If the price of a ticket is so important to you why not support hearts or a junior team?

What a daft reply.

Really? Over 80% off season ticket holders who were happy to support the club with no prospect of attending games have said no to this one. That’s a strong message to Ron Gordon that we aren’t just here to ‘pony up.’

Pony up? Cheap shot I don’t expect from you sir.

You’d think Hibs were a charity and not a business who’s lost a considerable amount of money in the last 18 months and had to take on various government loans to get through a pandemic. Then we all moan about signing players from Hamilton and St Mirren.

Nobody is asking for charity or free tickets. They are asking for an explanation to why the price of a ticket for a pre-season friendly against Premier League opposition has increased by 73% in 2 years.

The suggested reason of covering extra stewarding costs with a lower attendance doesn’t stand up to much scrutiny when Hearts are playing in the same city with the same attendance constraints on the same weekend and charging significantly less than us.

If the extra cost is associated with having to pay Arsenal a a large fee then questions need to be asked about why the club agreed to such an arrangement when it was always highly likely there would be restrictions placed on the number of people who could attend.

Let’s assume then that both teams need all match day income from their fans to cover the costs of the game as is being suggested here.

Hibs: 2000 tickets x £26 = £52,000

Hearts: 2000 tickets x £10 = £20,000 -> half to Cove = £10,000

Are we really suggesting that it is costing Hibs 5 times as much to host a preseason friendly as it costing Hearts to host a competitive League Cup tie in the same city on the same day?

*Assumption made that both teams will have roughly similar numbers of concessions. Taking concession prices into account would actually make this difference even wider.

Assumption without something to back it ups still a best guess. If your not going your not getting fleeced if you are going you’ve decided it’s a worthwhile price to pay so your getting fleeced either.

Hibs friendly against Newcastle few seasons ago brought £150-200k in receipts. The Arsenal match will bring in £52k. Take off the VAT (£8,700), stewarding, cleaning & other costs & Arsenal's payment/share (they will be getting one) then there won't be much leftover.

Hibs will have lost a packet over the past 18 months. It would have been far worse without the goodwill and financial support of the fans, but Ron will currently be propping up the club as we look to strengthen the squad.

£26 is too much, there's no doubt about it, but 2k people have bitten the bullet and paid it.

The situation isn't ideal for anyone, neither the club nor the fans, but we're not living in normal times.

Do all suppliers provide explanations to their pricing policy? I think the reason is pretty obvious. Such a glamorous game would normally be a big money spinner. Unfortunately that’s not the case just now.

Why are we assuming we’re paying Arsenal? Is it just because a couple of people on here have said so?

You could easily argue that they needed someone to play and we agreed to, for a fee!

You really think Arsenal need a few grand off us? I don’t buy that at all. A training camp in Europe would have cost them six figures.

Much more likely that no fee went either way.

Charging fans is simply to recoup costs. It would have been cheaper if we got the 6000 in that we wanted.

MKHIBEE

There’s no way Hibs are selling more concessions than Hearts at those prices. A concession ticket for the Arsenal game is more expensive than we charged for an Adult ticket to the Newcastle friendly 2 years ago 🤣🤣

Here’s a fact for you, it costs the parent of a Hibs supporting child more than 3 times as much as what it costs the parent of a Hearts supporting child to take them to a match in Edinburgh this weekend.

Here's another fact. No one is forced to pay the prices asked, whether its to watch Hibs or Hearts this weekend. I accept that £26 for a pre season friendly is steep. However, if Hibs are intending the gate receipts to finance the game then it means all the season ticket money thousands of us gave to the club last season and this can be used on more important issues.

Arsenal are 100% taking in some money from this game, i can’t go into specifics but they will. That’s from Hibs, straight from the horse’s mouth (I spoke to Greg McEwan for Longbangers, which we’ll discuss on Monday’s episode.)

They usually ask teams for a fairly big fee to play them, in this case we’re not due them a fee (i.e. if there’s no money made, they get none) but an arrangement exists.

Apparently charging a fee is standard for the biggest teams.

The Barcelona friendly tickets actually went up to £35 and were considered well overpriced back then too with many season ticket holders choosing not to go. There were similar threads to this one back then too, people were probably even more angry. But lets be honest, even if the Barcelona prices were considered reasonable you are comparing a friendly against a mediocre Premier League team with one against one of greatest teams ever assembled.

Other than on the spectator code of contact, where else did they mention that we were going to be given an allocated time
As the game is over teatime, I’m taking 2 x 14 year olds, I’d like to know what food they will have available to buy

Sorry if I've missed this but is the game free to view on Hibs TV for season ticket holders?

I got this email from Hibs TV this morning:

At present there is no access for season ticket holders as the ticket is not valid until the 1st August.

The season ticket is only active between the first home game and the last home game of the season.

Kind Regards

I had a ST last year and bought one in the first week they were released this season but I do not get access to Hibs TV or the ability to order it on PPV according to the conversation I had with Hibs TV this morning.

If Kieran Power is looking in on this thread, could you feed back to the club that they really need to be getting the allocated times in more time than they have for this fixture? It's a joke - I was happy to pay £26 for a ticket but if I'd known this carry on was going to happen I wouldn't have bothered.
Fine with wearing a mask inside in enclosed areas but sitting outside when distanced should be a matter of preference.

Paying to attend no more games until common sense prevails.

The staggered entry is equally over the top - we can queue when distanced in Tesco but not outside at a football ground.

Honestly not a penny more from me until this nonsense is over

I'm not sure how it's nonsense. You'll still be queueing like you do at Tesco even with the allocated arrival slot. I suspect Tesco don't get 2000 folk all arriving at the front door at the same time. Do you not realise we are still living under restrictions at the moment? It won't be forever. 2000 people won't be turning up at one door all at once. Multiple turnstiles all around the stadium & people will turn up at differing times as usual.

I'm happy to observe common sense restrictions in line with other venues - you don't need to sit with a mask on inside a pub or restaurant never mind outside it.

It's way over the top given the level of risk now that a large percentage of the population has been double vaccinated.

I was at Hampden for a Euro match. The rules were the same there. People were very good at distancing but most, including my some and me I’m ashamed to say, broke the rules and removed our masks when seated. Most people were also good at putting masks on when moving about.

I think Hibs would struggle to get permission, even for the small number permitted, unless they followed the rules. Other clubs will be doing the same or settle for 500 fans.

I don't mind putting it on when moving around - it's pretty normal when indoors but it wouldn't bother me for moving around inside the stadium.

I generally don't mind anything Hibs do but I suppose I've just become one of these people that I shake my head at more or less every day when reading the petty trivia that they find to complain about on fans forums :greengrin

Does anyone know what block west upper turnstile 21-24 Row NN seat 162 is in? What time should I turn up could be tricky with work.

It’s on your email with the Turnstile numbers. 4 to 4.30 or 5 to 5.30. It’s all over Twitter too but I’m not sure how those things circulate

FWIW I agree with you.

I’ve got tickets for the Raith game on Friday but I didn’t even think about all the daft restrictions that could be put in place or I might not have bothered. I know that’s maybe irrational but there you go.

Back to the Arsenal game for a second, anyone any idea of what players will likely be involved for Arsenal? Sorry if it’s been well covered already.

I was thinking it’d be their reserves but still a hell of a strong squad likely to be involved. Quite scary 😂

With us signing Macey and then arranging a friendly against them it strikes me there’s a bit of a relationship being built up there. I wonder if we could get any of their young boys on loan.

Hopefully more Dean Shiels than Boateng though.

I’m actually the opposite. Surprised how few of them I’m actually bothered for seeing keeping in mind there’s nobody hugely exciting missing either. Arsenal are a shadow of the side they used to be individually.

Aubameyang and Lacazette could be interesting but other than that the squad feels very mid to bottom end Premiership!

Speaking as one with an affinity with the Gunners I’m delighted to be getting the opportunity to see them line up against the Hibs, testing as it’s all been. I’ll even buy a half and half scarf if there’s anyone bothered merching them (doubtful I know).

There’s plenty genuine talent in that squad. I’m still not 100% convinced on Arteta but another 2 or 3 quality players in the right positions and they’ll be challenging at the top again.

My grump isn't with the added covid procedures as such but rather Hibs seem to make everything as difficult/confusing as possible.

Not explicitly stating there would be entry slots when the tickets went on sale (hidden in the covid rules)
Not actually stating what the entry slots are until after 5pm the day before
Referring to blocks for the entry slots when the tickets only state turnstile numbers
Stating that ID must match the name on the ticket - I assigned one to my dad and this was confirmed in the confirmation email yet the print off tickets only show my name and the e-ticket show none at all
Stating the total cost of the transaction on both tickets, creating doubt whether I've been double charged
Covid rules stating upper tier food kiosks closed/lower tier open but its not actually the case.
