nomination and Foley votes for the republicans does that make him a stupid xenophobic racist?
You simply cannot tar all trump supporters as that, it’s absurd.
Again, I stress I’m not sticking up for Trump because I’m not.
I don’t know how to do the split answers thing 🤣
No doubt Brexit was driven by illegal immigration and lies from Boris Johnson & Co.
Also Boris was never a leave voter. He calculated that by being the head of Brexit would give him the best chance of being PM, a gamble which paid off.
Unfortunately the rise of UKIP was stealing voters from the Tories so David Cameron granted the referendum. Ultimately it was Farage that caused that decision.
So yes I agree the majority who voted for Brexit were racists who purely voted to stop immigration but there are some who voted because they disagree with a lot of things the European Parliament do and what it is becoming.
Again, to label people who voted leave as xenophobic and racist is rather extremist and not for me.
Why can’t people just have a balanced debate nowadays without being either 100% yes or no. It’s why politics is becoming so toxic because it’s either them or us, black or white.
Where's Leroy Jethro Gibbs when you need him?
I believe the question was, why do people vote for Trump?.... so here's my take on it.
-----------------------
Many people vote Trump because they want to believe what he says.
Trump has absolutely no interest in, or concern for, ordinary people yet they somehow believe he's going to 'Drain The Swamp' of Wall Street. He didn't make one single step to doing that during his first four years. On the contrary, he IS the swamp of Wall St.
The far-right sees a man who refused to condemn them and said 'there's good people on both sides'.
The Evangelical Christians vote for him largely because he filled the supreme court with judges that give them what they want, like the attacks on women's rights to abortion.
The closed minded racists imagine an America of English speaking white Europeans and listen to his talk of 'building a wall' on the Mexican border and stopping those Spanish speaking darker skinned people from 'invading' their country.
The rich and the middle classes see a man who wants to reduce the tax that they pay, no matter how that affects the poorer working classes or the environment.
The vast majority of his followers still believe the last election was stolen, despite all the evidence to the contrary, so should we really be thinking of them as 'ordinary, decent people'?
That's too simplistic, and you're conflating a Tory PMs adversorial attitude towards particular issues with pushing for meaningful political and structural change within the EU.
If you don't want simplistic polarised political discussions you shouldn't really boil issues down to simplistic and mistaken statements - that's exactly what leads polarisation.
Nuance, content and some objectivity help.
(See also "no one in Miami speaks English".)
So what were the valid concerns re-the EU?

aww poor Donald Takeaways from the massive jury verdict against Donald Trump | CNN Politics
A jury said that Donald Trump should pay $83.3 million in damages Friday, an eye-popping sum that marks the sharpest legal setback for a former president now entangled in multiple criminal and civil cases while he campaigns for the White House.
and i bet he still insists he's never met her :hilarious
The reason trump was elected and somehow might be elected again is simple. It’s Because in a country of 335 million people the best the democrats choose to put up against him is Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden.
Much like British politics the American public get to choose between absolute fools. I’m sure politicians have never been great but the choices on the ballot in the USA and Britain have never been worse.
Americans are a different breed to us in terms of nationalism and the middle ground voters are more likely to swing to the alternative when one choice is weak as piss, and when the alternative is as useless as Biden it really won’t surprise me one bit if trump wins the election.
The Biden government couldn’t have picked a worse time to take a seemingly soft stance on border control which will play massively into Trumps hands.
Scary times regarding the war in Ukraine.
Here's a pretty good summary of Trump: https://x.com/JohnOBrennan2/status/1...390016638?s=20
The potential for Trump to have to declare bankruptcy must be quite high now. Yesterday’s ruling and the upcoming one for $330m where his guilt is already established and they are just deciding the amount may be close to wiping him out. I very much doubt he has the cash. He may be able to sell assets but the problem there is he inflated there value to borrow against them and there may not be as much(if any) equity in them as he thinks.

That would break campaign finance laws. Not that that would worry him but I think a closer eye is being kept on him than last time.
And he is already struggling to match Biden. That’s why he is gutted Hailey is staying in the race. It’s costing him money to keep fighting.

Quite. And they're openly saying they won't vote for anything that might reflect well on Biden. A bipartisan bill looked like a goer the other day, then Trump got involved, and Mitch McConnell said that, unfortunately,, the politics had changed.
There's an unusually small amount of legislative business taking place because the Republicans' main goal at the moment is thwarting Biden's plans, even if they agree with them, and they have the numbers to do it.
Dr Morel, Hitler's Reichsspritzenmeister, would have been proud.

I think you're right that that's the convention, but Biden is being challenged (very unsuccessfully) for the nomination by Dean Phillips, a woman whose name I can't remember (a self-help author, I think), and previously by Robert Kennedy who is now running as an independant. Biden won the New Hampshire primary last week with 64% of the vote, despite not even being on the ticket*, after a successful campaign to write his name on the ballot.
* Because of a dispute about the primary calendar between the state, who have a rule that they have to be the first primary, and the Democratic party who shifted their first primary to South Carolina because it's more diverse than New Hampshire. Which is really white.
Seems Biden is a good judge of character on the weirdo that is Trump

Probably the dumbest clip I've ever seen, Trump is surrounded by imbeciles

seriously, WTF is wrong with this THING Trump says he would 'encourage' Russia to attack Nato allies who don't pay their bills - BBC News he's just not right in the head
Thankfully all other states bordering are in NATO and they would utterly obliterate Russia. Definitely will be a blow to Ukraine. Mood music is that Putin is holding on fighting until November when Trump comes in and he can push for a favorable deal and annexation.
Ukraine will fight on due to the money agreed by the EU last week but Europe has to step up. Only Germany Poland and the Baltics are taking it seriously in stepping up their military. The duo of Iran and Russia will push all they can.
Trump will push countries like Taiwan and the Baltics to look at getting their own nuclear arsenal if they can't depend on the US
It was a poor report and press conference for Biden on Friday, made him look more frail. I've never know anything like this the two opponents falling to the finish line, really poor stuff. Haley leads Biden by 10 in some polls but the brainwashed right would rather their fuhrer than anyone
Trump only sees things in monetary terms and even then he mostly gets it wrong. The US became a super power on the back of wars, why wouldn't he think war is good for the US?
Trump cowtows to putin at every turn.
Boris's wife was high up in The Conservative Friends of Russia Group and Boris worked for The Telegraph which was getting £250,000 a year from Russia to to promote Russian needs. Any investigation into these contacts has been blocked. When Russia first invaded Ukraine ten years ago Boris blamed it on the EU and called them Nazis.
Johnson has a stated ambition to be a "war Prime Minister."
All through this Russian ambitions have been available in their statements and writings since the 1990's, alongside their stated psychop plans to divide the USA and the EU.
What chances the war in Ukraine doesn't expand? Its all there in front of our eyes.

I thought that a year ago but he seems to be getting these trials delayed.
If he is on the ticket he beats Biden 100%.
An absolute disgrace that the best the US can come up with is Trump and Biden.
Then again, we've had Boris, Truss, Sunak and Starmer to come.
Will we ever again see an intelligent, inspiring, empathetic leader in either country?
Wow on Friday Trump said the NRA that he would mobilise 150k-200k national guards immediately to start deporting millions of immigrants. Aides say The army would have to be made up from people from red states and travel into blue states. Maybe they could use cattle trains!
"When I am President, on Day One, instead of fighting Texas, I will work hand in hand with Governor Abbott and other Border States to Stop the Invasion, Seal the Border, and Rapidly Begin the Largest Domestic Deportation Operation in History. Those Biden has let in should not get comfortable because they will be going home"

Ronald Brownstein
@RonBrownstein
To round up migrants, Miller said, Trump would dispatch forces to “go around the country arresting illegal immigrants in large-scale raids.” Then, it would build “large-scale staging grounds near the border, most likely in TX,” to serve as internment camps for migrants
From these camps, admin would schedule constant flights returning migrants to their home countries. Miller: “You create this efficiency by having these standing facilities where planes are moving off the runway constantly, probably military aircraft, some existing DHS assets"
Jason Houser, former ICE Chief of Staff, says removing 500k to 1 million migrants a year could require as many as 100,000–150,000 deputized enforcement officers. Staffing the internment camps and constant flights that Miller is contemplating could require 50,000 more people
As far as Russian interference in the US elections is concerned, this is not so subtle
US election 2024: Putin says he prefers Joe Biden over Donald Trump in the White House - BBC News
I think the timing is obvious after Trump taking a bashing in America about his NATO comments and Biden calling him a useful idiot. Same with Carlson he's been getting called an asset by big hitters in the US so Putin starts mildly criticising Carlson yesterday. You scratch our back
The amount of times Trump says "that hasn't been seen in this country" has got me wondering if they're all blind.
$354m ruling against him.
He does not have that. Judge has hammered him.

Video of tucker Carlson in a Russian supermarket, amazed how you put a coin in a trolley and get it back when you return it. He says it makes a change from homeless people stealing trolleys
I thought it must be a *isstake but it’s genuine.
These *unts are mental
Saw that bizarre. He was saying today when challenged about being soft to Putin and not questioning him on his crimes and Navalny, he replied all politicians have opposition killed. He also says he is an example of opposition press being squashed. Idiot doesn't say whilst he is free to make money and say what he wants in America that opposition voices in Russia stay in prison or die. I think he's close to defecting to Russia the bampot
