I would assume this means Rocky isn't staying. But either way I'm happy if we can bring Porteous back in to the club. I think it ticks a lot of boxes for us.

See Celtic have just announced Tierney.

Will tear this league apart again IF he stays fit and that’s a massive if.
Think they’re taking a big risk giving him a 5 year deal on, presumably, good money with his injury record.

Could Vente come back for the Europa/conf qualifiers, only to be sold after?

He would be much better suited to those games and could be a real asset to get qualified.

I remember Molde using Haaland to knock us out, only for him to leave immediately after.

Likewise we used McGinn to knock out Asteras but lost him for the Molde games.

I’d be surprised if SDG isn’t looking to upgrade the RCB position.

I think get him sold quickly get the money in a reinvest. Think it's pretty clear he doesn't want to play here next season and we will get a good fee so win win.

I guess if there isn't a moved lined up by the time pre-season comes around he'll come away with us on it and likewise if no deals are done by the time any games come around he'll be involved. We still pay his wages and he's a Hibs player until he isn't.

A back 3 of Iredale Rocky Porto would be v tidy. Also good footballing ability either side of Rocky to get attacking moves set up.

Not sure how it works, but I wonder if there might be some teams keen to sign him from us before the qualifiers - so that he's not cup tied, but unsure how/if that works in these comps.

Levitt and McGrath don’t play the same position/role.
They are both playmakers, I can't seem them on the pitch too much at the same time. McGrath could maybe play wider but I don't think that gets the best out of him.

Give me Dundee United first game, Porto scoring the winner and Goodwin having a meltdown

Porteous linked in Hibs Observer today

McGrath plays further up the park than Levitt. Position wise you’re looking at him against Campbell (even though he has a totally different style) or Hoilett from last season.

Porteous return not for me. Brings too much chaos and can be a liability at times

Aberdeen fans were calling him the ‘ ghost ‘ for being posted missing when they went on their losing run and the going got tough

Not sure how much of that is sour grapes ?

    We shall see

Has averaged 30 games per season over the last three

Cup ties and European ties take him up to 40 per season so no too bad ( Wiki )
He was getting described as a very good signing who they should tie down on another contract and it was even stated he was one of their top 3 players just before he signed for us. After that the tone changed and he was boarding on easily replaceable to just being ***** 😂….

If the Observer are reporting Porteous coming back then you can safely say it's happening.

They’re referencing the Herald article which only really mentions January interest from the club

Can understand some's concerns regarding Porteous coming back, lets hope SDG can get the best out of him.

  23. #3142
Get that Porteous splits opinion but it can’t be disputed that he has quality. Even since leaving us, he’s made the best part of a hundred appearances in the Championship and got more international caps.

Loads of questions about his character but we have a manager who knows that side of him better than any of us.

Would be a good signing for me.

So did Rocky and look how that’s turned out,

Ryan is only 26 and still to hit his peak. Very experienced player, knows the league etc.

If SDG wants him then that’ll do for me.

    No brainer imho.

I agree. In my opinion he was still one of the better players outside the old firm when he left and in the time since he's had a great run for Scotland in my opinion and looked to have taken another step. I do genuinely believe that stupid tackle vs Germany has derailed him in some way and it's hopefully a huge learning moment for him.

If SDG is happy that the Porteous we're getting to come back up the road is a more mature and well rounded version of the one who left then we'd be stupid not to take him back. Especially as now it could mean we have him for his peak years for the next 6 to 8 years at centre back.

The fact there hasn’t been a yes, yet, makes me think he won’t be back.

Can only think that it’s down to looking for more playing time than he thinks he’s going to get here or something along those lines.

Id really like to keep him.

Have to say, this is where I am as well.

Doesn’t look like he’s improved much either since leaving. This isn’t based on a handful of games either. I watched loads of Watford after he moved there. Started off really well, then the same wee mistakes started creeping in.

If he does come back I’ll obviously hope it goes well! Just not sure it will.
