One of Erich’s rare goals. A 25 yarder if I remember correctly. We won every round to the final 2-0 ( after 1-1 in the semi) and it was supposed to be an good omen as we had done the same on our way to lifting the trophy in 1902.
We know how that worked out!!

I noticed Bobby Combe was playing left wing against Partick-probably Willie suffering one of his three leg breaks.Because Combe could play practically anywhere he invariably moved forward from left half.This was a bit of a double edged sword because many good reserve forwards never got a real chance to progress .Hibs title winning teams used very few players but it meant that when they started to fade out suitable replacements were thin on the ground.

Quite possibly but I don't really recall it. My memory is of Alan Gordon scoring early, first 10 mins and right in front of us, then Shades scoring in 2nd half. Possibly the confidence of youth but I don't really remember us being under pressure at any time.

1965: The 'Cowshed' is opened in the North Terrace

In 1965, Easter Road boasted a new covered enclosure in the North Terrace, the structure becoming affectionately known as the 'Cowshed'. The enclosure stood behind the goals at the end of the ground that now houses the Famous Five Stand.

Hamilton Academical arrived at Easter Road on Saturday 6th November 1965 as the first visiting team to play with the new addition at Easter Road. The formal opening of the enclosure was celebrated in style, Hibernian securing their biggest League victory to date by thumping Accies 11-1. It was a monumental day, with the goals spread between Eric Stevenson (3), Jimmy O'Rourke (2), Jim Scott (2), Peter Cormack, Davy Hogg, Joe Davis and an own goal. Stan Anderson netted the Accies consolation.


With the exception of the 'Cowshed', Easter Road Stadium went largely unchanged throughout the 1960s and 1970s, with further major development to the ground not coming until the 1980s.

I can recall that end being converted back to uncovered when the roof blew off in the early 1990s.

I still remember the battles in the cooshed, as a young teen being crushed down at the front and a big cop dragging me out to wander around the pitch, sure it was Ronnie Simpson trying to shepherd us off the park, he was told to f off on more than one occassion. it was a terrible tackle on a fantastic player with so much potential, Highes was always a big dirty sellick bassa. As ever they got away wi it. That crowd was in fact a little bit smaller than normal, they were usually over 40,000 and they did have a pretty good side, the bassa's.
