Maybe a white collar would have been preferable if I was being really picky but the idea and the execution is pretty spot on imo.

The only thing letting it down in regards to being a stone cold Hibs classic is the collar. It should be white. Other than that it’s perfect.
Hope all those that were greeting on social media cause we’ve had the audacity no to have a swoosh or 3 stripes are happy
Ps what colour are the socks, dying to know :greengrin

Wonder what the idea behind the thistle was
Is the thistle not intrinsically linked to Edinburgh. Is the myth/legend that an invader stood on a thistle while sneaking up to the castle and alerted the castle holders to their presence? Or it could just be a Scottish symbol on a Scottish clubs strip? They never said on the article on the official site though.

Bottle green or black it's not for me. Just too busy. Like the sleeves and the thistle bit at the back.
Hopefully it's a grower or looks better in person.
The thistle looks a bit like our old badge with the purple bits replacing the crown.

I'm interested to hear the idea behind the thistle too (though it doesn't bother me).
Given the choice I wouldn't have the map thing, but it'll probably grow on me (it's infinitely better than the spidey pattern on the Macron training gear).
I look forward to seeing the whole strip to get an idea of the ensemble as well as the change strip.

I like it. Its green with white sleeves, it's got a Hibs badge on it and with the city design its unique to Hibs. If we had gone with Adidas, Nike etc we would never have gotten anything like that. Good start from Joma, be interesting what they have planned for the 2nd, 3rd strips

Purely speculation but maybe it's the first of a Hibernian 'theme' to feature on the back of this season's strips?
Home kit - thistle (Scotland)
Away kit - harp (Ireland)
Third kit - a QR code to purchase a Jack Ross style cardigan

Like others a white collar would have been my preference.
And if you are not going pure traditional this is a very acceptable alternative ad will, I’m sure, prove very popular.
I like how the shirt ties into our current marketing slogan of Our City as well. Nice synergy there and maybe a small hint of a slightly more joined up approach in our marketing and engagement.

Hibs are an Edinburgh football club, Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland, the thistle is an emblem of Scotland, therefore a thistle on the back of a a Scottish football club who will be, hopefully, playing a number of games in Europe has a lot to do with hibs.

Doing a complete map overlay on to the current images of folk wearing it would be tricky as you'd need to warp the map image to match parts of the strip that are curved/creased. Once there's a good image of the shirt laid flat it should be doable.
For now it's not too difficult to figure places out just by comparing side-by-side with Google Maps or whatever, particularly once you establish a few obvious landmarks – e.g. the big empty squares above the J are the Botanics/Inverleith Park, big area under the Utilita house is Arthur's Seat/Holyrood Park, Waverley is easy to spot etc. Probably a pain on a phone mind.

But the point of football club identity - and branding - is to differentiate, to stand out, to assert what makes your club different to the rest.
Picking an emblem with no previous attachment, that is literally the name of some other clubs we compete with, on the flimsy pretext, the same flimsy pretext that could apply to all our competitor clubs is just odd.
We have 3 emblems already, adding a 4th for no reason seems pointless and manufactured.
Its a Hibs strip ffs, not a Scotland strip, or an Edinburgh Thistle strip.

Just something related to Hibs would do.

Took delivery of two similar tops today. The 1965-72 top and the 1972 Scottish Cup Final top. I’ll be wearing these to ER next season.
I’m not a fan of the new top. Far too busy between the street map and the fade.

Would it be possible for some clever clogs to match up the strip to a street map so we can tell exactly what is on it. Figured parts out I think.
Given this was one of the first posts I presume it will be pretty close to this (https://www.facebook.com/HibernianFootballClubOfficial/photos/a.549882081777524/3935476753218023/)

Don't like the thistle. Not Hibernian.
If anything it should be a shamrock or harp. But that aside, it's a jolly decent kit.

I'm sorry but in this day and age, the shamrock clearly represents a different club. I'd be raging if it were on our kit
Why are people getting pissed over a thistle. We are a scottish club.

Well if we're gonna go down the road of the thistle being on our kit in the 50s then I'm afaird there were shamrocks shrouding the harp right outside our stadium of the same era. Fact.
We are a Scottish club with Irish routes. We recognise that with a harp on our club crest. That’s plenty.
We have a thistle on the kit this year, I don’t know if qualifying for the euros has anything to do with it but that’s my suspicion.

My memory might be failing but the badge on the 1960’s scarf I had was quartered. I’m pretty sure it was castle, harp, thistle and ball but I do stand to be corrected
Absolutely. I own one still and will dig it out shortly.

No but we are a scottish club not an Irish club. Celtic have a shamrock on their badge.

When the current crest/badge was designed there was originally a fourth element. I think it was maybe a football but might have been a thistle - I honestly can't remember.
The Lord Lyon was consulted and the club were told that this wouldn't be appropriate as a 4 part/quartered crest normally represents a joining of 2 families or entities.
Thus the 4th thing was binned and we ended up with the Harp, Castle & Boat.

Is this not just yet another mountain out of a molehill situation where a few extreme views are being projected as somehow being representative of more than 1 or 2 people?
A question was asked about the thistle. I wondered about it as well because it's not something I'd seen on a Hibs strip before. Not because I have any great issue with a Scottish emblem on our shirts, not because I love Celtic and want a man in a balaclava holding an AK47 on our shirt. Just because in my lifetime it's new and different. A few people more knowledgeable than me have advised there is historical precedent for it so I've learned something. Great, I know something I didn't know this morning and it's a smart addition to our shirt.
No big deal really and I'm sure the vast, vast majority of people who were curious about it feel the same way.

Have to see it in the flesh before I buy it to play walking football in ...... I have so many Hbs tops I might hold off to see what the 2nd & 3rd strips look like coz even I get fed up playing in green all the time ... a nice white top would be good.
As for the thistle ... nice touch, I love it :aok:

No it doesn't. Celtic badge is a four leaf clover, not a shamrock. Shamrock is three leaves, a symbol of Ireland and absolutely nothing to do with Celtic.

Belter of a kit, actually quite like the thistle as well. Smart and nice to have something bespoke with personal touches.
I've never understood this whole 'different club in this day and age' thing regarding our Irish roots. Why can't we equally be as proud of our historic roots as our core Scottish identity today?
I think something like a shamrock would have been just as appropriate on the back of the kit as the thistle is - a nod to the early years of our history and a nod to the very folk who founded our club through hardship and impoverishment. Our clubs name is literally an archaic Latin term for Ireland!

I dont want a Celtic badge on the Hibs top, but nor do i want ICT or Partick Thistle badge on a Hibs top.
I want a Hibs top to represent the Hibs club and community, which could, and should have been done by using the ship or the harp. Both are valid, and either will be more or less important to different fans, and thats ok. That is a discourse that has been going on among the Hibs support, and illustrates the difficult and complex identity Hibs have.
Adding another random symbol, which is literally the club crest of at least two other league clubs, is bizarre and odd. Hibs are going to be playing with the Partick Thistle or ICT badge on the back of the shirts, and that is just weird.
Clubs, and branding is supposed to differentiate, so stealing someone else's badge to randomly add to Hibs shirt is even more bizarre.
Ask 10,000 Hibs fans, or fans of any other club in Scotland for emblems they associate with Hibs, and i doubt any would have said a thistle.
Hibs went years of having *****y, meaningless, thoughtless crests, all because someone decided to drop the original crest, the one that the clubs founders chose. For the first time since then, Hibs have something of which the fans (or most fans) are pleased and proud. So use that, not Partick or ICTs badge.

I'd ask 10000 hibs fans as I wouldn't give a toss about the rest. They'd likely say harp, ship, and castle. These are all represented as the Crest hasn't changed.
Your call for another ship doesn't make sense. Or another harp? Are we going for an armada or an orchestra here? They are already represented front and centre and we don't need the overkill.
As it is they've dug out a thistle from somewhere. Either used officially or unofficially. But used. Representative of Scotland and not the sole preserve of Inverness or Partick. They've ran with it so that is that.
If they had changed the actual crest again I'd get the fuss.

Agree entirely. It took us decades to get the Harp back and fiddling with more symbols now, I agree, is bizarre. Unfortunately I think that disconnect is apparent when you see how we approach twitter (discussed elsewhere) and basically most things that link club to fan. A harp, castle or ship in that stitching then we would have been as proud as last years NHS triumphalism. A thistle? Nah.

Going to reserve judgement on the new home strip until I see it in the flesh. It's a bold attempt at doing something different and hopefully it will be a good seller and make the club some decent cash.
On the inclusion of the thistle, it's no big deal but my first impression was that it is a bit gimmicky and not an emblem I would associate with Hibs. I would prefer Hibernian emblems to more accurately reflect the club's heritage which is much more diverse than purely being a Scottish football club.

Of course our heritage is a lot more than being a Scottish football team.
But we play in green and white to show our Irish heritage, have the harp, castle and ship on our badge to symbolise our Irish, Edinburgh and Leith heritage.
So why not add a small thistle, an undeniable symbol of Scotland, to show our Scottish heritage?
Totally harmless and a nice touch in my opinion.
