Think whoever plays will give their all but as both Leeann and Lennon have said patience is needed and the priority is the league i .l think its fair to assume that we wont have completed our signings for this Transfer window by the time we play first game in Europe and most fans have accepted that as reasonable in the circumstances
Promotion has to be our only target this year , and we must achieve that Nothing should detract from that objective

Genuine question....if you knew a player was gonna be available after the euro tranfer deadline but couldnt get beforehand, would you then spend some of your budget on another player who you could get and was eligible to play in europe....but who wouldnt be your first choice? ?

Not the one we are likely to play though. It is not just another pre season game. There is likely to be about 18,000 people at Easter road for the game. You would not get that for a pre season friendly.

Henderson is a very good young player but don't think he is quite ready for celtic just yet. If I was Rogers I would loan him out so he can continue to gain plenty experience but i'd be loaning him out to maybe a lower English championship/League 1 club and see how he copes with that. He's more than proved he's too good for the Scottish championship so if I was Rogers i'd be interested to loan him out and see how he can do when playing in a league with far better competition.

Listen I love Hendo and I would love to see him back at ER this season, but I don't remember him running the show against Falkirk in the Play-offs. he always contributed but never dominated games. I would say he proved he was good enough to play at a high level in the Scottish Championship, but too good for it? not in my book. get him back.

IIRC, Gary Hooper was an out and out goal scorer when he arrived at Celtic, and he then became a much more rounded centre forward - naturally you would assume Lennon had a big influence on that change. Fergie did the same when Andy Cole signed for Man United.

Both of those players were much older when that development happened. As you say, at only 20, Jason still has plenty of time to improve.

I don't think anyone is overly pally with Celtic but we have a decent relation with them and if getting the occasional good player on loan or to buy, then all good considering where we are right now. BTW McDonald as been a pro for 17 years and played 3 of those years for Celtic with 88 games for them, he played 156 for Motherwell and 116 for Middlesbrough.

I don't think those targets are realistic tbh but I agree with the general point I think you're trying to make. I'd rather we spent our money on up and coming players rather than older guys who's career is on the downward trajectory.

That said I've got no problem with McDonald signing, a wee bit experience up front could have gone a long way last season and a couple of older heads in the changing room that know how to win a league could be a good thing, as long as we don't turn into some dads army outfit.

I dont think/ hope Lenny will have the green tinted cup final specs on with our squad, I expect he already has a number of our fringe players and goalies under the microscope.
The squad the last two years were not convincing and consequently did not get us near qualifying, some strengthening required.

History shows Oxley needs a challenge, our two full backs are probably the best defenders in the league but ineffective wing backs. For the bigger part of the season when they did get a ball past the first man or round the full back we lacked anyone with any prowess in the air. Add a winger or two and a centre thats decent in the air.
We have several decent centre backs but non of them commanding...add a big centre half.
We have several good midfielders but none of them proloific goal scorers, it could be argued we have too much football there. Hence all the debilitating draws.
Lenny likes a bit of strength and height there, we might get an addition to compliment Marv. Cummings has the 'L' plates up and Keetings has not been a 90 minute player, we need an experienced forward that can knit the front line together.
Our former development guys Stanton etc need tro show more strength and application than they did in their ten minute cameos if they are to be kept on. I dont think any of them have developed much on their loan spells, certainly not enough to keep any of our current midfield on the bench.

The squad might not need major surgery but to go up automatically I think we are needing another minimum four players better than those we have.
Its going to be an interesting few weeks watching Lenny develop HIS team to fit his tactics. His assessment of the squad could also be interesting as it will indicate what kind of regime he will have at the club.

You basically criticise our keeper, our full backs, our centre backs, our midfield & our strikers then say, "the squad might not need major surgery"!! Thank F for that!

Lennon will rightly want to pit his own stamp on things and bring in his own player/ coach Possibly a good way to attract an experienced player that can still do a job but wants to get into coaching

Any word of Gunnarsson being signed? I liked what I saw of the big man he had a bit of game. Reckon he would be better suited to a roll sitting in front of the defense. Him n Marv would sweep up everything together. If Hendo has been told he has to find another loan surely there is only one place he will go? Scott McDonald would be a welcome signing, 14 goals for Well last term, he still has a good season in him at least. Shame about El Alagui, I rated him but his knees are gone. Dagnall has never been given a real chance but from anything I have seen he just does not fit in. I would love the Commons rumors to be true but I can't see it.
