By the time we kick off on Sunday, we’ll know where we sit in the table
We can’t go with the same team as last week, so what does LJ do?
This isn’t an easy game, as United are fighting for their lives
Think we’ve sold a lot of tickets for this game
Defeat is unthinkable, and would put pressure on us for the last 2 pre split matches

I’d be giving Myko game time as we need him to start in the derby. Need to play 2 upfront in both games. DU leak goals so we have to go at them.
Imagine Newell will come back in to the starting 11 too

A day before the game and this thread has barely moved.
What’s happened on here recently? The chat seems to have dried up a lot.
Threads move more slowly, and less and less of them talk about the here and now with Hibs. Instead we’ve a lot more ‘historical’ type threads. Favourite past players, best passer, best header etc etc.
This isn’t a criticism of anyone or anything, just an observation.
It feels like there is far less interest leading up to our matches then at any time I can think of, but then the crowds at ER are actually up come match day.
Is the forum quieter in general than previous seasons, or is my post here just nonsense with nobody else thinking similar?!

Jeggo
Campbell

Tavares
Nisbet
Youan
As I said on another thread there were a few flashes in sub appearances that Tavares offers something. His cameo against Hearts in the cup was decent and showed both a bit of confidence and skill. He will offer more than McKirdy imo. Miller was very unlucky to drop out last week after his efforts at Celtic Park although I get why it happened. It we go back to 4 at the back I'd bring him back in. Newell simply has to start. People can argue that it doesn't say much about our squad or whatever but he's out most complete midfielder by a fair distance.
I think if we do go with that shape then it's more likely we will see either McKirdy or Henderson but I'd prefer to try something a wee bit different. We know the ceiling of the latter and the former has showed little.
Fwiw I think Johnson will try to get both Nisbet and Myko in the team team so it will be a different shape altogether.

I’ve probably been on here as much as ever (bad addictive habits with my mobile phone or seeking distraction when working on my laptop) but it’s been a season that’s been so hard to get excited about. I just had a look back at our results as I couldn’t remember - last game I was at was the Killie game in February which was only the second game I’d been at this year. Taking into consideration the WC etc I’ve been to very little football since October and I probably won’t be renewing next season. I’m playing my first game of golf since October when we’re at United tomorrow.
It’s just been stop start rubbish, the team feels like it’s in it’s umpteenth transition season and going nowhere. This is only partly true as European qualification is always a huge carrot for me and it’s hugely achievable but mostly I’ve just fallen out the habit.

I think you’re pretty spot on here. Feels bold to be dropping Egan Riley (and I might have him in for Jeggo in your team) but I don’t think we can fit all our best players into a team without having to play a really wonky formation or players out of position.
Only other change I might consider would be Myko in for Nisbet. Nisbet’s a better finisher but early season Myko was better at linking the play and is the best, I think, at being that focal point striker although there’s not much in it.

Same 11 players but I would go 4/2/3/1 with Jeggo and Newell together, Cadden and Youan wide right and left respectively and Campbell as the number 10.
I think we should stick with this shape and player selection for the remainder of the season.
It is imperative that we win a European spot for next season and continuity of shape and players would help achieve this. It is the wrong time of the season for introducing players because “they need minutes in their legs”. Players like McKirdy, Henderson, Hoppe etc should be on the bench and introduced to replace injured players.

It’s been 3 years of this
1st full season under Jack Ross, we got 3rd and a cup final, but the fans didn’t get in
Last season only a few highlights, inc beating Rangers at Hampden
This season pumped out both cups at the beginning. Probably beating the Dons 6-0 being the best, but many lows

We're often pretty obliging when our opponents need points desperately so this has the makings of a 1-0 United win. Particularly if our pathetic performance last week isn't improved upon.

The crowds are up on match days but how many are actually enjoying themselves. Look around on match days and everybody looks miserable. I am certainly not enjoying games as much...maybe an age thing😀. Team I would like to see and will be interesting to see the line up after last week.
Bit harsh to drop Campbell after a good season but after last week he could have no complaints if that does happen.
I think Cadden will start over Miller and we don't have much options out wide on the right so stuck McKirdy in there.
Hopefully Laidlaw or O'Connor feature and I can't see Oscar starting.

Motherwell hadn’t won at home minus 1 game this season. We were up next and tipped to fail. We won.
The sheep hadn’t won away since October, had shipped 5 to Hearts, been beaten by a team I hadn’t heard of and had hibs next. We won 6-0.
Despite all these prophecies, there are two recent examples of Hibs not giving out gifts to those in turmoil.

Hearts lose 2 games in a row to utter codswallop, surely to god we can't do the same, players need to go out there and take advantage, last week was bad enough, we are playing the team rooted to the bottom of the league. Get the 3 points! And again next week, are we a winners or a bunch of losers? Tomorrow will go a long way to deciding that.

I was thinking this also. We play a team that's bottom of the league followed by a game against a team that's lost 6 out of the last 7 in the league. We really should expect a minimum of 4 points from 6 available. I personally don't think Johnson is the answer but hoping that he proves me wrong between now and the end of the season.

Solid defence with the 2 I’d midfield doing all the work. I don’t think the midfield will get loads of the ball today so get them on the back foot and make the team who are bottom and struggling for confidence defend
Realistically it’s a bit too open and will probably be more like

This has the feel of a really big game for us given yesterday’s results.
Bit of a litmus test for Johnson really, one which he needs to pass IMO. Bombing out of both cups so early gave us relatively little to play for this season, but that could change significantly if we manage to spin a couple of wins in a row.
Hopefully the run starts today. Mon eh Hibees.

I'm really not buying into the whole 'Uniter are fighting for the lives' narrative.
It's true but it's been true for weeks and they still haven't managed a win and have barely mustered a performance of note. On paper they are a decent enough side, in practice they have been horrible for most of the season. We have our own fight today, it's not some dead rubber for us against a team with all to play for. You could maybe accept getting outfought in such a situation but that isn't the case so really their predicament is of no consequence and no excuse.
It's a game we need to win and one we should be winning. If Kilmarnock, Ross County, St Johnstone, Aberdeen and even Hearts can beat them in recent weeks then so can we.

This has Jim Goodman's redemption written all over it. We've put 6 past Aberdeen and even with hearts floundering have missed countless chances this season to cement a place in third.

To win this game, two things have to happen: Johnson has to get the team selection, formation and tactics right; and the players have to deliver when the chips are down. I am worried on both counts, but we’ll soon find out.

Watched highlights of them at Ibrox last week looked like they were well organised and had a threat on the break. What is sure though is that their goalie Birigitti is awful and we should be shooting on sight if he plays.
Myko was our best player at times earlier in season before his injury.
He needs to start.
Have been disappointed, and surprised, not to see more of him since he came on at Livi and scored.

We need a win today - going into the game next week knowing a win would take us above them would be huge.
Realistically given our performances in the tougher fixtures and venues this season, I think we need a minimum 7pts form 9 before the split to be in the 3rd 4th mix.

Yeah 7 minimum before the split just to keep in touch with teams above I reckon.

Didn’t think Egan-Riley was as assured playing in the three last week so it will be interesting to see how he gets on in the two with Fish. Not ideal going into it with a new partnership but very few options.
McKirdy has to show us something today. At least with Nisbet and Youan in the team the goals shouldn’t be far away.

What makes me nervous about that team is crosses to the back post.
I think when Hanlon and Cabraja have been paired together we’ve conceded a few goals at the back post and between them, so I half assume it’s maybe down to Cabraja’s concentration/positioning/communication.
CJ will need to be on his game and aware of Cabraja and make sure he’s organised to prevent it.
I expect Fletcher to target that area for crosses and attack them.

Devlin on the bench who although may not have started yet would at least add some experience. Ditto Stevenson who could add extra experience to the back line.
Lots of chopping and changing and little consistency week to week.

Miller done nothing to deserve being dropped after his performance at Parkhead, with most that attended the game saying he was potentially Hibs Motm.
I'd have played him in place of Cadden today for his height at defensive set play, especially with the loss of Hanlon.

Surely playing Devlin who hasn’t played a minute and hardly a game this season would be more of ‘selection bingo’ than CJ who has played every game since he joined.
Stevenson and Cabraja have rotated all season so no massive change there

Absolutely. Extra height with Hanlon missing.
Got to feel sorry for him. Waiting for a chance, gets in at Parkhead of all places. Turns out a solid performance even with 10 men. Given a chance and takes it - dropped immediately. The man that comes in for him turns in a stinker - keeps his place next game. He must be frustrated

Top 6 and Johnson's tenure at Hibs culminates in this game against the bottom side who have not won in 10 games.

Which Hibs manager hasn’t suffered an embarrassing defeat to Hearts? If that’s what your judging managers on then we haven’t had a single decent manager in my lifetime.
The merry go round of management is proving not to work.
It likely to be his League Cup games and his SPFL record W12 L16 (currently) that will see him rightfully punted.

Newell and Campbell look lost out there, Johnson needs to change things now.

This place is mad eh? 17 minutes on the clock and folk getting all excited we’re getting beat.
Mad that he’s been getting so much game time all season, unreal the amount to goals we concede from our right hand side.
Mad though

Fletcher has about 3 different haircuts on the go at the same time. Each worse than the previous one.

Refs having a shocker.
For all the possession we have no drive from midfield. It's all hopeful lobs forward as usual
Said the sane earlier, all too predictable.

We were good while Newell was injured. Less so now. Probably a coincidence.

Cadden must be the worst crosser of the ball in the country.
Jeggo deserved a booking.

Hibs build up play is far too slow, it all needs to be much much quicker.

Cadden is so poor at crossing, it invariably hits the defender most times.
McKirdy just runs into the middle of 3 United players and surprisingly loses the ball ffs.
It’s a clear yellow
Yep but there was two others which Walsh has missed.
Him and Beaton are a joke.

But, but we have had 72% possession. Johnson wants to be us a possession based side and he has his wish.

This is exactly like the disjointed football that we seen on that horrific run of form.
Need to make the possession count.
