Theres no way of knowing that, just pure speculation. Its more likely he just wants the best no1 AND no2 we can get, and at this point nobody knows who that is.
Finding a keeper better than Smith on our budget would be a big ask. It's fair to say we've brought in a guy with some good recent experience, but not a huge amount of games prior to the past couple of seasons.

He'll do well to edge out Smith, but at least he's got a pedigree that suggests he's capable of being Hibs number keeper.

I suspect what Jeffers was saying is that we were always going to sign another keeper, which is of course the case.

Think Pressley was at Brentford so will be aware of Ethan
I would be surprised if Laidlaw makes it to a top flight team in Scotland.

I would love to see it. For the many years I've followed hibs I've yet to see us produce a keeper who got to the first team. He is highly rated or was a few years ago. Don't know what his situation is currently.

Think you've confused Laidlaw & Johnson, Laidlaw is the winger who left us for Brentford B.

No wonder they never make it, no-one knows where they play 😉

If you're meaning Johnson then yes I would love to see that too for the reasons you suggest. I think currently Hibs NEED to send him out somewhere on loan that he'll play week in week out.

His loans have been questionable at best recently and he needs to go to quite literally any level in the SPFL and go play 30-40 games otherwise he'll hit his early 20s with under a full seasons worth of game time. Airdrie was a decent pit stop for him last season but naturally fell out of favour, QOTS in the end was a terrible decision for him to go to as they already had a settled keeper.

Hopefully this year we'll see him go somewhere properly.

It was a silly situation for everyone involved imo. The only one that probably has benefited is his agent for orchestrating the move.

Hibs have lost what was a great wee talent that, despite everyone's clamour for him to play, still had a lot of work to do to even make it at Hibs. He's now lost a huge chunk of his developmental phase of his career (and the money won't last forever to make up for it), Brentford probably just wrote off whatever money they gave him as an academy expense and he'll leave out the backdoor with the other lads he played beside that won't be given senior team contracts.

He may have enough clout in the bank from his time here as a prospect to entice people to take a chance on him with a view of sending him down on loan, but considering his international youth career has completely evaporated since his move down south even that might be a big ask if he's wanting a Dundee etc.

Aberdeen sign Emmanuel Gyamfi from Schalke, looks capable of playing anywhere on the left.

Schalke fans seem surprised to see him leave and one even saying they must have got about 2 million for him.

However he’s 20 years old and never played for their first team, only the second team.

He was on loan at VVV Venelo last season in the Dutch second division

No way Aberdeen would have paid anywhere near what the fan thought and surely if any good would be playing for Schalke as they’re in the second division? Finished 14th out of 18 teams..

He was probably right to take the chance of making it at Brentford or using that as a platform to move elsewhere, IMO. It seems like it hasn’t paid off, however not sure he’s any worse off or lost any more of his development years when he looks at Johnson who didn’t move elsewhere.

Yes, everyone knew we needed another keeper and it clearly cant be Bursik.

He's a left back, so I wouldn't necessarily expect goals/assists to be too high on the assessment criteria.

He could be good, he could be another "highly rated" youth international who doesn't develop as expected like Kenneh.

I’d take Laidlaw back for a trial period. SDG will know him well

Not long turned 20 and couple of times I’ve saw him he looked a mile ahead of everyone else.

Market value of €200k according to Transfermarkt, appreciate that’s not exactly a great source for that kind of thing.

He had his time here, he's 20 and has done nothing in the game. Our signing policy seems to have moved on from development players so I can't see Gray taking him back.

Maybe, but keepers are a bit of a different breed. You can afford to wait a little longer for one to mature into a first team keeper and actually Johnson despite the last few seasons has come out with more senior appearances than Laidlaw has managed at all in his career.

If he stayed Laidlaw now ideally would have had a spell at say an Edinburgh City and a handful of goals to his name as he looks to kick on in a team that is far more settled and could help younger players than the one he left initially.

I get that these laddies back themselves to do something at any point when they're asked to go play for these teams, but the bar to make it at senior level is so so high and their pockets run so deep that the chances of even one of your teammates making a single Premier League appearance is low enough that the idea of them making 100 appearances seems like a different galaxy. Money aside it just isn't the move I would recommend anyone to make.

Guys who move to Celtic or Rangers get criticised for not challenging themselves by moving down south and not believing in their ability, Laidlaw done exactly that and he's also criticised too.

TBF he left due to ongoing issues with LJ but I agree it's very unlikely he will be back at Hibs. As mentioned earlier I wouldn't be surprised if Dundee have a look at him.

Did LJ not give Josh O’Connor minutes ahead of Ethan ?

The limited times I’ve seen either play, Ethan looked the better player.

If Smith finds himself number 2 I wouldn’t be surprised if he moved.

His performances with us will have alerted alot of clubs how good a keeper he actually is and now he’s played a consecutive amount of games in a row he might now have a taste of being number 1.

I really like smith, still his gloves to lose as far as I’m concerned.

I'd be completely gobsmacked if Smith doesn't start the season as number 1

I think O’Conner was one of the names Laidlaw mentioned . I didn’t see Laidlaw play though thought O’Conner for the short time he was on against Aberdeen looked alright , remember him getting the better of scales , could it have been maybe O’Conner was physically ahead of Laidlaw rather than it being about ability?

Interesting that Salinger joins on 1st July

    Bit odd that no?

Sent from my Pixel 7 Pro using Tapatalk
    Can think of three reasons:

    1) Hibs want to put the transfer fee into next year's accounts, or
    2) Sallinger is maybe due a bonus payment if he is still contracted to his Austrian club at 30 June or
    3) Sallinger's release clause is active on 1 July.

Might use Sallinger for Europe and/or Cup matches and Smith for the league, until someone mucks-up!
