Listening to people moaning about tourists as if they immediately immerse themselves in the local culture, language and laws prior to spending 2 days visiting somewhere abroad. :faf:
Or folk who are themselves abroad on holiday bumping their gums about how busy and touristy such as such a place is as if their holiday is operating on some elevated celestial plane soaring above the riff raff

Winning an argument without your spouse.
I have just won one over white dog poo. I asked “why do you never see white dog poo like you did in the 80s/90s. My wife was adamant that I was making this up. A quick google both answered my question and provides written and photographic proof that white dog did indeed exist.
(The answer for anyone wondering was dogs’ diet consisted more of more calcium in it back then (usually in the form of crushed up bones which wasn’t fully digested and would come out in the poo and turn it white)

Coming home from work last night and seeing my laddie and about ten of his pals playing football in the local park, was great to see that there is life outside ipads and PlayStation, apparently they had been there all day.

:agree: The only time my now 14 year old would leave the house was for football training 3 times a week, a game at the weekend and to go to school. I tried to encourage him to take up golf (we've got a golf course 200m from our house) but the more I tried to encourage him the more he rebelled against the idea and eventually I just gave up. About 3 months ago he just woke up one morning and decided he wanted to be good at golf and every free moment he now has he's either on the driving range or out on the course. I barely see him nowadays but like you it gave me great pleasure to know he's outside in the fresh air.

Tonight I saw someone say that the Isle of Wight looks like Englands scrotum, the fact that I absolutely see what they meant has made my evening. I’ll never be able to look at a map of the UK again without seeing Englands dangling plooms.

Some songs are just so good that they give you a euphoric feeling better than any drug I’ve sampled. For me, Bohemian Rhapsody, Hey Jude, There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, Live Forever, 505 and American Pie are the examples that immediately spring to mind. Unbelievable.

Yeah Im the same when the Commodores “ Easy Like Sunday Morning” comes on, just feel I want to chill the **** out with a nice coffee, send the Wife out all day so I can get peace
However in reality its more like “Dead Cities” from the Exploited with my Wife clunking and clanking around the living room with the hoover and then dusting whilst at the same time moaning her tits off

A pint in the pub before midday. Same setting, same pint, same price but it just hits different. Will be enjoying such a pleasure in about 90 minutes time.
Also, and I'm certain I will have said this before, a pint alone. I've often timed my arrival when meeting someone so I am 20-30 minutes early and can get a pint on my own first.

Difficult to describe but probably a similar feeling to having your first pint in the airport when ready for 10 days of wall to wall sunshine

Absolutely agreed on the latter point. I'm lucky enough to live about 200m from my local and once the kids are in bed and assuming the wife has her nose in a book or whatever, I'll take the bin out and escape for an evening pint or 2 by myself.

I have literally no idea what’s happened to me, but I love getting up at half past five and going for a jog with the dog before the majority of the city has awoken. It’s so nice and quiet and by the time we’re home, it’s time for breakfast and all feels good with the world.
I’d like to say “I used to be cool” but that would be a lie.

I do the same but without the dog and I just walk. There’s something beautiful about it, complete silence as I wander about wearing shorts regardless of the weather (I do have a jacket and beanie hat on as well to balance it out 😂). I then come home, have a coffee, write in my journal and then drive to the gym to do a 5k on the treadmill. Perfect start to my day.

Can understand that. Great to get up and out before roads etc get busy
I like to have the expected fuel range and the trip meter displayed on my car dash, and take pleasure (because I’m sad 🤣) in beating the fuel range. I keep a mental track of the mileage I’ve done vs what the range drops as I’m out and about.
I know it’s only an estimated range, but it makes me feel like I’m winning a bit hahaha

I’ve started a new job and had a busy few weeks getting in to. Tonight I clocked off at 5 with a bit of a headache, the kids were loud and argumentative and all in all it was a stressy environment.
Just spent five minutes in an ice cold shower and feel a million times better. Headache gone, lethargy from the day vanished.

I picked up every infection/bug that was going after I did a half marathon in September. Early January I started ending each shower by turning down the dial and standing under it for 60 seconds and focusing on my breathing. It’s no coincidence that I haven’t been ill once and my mind is much clearer. I recommend cold showers to anyone that will listen.

Going to the gym and actually being methodical about it. I've always been methodical when it comes to running and for a long period kept progressing. However when it came to the gym I would go for a couple of weeks, try loads of stuff, feel like I was getting nowhere and give up then repeat the process a few months later. This time I have a set routine of 4 mornings a week, different target area every day and a core of 5 or 6 exercises per session. For the first couple of weeks you feel like you are going to get bored but then you start to feel the reps getting easier and you can increase the weight, you can feel yourself getting a bit stronger and you can notice little changes to your body shape. Suddenly what threatened to be boring becomes anything but because that consistency is what gets results. It's really motivating.
Also just pottering about prepping food. I can't stand food waste and try to avoid it wherever possible. I can happily spend hours on a Sunday chopping and freezing leftover onions, blanching carrots and celery and freezing them, chopping potatoes into roasties or chips, parboiling them and freezing them and so on. I made a simple pasta sauce the other night and made a soffritto for the base entirely out of frozen stuff that was destined for the bin otherwise, finished it with some basil that I had also torn up and frozen in an ice cube tray with some olive oil. Only additional cost to make it was £1.20 on a tin of peeled tomatoes.

I'm always happy to pay a wee bit extra for decent tinned tomatoes. I always find the cheaper ones a bit watery and too sharp. Mutti is my current go to for brands available in the supermarket. Rega if I remember to order online or I'm somehwere I can get them. I don't mind the Tarantella ones either which are only about 90p.

Winding up the car crash scammers. The phone number is usually Edinburgh and the accent always foreign. They lie to me, so I lie to them.
Working for a s*x shop and describing what was damaged gets a quick hang-up in the other end. As does "I died in the crash".
The best one, and here I challenge you, was telling one that my wife died in the crash yesterday. She cried down the phone. And, no, I'm not sorry.

I had a 13 plate corsa with the first 2 of those - my 68 plate Hyundai doesn't have them!
Admittedly, I don't miss them much. I never used the wheel one as it would only heat the portions of the wheel you're meant to hold and I'm more of a 12 o'clock and gearstick driver than a 10 and 2 position driver. :greengrin

World book day.
I know it gets a bit of a slagging because 'kids all just go dressed up as film characters' but I loved seeing all the bairns in their outfits.
More than that it's important. My daughter has loads of books and came home from school delighted to have 2 more. But 1 in 5 children won't own a book so to get tokens to pick up a couple at school or in a bookshop is great.
In a time when you can access almost any story you want online there is something good about kids getting excited about books.

Properly polishing a pair of shoes.
I know we are living through a period in time that sees wearing a tracksuit to work, shorts and flip flops to a funeral and grey joggers to a wedding as acceptable but I still like the chance to dress up once in a while.
I'm at a wedding next weekend and was pulling stuff together for it. My black dress shoes are rarely worn these days because of the above so needed a bit attention. There is just something about that time and attention it takes to properly build up layers then bull and spit shine them at the end. The methodical, rhythmic nature of it then the satisfaction when the mirror finish starts to appear.

At the weekend learning to ride her bike suddenly clicked and she’s doing that herself as well. She skipped the balance bike stage as wasn’t interested. So not an orthodox route to learning to cycle. Looking forward to getting out and cycling with her in the near future!

I love all the wee milestones.
My daughter was always a good swimmer but was terrified to jump in. On holiday last summer every day she would get a bit braver and after about the 4th day she agreed to jump into my arms; managed that a couple of times then the 3rd time she said she was going to try without help. It was more of a step in but she was so happy and has never looked back.
My son is nearly 3 and a bit behind with his talking. The 'lower end of normal' as the health visitor put it. The other day he just randomly said his own name after showing no interest or ability to do so before, and I daresay Ruairidh isn't the easiest name for a toddler to say, and has never stopped since. I was beaming from ear to ear all day as it's just another tick in the 'nothing to worry about' column.
My daughter also referred to a girl at her school as 'crazy X' just before the summer. When I challenged her she said 'everyone else does it'. The girl is autistic and struggles a wee bit socially and spends a lot of time out the class. I tried to explain to her on a level she would get that some people just think a bit differently and see the world in a way we don't but it doesn't mean they are crazy. I wasn't sure she got it but the other week we were out and saw this girl with a birthday badge on and my bairn went straight over and said happy birthday and gave her a hug. Last week at school my wife got a 'can I have a word' from the teacher which is never usually good but he said he had noticed my daughter standing up for this girl when someone else made fun of her and saying we shouldn't pick on people because everyone is different and that's fine. I was more than a little proud of her. She can be a total wee madam when the mood takes her but she's got a good heart really.
M&S oranges, they taste great..
I came home after a nightshift the other morning raving about the M&S banana I'd had. I'm sure my son thought it was nightshift brain fog by the look he gave me but it was a seriously good banana :greengrin

You never see anyone with a shoe box in there house anymore, my dad would do his shoes every week, I was to learn to do it later on in life. :greengrin

Watching my daughter make great progress. She began swimming without any aides a couple of months ago and is now able to swim the length of a 20m pool herself.
At the weekend learning to ride her bike suddenly clicked and she’s doing that herself as well. She skipped the balance bike stage as wasn’t interested. So not an orthodox route to learning to cycle. Looking forward to getting out and cycling with her in the near future!
Anyone been to the cycle track at Linlithgow? Went with my daughter this morning and she loved it, as did I. Will certainly be a core memory for me as been looking forward to cycling with her since she was born.
Would highly recommend for anyone with kids.

Like when my two were still quite young and would ask about my experiences at school, always starting their questions with 'see in the olden days, Dad...'

Spending precious time with my Grand Daughter. My early life when my Daughters were younger they suffered because I was a selfish ******* and often being filled with beer.
I done a lot with them and we had great times but it should have been more, much more. I sorted myself and brought them up to be brilliant hard working Women and I am so proud of what they have become.

I’ve got a bottle of hot kombucha mustard that makes any dry sandwich phenomenal. It’s potent stuff, but made a toasted bagel with lettuce, tomato, ham, chicken, a little cheddar, a little light mayo and a drizzle of the mustard just before kick off.

A Premier Inn or Travelodge room to yourself.
Away to a gig in Glasgow tonight and don’t know anyone who likes who I’m seeing. Asked my partner and she ****ing hates them. Actually found a cheap sale rate room with Premier Inn for tonight.
Always feel like a small B&B is better for couples trips but there’s something comforting and familiar with the bland, identikit room you get.

I was to the racing at Musselburgh yesterday. Had a bet of £25 e/w in one race. Horse came a distant 3rd but at odds of 22/1 it was still a nice return.
Bookie counted out my winnings, I wasn't really paying attention so I stuck them in a pocket (I always keep my winnings separate to avoid temptation of going over budget). Got home that night and the winnings pocket didn't tally, it was way up. A wee bit calculating and it turns out he has paid me out for £50 e/w rather than £25.
Had I noticed at the time I would have corrected him as my conscience would have bothered me. But I'm saying it was an error on his part, I didn't notice at the time and if I'd made an error somewhere down the line the bookies would be quick enough not to pay me out so I'll take the win and enjoy it.
They'll get it all back with interest on New Years Day anyway😅😅

Employing people who perhaps haven’t had the best start in life and don’t shine above other candidates at the interview stage. Yet you see something that you think you can work with and develop so you give them a chance. They turn out to be absolute stars and up being one of the best you’ve ever employed.

I've recruited people at a couple of workplaces now, and completely agree with this. It can sometimes mean a bit more work at the start, but there are a lot of employers not willing to put that in, and also a lot of people desperate for an opportunity.

Boxing day/Dec 27th. Generally the week leading up to, then Christmas day itself is mental and every year we say "let's slow down a bit next year" but we never do. We hosted the family (9) this year too and with 3 young kids ourselves it made it a difficult day with limited time to embrace the day with the girls
Yesterday and today have been bliss. Watching them playing with their new toys, us pumping the hertz and generally just going at a slower pace has just been so lovely
