I've bought a house and the carpet in the living room is horrible. I want to rip it up, then sand and varnish the floorboards. But, I don't want to be a pain in the arse neighbour to the people downstairs.

I've been looking around online, but wondered if anyone on here has been through the same thing and found a good solution.
