Shaw had a good season this year. 8 goals in 31 games - his goals per minutes ratio continues to be up there with best records in the league. Also top 5 for goals per shots on target.

His numbers are good but similar to his time at Hibs he's not starting enough games. Is he generally under appreciated or would his stats suffer if he started 38 games????? That's the question which we'll probably never answer!
I could never understand why he didnt get more starts. Is it as simple as he's just not impressive in training?

He wasn’t good enough to be quite blunt. There’s your reason

Correct. Another one of those players who’s continued to get better in people’s minds since he’s left

I don't actually think that's right to be honest.

He had a good record at Hibs for goals but his all round play wasn't as effective as our other options. He now finds himself in pretty much the same situation at Ross County albeit he'll start more games.

Would still be a good squad player for Hibs but wasn't good enough to be first choice. Don't think anyone is really claiming otherwise since he's gone.

He's a really accomplished finisher who scored some great goals for us.

Gullane needs to be that option next season IMO.

He’s not an accomplished finisher imo. Amongst a few goals for us he missed some amount of chances. The league cup game against Aberdeen at ER sticks out in my mind in particular

Think we have a few current players who have missed some chances surely? He's a decent forward.

I’m not saying we don’t, my point is Oli Shaw isn’t an accomplished finisher.

And Nisbet & Doidge are a lot better.

OK no problem, we all have our opinions. I'm not saying Shaw is better than Doidge but Doidge can't possibly be called an accomplished finisher. I point you to his many skelfs, air shots, mis jumps to put headers well wide or over the bar. Again not saying Doidge is a bad player but all I'm saying is Shaw could still be doing a job at Hibs

Shaw is nowhere near what we need if aspirations are the top end of the table and Europe. He's at Ross County for a reason and struggling to get a game recently. There's a pretty good reason for that.

I probably agree and I don't think that's what we're arguing for. Just think he could have done a job for us and was released too soon.

I haven’t called Doidge an accomplished finisher?

He’s more of a goalscorer than shaw though and a better all round player

    It’s not really important though

For this level he really is.

All good strikers miss chances, pretty sure Shaw's shot conversion rate has been up there with the best in the league while at both hibs and county.

It's the rest of his game that lets him down imo.

Agreed! If we had a combo of Doidge's work rate, strength & hold up ability combined with Oli's finishing then that would be a top player.

    A big season for Gullan.
He will turn 22 in 5 weeks time and will be in the final year of his contract.
    Good luck Jamie

He wasnt released, we got offered a fee for him and he wanted to go rather than being 4th choice striker with us.

im sure i read at the time we werent going to sell him but it was Oli himself who pushed for the deal to happen

Sorry if that’s been posted already but I wonder if we’ll see any of the Brighton players released coming in.

Not being good enough for the Premiership isn’t the same as not being good enough for us, they’ll know all about those you g players and wouldn’t surprise me if they’re recommended to us, even if it’s just to get them in to train.

The players who have been released now have no connection to Brighton so there's no reason we would have any inside advantage in signing them. If we get anyone from Brighton, and I'm sceptical, much more likely IMO to be younger players who Brighton want to send on a development assignment.

    I disagree.

Brighton might rate these guys but just no place for them in the first team squad, they could quite easily give us the heads up that they’re worth taking a look at. Similarly they could vouch for us being a good, well run club to the players.

Maybe not relevant to this group of youngsters but I think Brighton attracting young players by saying if you don’t cut it at Brighton we could get your foot in the door at another club at not as high a level would be appealing to a youngster. Means they’ve effectively got the chance to make it at 2 clubs.

That was my understanding of one of the points of this link up.

Yep he wasn’t good enough for us when he left and probably still isn’t. If we were to sign him now people would be underwhelmed.

    Most likely is yes.

You want a shot at the question I asked?
