The England team is full of players who play at the highest level against the best players in the world most weeks. Playing against a top side is not going to come as some fort suprise to them. They've reached semi finals and finals of European competition on the international stage too so they are well used to it.

They are definitely in a very fortunate position. To potentially only have to beat 1 top tier nation to win an entire tournament is pretty much unheard of, yet that's what is in front of them.
I was more being hopeful than anything

They're playing terribly though, regardless of how many semi finals and finals of european competition they've played in. Southgate the problem in my opinion, been clear for a long time.

He really isn’t. He’s number 1 due to there being a lack of alternatives. It’s not his shouting at the defence that’s annoys people, it’s his playing up to the camera and crowd particularly when he has done nothing to warrant his behaviour. Yet another England player who has an over inflated opinion of himself.
You obviously have a bee in your bonnet regarding Pickford. He is persistently picked for England because he is their best keeper. He can only be compared to whoever else is available. If he is a crap keeper or only playing because there is nobody else he would surely have been found out by now, the media and supporters would give him stick if they thought it was deserved. Everton have had years to replace him if they thought they could do better but he's still there and although they have struggled for a few years they have spent oodles of cash on outfield players but kept faith with Pickford. He doesn't have to win any popularity contests, he just has to keep stopping shots. That's his job and he does it well.

To have nailed down the England No 1 spot for so many years and become their most capped keeper is good going no matter what anyone's views about him.

I guess most capped at tournaments? He's a long way behind Shilton otherwise.

I’d crawl over broken glass down the M74 and M6 if I knew I’d be successful in persuading him to join HIBS - same old story though, can’t stand the guy when he’s not in your team but when he is you love him.

Yes, sorry most capped at major international tournaments. 11 clean sheets during those tournaments puts him ahead of Shilton in that respect.

I imagine it mostly comes down to England winning and looking for a player to take it out on. Compared to England sides from the past though it's tricky to find anything especially offensive about this bunch. They seem a down to earth lot, including Southgate. The flak coming their way more justifiably relates to how a squad which probably has the talent to win the event can toil to get out of first gear.

Bellingham seems to be a bit of a cock. Never really paid any attention to him before but arrogance seems to pour out of him. Something about Foden and Rice I can't take to either. The Palce CH seems a genuinely decent guy though and Kane I feel is always OK. Still want them to get pumped though.

It's one thing playing for Real Madrid where your coach and colleagues are the best in the world bur different when you're the big fish and your manager is so negative. Great goal though!

The down to earth thing is a complete marketing construct bit like the lionesses. No doubt a core of them just decent professionals however a few genuinely can't take to including Walker Pickford Foden.

He is a good keeper but pope is better. Nailing down an England spot under Southgate is a matter of loyalty rather than being the best available in some cases.

Hes got ridiculous belief, which is why nothing fazes him. I quite like it, god forbid we had a player that had that ‘swag’, with the talent to back it up.

How can a referee looking straight at that award anything other than a corner?!

No wonder players have a go at them. That is farcical.

Thought it was only British refs who made decisions like that.

    He is hopeless.

Well I used to think on the pitch Bellingham came across a bit like Mbappe does, a wee bit arrogant, but in reality neither of them are like that, quite modest actually. Bellingham is still really young as well.

Big first half hour for Kounde. Right back supposed to be their ‘weak spot. So good going forward and coping with Doku so far.

You could see Jude was getting abuse during the game. When he scored he, quite understandably, was giving a bit back and started the cupped ear. Noticable that Kane just caught him gave him a hug and engaged him in a bit of celebration - showing his age and experience.

Remember this guy is 21 - think of some of the things you did at 21 (or pehaps don't) I think given the spotlight he is under and has been since a 17 year old first teamer at Birmingham, he does amazingly well. Definitely has no shortage of confidence, and regularly backs that up

Fancy France to win this but they just aren’t quite clicking yet.

It's not cupping his ear he is being investigated over.

Sure I didn't say it was. I was commenting on what I did see from coverage - I'm no lip reader but he was not asking them for a date
