Seen a few folk mention this about the shape on Saturday but I didn’t really see any fundamental difference in it. He’s been clear the shape is the shape and it was maybe slightly different because of the personnel but I didn’t really see anything different. It’s also why I think too much has been getting made of the shape because, even in a 442, there is always going to be one of the two dropping off as Vente has spent a lot of time doing.

I think Rudi could not be described as a second forward on Saturday so hence why not a 4-4-2 IMO.

I agree too much being made of formation because there isnt too much difference between 4-4-2 , 4-3-2-1, 4-5-1, 4-4-1-1, 4-3-3. They are all pretty interchangeable.

The difference was Rudi didn't just drop in - that was his starting area. But as you know its not a major difference which is why the 442 chat annoys me. Its also not the same way he played in most games at CCM.

Will be interesting to see the likes of Marcondes shouldn't be feeling daunted at the prospect of lining up against Rangers, so hopefully we see some bravery on the ball and the team can take a lift from that - far too often in these games we make life difficult for ourselves due to the way that we treat the ball like a hot potato and just kick it the way we're facing half the time, so some composure and confidence on the ball would be a welcome change.

I think that's one of the big benefits of signing better players - it'll obviously help in the smaller games, but in a game like tonight where, frankly, this squad consistently goes into hiding, having a couple of players in the team who have competed against better players more often than not is a massive bonus.

As a fan, i enjoyed the 5-5 with Der *** under Lennon far more than a number of scrappy 1-0 wins in the freezing cold i could mention. Sometimes joy and glory means more than league position. Some may disagree but maybe we all go to games for various different reasons?

We were average start of the season under Lennon and then in January we made some good signings and played against rangers, think it was Allans first game back and everything clicked and we looked a real team.

Heads up anyone travelling near Asda Newhaven or along Ferry Road near Leith Library- the road is closed just past Asda towards Ocean terminal so traffic is all taking other side streets and routes meaning it’s really busy of coming that way. Would maybe avoid if that’s your route.missed game because of this. Lyndsay road is closed, never got home from work in time after sitting in traffic for about two hours and eventually parking up instead of sitting any longer, and walking home 🙄

An anecdote on Lovell. He’s a neighbour of a guy I used to play football with and came along to our game of 7s once. Enjoyed playing against him as he still had his touch and football brain.
