The comments of English commentators never fail to astonish me. I’m paraphrasing but after 20 mins. of the Spain v Georgia game, where Spain were in total control, the clown comes out with : “ The mystery is, “why can’t the best team in the competition not dominate the poorer teams, as Spain are against Georgia?”…. comically, Georgia ran up the pitch and scored.

    The opposition they will face..

    Expect them to beat Switzerland.

Semi final..don’t think they will be worried about Netherlands / Turkey / Romania or Austria.

Still think France being in other side of the draw was a massive piece of luck.
They would expect to beat Romania. But I'm not sure any of the others would be too worried about England at the moment.

Quite a few teams have already underestimated Austria, I wouldn’t rule out anyone, if England play a team that will actually have a go at their defence they will be in trouble

I turned it off, why are we hating him ?! I’ll jump on board ! 😅
He's one of those players we'd love if he played for Hibs. Reminds me of Andy Goram.

His record as England keeper is excellent.

    We'd more likely sign Barbarella...........
That's one way to guarantee increase in season tickets! Counter the positives with too much Duran Duran though...

Weird angry shouty psychopath of a goalkeeper, no thanks!

His style of playing really annoys the hell out of me.

They are. Great to see the return of proper wingers. Mind you, Jamal needs to work on his finishing by the looks of it. Maybe just needs to break his duck.

Yeah they look to have a real balance to their system and some cracking quality throughout.

Going to be interesting how Germany get on against them, looking forward to that already.

He should have had a couple tonight . Frightening to think he's only 16 .
That's going to be some quarter final game between Germany and Spain too .

Feel the stars are aligning for England. Haven’t yet met a decent side, nor been remotely impressive, but find themselves in a quarter final. Hopefully Switzerland knock them out, but I don’t see it.

I’m half Scottish, half English - always happy to see England lose when it comes too football though :D

I think the German player Jamal Musiala has been good too though I agree Williams has been excellent, exciting player alright .

Good keeper. Good bloke too - or he seemed so when I met him at Goodison hospitality on a mate's son's stag weekend.
Most of the criticism seems to be that he's a bit 'shouty'. Yet when Hibs have a keeper who doesn't shout and organise the defence then it's all 'He's too quiet, he should be telling them where to stand and who to mark etc.' He is an excellent keeper hence his longevity with Everton and England.

He really isn’t. He’s number 1 due to there being a lack of alternatives. It’s not his shouting at the defence that’s annoys people, it’s his playing up to the camera and crowd particularly when he has done nothing to warrant his behaviour. Yet another England player who has an over inflated opinion of himself.

I’m now resigned to England winning it. Hard as they try they can’t not make the final given their side of the draw (yet again, is that the second or third tournament in a row that’s happened?). They then just need the likes of Fodden, Bellingham, Saka etc to drag them over the line with one 90 minute performance in the final.

Why are you resigned to them winning it? Because it's "meant to be" and "football is a funny old game"

They are not beating France, Spain or Germany with no left side and 1 centre mid. Switzerland are going to give them a hellish game with their pressing and an extra days rest.

They need vast improvement to beat the Swiss IMO the only hope for them is that this will be the first game they have had where the team won’t sit in a low block and will actually get at them maybe leaving them space to play into.

The guy on the right for Switzerland ndoye Will be rubbing his hands

Is the England quarter not on Saturday? Don't think rest or fitness will be an issue, that's nearly a full week between games.

    Yeah Saturday evening.

They are evens against Switzerland, who are 3/1. Doesn't mean much but they will definitely be favourites until the final. Finals are usually nervous and anything can happen

Slovakia didn’t sit in low block for most of the first half.

Don’t really understand that as they will need to beat better teams than Slovakia to get to the final

Because they will only have to face one of the four (on paper/reality) in the tournament to win it?

Only having to play one of Germany, Portugal, France and Spain and not until the final is massively fortuitous. Slovakia were probably about the weakest of the teams to qualify for the last 16.

It is fortuitous in one sense, but maybe less so in another. They’re not going to know what hits them if they face one of those sides, compared to what they’ve faced so far.

The England team is full of players who play at the highest level against the best players in the world most weeks. Playing against a top side is not going to come as some sort suprise to them. They've reached semi finals and finals of euros and worlds cups on the international stage too so they are well used to it.

They are definitely in a very fortunate position. To potentially only have to beat 1 top tier nation to win an entire tournament is pretty much unheard of, yet that's what is in front of them.
