View Full Version : Hibs Under 18s/Development Squad 23/24
Big Mo on twitter updated at HT. 2-2 Hibs down to ten men. Landers and Hastie with the two for the Young Hibees.
Edit
It’s now 3-2 Hibs. Landers
Thanks!
So’s Whitaker. Our youngest ever in fact
Seems age isn’t an issue for our new manager if he thinks they’re ready
Playing up front's a tough shift for a kid though. He certainly knows the way to goal however.

I was speaking to a few parents, at the games, and Monty has been watching loads of hibs youth gAmes, from under 11 up to under 18.
The general vibe about the training centre is much more possitive.
Mcgregor, evans, and boozy we’re all giving instructions to the under 18,s last night.
i Didn’t see Monty but he was probably watching the england australia, game on tv at the same time, as hibs players were involved.

Murray Johnstone had very little to do in second half.

Molotnikov and Landers stand out because of their physicality, they were better second half, as was the whole team.
I always think Murray Johnstone in goals looks composed, unfortunately he was just a spectator in the second half, Boruc first half.

I cannot wait to see Jairs reaction when he scores his first goal for the first team.
Thought on Saturday he looked much better - nice play on the wing to beat a man and pick out Youan and then another point he played a Scott Allan esque through ball to Doidge, he also had a couple of really good bits of link up play with Youan. But the most important thing probably, he protected and looked after the ball a lot more.

The goalkeeper is really important in the 4-4-2 formation, when hibs played hamilton recently, i was amazed at the difference between Pawel Boruc first half, and Murray Johnsone second half.
Pawel always seems to stand on the 18 yard box, or further up the field, and tried to intercept through balls, Murray Johnstone kept in the box and was much more traditional.

Monty likes him, as he's had him around the first team for a few weeks and brought him on as a sub in a couple of games.
I notice Josh has been used to playing a couple of years ahead of his actual age in our age group teams for some time, so must have something that sets him apart from his peers.
He’s very strong and physical, for his age , it’s the one thing that sets him apart.
He is extremely fit , and a powerful runner, but still has a lot to learn.
Scores goals for fun at under 18s , when he plays, definitely worth a contract .

This guy knows where the net is. Very powerful for his age. Deserves his new contract and a place in the first team squad. If he keeps working hard he's got a right chance. A Borders lad.

The u18s are back in action on Thursday 16th away to Hamilton with a 7pm k/o. With no first team game this week we will maybe see Josh Landers and Rudi Molotnikov back in the team. Harry Wright was also missing last week due to illness. Rory Whittaker is away with the Scotland u19s so will not be involved with Hibs this week. Jacob MacIntyre is still a couple of weeks away from his return.
The reserves are in action at HTC on Tuesday afternoon against Patrick on the Res League Cup. I think it is a 2pm k/o.
Under 18s play next Friday against St Johnstone in the 4th round of the Youth Cup, again at HTC.

He’s been involved in most of the games i’ve been at, so don’t think he’s been injured, he played in the last game at under 18 against st johnstone. and scored a great goal, he is still very young, but he really isn’t standing out above any of the others .
Jacob mcintyre has been out for quite a while with an injury, he plays for scotland, and looks a much better prospect ,in my opinion.

Reuben Macalister has been playing in all U18s and Reserve games and has been doing well, really coming on to his game, he scored against Saints Johnstone last week.
Jacob MacIntyre is back running but unlikely to feature before the winter break, he has a screw fitted into his foot after breaking his metatarsal.
Owen Hastie could be out for a few weeks with a back injury.
Also I was hearing that Murray Aiken (on lone at Airdrie) could be out for some time, not sure what his injury is but they were talking about a plate being fitted, does not sound too good.

With whittaker , molotnikov, and landers ,in the full squad recently, and many under 18 games on friday nights, the under 18s might struggle to get results this season.
But this is what the youth set up is really about, finding future players that can move up.
I’m absolutely delighted, the way monty has shown there is a pathway into the first team.

Sub Dean Cleland got the second in stoppage time, it was a square pass from Rudi Molotnivok but just as Rudi crossed it, the floodlights failed. (Saying floodlights, it was more like their Christmas fairy lights). Also their artificial pitch is over ten years old and not in the best condition, it is getting replaced next year.
As an aside, Queen’s budget for their development set-up is more than they spend on their first team.

Just an update on Friday nights game, Hibs took the lead on 2 mins, a great strike from Jamie McMurdo, Hibs has most of the pressure for the remains of that half but Gers did play their part. 2nd half, Curtis equalised with some good interplay. On just over the hour mark Harry Wright did well to cross into the box where 15 year old left back Lewis Gillie headed home. This was Lewis’s second game in the U18s, he had played in the bounce game against Dundee the previous week. It looks like we have another two fullbacks that have has a good showing at this level, Lewis and right back 14 year old Arron McSporran.
it was also good to see Jacob McIntyre back playing after 4months out with injury, it looks like he is back to where he left off.
I was a bit surprised that Rangers were not as good as their league position suggests.

He did, he has done well moving up the field.
Harry was the normal right back, but with Rory Whittaker breaking into the U18s, Harry moved further forward, he was even played up front. But he is looking good in left midfield.
I was hearing that Gareth and other were talking to parents and kids looking to join the academy at U10s etc. they pointed out that we had a 14 y/o playing for the U18s and he was in the team because the normal player in that position was a 16 year old and he was playing for the first team against Aberdeen that same day. Is there a reserve game at HTC tomorrow if yes, then what time.
I think the under 18s are playing away at Ayr as well .
Just been told that the next under 18,s game is away to Dundee United on Friday.

Never seen a senior player try as hard as Harry McKirdy for reserves, he just can’t seem to score a goal, he cut a frustrated figure at the end.
Not through lack of effort, he put in a good shift.

I have a feeling (maybe more of a hope right now) that once McKirdy finds his shooting boots he will go on to make a decent contribution to the squad.

He has energy and effort that’s never been in question
But if Landers gets a hatrick and Mckirfldy can’t even score a pen it’s not looking good fir him re producing the goods in the first team

We've already a couple of guys in the first team squad who are quite adept at missing penalties. Maybe there's hope for Mckirdy yet. 👍

Anyone can miss a penalty, ask Messi, Ronaldo or even Shankland. 😀 It's really not an accurate barometer of their ability.

Against Hamburg I’m sure, the game we had 3 goals disallowed for offside cause their goalie wore a green top. Knocked out on away goals after a 2-1 win

Remember being at that game as a kid. Was mental a few bottles thrown by unhappy Hibs fans from what I remember. Uwe Seeler played and scored.

Aye..Seeler had a special boot made to enable him to play as he had a heel injury and the boot somehow cushioned it.
Mind being at the Dunbar end that night……dunno why 🤷*♂️

Had a bad metatarsal injury but he’s back and doing what he’s best at.

Has played up his years for a long time. Highly rated and a Hibs player to be proud of at international level. Not often we can say that when we look at the youth groups.

Great prospect, Jacob McIntyre there are not too many under 18 games left this season, and he’s missed a fair few.
A loan would seem a good option, as he’s not getting near the first team squad , with all these signings, and injured players coming back.
