Looking that way from pre-season, I was surprised Oscar was not involved and wonder if a loan will be agreed.
Does anyone know if any of the players currently out on loan at the moment eligible to play development matches? I could be wrong but I'm sure this deal had been arranged in the past.
It could be a big ask for the 18's to be asked to play both levels.

Have we still got a development team? Barely played any games last season and we’ve binned loads of the over agers so was assuming we were going 1st team and under 18/19 only?

How many games did they play last season and who's been binned?
From last seasons 18s I thought the stick outs were Owen Hastie and Jacob McIntyre. In the Development team Delferriere was the stand out in my opinion.

Then a few games against English clubs which was supposed to be the original plan but during the whole year . I think a lot of the players played for on loan clubs at weekends while playing for our devt team midweek ( wasn`t a full season anyway ) . Presumably there`ll be some sort of reserve league we could play in this season .
Are we the only club which talks about a " devt team " ? I`m in a tiny minority but I think the idea of signing potentially good young players , having a "devt team" was a great idea and I`m sorry it wasn`t continued . It was the only way to try to make making top 2 and some progress in Europe a realistic ambition .

Hardly any - I asked last season and got various different sketchy answers due to the mix up with the under 19s, under 18s and the odd game after Christmas the dev team played.
Hauge and Tait are away and Tavares on his way. Can’t think of who else - obviously the loan deals instead of development team games is seen as more beneficial this season for the likes of O’Connor and Johnston.

I agree with you, the development team idea is a good one, it was just badly executed. I thought the strategy last summer was good but we weren't prepared for it as a club, didn't have the right people making recruitment decisions and so the strategy failed.
It's a shame, we've gone back to tried and tested for this season and I think we'll do well but we've taken a step back in the long term aspirations of the club, imho.
I hope we revisit that strategy later and I think we'll need to make sure the foundations are there and the first team - which should always be the priority - are better suited for it.

Megwa, McAllister and Rudi to all make debuts before January before the latter two going out on loan for more consistent football.
O’Connor, Blaney, Johnson and McLellend hopefully come back in good positions for pre season next year, think McLellend could be similar to tait though and would have made the first time by now if he was good enough.

The Development team played about 20-25 games in the league, league cup, Challenge Cup and friendlies against English clubs, I went to at least 10 of them.
I don't know what you mean by binned but only one player has been released (Josh McCulloch). Hague has been transferred and the likes of Aiken, O’Connor, Tait, Johnson and McClelland are on loan whilst Laidlaw hasn't renewed his contract.

When Steve Kean spoke about it he wasn’t as clear as you were on the number of games. So Hague is out and Tait too? Plus the others you mentioned out on loan instead of playing in the reserve league?
As has been said above it was a good idea but don’t think at the right time for us as a club. This approach feels better - I wouldn’t want them playing the in Lowland League either.

Hague has been transfered, McCulloch has been released and Laidlaw didn't sign a new contract.
6 or 7 are away on loan including Tait and at least one more will be going on loan soon. Depending on the type of loan they can still play Development games on a Tuesday afternoon.
The Development teams which played against Dunbar, Berwick and Gretna were very young and included a number of 15 and 16 year olds.
They've potentially got friendlies against foreign and English opposition coming up very soon which will be a good test for them.

Left at home for the training camp, stuck at home playing development games while I could be wrong but I'm sure Jacob played LB/LWB vs Bournemouth for a short time before it got changed. I could be wrong on that.
Not even involved tonight and that's including Obita being out injured.

Devt team idea was / is a great idea and it`s a pity we didn`t have courage to keep it going ( I suspect Ron Gordon`s health problems played a big part as I`m sure he would have wanted us to keep giving it importance even if first team was struggling ) . Was a possible way to try to make team compete at a higher level in the next 3 / 5 / 10 years . Now we`re back to thinking 3rd to 5th is success which it is if you look at last 50 years . And will now have to accept that when we do qualify for Europe like this year , that we`ll struggle against almost any opposition . Hearts lost against a Maltese team a few years ago . We all enjoyed it but with financial restrictions faced by clubs based in Scotland it wasn`t really a big surprise and there will be more , hopefully not involving us . What`s being called devt team now is basically a reserve team - players too old for Under 18 , players coming back from injury etc.

He trained with Falkirk without doubt and that came from a Falkirk first team player, he was never signing for them however and it was simply giving him the facility.

Does Tait has 2 more years on his contract so this is an important loan.
Picking up on the previous chat, is there any chance of Laidlaw staying on at Hibs? Is there a still a contract offer available to him? The players still train with their loan clubs when on development loans. They are usually go to part-time clubs so training is in the evening and doesn’t clash with Hibs training.
I think O’Connor and Aiken have benefited from going to Airdrie early and doing preseason with them. Often when we send players out on loan they join clubs late in the transfer window and have to try and win a starting space in an established XI.

Must be better as in effect they are getting F/T training while playing with PT team and have the benefit of Hibs coaching / diet / science input where hibs can really see how they are progressing - SHOULD make for more informed decisions when it comes to who to keep and develop and who is not going to make the grade

Murray Johnson was on the bench as QOTS drew 0-0 with East Fife (lost on pens). Kyle Mclleland suspended after sent off at the weekend.
Obviously not sure what the exact situation is at QOTS but hope Murray can establish himself as their number 1. Not exactly a great loan if he’s only backup.

Josh O’Connor started and played 70 odd minutes last night for Airdrie. Murray Aiken an unused sub.
Aiken did get on in the 90th minute or so.

I thought I’d remembered hearing that Stephen’s son was with the academy but thought surely he’s not old enough to be getting to this sort of stage yet?

Just to confirm a few things people have already asked on this tread.
the Reserve league is again a limited format with only 9 games, with each team only playing each other just the once, there is also the Reserve League cup where there are two groups of five teams, winners and runners up going through to the semis.
The game at St Andrews was our youngsters against Burnley’s U20s. Hard game but two late goals from them put a bit of a gloss on the final score 5-1. Max Fiddes scored for us, but not sure if he has actually signed for us. He is an 07 so, not eligible for the under 18s.
Next Tuesday play Formartine Utd in the Challenge Cup/SPFL Trust Trophy, 7:30 at Meadowbank, the winners of that game play the winners of Brechin v Hearts B. Our team will most likely be a mixture of our fringe, Development, Reserve and U18s, much like the teams that played against Dunbar and Berwick Rangers.
Yesterdays CAS under 18s game against St Mirren was taken by Daz and Boozy. Quite a good game, with Hibs eventually getting the lead after 15 mins, Alfie Smith doing well in midfield and threading the ball to Josh Landers who beat the keeper. Saint had a number of chances but our keeper. Had a few good saves. Late in the game we played more long balls as they chased the game, Landers did well to keep their keeper on his toes and was able to feed Clelland who fired from just inside the box to make it two. With only a few minutes remaining Clelland scored from almost the same spot. 0-3, a result that sees us top of the league on goal difference. The Hibs side were without a number of their regulars as they had a couple of out with short term injuries and the rest training with the first team. Next game is against Hamilton on Friday at HTC, evening k/o, this is followed by a game against a hearts on Tuesday at the Oriam.
A number of last seasons U18s have been released, so doing take too much notice of the squad on the official website as it has not been updated.

Not sure of his DOB but in Scotland if you are under 18 on 1st jan you are eligible to play in the under 18 the following season starting July. (In England it is the start of the school year in August for being Under 18). Anyway I get the impression from what I am hearing is that he will not be offered a contract, but I may be wrong.
As for the lower age limit for players, I am not sure if there is one, Josh O’Connor and a few others were playing in the U18 when they were only 14, in fact Josh scored in the youth cup when only 14.

Thanks for the updates, just wish Hibs could upload something after each game, even the goals.
I do agree we need more development games if possible, we can't loan out everyone so these games are great for the likes of Rudi, Jacob, Reuben etc
I'm still wondering what the plan is with Oscar, not really been involved much with the first team, how did he get on yesterday?
I am hearing that Oscar was/is to be loaned out but waiting to find out how long Obita may be out for, not wanting to left without cover.

Ok thanks, I have maybe just been over thinking regarding Oscar, found it strange he was left at home while others went to Spain. I'm sure Jacob even played LWB for 5/10 minutes Vs Bournemouth.

Oscar wouldn’t have had a look in at all if Obita never picked up his injury. Would assume the thinking was he’d be better off playing the couple games with the development team prior to a supposed loan move.
Hope he can get that loan move as I don’t think he’s at the level for the first team at the moment.

I think we are in a transition period, we’re the best youngsters are out on loan, and we are relying on the new inexperienced guys coming through.
We appear , not have any natural or experienced centre half’s, unless mcgregor plays .
We are playing a decent highland League side, so equivalent of a decent lower league side.

I think Ethan would have got ragdolled against big adult centre half's last year. I think he needs to play against adults this year. Brentford should loan him but he'll probably be in youths again. He'll soon be 19 I think at that stage you need to get used to the physical aspects of adult football.
For the same reason Megwa might get less game time than Rudi and Rueben. Defence is physical but you can get away with being thin in mid more. Megwa at least has some experience on loan and have thought he'd go out again this season for longer.
I have been impressed so far with Zaid's pre-season so glad to hear he had a good game apart from maybe being to greedy at times.
he’s a cracking player, I felt in the dortmund game that the turning point was him going off, he was pressing them well from attacking midfield, and when he went off their midfield were able to carry the ball much further forward, pushing us back

Very even first half, Hibs had were a lot more assertive in the second, Josh Landers adjudged to off-side on a number of occasions. We should also of had two penalties in the same move, soft but never the less fules in the box.. Anyway Josh got to the goalline and crossed over the keeper to when wee Deano was awaiting unmarked to have the easiest jobs of nodding home. 77mins. FT 0-1.
The result keeps us top on GD above Celtic.

Am guessing we`ll play under 18s as almost all devt team ( Melkersen , McAllister , Boruc....) will have travelled to Switzerland on Tuesday or will be rested .

A good place and maybe to only place to keep up with scores in the league and the league table is from the Rangers Youth website (not official) https://rfcyouths.wordpress.com/under-18-league-2023-24/
Next game is on Friday at HTC 5pm k/o against Queens Park.(Queens lost 1-3 to Hamilton today).
I might pop down with the cameras as I can't make the game at Motherwell so my only chance for a Hibs fitba fix this week.

Losing 4-3 at half time. A bit disjointed down our left and the keeper looking shaky.

Lost 6-4 no complaints. Could do with a couple of 17yo's in the side to help these young guys.

Well beat. Queen's were pretty good and very confident playing the ball around defence particularly on the astro with some decent wind blowing. Better side won.

I had my browser open and didn't send my message straight away so didn't see your first update.
Thanks for the full time score, agree with that, a very young 18's but they have started not to bad so far.

Dean Clelland is a good finisher.
But it’s a transition season for these young guys, this season.
