If the bairns and carers are not on that plane on Friday, this UK Govt should hang its head in shame and the electorate remember .
They won’t make the plane, we have missed the deadline for Home Office approval and it has had to be postponed.

That's bad news after all your efforts. Have you got an extension on the accommodation?

What further push can we all do here to make it happen?

    Dreadful.
Cannot begin to imagine how devastated and frustrated you and all concerned must be feeling right now .
I fully understand that there are rules and laws regards moving children over borders (if that is the sole barrier to this)
But this is not a normal circumstance .Its refugees fleeing war.The delay was avoidable.
The Home Office had ample time to fix this, and allow passage on Friday.

Hearing Michael Gove losing the plot as well in debate over granting refugees admission to this Country, only enforces my belief that we are governed by,dare i say it,racists.

More expense for you all, this delay.
    .Will make another donation today.
    Keep the Faith ,Stevie.

Glory Glory to the Kids !!

Get them on a plane to Dublin and bus them up via Stranraer. The back door is open.

I think that's what we should start doing in general.

It's time to stand up for what's right rather than rules that another country forces on Scotland.

Rules that Scotland voted to remain part of when presented the chance to change that.

I'm not saying I agree with the current immigration rules, I certainly do not. I didn't vote for brexit either, but Scotland voted to remain part of the United Kingdom and it was well known at the time that Westminster dictated things.

I've been following the Dnipro threads from almost day one but it's a shame that politics have now been brought to the fore.

Such a worthy cause surely doesn't deserve this, I'm sure everyone will be trying their very best for these kids regardless of their political affiliations.

Only a matter of time really, the two are very connected and the UK government's attitude to refugees is having a direct impact.

This is politics. This is politicians making decisions that profoundly affect people’s lives.

Politics haven’t been brought into it - the political response has been both central and critical from the beginning of this crisis.

True, but the No vote doesn’t invalidate criticism of the current UK government position. A democracy should be a living, breathing thing, not a brief interruption from autocracy every few years or so.

One of the Leave arguments is that Brexit would sweep away the restrictive bureaucracy that was supposedly holding Britain back. Clearly a lie (like so many other things). So they can and should be challenged on it.

    Correct.

Sadly the UK Govt have dragged their heels while the Scot Gov, Ukraine, Poland, Edinburgh council and the charity have got their act together.

The reason it is, in fact political is because the tories have made it political.

    Its not tricky.

Political expediency rather than give the Scots a stick to beat the Tories with.

Brilliant news. I'd be happy to donate a match ticket, if we can get the kids to ER for a lovely day out.

“Lift and Shift” that’s an interesting phrase 🤔

But yes, that is effectively what it is. No need for vetting because there are no host families, it is an orphanage group and will remain as such (until it is safe to return to Ukraine).
Do you have permanent accommodation for them and what sort of ongoing financial support is needed?

West Port Outdoor Education Centre in Linlithgow is currently vacant and up for sale from West Lothian Council, I believe it has 15 bedrooms, it has kitchens communal space and a great location!

Would be great to get it used for this.

I reckon hibs.net could pull together a DIY sos type effort to get it up to scratch if need be. I would certainly lend a hand.

Edit. For got to say how chuffed and proud I am of the whole effort. My contribution has only been a small donation of money, so my pride comes from seeing the great work the Dnipro Kids guys have been doing. Great to see hibs support in the media for the right reasons. Thank you, and keep up the good work.

Absolutely, none of the current set up does or ever will, align with my personal views.

I was just pointing out that Scotland voted to be part of the decisions made by Westminster. We knew then what we were getting.

Great news for the kids and a massive credit to everybody directly involved with the Dnipro kids charity. Like many people on here I've donated from time to time over the years but especially this month. I'm sure if asked the Hibs support will come together to ensure the kids stay in Scotland however long that may be will be made as positive an experience as possible

  31. #180
I will cover the cost of all the Dnipro bairns tickets for the DU game. (There will be other costs still to be met eg, meals, transport, supervisor's tickets etc). If someone at Hibs or DK can organise this and cares to DM me, I will immediately respond with necessary funds. Glory glory.
