I remember this game as being the battle of the strikers Doidge v Shankland
United twice came from behind with honours being even in the striking stakes but ultimately Doidge and HIBS would persevere

A pivotal day for Champions Hibernian
A capacity crowd turned up to watch Gordon Smith at his bewildering best
On the half hour he released Combe down the right who cut inside onto his left foot and sent a blistering drive beyond Ledgerwood
Walker pulled a goal back for Thistle when he scored a carbon copy of Combe’s goal on 50 minutes
Urged on by the huge HIBS support HIBS pushed and pushed for the winner and it came in the 89th minute when Archie Buchanan gloriously headed home Combe’s corner
On the same day nearest rivals Hearts and Rangers were drawing 2-2 at Tynecastle
Hibs would win the League in this season

Remember the second goal one of Shades’ trade mark long throws was cleared back to him and he lashed it back straight into the faraway postage stamp

I noticed Bobby Combe was playing left wing against Partick-probably Willie suffering one of his three leg breaks.Because Combe could play practically anywhere he invariably moved forward from left half. This was a bit of a double edged sword because many good reserve forwards never got a real chance to progress .Hibs title winning teams used very few players but it meant that when they started to fade out suitable replacements were thin on the ground.

You are correct Eddie Turnbull moved Pat Stanton into defence for the last quarter of the match to lock the back door

20/1/1968 Scottish League Division One
Hibernian 0 v 2 Celtic
Celtic won the toss and decided to kick up the hill
Celtic took the lead after only two minutes when a Tommy Gemmell shot hit John Madsen on the thigh and ricocheted off Bobby Duncan on the way in
Celtic increased their lead when Lennox scored a header from a Johnstone corner in 17 minutes
The game erupted two minutes from half-time when following a poor challenge from Celtic winger John ‘Yogi’ Hughes HIBS’ right back Duncan was stretchered off with a broken leg and damaged ankle ligaments
Such was the severity and viciousness of Hughes’ tackle the game was held up for five minutes as it triggered fighting between rival supporters in the Cowshed behind the Celtic goal
Alan Cousin replaced Duncan
The second half was an anticlimax and was played in a subdued atmosphere
Bobby Duncan who had been on the verge of international recognition was never quite the same player again

In a keenly fought match against a stuffy Partick Thistle HIBS could only force a draw in this game played in a good spirit and only had a Bobby Johnstone goal to show for their efforts

20/1/1934 Scottish Cup Round 1
Hibernian 5 v 4 Clyde
Walls 2
Smith 2
Malloy
Worth mentioning this incredible Scottish Cup tie
HIBS gave a debut to former Hearts striker John J Smith whom they had signed for the princely sum of £1000
Clyde took the lead but Rab Wall equalised with a cheeky back header James Malloy then had to leave the field of play through injury leaving HIBS down to 10 men Clyde duly raced into a 4-1 half-time lead
Malloy reappeared for the second half and when play recommenced Clyde looked to be content to hold what they had.
The Hibernians piled forward in numbers throwing caution to the wind with all the fighting spirit of the old Irish brigades as if defeat was out of the question
Rab Walls got his second and new boy JJ Smith got a double to tie the tie 4-4
With 15 minutes to go a beautiful head flick from JJ teed up Malloy to smash home the winner
The HIBS supporters were transformed from silent witnesses of doom into raving maniacs acclaiming their heroes with wild abandon Total strangers threw each other’s bunnets up in the air and clung around each other’s necks and wept for joy
That night in the taverns of Leith a new song was sung:
D’ye Ken John Smith
In his jersey green?
He went through Clyde
Like a submarine
He scored twa goals
He was sae keen
An’ the HIBS live to fight
Anither mornin’

Hughes breaks Bobby Duncans leg
I still remember the battles in the cooshed, as a young teen being crushed down at the front and a big cop dragging me out to wander around the pitch, sure it was Ronnie Simpson trying to shepherd us off the park, he was told to f off on more than one occassion. it was a terrible tackle on a fantastic player with so much potential, Highes was always a big dirty sellick bassa. As ever they got away wi it. That crowd was in fact a little bit smaller than normal, they were usually over 40,000 and they did have a pretty good side, the bassa's.
