View Full Version : Match Updates St Johnstone 3 v Hibs 0
He’s been ‘coming back’ from this injury since he signed for us.
He’s been an utterly crap signing so far. A total waste of money who has shown nothing so far to justify the risk taken in signing him.
Think we signed him cos we never got McCrorie and JR didn’t want to lose out again on a player with talent which we won’t really see till next season
WhileTheChief..

The guy was questing the starting 11. I don't think our starting 11 was the issue
It was the knee jerk reaction to 2-0

Agreed.
I generally still like JR but he hasn’t got a damn clue when it come to subs. He makes things worse every single time and hasn’t learnt a thing.

Our set pieces are shocking, 2 good set pieces from ST Johnstone which were defended really poorly and the game was gone. We huffed and puffed the whole game and never looked like scoring, even from 6 yards out. Really frustrating and disappointing performance
We on the other hand must be the least clinical side in the league. How many games do we dominate early, carve out a barrowload of chances, fail to convert any of them then concede with the opposition's first attempt. Heads go down and don`t threaten to score again.
In the end the 3-0 win didn`t flatter St Johnstone. The better, more clinical side won comfortably on the day

Ross should be more concerned about the owner backing him ..
Can't see him putting up with this pish any longer.
Don't think Hibs owner has got a clue what's acceptable for the 1st team. He'll put up with whatever Hibs fans will put up with, and that's all about ticket sale. Jack Ross and the Hibs players can be thankful there are no fans at these matches. The myth about anxiety and pressure coming down from the stands affecting these Hibs snowflakes is well and truly dead. I don't want to hear that ever repeated again.
No ambition, no drive, no spine, no ambition, no pride. A disparate collection of well paid non-achievers at Hibs, managed by someone who's unable to motivate and organise properly for games that really matter.
Under the circumstances, will go down as one of the worst Hibs results at Hampden, and that's saying something.

Ross says he's angry, you'd hardly believe it the way he spoke, monotone voice all the way through, I'm still to see any passion from him. If he's angry come on tv and look frigging angry and call the players out for being bottle merchants instead of just saying they need to show more guts and drive to win.

Glad you aren't the manager, no matter what level you ay at you will almost never keep the same 11 every single week
There will be changes for injuries, suspensions etc. but generally when teams get to a semi final the fans will be able to tell you the strongest 11 and the shape of the team.
No one had any idea of the team today, even when it was announced there was no certainty as to how we would shape up!
I'm not for him to go, he took over a crap team and has us going in the right direction. I think we need to see a more consistency in selection to help the players who are well off form just now though.

This team has a lot of decent attacking players that would suit Stubbs down to the ground.
We would be watching better football, played to a more coherent pattern and we'd be getting more out of the players we already have. Leaders come in all shapes and sizes, some shout and are openly passionate while others don't need to be because their manner conveys an authority and authenticity. I'm afraid that Jack Ross comes across as someone who is either guessing as he goes or or who has already topped out and is as good a manager as he's ever going to be. Either way he simply isn't convincing and I find it hard to believe that this isn't spilling over into the players. Those two major games lost so softly, with a whimper really, tell the story.

Is the whole point not that the club's whole new ethos first under Leeann Dempster when she arrived, which was then allegedly ramped up when Ron Gordon took over the club, that this attitude wasn't acceptable any more?
That a history of failure in big matches, not to mention utter capitulation in some, couldn't be used as an explanation for the failure of players and managers who had nothing to do with previous historical cock ups and certainly not as a defence of the latest one.
As a club a failure like this has to be unacceptable ... if it isn't we will never progress to the next level, especially when it comes on the back of yet another failure against our bitter rivals at the arse end of a competition.

I don't mind seeing a manger showing anger when his team have performed like that, I never once called Lennon out for it, my biggest grip with him was his lotto team selections and when his team got beat he blamed them, threw them under the bus is the expression used. It was Lennon's 2nd season that turned me off him, I've given Ross every chance to make me believe he's the right man, yes we're 3rd in the league and tbh we should be either 3rd or 4th given our budget, he's continually lost important games like the Hearts semi, against Aberdeen and now this one, add in the abject performances since christmas and I'd say his time is up.
I see no passion from him, everything is all well thought out before he speaks, I see nothing from him on the touchline either, no geeing players on, no remonstrating with them to get their fingers out nothing, he stands there hands in pockets expressionless, enough already.

Well said!

Win rates of the last six managers.
Pat Fenlon - 31 in 87 (36%)
Terry Burcher - 6 in 29 (21%)
Alan Stubbs - 59 in 100 (59%)
Neil Lennon - 59 in 123 (18%)
Paul Heckingbottom- 11 in 32 (34%)
Jack Ross - 27 in 54 (50%)
You’ve made a pigs ear of Lennons :greengrin
So Stubbs had a better win rate, a much better PPG, played much better football, signed much better players and won us the cup.
I know who I’d rather have.

Strange, mine took me through a couple of options and then lastly to confirm the cancellation, hopefully you get it sorted
Just double checked mine to make sure! Definitely cancelled as it gives an option to stop the cancellation if I want.

Was the term "Hibsed it" coined under Alan Stubbs?

Hibs the whole season has been mediocre ,the style of football not great ,signing's underwhelming (Nisbit aside) and lack of consistency.
Hoof defence diagonal balls and no central play is not great stuff to watch.
I hear Alan Stubbs comeback mentioned were I can agree during his tour we were ten times the team we are now.
If he was to come back and repeat that success is the question, i think he could given the chance.

Alan Stubbs has a 58% win rate at hibs although exclusively in the championship
I mind back in they days constant moaning at his tippy tappy, side to side football
Underwhelmed if hibs go for him
I never understand why this board always looks at ex players and managers - baffling

John Mcginn was a huge factor in Stubbs and Lennons teams that skewed the perception of the manager’s ability. As a player when on form he can lift Villa up the premier league. He did that for us.

I’m not joining any bandwagon here, but SJM joined us in Stubbs’ 2nd season, just as Scott Allan left. The style of football was already established before SJM arrived and survived Scotty’s departure.

Stubbs at least could beat Aberdeen and Hearts in the League Cup and Scottish Cup.
But lost to Falkirk in a semi where we would’ve played Inverness in the final, lost a final to Ross county, lost a play off to Falkirk, lost a play off against the worst Rangers side of my lifetime.

so much for "the pitch at hampden will suit our players" claims by some, just proves this team can be p@sh on any surface

At least had a go and played with flair. Tonight just hoof ball.

Bad choices in the initial line up. Macey should have started. Cadden not fit, Halberg should have been on.
The substitutions reflect the poor choices and were bizarre. Allen and Mcgennis haven't kicked a ball. The shape completely went, players looked clueless
This was never going to be an easy tie but to play like it was a training match in the second half was unforgiveable
Spot on

I’d say we had a right go in the first half tonight. The players then effectively gave up when they couldn’t score. We had more possession and shots on target today than we had in the Falkirk semi. Zero difference apart from playing a far *****r team back then.

Consistently when things don't go our way we don't same able to switch to a remotely successful plan B. When things go wrong they stay wrong.

In St Johnstone's last 12 matches against top flight opposition, they have been in the lead in 5 of them in which they have failed to go on and win. I had hoped when it went to 1-0 that we would take advantage of this vulnerability but as soon as it went to 1-0 we just collapsed and rarely looked like scoring after that.

After going behind we never looked like getting back into it. Completely shat the bed and hid for the remaining 60 minutes,.

Keep Porteous make him or anybody else Captain and drop Hanlon.
I'm sure getting Ryan into the office for a bollocking/pep talk then have him walk out the office as our new captain would work wonders for him and the team.

only thing you got right there was we had a go ,then no response once they scored . Completely no back bone no plan B. I doubt that in any of the Falkirk semis we had less possession and played 90mins. Stubbsy teams completely controlled midfield . 2 seasons great to watch football. Tonight was just horrible. BTW he did also win a cup.

We've been ***** for months. Anyone who has watched us would agree we've been ***** for months. I said this after the Hearts debacle and got shot down. How the **** we are so high up the table is beyond me. This result is not a surprise for me we have ridden our luck so many times and got results being *****. Tonight we got found out again ***** defending ***** in front of goal.
We are *****.

He won't be here next season anyway.

Only reason was due to the good start and the other teams playing catch up in my eyes, the football all season has been awful and now we are seeing where we really are as a team as no chance we will finish 3rd or 4th this season.

You might want to check then as we had more possession yesterday than we did in that semi against Falkirk. They may have controlled the midfield however they were still soft as ****. Peter Houston out thought Stubbs time after time after time. He’s no had a job since he lasted about a month at both st mirren and Rotherham.
